The fact I wont be able to play the game because I am region locked out of it has made me consider pirating for a game for the first time
Believe it or not, pirating exists for this exact reason + other noble reasons such as better performance without DRM and the ability to play games offline on some games that are designed to be always online. Some people just take advantage of pirated copies so they get a free game, which gives pirates a bad name. In the old days before drm\always online and other such corporate bullshitery, people would use pirated games so they could play from their hard drive instead of requiring a cd\dvd to be inserted. Some honest people would actually still buy the game, but just use a no cd\dvd cracked copy to play from their hard drive.

I'm also not affected by this and I was ready to buy it day-one, which I rarely ever do, but this is enough for me to pirate it. All Sony had to do was not require PSN and make it optional, but they couldn't manage to pull it off. I'll consider buying it on Steam if they ever drop the requirement.

I play Ghost of Tsushima without a psn account. Biggest advantage of having a ps5.. blurays. Amazing how many people don't know it's a single player game and doesn't need a psn account at all.

To answer your question about brand loyalty, I've come to the conclusion that most people today have chosen a "side" and will just accept whatever their chosen brand does.
People pretend "if X company did X thing better, maybe more people would choose them!" but in reality they've hitched their ride to their brand, and nothing anyone else does will change that.
And no matter how much a company screws you over or chooses anti-consumer practices, they'll excuse & defend it or just deflect to the competitors.

While I don't consider myself an Xbox fanboy, I play on it because it's about all I can afford and aside from them shutting down studios (which is just sad) they treat their consumers like humans and not walking bank accounts to dig into. Most of the time. I have an old laptop that still runs but can barely play modern games on it. I am looking into saving up some meager amount every so often to afford a modern PC, but who knows when that'll happen. If it will.

@justapotato4231 They should, theoretically, be able to play a delisted game if it was added to the users account before being delisted. But I don't know how that works for games that haven't officially released yet.
@@MLPIceberg It's always been only the online game which no one ever plays. I logged into it one time only before I bought ghost of tsushima (the online mode was a free game on playstation). It's a very faint side mode to the actual game.

The thing about piracy is, it only affects publisher not the dev. Devs don't get money from sales they get money to make the game. Only time it affects devs is when development studio is owned by publisher even then they get paid monthly just like a normal job. Well.. because of this, I'll never buy another PlayStation game. Not that I'm that troubled. The last games I purchased from Sony's catalog on PC are God of War and Spiderman. I didn't finish either of them, which demonstrates how I felt about them. Edit: I also want to add.. the fact they are trying to get $70 for a 4 year old game, and force PSN is total BS! I was tempted by Helldivers 2 at launch, but I didn't want that rootkit DRM on my PC (and after all that's happened, I'm glad I resisted)

They can't make the multiplayer as a paid dlc because it's promised to be in the game. If they sell the game for 50$ and multiplayer for 10$ (60$ original price right? NO) you have to keep in mind that Sony is greedy they won't sell the game for less because if they do, they have to sell the base game for 50$ globally meaning less money (i doubt most people would buy multiplayer, they just gonna treat it as a discount). They are literally ruining their reputation for some EMAILS and monthly active users to show for their investors
I was a PlayStation fan since 1995. It was a good brand and produced quality games that I loved. But since jimbo took over Sony became a shadow of its former self. Now I play games on PC. Regarding your question, I live in one on those "shitholes" as a result I pirate all Sony games with clear conscience.
You're 100% right, but it was a calculated move by Sony. Active PSN accounts are worth more than game sales. This really is no different than the music or film industry, neither of which look at sales of physical copies as the planned source of main revenue. I really doubt the focus on digital sales is of much concern either to those companies. Console's value share holder and investor's money over customers and average consumers' money completely for now. It probably points to cloud gaming, it's a race for subs until there it's no longer worth selling consoles to them.
So yeah, pirate away because it's nothing but free publicity for them. And unfortunately the small devs will be fired regardless. This is a min-max of sorts.

A couple of million PSN accounts is more valuable to them then a couple million sales. Those accounts will likely translate to way more money than the few people that are on pc in the regions that haven't already played or bought the game on PS4 or PS5. One is a short term benefit while the other is long term. From a business standpoint, I absolutely can see why they would would do this.

I’m just saying, but this is Bin an issue with those regions PSN hasn’t been available there for years. I’m not defending Sony’s decision, but I’m getting upset about something that has been a problem for decades is ridiculous.

I know a guy who used to be an X-Box fanboy, he ended up losing it along with the place he was staying. after he got a place to live I bought him a PS3 hoping it would brake his brand loyalty, instead he became a Sony fanboy.
We'll see there's a problem in that too is that Sony is putting their games on Steam which you would have to do a PSN account you could have done I don't understand if they're going to put it on Steam anything that don't require a PSN account this is ridiculous doubling down over something so stupid
Most of those people who say these games are fantastic and you should buy a PlayStation for him 9 out of 10 times they haven't played the game themselves they're just saying that because it's on their preferred plastic box

the number of countries is a bit off though, there's only 195 countries in the world and you can get PSN in 69 of them.
Most people are counting territories too. There's like 48 of them.
In addition to territories being counted, some regions have different rules to setting up a psn account. Japan for example, you need a legal Japanese ID to set up a psn account. They're listed as one of the countries it was pulled from steam. So, I'm guessing that maybe those regions' psn accounts only link to other Playstation accounts and can't link with the pc psn account. But that's just a guess, I have no idea how networks work internally.
Don't know where the hell to look for pirating so i got the next best thing, G2A because fuck your 94$ AUD Sony, i'm getting it half off at best
im not loyal to any console that's why i own xbox, ps and pc but i have cancelled my xbox and ps subs and only use the consoles for older games i own on disc everything else is pc and steam

The whole game is not available in my country and no result if i search the game . "this item is currently unavailable in your region.

The only console brand I’m willing to buy in the future is Nintendo. Mostly because at least they try to make unique consoles.
GOT multiplayer shouldn't need a requirement AT ALL either. If I dont get the full package free of charge besides buying the game, I am NOT supporting sony
Having my pre-purchase of this game forcefully refunded was infuriating beyond belief. I have a PSN account, most people who play games in my country do. Playstation Support literally tells people to create accounts using supported regions at sign-up. They sell their consoles here. But they'll delist a game in my country because PSN technically doesn't list my region at sign-up?
The situation is stupid and easily avoidable. What makes matters worse is the complete lack of comms fron Sony, SP and Nixxes. Noone is talking to the players or addressing any concerns, providing updates or news of potential compromises/fixes. It's just a massive shitshow being ignored across all social media and forums. For shame.
