You are amazing! I learned Blender 2.79 studying your course at Udemy. I can't thank you enough. You are a master! So patient, generous and funny. Thanks a lot for all you work!
Man, thank you for this tutorial!!! Amazing video! Very easy to follow. I'm highly appreciate your time and your desire to share your knowledge! Keep going and be healthy!
The updates that the Measureit add-on have received, at least since I've last updated it, should help it to be even more useful. Thank you for making this video! It was well mapped out and informative.
Also, an alternative - in this case - to using the Edge Split modifier once Shade Smooth has been applied is to go to Object Data -> Normals and tick the Auto Smooth check box.
So far as I have learned the auto smooth feature will not translate to a real world physical object. If you are 3D printing for example anything that shows as auto smooth will be lost and not printed. Really, whats the point of using auto smooth for this sort of design work if all its good for is giving you a false sense of design that does not translate? Or does it and I have not been told the truth?
thank you for making this!! I was trying my best to use Blender instead of Fusion360 for 3D print modelling but I could not find a good replacement for Fusion360 dimension labels - Until Now!!. Brilliant tutorial. You earned a new subscriber. Thanks
tbh fusion is better for parametric modeling, I usually make a model "base" in fusion and then import it to blender if needed - you don't need a mesh for 3D print if it's not something like a figurine, I personally find it a hindrance.
any way to render the annotations as freestyle lines ? ițm using a render freestyle>export SVG workflow and it'd be really great if you could do that ... if not possible, how about converting the arrows and digits as bezier curves so I could style them later ... at this point , the addon is really useful, but it doesn't really work for what I'm trying to do and it doesn't really look that great either, which is a shame because the geometry on those arcs and angles looks really cool, too bad it's rendered in that boring way
Yes, you make good points. I wish this was possible. (Right now even the default freestyle in Eevee has weird artifacts in the lines so they'll probably start fixing it soon (I have a month-old build so maybe it's fixed already). I hope freestyle gets even more finetuned and also new features cuz it's really promising as a concept :P)
The first time I did my full composite render the measurements had shifted off from where they were supposed to be on the object. I think I did something wrong with the orthographic scale you mention around 16:55 minutes. I deleted my camera and started over with a new one and followed your instructions and it came out fine. Can not adjusting the camera and orthographic scale properly cause this problem?
If you like to have the arrows more sharp like in technical drawings... Search for the file "[BLENDER]\scripts\addons\measureit_geometry.py" and change some values in function "def draw_arrow(..)" from rad45 = radians(45) rad315 = radians(315) to rad45 = radian(10) rad315 = radian(350) Not professional but works fine.
I am trying to follow along. But now, I have come up to a difference in our screens. You have a drop-down box just above "Configuration" where you can select a preferred measure unit, but on my 2.8 Blender, there is NOT this drop-down. Would you know where it is now?
@yojigraphics Can you do a video on how to prepare a DAZ character for 3d print in blender? I believe it involves retopology. I am trying to print some characters I worked on but the hair and clothes especially present problems.
Hi, I really like measure it but contrarily as what I see on this video, when I increase the distance of where the measurement is displayed, the arrows are not anymore at the end of the lines and it looks more like a H. Anyone knows how to sort this out?
hi thanks for this tutorial, but i have one question. why i cant change my line width if any one know how to solve it please help me, curently im using blender 2.81a on imac (mac os high siera)
Very valuable presentation. The only thing I would like to see changed would be to have a vectorial result transferred on a pdf format page and not a rendered png image.
And the area. Probably due to the Unit Scale value in the Scene settings being changed from 1.000000 to 0.001 (to reflect that one Blender Unit is now equal to 1mm) at the start of the original tutorial. MeasureIt must not be able to take that into account when calculating the Area. It's as if it has forgot to multiply the area value by the Unit Scale value to arrive at the correct result. There is a check box in the Items section of the MeasureIt UI called Scale. If you tick this then you can enter 0.001 in the Scale Factor text box next to it. Seems to change the area value to the correct measurement. Don't know if this is the correct workflow though.
@marietto2008 Look at the size of the piece... Could the radius of a semicircle be equal to 8000mm? And the other radius... Diameter is 24mm, radius 12000mm! I think could be a dimension unity problem.
my measureit render image doesn't match the "render result" image. so the measurings are all over except where they should be, help please, here's my post on reddit asking the same. www.reddit.com/r/blender/comments/gw68bv/help_a_noob_please_my_measureit_tool_doesnt_seem/
I think the calculation method of area is wrong, there is no way the area of the first faces which you have selected to be 1792000.12 mm2 = 1.79 m2, as it should be (96*16+16*16)= 1792 mm2, and the other zero digits are extra, and same for the second faces. Please let the add on developers to fix this bug. The have put much effort into designing it, so it worth to be something correct.
The rendering You named it peice3d.jpg Your video implies your going to show us how you made peice3d.jpg but you do not. Your video tells us how smart you are that you know how to it yes it does show us how your superior and smart but it does not help me know how to make a good presentation with blender. If your not going to try to help people do not make videos. ITs creepy dude.
You are amazing! I learned Blender 2.79 studying your course at Udemy. I can't thank you enough. You are a master! So patient, generous and funny. Thanks a lot for all you work!
This, combined with your precision modelling tutorial, are absolutely invaluable to me. I can't thank you enough.

5 ans après toujours excellent ! Merci.
I've been using MeasureIt but I didn't know it was this powerful, very nice.
Thanks bro! And no comercials,,,, your the man!!!
A BIG thanks for doing these tutorials in English. Really Appreciate it.
Cheers & Merci

I would like to THANK YOU for the great tutorials on the School of Fish. LOVE IT.
Cheers
MR H
Nice video! How you get the black lines in the render? There is a way to get Just the lines?
One of the best tutorial I've seen! I've learnt so much! Thank you!
EPIC presentation of the toolset. Very much appreciated!
There seems to be a bug in measureit. It does not apply the scale to arc and area measurements.
Yes but nobody seems to care about :-)
Nice presentation! Happy new year to you mate!
Question: Can you export these models into CAD programs and retain the dimensions without reconstruction in the CAD software?
What to click to start rendering? Thats 19:22
oh yeah F12 is the keyboard shortcut to render a still image
Excellent tutorial, However the changes I make to text size are NOT reflected in the rendering, Any idea why this could be? Thanks.

I can't seem to get the measurements to render. Everything else renders except the measurement lines and numbers.

Thank you Bro!! I subscribed, I am new to precision modeling like house etc and your video is simple and to the point.

one of the best tutorial i hav seeen
I have a problem when I composite the render the measurit render is on top of the origional render with a white background.
omg ! Gros MERCI !!!!!! Super tuto ! 👍👍👍
Awesome lesson. Just learned so many tricks. Thank you.
will these dimensions export to unity and be able to be viewed as well?
Excellent. Just what I needed. Thank you very much
Thanks for the good tutorial.
How can I indicate the radius?
I am trying to follow along. But now, I have come up to a difference in our screens. You have a drop-down box just above "Configuration" where you can select a preferred measure unit, but on my 2.8 Blender, there is NOT this drop-down. Would you know where it is now?
Perhaps you will find it in the properties editor under "scene". This is the fifth icon down. to bring up the properties window, then scene -> units.
i want to use measureit for loopcuts, so that i know where to make cuts. But measureit seems to only work for vertices that already exist :(
@yojigraphics Can you do a video on how to prepare a DAZ character for 3d print in blender? I believe it involves retopology. I am trying to print some characters I worked on but the hair and clothes especially present problems.
Use Auto-Smooth after Mesh Smoothing (Object Data/Normals/Auto Smooth). Flat Surfaces will be not smoothed.
Thanx, spectacular!, that's so easy evrybody could become an interior decorator. ¡Happy mew year! :)
Thank You! and Happy New Year!!!
Great Tutorial! Just learn something new that I'll use right away in a job and make some bucks!
Wow... I finally found it! Thanx a lot!
How to find this drawing blueprint
Does anyone have the file? The download link not working. Thanks!
Awesome presentation. Thank you for sharing it.
Fantastic. Exactly what I need
This tutorial is *so* useful!
Thank you!
I wasn't able to find it under add-ons, I used get extensions to download it
Thank you. Happy New Year.

Thanks for the good tutorial. Very useful stuff.
I wonder if this runs on a 7 year old mobile Core i5 processor.

This addon was last updated 6 years ago. I have a suspicion that this addon is buggy on the latest version of Blender. What do you think?
Great tutorial many thanks!

Very useful tutorial, greate job!
great information my guy
Interesting, but I think radius values are wrong.

I think could be a dimension unity problem.
I'd still stay away from high precision modelling until I get a better grid
i have blender 2.8.75 this ad-on doesn`t work
This is awesome ! thank you very much! I will subscribe and like!
Great video!
Surface area seems to be wrong: it says almost 2 m2 ..
😍😍😍😍
🔥💕👍
Very helpful. Thanks!
seems to be a problem with the addon , 0.02m makes 2 mm not 16 xD
Good Stuff, Thanks!!!
Thanks for yout great tutorial!
Hi ! Do you take orders ?
Thanks a lot!
This is awesome................
Excellent ... thx a lot ^^!
Seems a little convoluted that you would have to alpha over the measurements manually
great info THX!
Thanks
thank you
thanks a lot bro
Thanks friend!
Thank you!
Thanks!
Thank you very much!!!!!!!!
gracias

nice tut but totally horrible geometry ... thinking of using this on the cage mesh of a SUB-D model
nice

I think the arc is wrong too
Dude that is for catia only yo
measureit alpha to alphaover fac
I thought this addon would actually do something but all it does is a lable maker it doesn't actually measure anything.
this is literally a built in thing for blender thats not even an addon..........
Wow. I am pretty sure the overpriced Autodesk "Dinosaur" Maya doesn't have this...
Toooo long video
