The older stems in My clump are getting about 45 feet tall. And still there are loads of small ones coming from the base and making an understory of leaves.. therefore the stems don't look bare.. makes a good privacy screen. I like just pulling out the dead leaves..

Question: Could you buy one of these k-mart plants in a pot, thin them out to about 2 or 3 stems and then put it in the ground? Will it grow big like in the video?

What do you think about the Acai palms ? They are great clumping palms too..but more wind resistant..

Great video! Mine's dying from the recent frost. I'm in zone 9b. If I cut one of the dead trunks, will new leaves grow out of them?

@4:56 how did resist the urge to pull that dead frond off? I have a row of about 15 of this areca palm space out three feet apart on center. These are roughly same size as mine.

How much water do these plants need living in IE California.

Hi Gary is there a difference between the Areca Palm and the Golden Cane Palm. Or is the latter a subtype of Areca. I notice that the Arecas may have one main huge trunk/stem whereas the Golden Cane has about 4 thick sugar cane like trunk/stems where little shoots will sometimes emerge. I have both types in pots at home.

They are really to be considered one in the same but all palms can be highly variable in ther visible traits they express within any genus
