Never worked for me here in Modesto. But Dypsis Baronii looks very simular and is more hardy. Ive had my Dypsis Baronii outdoors in ground for 20 years.
They sure are pretty - often I see them in landscapes and the entire plant is sickly yellow. That tall one is super impressive. I was always under the impression that they became super popular because they were fast to make a full lush plant, not because they were easy to grow ( inside). I dont believe I ever saw one last much more than a year or two anywhere indoors. Then along came it's Madagascar neighbor Ravenea rivularis, and it became the industry darling. At least I have much better luck with that one inside.
Golden cane palms for a privacy planting will be your worst mistake ever! Every single day you will be a slave to this palm. And that’s no exaggeration! X10000 every single day is picking up the waste and trying to control it. Great for a few plantings and that’s it. It’s literally a weed!
I planted in the ground three very tiny Dypsis lutescens in my Los Altos garden two years ago and they are steadily growing with no winter setbacks. They get half day full sun and are kept well watered.
Coming form the only guy who was successful with Roystonia in Nor Cal. At least for a little while. I'm wondering if your garden is in some kind of mystical tropical vortex. But yes, I think lutescens can make it in lots of places in around the Bay in very specific spots. I need to come see your garden and do a video on it. Gary Gragg's True Plant Stories Gary, I still have a Roystonea borinquena in the ground in my front yard planted as a single leaf seedling in 2014 it is now 7 feet tall. One to two leaves per year is all it produces but it’s green otherwise. I have two Pinanga species doing well as well as Licuala, Kerriodoxa, and other warm climate species intermingling with cooler climate favorites like Ceroxylon, Rhopalostylis, Hedescepe, etc. I probably have one of the only long term Wodyetia bifurcata around here planted next to a huge Foxy Lady that’s growing faster than any of my Archontophoenix. Pretty much a solid 10a here since 2007 with no freezing temperatures at all since then.

Ok this golden cane palm which has golden stem. And another one is sugar cane palm. Which is looks like sugarcane. Thanks.
