I need you as my teacher. PLEASE if you can play flute, come to Australia and replace my awful teacher. She says the most horrible things to us and everyone is quitting their future musical careers because of her. She said I was the worst flute student in the entire school just because I missed 4 lessons (due to Covid-19, then I had a maths test during the lesson (which is normal as at my school, instrumental lessons overlap course classes), then I was sick for 2 weeks - we have 1 lesson every week mind you) I hope you see that these are very valid reasons, yet she still continues to say the harshest things to me for no apparent reason. We need more positive music teachers! We need more musicians to keep loving what they're doing! We need this to stop ;-; pls its killing me.
@@melissaeveritt1889 Yeah I really want to get a new teacher but I'm learning as part of my school. There's only 1 flute teacher at my school and she's hired from the head of music in my country so the school can't even fire her. If I want to leave her class, I'd have to learn a whole new instrument and start from the bottom, or quit the entire music course altogether. Honestly, I don't know what to do now.
For Alice, the flutist: first of all, straighten your back a bit, the posture is not good for the diaphragm; keep your shoulders down and try not to raise them while you play, it creates unnecessary tension; your tone is really good, it can be even better if you give it a bit more support with air (airflow should be faster but the lips should still be relaxed); while playing trillers, concentrate on the base note and keep it in focus to prevent it from dispersing all over the place. This is just some friendly advice from a flute professor to be :)
I'm not a prof but a performance major. I noticed the elbows were too much outwards from the body, which causes the wrists to bend and can cause injury. It's a big problem I used to have so it's something I always point out.
I'd also add to practice interval jumps more; those weren't as clear. Cut a long note short to take a breath or else you'll start the next note late. But really good for 6 years.
Another flute player here.. she was taking too loudly of breathes and like moving her entire body, she needs to work on taking deep breaths without moving her entire body to take it. It just bugs me when people do that, but work on using your air better, and taking more smaller, sustained breaths. She had nice transitions from low notes to high notes. Work on phrasing. Connect them, it’s a piece, not a piece filled with little sections of different pieces. The breathing also made it so there was the end of one phrase and then *BIG INHALE*, instead of a smaller breath and then connecting the phrases. I also feel like you could have a lot more vibrato on some of the notes, it seemed kinda bland sometimes. Especially on the long notes/slurred. The crescendo was nice. Overall, good job! I’m still a high schooler so the breathing thing is just something that bugs me, I’m not completely sure if it would help but I find that taking a big breath at the beginning and then less noticeable ones the rest of the time when needed, made it go together smoother.
That's what I loved the most about this video. Too many teachers are quick to point out all the flaws and mistakes but never tell you how to fix it or show you how to do it correctly.
This 21 years old dude knows damn well that he plays like a young god and that he doesnt need their opinion and feedback and prolly just wanted to flex on us😑😂
If the flutist sees this: i noticed, that your right arm is hanging too low and your thumb is rather in front of the pipe. This will make your flute turn in and it gets hard to maintain a beautiful, open tone. When you lift your elbow and place your thumb behind the pipe your tone will be less airy and easier to control. Furthermore your flute will be more steady in your hands and your wrist doesn t bend wich is better for moving your fingers fast and your overall sinew health. Don t worry about dropping your flute or somthing because your left hand is the one mainly holding it. I had the same problem and noticed immediate change and it really got better. I hope i could help 😅😊💞🎶
I'm also a flautist and noticed this too! For the first few years I was often guilty of leaning to one side (thus limiting my lungs) and lowering my right arm, and I saw it a lot in other players too so it's probably quite a common thing to do.
These guys are actually really good at this. They know exactly the level that the player is at, and their comments are right where the player needs to hear a constructive suggestion to improve his or her playing. They're gentle and supportive and they actually spent time on intermediate players.
As an Asian, I think they are being condescending to the baby with their patronizing comments. They need to be more critical and on point! I was actually joking. I don't think this footnote is needed, but some of you guys are just unbelievable..
To the flute player, most people in the comments have already said what I was thinking but I would add try not to lift your fingers so high when there’s an open key, keeping it closer to the instrument is a good habit to get into for faster pieces
I would add that she often speeds up as she runs out of air. It's a common thing to do when you want to complete the phrase without trying to take another breath but it leads to rushing. Also her sound was dying off at the end of each breath as well. I would suggest taking an extra breathe in between the spots she normally does and do a lot of breathing exercises before each practice, much like the instrument needs to warm up so does the lungs.
And that's just saying that the bridge to success is through playing string instruments because wind brass and percussion instruments don't have a bridge

I really enjoyed this - it’s one thing to hear your excellent playing in vids, buts it’s very enlightening to hear you both TEACH these little subtleties that all contribute to better playing. You both speak so well and explain/demonstrate things in a way that is easy to understand (for example, I’m not a string player (clarinet many yrs ago), but I am able to follow what you are saying, and I can see how some of these concepts (phrasing, pace, dynamics, color, etc.) can be generalized to other instruments. I would DEFINITELY love to see many more iterations of your “masterclass videos” ❤️👍🏼
I have played guitar for 7 years and now i have played 1 weeks the violin because this channel, thank you guys , you inspired me . Greetings from Colombia
I wish my teacher was giving me that constructive advices instead of being picky and shout. Thanks guys for motivating us to practice and keeping up good vibes!!! and let the Ling Ling be with you!
For years my teacher would be much too careful in giving criticism, and just compliment my playing. I knew it should sound better, but often didn't know how or what to change. Good teaching/coaching of this sort requires effort and practice
Hi Brett and Eddy! Huge fan here. I dance a style of South Indian classical dance called Bharatanatyam, which is performed to a style of Indian classical music called Carnatic music. When I perform to live music, I am accompanied by Carnatic musicians, including Carnatic violinists. Carnatic violinists hold the violin in a very unique position (downward) and use very different tuning, but they perform beautiful music! I’d love for you guys to watch some videos on it and react to it because I think you’d find it super interesting that the violin was adapted in such a unique way in my home country!
2:34 I just realized that when Eddy breathes with the music he sticks his tongue out a little bit. He does it multiple times throughout the video. Haha, cute.
They have -roasted- reviewed just 4 performances out of 4000, including one that was clearly a joke, and an other one that was already perfect.... Yeah I definitively hope there will be more masterclasses ahah (though I'm not that much looking forward to be reviewed by you guys... It's gonna be a mess ahah)
Ray Chen also does these kinds of reviews when he livestreams. A collab with him on one of these episodes could be cool, maybe also one with Hilary Hahn, with Sophie for the piano gang, and some of your other musician friends to help with the cello gang, flute gang, etc.
@@preciousjewelamor i didn't mean that they *should* do a livestream. I meant that they should invite their professional friends into one of these videos if they're available and want to do it.

The masterclass intro was awesome, very believable! Am I the only one who thinks you guys should really do some teaching videos? You seem to be great in explaining things and... well, you are professional! Loved the video :)
Tip for any wind players who are playing with piano accompaniment: Be sure to work out with your pianist where your phrases and breaths are going to end to avoid the issue of one of you getting ahead or behind slightly. Or really that goes for any group that has a wind player.
Omg it was so good, thank you very much!! Although I have to admit I’m 100% guilty of the « how ya dOIG » thing with the bow, it’s a good reminder for me to work on that! Such amazing and practical (and respectful!) advice, you two are so great
I played that exact same flute piece for one of my exams (can't remember which grade it was now, but it was Trinity Guildhall) and the rhyhmn is totally off... And the breathing is off too, with some quick gasps before playing a passage. It shouldn't be too noticeable where you are breathing and shouldn't affect the timing of the piece. Having said that, she has lovely vibrato and there is a nice confidence to her playing.
10:26 is actually really good advice. The student director, and the "real" director (idk how to correctly word that) at my high school have actually said on multiple occasions, for multiple pieces, to treat the eighth note at the end of a tie as the release instead of trying to play it out and accidentally playing it as a half note (or whatever length note it would end up being)
Will there be a two set school? I’m just trying to remind you guys in case You forgot! You said in a comment once you’ll make a two set school where you teach us violin techniques ❤️ edit: thanks for 40+ likes hope two set would be able to see this

I was introduced to your channel from Davie 504. Now I watch you more than I watch Davie 504. Sacrilegious?
The power of base is fading. Now I just need to learn violin.
Ha ha, no problem, you can like bass AND watch TwoSet, everybody's welcome on this channel ! Glad to see that you enjoy violin 🤗
You can practice violin 40 hours a day and bass 40 hours a night
“Meet your new instructors.”
Instructors for what? Violin or Roasting
3:50 Eddy: SHE IS SO CUTE, BRETT: What is that?
Lmao, Eddy was so happy!
@LING LING GRANGER YESSS but I loved both reactions! they are so expressive!
Oh my god Brett is me with kids.
PLEASE
MAKE
PART
TWO
(edit: oh, that series comment was wanted to make part two 😂)
OMG Im crying, Thanks for watching my video I'm so excited (Im literally screaming) Thanks for your recommendations, I will keep improving, Ling Ling 40hours!!
wait who were u?? :000
jerry queer 6:30
I think
@@rebecca3842 OMG awesome! xD
good for you for putting yourself out there! im a flute player so idk much ab violin but i thought you sounded so pretty!
wow. this is brutal. It's like an audition in front of 200,000 people with live comments from the panel.
But we are kind!
@@bota7763 Ye we’re not brutal
I wouldn't mind playing in their videos, even if it's bad people are so supportive, and those who aren't are probably people I will never meet. So I wouldn't mind at least
Didn’t anyone notice when the guy had like bad audio syncing and editor-San was like (editor-San got you)
Yes, I did see that.
Michelle Broge-Connor YES! I want more of these Masterclass vids too!
You suddenly realise that they actually are trained musicians with high standard knowledge. I really like this video, hope for more!
“Editor-san got you”
Me: sobbing quietly so I don’t wake up the house
I have played guitar for 7 years and now i have played 1 weeks the violin because this channel, thank you guys , you inspired me .
Greetings from Colombia
I wish my teacher was giving me that constructive advices instead of being picky and shout.
Thanks guys for motivating us to practice and keeping up good vibes!!!
and let the Ling Ling be with you!
For years my teacher would be much too careful in giving criticism, and just compliment my playing. I knew it should sound better, but often didn't know how or what to change. Good teaching/coaching of this sort requires effort and practice
Sounds like you need a new teacher.
Wow! Amazing culture you have!
They already did....very briefly... in a recent Ling Ling 40 hours episode.
Finally found a fellow Indian
They did see some from a reddit post, and they enjoyed it.
@@miwir1248 do u know the title/link of the video ?
The fact that I actually got a Masterclass ad with Perlman in it makes this 100 times better
editor-san fixing the guy's audio and video sync is so wholesome my heart is warmed
Me before the video: hope they wont review my video
Me after the video: awh man i didnt get reviewed
Same loooolllll
Saaaame
Meeeee
I was the opposite!
Same. 😂

I just realized that when Eddy breathes with the music he sticks his tongue out a little bit. He does it multiple times throughout the video. Haha, cute.
True!! It’s like a FROG!! Or a cute snake
Twoset is really loading us with content these few days
hey dats not a bad thing so
YEET
They must be so hangover
I love how the editor-san varies the volume of Summer at the beginning, that's so cool.
4:45 awee “editor sans got u” ALSO THIS GUY WAS AMAZING
I liked when they got to "this is our master class" honestly the only master class on internet that will intrigue me
Yeah a few days ago there was one oof a chimpanzee teacher I was like wth
I thought it was a great parody of those adverts TH-cam has.
Ya this one and ging gings master class...
I really wanna watch Chris Hadfield's one on space exploration. Dude is my favorite (besides Brett & Eddy).
I'm starting an Editor-san cult who's with me
Ray Chen also does these kinds of reviews when he livestreams. A collab with him on one of these episodes could be cool, maybe also one with Hilary Hahn, with Sophie for the piano gang, and some of your other musician friends to help with the cello gang, flute gang, etc.
shouldn’t be a livestream coz Aussie internet sux
@@preciousjewelamor i didn't mean that they *should* do a livestream. I meant that they should invite their professional friends into one of these videos if they're available and want to do it.
courageous 3 year player submits playing
me: *10 years of playing*
me: im a legit coward
Hi , Buddy. Let's be scared together
MOOD im grade 6 violin and im like oh hell nahhh
shit lmao im 14 and i started playing at 2.5 and i legit didnt practice for quarantine so i cant submit anything bc i feel like ill butcher anything JSHSGHSISUSS
I’m too scared to even attempt despite playing trumpet for 6 years. Me trying to submit, starts getting insecurely about my tone, my range, thinks about my playing......*discards video and sighs
Or really that goes for any group that has a wind player.
yes!! everytime I take an exam this is what my teacher stresses the most with the accompanied pieces
this is how many people want twoset to do another one of these vids
⬇️
Omg it was so good, thank you very much!! Although I have to admit I’m 100% guilty of the « how ya dOIG » thing with the bow, it’s a good reminder for me to work on that! Such amazing and practical (and respectful!) advice, you two are so great
*"i quite enjoy the sound you're making."* - eddy, 2020.
Me as a beginner listening to others but having no idea how to read music or name chords
coke and cheese. He sounds like an old wise man there 😃
If ya know what I mean.
Said no one to me ever.
Girl I can barely play in front of my parents and these people sending they whole fricken videos to youtubers. SMH my head
I can’t even play looking at myself in the mirror.
I would like to thank Editor-San. Because of you, I've learned how to love the Comic Sans font! Lol
Every Graphical Artist would condemn Editor-san.
(Comic Sans is SaCriLeGioUs)
Howard Stark No, no! Editor-san is the Ling Ling of video editing! He/she can even use Wingdings and Chiller fonts. 😂
@@angeladominique 😂 Okay. You win. That response was too perfect. 👌🏼
Hey guys! I'm Earlene Eugenia
Tysm for the /cough roas- i mean, master class!
I will practice more, 40 hrs a day.
Thanks Two Set Violin!
Earlingling Eugenia :-) i'm impressed you can play the Bach double so well after only playing 3 years!
@@liftflowthrive Thank you😆😁
10:26 is actually really good advice. The student director, and the "real" director (idk how to correctly word that) at my high school have actually said on multiple occasions, for multiple pieces, to treat the eighth note at the end of a tie as the release instead of trying to play it out and accidentally playing it as a half note (or whatever length note it would end up being)
Their constructive criticism is very valuable, but their subtle roasts are even better
i see your comments everywhere lol
Here you go. The one guy that has been here and everywhere since the 60s. Legend says u can't find a video without finding him in the comments
I just came from a daniel thrasher vid and found u again
This guy is even in gaming vids
@@azxriel7172 omg me toooo
4:45 editor-san is a real one
A sudden 💭 :
‘Maybe twoset can do a ‘Practice with Me’ video 🤣, so we get to watch the video and practice tgt at the same timee uwu.’ ✨yay!🌸
@twosetviolin
"In their *first* online roast"...
Excuse me?
(By the way, I'd SERIOUSLY want TwoSet to have a masterclass)
Nice to see you again ARIMA Kousei
sup kousei
Bruh.. Don't make me remind of Kaori again.. 😐💔💔
I needed this to be an hour long.
So weird to hear someone saying they want to visit Venezuela..... Weird approach but good weather up here. Love from Caracas
Last time I was this early... *Ling Ling only practiced 39 hours*
That’s EARLY
Damn thats a long time ago
When you spend a lot of money on Itzhak Perlman's virtual masterclass but then you realize you could have just taken Twoset's on TH-cam for free.
Easy solution. Just don't try to learn. Easy.
Petition to make this a series
Will there be a two set school? I’m just trying to remind you guys in case You forgot! You said in a comment once you’ll make a two set school where you teach us violin techniques ❤️ edit: thanks for 40+ likes hope two set would be able to see this
eddy has a personal channel where he made some instruction videos
Dulcie Torrans yup! Wanted to see more content though because the last time eddy posted there was around 4 years ago huhu
Denise Angelivwyn I think we have to choose. Twoset or Eddy’s channel. He can’t manage both unfortunately.
xandra xandra true but hopefully they would post on this channel if ever they would try to do a two set school so that we can hear Brett teach too hehe ❤️
i would love that, sometimes people forget how talented they are
