its an asian stereotypical way. they are just joking, and probably what they say is not literal. plus it is a decent way of being humble and remembering although they are good, there are people way beyond their levels. this adding more persistent mentality.
We knew Eddy's sis because he said that Brett had an older/younger (don't remember) brother to fulfill parental dreams but Eddy's sis was already a musician.
Eddy talking about how uni really made him hit a road block is about as relatable as it gets with anyone majoring in arts. I'm majoring in film and minoring in photography and my best friend is an art/ graphic design major. We both feel like uni is really messing us up right now.
For me, i got into Conservatorio when i was 10, i play piano. After one or two years there, i started to feel obliged to play, and it wasn't fun anymore. I was practically a robot. It took me three years to start getting that passion again, but i still lack my confidence in what i'm doing with it. Professional school sometimes really mess things up, but i think i had to have that phase.
oh I've been there and you gotta be careful I was a film major and an animation minor barely survived 3rd year - major physical health problems due to burnout and a full on mental breakdown 🙃
I feel like that's generally what happens when you study something in higher education, especially something like music.. Your technical bits gets better but school kills the confidence/ease with which we once did things.. because now you've learnt the technicalities behind everything, your brain overanalyses it and when you play, subconsciously, you play less freely because of all the technical things you've learnt. idk if this even makes sense, but it's what happened to me with creative writing.. I became so focused on the technical parts of English and plot devices and things like that, and ended up killing the stream of ideas that used to come so easily..
Ugh that happened to me too, I remember in year 10 my science teacher had told me he always enjoyed stories written by people who hadn’t studied writing at a higher level, I didn’t listen to him and now I don’t write anymore lol
I feel like that just generally happens in life too. You get less confident (not all the time) or overthink more as you get older. I have heard from elderly people that they are so much less confident that when they were younger.
@@keabilene6637 Yes, essentially, the more you learn, the more limits you start placing on yourself based on what you learn, and because of those limits, you don't reach as far as you would've done.. If you don't know what you can't do, then you can do pretty much anything. Once someone tells you that a certain thing can't be done, you're stifled and not everything is possible anymore :(
I think sometimes you forget how much you accomplished at younger ages. You just see how farther you could go and you don't appreciate how far you've come.
if you look up their birthdays in the Chinese lunar calendar, Brett IS actually yang and Eddy is yin! Yin is negative, dark and feminine (lol, probably why Eddy always plays Edwina and Tiger Mom) and Yang is positive, bright and masculine.
I really feel like Brett and Eddy will eventually leave a much more lasting impression on the classical music industry than they think. Maybe not in the traditional way, but in the way they motivate and inspire the future (and current) generations of musicians. In the future, people will point to TwoSet as the reason they kept going or even the reason they started. I hope they can feel it. And I hope they know that they are far from failures and that what they do means so much.
I said it many times and I'll say it again : what Twoset has done for the last seven years is the best thing that could have happened to classical music ! And yes, if having a successful TH-cam channel, collaborating with world-class musicians and touring the world with sold-out shows is being a failure, then I definitely want to be one... 😄
I started watching their videos about a year ago just for fun, not because I wanted to play violin or anything. I don't come from a musical or even anything art background, I grew up in an environment where most people I know are doing Science or Business. Before TwoSet, I don't really listen to much classical music, which was a shame because I have found so many awesome pieces that have now became my favorite. I came to an orchestra for the first time a few months ago and it was beautiful. TwoSet really truly have made classical music became more relevant to a wider range of audience in the young generation. I appreciate and am thankful for what they have been doing. I still have not started playing any instrument, but recently, I have been entertaining thoughts like maybe I could start playing, I even look up information online like where to get lessons, etc.
They say that they had potential but plateaued and became TH-camrs instead… but honestly that was probably the best outcome for them. They single-handedly brought classical music into the online mainstream. They made classical musicianship seem fun, while still inspiring young musicians to keeping learning and practicing. Ask any musician on TH-cam who they think of when they think of classical music and TwoSetViolin will surely come up. They gained traction and now they probably make a decent amount of money off TH-cam and selling merch. All that is one hell of an achievement considering that we live in the TikTok generation. If they became elite professional soloists or something, I would wager that most of us watching would not know who they are, and Brett and Eddy’s lives would probably we a lot more stressful.
Totally agree ! Given their personality, I really think they're much happier doing TwoSet than they would have been if they had stayed in the "regular" classical industry. Plus, as you say, everything they're doing to change the perspective of people on classical music is awesome and is more "useful" for the classical world than two more soloists.
They underestimate themselves so much. Getting into TH-cam doesn't mean you aren't a musical success. You have motivated MILLIONS of musicians to realize, follow and fight for their art and there's nothing more sacred than that. I'm not a musician, but I feel like I can tell atleast this much- you guys mean a lot to a lot of people, and are so much more than what you think you are. Much love
The first time I had a fight with my m-in-law was because she couldn't recognise her own son. She kept mistaking him with all the asian / latinamericans in the group. They are of European descent. 😒
It's so cool to watch Eddy around 11:30 because he still moves his head the same way when he plays, readjusting his chin, etc. It's such a preservation of personality.
And I also don't think they realise how their friendship just makes people happy. I don't play any music instruments. But I watch their videos. I laugh when I see them goofing with each other and their unrestrained laughter.
@@EmilyWaddington I'm not sure why this happens, but their very close friendship makes their playing sound better. Not Chloe level (who is?) but like magic...
@@elissahunt Nice thoughts behind that sentence, but sometimes you should also know when it's time to stop instead of wasting energy by continuing something fruitless.
I just wanted to put this out, these guys are probably one of the most influential people in the field of classical music right now. Sure good composers and good players get people interested in classical music, but I feel like these these guys serve as a common anchor point that musicians and just people who appreciate classical music can bond together. Plus they are on TH-cam which makes their contributions much more influential.
Yeah if I’ve got to be honest, and I’m not sure if I’m just living under a rock, but really haven’t heard of a modern composer other than people who write the scores for movies. I feel like the internet has been able to cause a rebirth in interest in classical instruments bc it shows that you can play more than classical songs on them It’s a shame that people won’t remember people like Twoset in a couple decades
I've said it many times and I'll repeat it as much as needed : all of what TwoSet has done over the last seven years is the best thing that could have happened to classical music.
Why are we ignoring 1:49 ? The fact that Brett didn't phrase it as a joke and his expression slowly getting cold is so heartbreaking.. Guys, you give yourselves much less credit than you deserve. As someone who just picked violin, i genuinely think your childhood performances were good. None of them were horrible, because you visibly put all your effort in the limits of your ability at that time, and mistakes are part of being better musicians. Comparing ourselves to others is unavoidable, and being a prodigy or top class soloist is sadly not attainable for everyone, but you're never a failure. You may not have realised your dream carreers but you're opening more youth's minds to classical music and actually making it enjoyable and getting it out of the elitist aspect, especially in countries where musical training is not usual or available. And that is impressive in itself. I know saying all that may not erase some regret of the future that could have been for you two, but we are thankful you went up this path. Stay strong !
Ikr. Child scars are often the hardest to heal and it can seriously hold you back. There are seriously the 'perfect kids' for asian parents lol. The effect it has on esteem ìs terrifying

I teach piano and I was like...are you kidding me?! Eight years old? A lot of my middle school students couldn't even do that (granted, it's because they don't practice 😂 )
@@reepicheepsfriend yeah, I am actually a middle school student who can't do this. The sad thing is that I practice 8-11 hours a week... Guess 40 hours is the minimum in order to succeed
„Something happened in Uni“ ain’t that the most relatable thing, no matter your major. We gain a bit technique, we lose a bit Intuition. Art is a constant battle with yourself man, as an illustration major I can relate so hard to this.
I'm a brass player and I hit a range plateau in 2nd year. No matter what I did I just couldn't get any higher for about 6 months. It was so frustrating and I ended up with really bloodshot eyes from the strain of trying to get higher. Plus it's so easy to psych yourself out when you get in your own head. It does get better as you get older.
9:40 Eddy looks like the guy who would unintentionally break the hearts of girls in love with him in high school because he was too focused on practicing and didn't care lmao
To be honest, I feel like when you were young you didn't compare yourself to others and just went for it, no matter how it sounded. You were present and confident. As you got older, your technical skills got better but you somehow lost confidence or let life tell you you're not good enough. I understand why but do try and be easier on yourselves. After all, you play because you love it so why let a 7 year old prodigy video destroy your confidence? To me it's a matter of how you perceive yourselves more than how "bad" you actually are. So just keep going and know that you're good enough just the way you are, and you'll grow with time, in your own time.
OMG, did you say "we are only doing TH-cam videos"? You guys are resurrecting classical music! Even people who have no love for it are listening to classical music through your channel. GREAT JOB, man!!!!!!!
Honestly...blows my mind Eddy played wieniawski in grade 7. The thirds, harmonics, sul g, playing on two strings while trying to preserve the phrasing of the melody. I played that my senior year of high school, at the peak of my skill, and mad struggled T_T
Actually it does not matter how you sound while playing your violins when you were kids!..you both look cute with just holding your instrument!..😊.. you are an inspiration to every kid learning the violin!..🎻🎼🥰

I became so focused on the technical parts of English and plot devices and things like that, and ended up killing the stream of ideas that used to come so easily..
this is so relatable :"(
Ugh that happened to me too, I remember in year 10 my science teacher had told me he always enjoyed stories written by people who hadn’t studied writing at a higher level, I didn’t listen to him and now I don’t write anymore lol
That actually would explain a lot of things in my life...
I couldn't agree more
Well said! 👏👏 If they had just become soloists this channel probably wouldn't exist!
Well said.
Though there are no soloist, they are revolutionist
I agree, even though after watching Brett’s Mendelssohn there is no doubt that they would have been excellent soloists if they had really wanted to :)
I would've never discover this side of music if not for them.
Much love
This!
They mean a lot to many people. They're not just any other musician. Should be proud of themselves

I just wanted to put this out, these guys are probably one of the most influential people in the field of classical music right now.
