- Have trouble with your center locking diff failing to switch on, off, or works only half the time? This simple little device could be the solution to your problem. This of course will also work for your LX470 and maybe the GX470.

Great video! It solved my problem in less than 10 minutes and few scratches from the heat shield. Going to Lamin-x my fog lights this week!
Awesome! Thank you
any one have OEM part # ?
Nice vid! Haven't had to do that. Yet. Funny how the LC is suppose to be one of the most dependable vehicles ever built, but I sure have spent an awful lot of time ( and money) fixing things on my 100.
Thanks! Lol yeah I feel ya, but once it’s done it will last another 20 years …right? Haha
@@rywanders Right! I'm not really complaining, mine just needed ALOT of maintenance, and I'm doing it all myself because shop prices can be staggering.. but it's going fine so far and I love it! Your videos have helped a lot and also give me reference for possible future issues. So thank you for doing them, and keepem coming!
@@shenanigansagain5273 Thanks! yes although it needs a lot of work, that's part of the fun for me. I get to learn how to work on it myself and it's greatly rewarding. Thanks for stopping by for a chat! hope you stick around.
If you put the transfer box in low the centre diff should lock too
Super
On these switches, they tend to build up a thin layer of corosion on the internal contacts over time if you dont engage them often. That will make the contacts non-conductive and therefore, won't sense the transfer properly. You can verify this by using an ohmeter to measure the resistance acorss the two pins. When you measure it without engaging the switch, you'll measure an open circuit. When you engage the switch, you measure something above thousands or mega ohms (something other than near zero ohms). To break off that thin layer of insulation, remove the switch and place a couple layers of cloth on the concrete (i used a moving blanket) and bang the switch on the tip a dozen or so times to engage the switch each time to bang it. As you do this, you will remeasure the switch in its engaged position and you will see the resistance drop. After repeating this enough time, you will eventually get it to near zero ohms. That's worked for me and its been a couple of years without my problem coming back.
Awesome video! With my 100 it's the opposite, My center locking diff works but won't turn off lol. Afraid to try this bec. I wouldn't know how to turn it off or disengage it manually lol.
Lol might still be the lamp switch, but yeah i wouldn’t know what to do if it got stuck on..
I’ve got one the same it sticks on and won’t go off. None of the switches on the panel that centre diff lock is on work either. I’m thinking it’s electrical on mine but I’m gonna try the switch on the diff 1st. Did you get to the bottom of yours
Just did this exact swap in my 02’ LX470. Followed directions per this video and bought parts that were linked here.
EASY PEASY! The switch fixed my issue with the center diff lock and now engages flawlessly!
Just wanted to comment a huge THANK YOU to RY and his family for putting forth the effort to document, edit, and link this entire process!
A ton of value created just for the sake of creating and adding value.
SUBSCRIBED….(even tho you sold the truck)
Yo! This is great! Thank you so much for your kind words and support. Crazy how a simple switch can make such a difference. I hope to get another truck to build in the future, definitely one with less rust lol. Hard lesson learned.
So the part says its a back up switch? But it will work on a 2007 Landcruiser/LX ? I am getting an open circuit code on my scanner, noticed it was stuck in lock the other day turning was tight
Mines an 04 but I think as far as the center diff it’s the same, but I’m not 💯. I’d say order the part try it and if it’s not correct you can simply return it. I know it’s confusing and says it doesn’t fit, but it does and mine has been working great.
Excellent videos on the cruiser!
Hmm - I have a C1340 code but CDL seems to lock and stay locked...
I never had a code, but maybe it’s worth a shot?
I have the same code. My CDL works locks but A-TRAC is not working. Did some searching at this switch appears to be the cause. Hope it fixes my issue.
This helped fix my issue thx!
Glad to hear!
I have both the switch and wrench arriving today - hoping this will solve the problem!
Let me know!
@@rywanders I got the new switch installed and I'm 99% sure the diff locks, but vsc/off and diff lock illustrations do not illuminate in the instrument cluster.. I can't imagine the lights for the two would have burnt out but I guess that's my next order of business.
@@stough77 hmm that’s odd. You don’t usually hear about the lights burning out. Give us an update when you figure it out.
@@stough77 Did you figure it out? If so, what was the solution.
Bro can we change oil of diff lock in 100 series? I
Did gear oil changes. Videos coming soon
@@rywanders no i mean in 200 series you have to change the oil of center diff what about 100 series?
@@mrrio1053 yes you do.
There are two sensors on the top of my lx470. Is this switch on the left or right side?
Depends on which way you are facing it. Are they exactly the same? If not pull the plug and see which one is the same as this.
@@rywanders thanks for the reply! So I figured it out. The one at the front and top of the t case is the CDL sensor. The ones in the back is the neutral and lo sensor. The back right is the low sensor.
I get my sensor in tomorrow. Hope it fixed the issue! I have CDL but no light. I think it’ll fix it. Wish me luck!
@@thomaspham8852 fingers crossed 🤞 my friend! Glad you got it sorted
Yeah just got it fixed. In my 98 lx470, the light will come on if I put it in 4 lo as well (unless you have the 7 pin mod). If your light doesn’t come on in 4lo(computer puts CDL on auto in early years) then your 4 lo sensor isn’t working. I got my 4lo sensor working by taking it out, cleaning, and pushing it up and down a bunch.
I actually think my original sensor is still good. I bet it works after cleaning. So if anyone wants to test it. I’m happy to send it to them. Thanks!
@@thomaspham8852 nice work! Thanks for sharing this.
