  • 100 Series Land Cruiser Fans , In this video I will show you how to resolve a common issue with later model 100 Series Land Cruisers.
    The Center Differential Lock switch on these Land Cruisers tend to fail as they age.
    I personally believe this is due to heat cycles, as most owners never use the center diff locker. This repair is very easy tho the working space is very tight. Those with bigger hands might find this repair much more difficult.
    The good news is, the part is cheap, you only need one tool, and this should take less than 30 minutes.
    Last bit of advice, wait for the car to be completely cool before attempting this repair!

    My wife was driving my GX 470 to the local store last night, when she was at the light she wanted to adjust the mirrors will our Locking Center Diff button is right next to it, will she pushed that, she stated it was very difficult to park the SUV, and I tried and it was steering very strange, the light was blinking on, s we left the ride, what can we do to fix it or correct it? I have never gone off road with a SUV.

      From what you described, all you need to do is turn off the Center Diff lock. It should be as easy as pressing the button again and driving the vehicle. The Diff should disengage fairly quick after it has been placed in the off position and driven a few feet or so.

    Do you feel that the 2005 cruiser is more refined and more powerful than the 1999 cruiser?

      @KRTLyfe  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, it definitely feels very different tho. The best way i can describe it is the 2005 feels like a GX470 and the 1999 feels closer to a 80 series.

    Looking for a little help. I live in Zambia and have a 2005 100 Series. The CDL is not working. Currently, when you press the button or engage 4LO, the Rear Diff Lock light comes on! There is no Rear Locker! Do you think this switch could resolve the issue? Or do you have other thoughts? Thanks for any ideas.

      That is interesting, I’m not 100 percent sure but being that you are in a different market your 100 could have slightly different specs. It’s hard to call on that one. I would say search around ih8mud and see if you can find any leads there. You could also try doing some figure 8s in the dirt to make the lockers engage.

    270k miles on clock and I never seen this issue. Problem is sometimes with REAR diff, this electric engine and corrosion, but center is ok.

      Yeah when I found that we had an issue I went on Mud and saw a few posts from others with the same issue.

    Plan on swapping out this switch to address another issue. Went to go take a look before the switch and wrench come it and boy is that a tight spot. Thanks for the video, will come in handy.

    Great video! Just did it myself and fixed the issue on a 2000 lx470.
    One important thing that you didn’t mention is that there is THREE sensors like that in the transfer case (one for neutral, one for low range and one for the diff lock).
    I accidentally started with the neutral one and realized it was wrong just because the connector is slightly different and wouldn’t fit the sensor.
    Now, the neutral and low range one are in the back of the transfer case (and easily accessible).
    The one that fixes the telltale issue is unfortunately the most difficult to reach and it’s in the upper front of the transfer case. You have to access it between the right catalytic converter and the front drive shaft.
    The most challenging part of this job is finding a way to move the 27mm wrench around in that tight space.
    It’s a great feeling seeing that light pop up after spending 1 hour under the car :)

    My LC 2001 100 series has gon into centre diff lock and light is on. My problem is it won’t go off. The rest of the switches on the same panel don’t seem to work. Do you have any ideas what this would be .
    Thanks

      Have you tried doing a figure eight in gravel? Typically from what I,ve read on IH8MUD this will unstick stuck diffs.

    • @demolitionman3991

      @@KRTLyfe I have tried that a couple of times . I’ve now sent in the switch panel to an electrical repair shop as some of the switches are not working and hoping this is the problem , thanks
      I will post the results when I get them in a couple of days

    I’m looking at buying a 2002 with a 120,000 miles on it.
    What should I look for ?
    It has height control and diff locker
    Can I put a 2 inch lift on it?

    • @KRTLyfe
      @KRTLyfe  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wow, that is really low mileage! Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth! I’ve seen people do all types of suspension set ups with the 100. If you do a lift you will have to delete the height control FYI (the entire system). You can find a lot more useful information on IH8MUD. Thanks for watching commenting and subscribing!
