    I particularly like the grim dark "slap chop" finish. From 3 feet away on a gaming table it would be hard to tell apart though! You now need to paint 1 more to make them a legal unit!!! lol

      Agreed, overall I didn’t particularly enjoy the slap chop routine but that 1 poxwalker was great. I think that any of the 3 techniques is good, just what you enjoy personally. All the extra paints you need for slap chop makes it not worth it for me though when combined with the drybrushing.

      Funny how distance changes things.

    'slapchop'! Not sure I like my preferred style described that way 😏 'Blanchitsu' (or whatever) sounds better. Anyway, very good vid, as always 💪

      It’s a stupid name 😂 I assume you realised I was referring to you when I said this style isn’t new as most TH-camrs seem to think it is! Still think it looks good but it’s too much drybrushing for me 😂😂

      Try this: Black spray undercoat, grey spray midcoat (like zenithel, but aim the spray horizontally, rather than from above), white drybrush topcoat.
      It doesn't look as good as drybrushing multiple layers, but it looks good enough, and cuts out a lot of faff. Really good for horde armies without driving yourself mad with drybrushing.
      In fact, I've got some orks I'm going to try doing without any drybrushing, but with an actual white zenithal highlight on top of the grey. And yes, I'm the laziest painter in the world 😂

    Love the really dark one, I aim to get that style in all of my minis :)

      A whole army in that style would look great!

    Great demo, I struggle with contrast as I often cross over sections of paints :(
    Also I might have missed it, but how long did the dip wash take?

    • @adamshobbystuff
      @adamshobbystuff  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The dip wash took about 1.45 for the 3, roughly the same as the slapchop, what took longer was the next steps, that took about 20 mins vs the slapchops 15 ish.

    Hm I kinda like the SlapChop most, because it pops out the Grimdark more. I also found that the contrasts were just a little stronger and sharper on this one^^
    Thank for this video. Helped me great time choosing my style for an Astra Militarum Darktide themed Grendels Rejects Killteam. Subscribed :)

      Awesome, glad the vid helped! I do think I’ll find an excuse to do something else in that grimdark style, just doesn’t fit with my current projects..

    Nice one Adam! Excellent video, I learnt a fair bit there thank you! I agree the Blanchitisu mini looked sick, but it's more for display piece instead of the tabletop.
    I think theses sculpts look awesome too 👍🏻

      Cheers Adam, I think I like the Blanchitsu style one so much as it was a total accident 😂 it’s always good to try new techniques and learn.

    Fantastic educational content my man and a great comparison too. Definitely taking the tips away to try on the wet blending. This deserves a whole lot of views!

    Nice job bud. Can anyone tell my way it extra sucks if you paint over your line with a contrast paint compared to the regular ones ? Like they are harder to fix ? How ?

    • @adamshobbystuff
      @adamshobbystuff  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Contrast is a very thin paint that works by using the underneath base layer for its highlights/shades, if you go over a section that already has colour on it will give you a sometimes wildly different colour, the problem is that if the original layer was also contrast you can’t just paint that over the mistake as again it will make it a different colour to originally, the advantage though is that if you spot your mistake when you make it because of how thin it is you can correct it super easily, just don’t let it dry! Regular paint is thicker and does a better job of going over previous layers so is easier to fix when dried but slower/harder to paint with initially in other ways.

      I totally understand now. Thanks so much bud for telling me that. Makes sense for sure.@@adamshobbystuff

    I'd say dipwash at a glance.

      My preferred style 😃

    • @te9591
      @te9591 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @adamshobbystuff you can see it. The first has less shade, the second is kind of "dirty," and the third is in between. Not to knock the others completely, though.

      I think they all work and would suit different armies/gamers, it’s nice to show alternatives at times.
