  • A series in which I try to fix a Citroen 2CV I bought sight-unseen on eBay in increasingly futile attempts to drive the car 10 miles. In this episode, I spend far too long scratching my head before giving up and spending money.

    Great job man!! I’m glad it worked fine what you did. I purchased a 1982 Charleston last November, and I am very happy with the car. Currently I’m replacing the clutch and a few other things. Thanks for the videos!

      Thanks so much for the encouragement. We're going to Portland this weekend and I was like, "I want to take the 2CV" and my wife was like, WHY???

    Many years ago I fitted a new Solex carb for a friended. The car then failed to start; after much trouble shooting I found there were no holes drilled for the fuel in the new "factory tested" carb.

      I have been a few times at Burton in the Netherlands, seen the workshop were they overhaul engines and gearboxes, when they say it's tested, it truly is.

    And yes, the 2 CV is a wonderful and friendly car. The French often do good things. ! 😉🙂I had 2 including a 2 CV 6!

    I’m late into this one but the small length of rubber fuel pipe coming out of the tank is notorious for perishing and leaking leaving the pump sucking air & fuel. The Chinese carbs are hit & miss. Some people have had no issues but they are cheaper for a reason. These cars are brilliant fun and reliable when you get the issues dialled out. Good luck with it.🤞

    You said the tyres were low so that could make the car seem sluggish. However at the end you said that there were smells from the front brakes. If either of them are binding that will also take the edge of what passes for acceleration on a 2CV. They need all the help they can get! I had a Dyane with the 602. Acceleration was noisy but if you kept you foot flat to floor all the time you could average close to 70 for many miles. What you lost going uphill you gained back down the other side. These engines thrive on revs.

      Yea you'll see in the video series that I rebuilt the front and rear brakes and it's now running great

    I had the same problem. New carburetor from China... Everything was ok but the idle wasn't. Finally I bought a carburetor from Burton in two days was at home and now works perfectly :)

      @@corrieb74 Haha Also I went crazy with this problem. I changed a lot of spáře parts. I checked everything until I came to the conclusion that it had to be the chinese carburetor... I spend time and money like you.
      But now I can enjoy the 2CV again :D

    You've obviously picked up the local accent! heh heh heh Didn't realize where you were (missed the Seattle tag above the title!) until the gas station. A good friend lives not very far from that one. Have made beer runs to it at 0130 hrs a number of times! Interesting car you are tinkering with!

    I own a Citroën dyane with the same engine, very nice car and its carburettors are capricious and we have the disease of the games with the throttle axis which makes them run away from gasoline over time

      indeed it must have been complicated to assemble, however an old car cannot be without modification, it no longer has its original chassis because it lived in the mountains (salt in winter), however the 602 was mounted because more efficient months I still own the 435 my same in France this and rare I went to the Citroën centenary in 2019 and on the 100 dyane present I was the only dyane 4 with its original engine.
      take care and pamper it and it will give it back to you a hundredfold very beautiful video and more very weak car if we do not neglect the maintenance like many cars French cars do not sound as reliable as we say.

    Second video I’ve seen these last 3 days from the states where water in the fuel is a problem. Isn’t US fuel pre loaded with ethanol at all?

    • @corrieb74
      @corrieb74  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      US fuel is up to 10% ethanol, yea. In the end it wasn't water in the fuel. I put in an additive and it made no difference. As you'll see, the gunk that came out of the fuel tank was one of the culprits.

    • @Robert-nz2qw
      @Robert-nz2qw 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah I had s’en that before writing. But it surprised me that water was suspected as this really isn’t a problem at all if the petrol has ethanol in it. And now both you and LegitStreetCars had the same suspicion.
      But thanks for clarifying and hey, these vids are great - production wise too.

    If it runs lean change the jets - I think you don not understand a 2 CV they DO NOT use vacuum in anyway or means

    • @corrieb74
      @corrieb74  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Any car that's not forced induction creates vacuum in the intake. If you have a vacuum leak and 5% of your intake air is not passing through the carburettor, you'll be 5% leaner. However as I found out subsequent to this video, the intake on the 2CV has a small hole in it that was blocked, so in that respect you're correct - it shouldn't have been able to hold a static vacuum. These videos were about the process of me learning the 2CVs quirks. Not a "how to" guide.

    Wasn't that carb from China? That really would explain it.

    • @corrieb74
      @corrieb74  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep previous owner bought it off eBay. It *seemed* fine and this is why I persevered swapping out components / cleaning. In the end though, the Burton one I eventually bought has just worked.

      @@corrieb74 Never buy Chinese parts for anything. Still at least you got it going. I'm toying with the idea of a 2CV but I'm waiting to see what restrictions the world dictatorship are going to try and impose.
