My mother passed away in September & as I was going through her storage, crying & mourning the loss of such an amazing person, I asked her for a sign that she knew how much I loved & missed her, as I was opening one of the last boxes. Right there on top, was the Rush star man concert t-shirt from the 2112 tour, my very first concert from when I was in junior high school. It was/is in pristine condition, since I must have only worn it a few times. Of course it’s about 3 sizes too small, but I knew right away that it was her way of giving me a hug. I had no idea she had kept that, or why she did. I used to drive her crazy playing their albums loud enough for the neighborhood to hear, (I mean it’s Rush, you gotta crank it!) But that made them even more special to me, than they already were, & that’s saying something because anyone who knows me, knows they’re my all-time favorite band. That t-shirt is now on a shadow box, hanging the wall of our game-room. When my BFF from back them, who went to that concert with me, as well as many more, called me & said “sweetie, I don’t how to tell you this, but Neil....”.... we both cried & tried to comfort each other, as though he were a close friend or family. That’s what it felt like. She & I both get it, while others may think we’re crazy for being so emotional about a rockstar whom we never actually met, but reading these comments, I’m so glad we’re not the only ones.

They're too clean. All married family men who don't cheat on their wives and don't trash hotels or end up in detox/rehab. That's why they are out of the mainstream and not on the cover of Rolling Stone. All their songs do not contain raunchy lyrics. And yet, they are hugely popular! And because of all the things I just mentioned, as well as their music, is why I love this band!

He was a treasure on the skins. But what kind of man would seriously write the lyrics to The Larger Bowl and yet bring new life into such a horrible world? I don't mean to be a jerk, but what happened between Vapor Trails and Snakes and Arrows to make him go from writing the lyrics to One Little Victory to those of The Larger Bowl?

This dinner, for me, shows why Rush was such a long lasting band: after more than 40 years they are still good friends. No competition, no envy, no hard feelings. They are able to sit down, have a 5 hour dinner joking and laughing. They did enjoy eachother as friends, as musicians, as human beings. That's why is so sad for me to know that Alex and Geddy are probably so heartbroken right now. Any way this video is one of the best things ever for a Rush fan, it really warms the heart to see them together having a ball. I'd like to remember this forever. Thanks Sam Dunn for this. It might have been 34 years ago, I was a professional belly dancer when Rush came to town for a concert. Afterwards, they had a Hawaiian type buffet for them but they could not find a Hula dancer, so I got hired to dance for them. Afterwards we got to sit and chat for a little bit and Alex told me he liked Greek food and wanted to know how to make stuffed grape leaves! I explained the process, and he said there were some great Greek restaurants in Toronto. All three of the men were super nice to me and I'll never forget that.

@Andrea R - listen to the song Afterimage, from Grace Under Pressure. It’s about the loss of a close friend of the boys. It’ll make you cry, and rock, and soothe your soul, all at the same time.
It perfectly describes the feeling. I lost one of my closest friends-like a kid brother, really-in 1985, and it was the saddest moment in my life. Remember all of the times you had together, and cherish the random dreams when you will see him again. (Oddly enough, they have been very rare, for me, and it always feels like he was really there.)
Also, I just had a thought: write down every memory you have, now, while they’re still fresh in your mind. I wish I had started a journal back then, because I have forgotten so many things over the years! And, talk about him, often, with your mutual friends, and encourage them to share their memories and stories, and write them down, also. Preserve your memories while you can!
If you believe that there is more after this life, then maybe your hope will be like mine: some day, when I pass away, I want to see him walk out of the mist to welcome me, saying, “You’re always late...I’ve been waiting for you!” 😜 And, give me the warmest, heartfelt, and tears-of-joy and laughter-laden, bear hug ever!
For a while, you will continue to be incredulous at each occasion in which he would’ve been there, and you will always miss him, but it will hurt less and less over time.
Just keep listening to Rush-you’ll always have their music to remind you.
Hope that helps a little bit.
P.S. My buddies and I couldn’t bring ourselves to look closely at his body in the open casket, but we could see-from a distance - that he had on a t-shirt. He was a huge football fan, and my mom said that it was a Raiders shirt! He was, of course, a huge Rush fan, also! If my memory serves me well, we thought that, maybe, it was a Van Halen T-shirt! Rock On always, my brother, Mike O’Hern!! 🤗❤️🤘🏻🎸 🥁 🎹 🎤🎸🤘🏻

Usually it is sad to see rockers in their older years ... a shadow of themselves. These men transcend that fate. Here they are travelers on a journey together, they have grown together - as if brothers-in-arms - over the years. They now accept who they are today as well as who they were yesterday. They belong in a Tolkienian story; this scene appears after our heroes endure many years of trials, tribulations, mutual peril, dark terror, and just as often times of pure kindness or beauty. Finally their journey has brought them to this very warm, cozy and lovely dinner to not just relive their glory days, but to share something deeper.

Seriously folks, have you EVER seen 3 people who have worked & lived together so closely in such a volitile environment for so many hours per day for 40+ years, get along this well, and so clearly, genuinely enjoy the others company so deeply? I never seen the members of any other band be so childishly playful and silly this late in both age & career. Seriously, I've never seen Keith & Mick, Frey & Henley, Queen, etc. display this level of mirth & happiness & mutual respect. What IS their secret? :-P
Oh, and to guy that responded to my previous post, you're absolutely right, I really do have far too much time on my hands! :-)

it's quite refreshing for sure. They seem naturally at ease around each other.
Although it helps when there's only three of you and everyone gets to share in writing royalties : )

I know what you mean. They are an extreme rarity when it comes to rock bands. Also not to mention they are still mentally and physically sharp. Unlike most their age who's bodies have been totally destroyed by all the drugs they did in their younger years.

I think what most don't understand about RUSH fans is these songs carried us along in our lives. Our favorites bring back memories of a simpler time. There are like old friends that bring music into your lives and the joy of their 40 year musical union.

One day in 1993 Robert Plant and some dudes who were either his band or crew came in the diner where my Dad and I ate lunch sometimes. They were driving to Louisville from Cincinnati on tour. Nobody knew what to make of this long haired Welshman in jam shorts . Naturally I knew who he was so I was amazed he was there. He treated the waitresses very well and flirted with them in a really respectful way. I was glad he didn't act rude or entitled . He was patient with the handful of people who knew who he was and took a group picture with myself and a few others. And then he tipped the waitress 100 dollars and said southern Indiana reminded him of his home in the black country in Wales. When we got home I showed my Dad a poster I had of Led Zeppelin and pointed out exactly who he was and why I was so amazed. Dad knew who I was into Zeppelin so he was happy for me. And he was surprised at how nice Plant was because he thought British rock stars were crazy bastards who were drunk all the time and acted like lunatics.
