Nicely written note. It's true, Rush to me are like really great friends that have your back, and celebrate good times and help you get through the rough times.
What these dudes had together was very very special. Imagine being in a three-piece rock band, being immensely talented, going around the world and back many times over, playing countless shows in front of God alone knows just how many people, selling millions and millions of albums and four decades later...you're still the best of friends instead of absolutely hating each other. That is indeed special
The band that kept me inspired through my whole life. At 52, these guys are still here as part of my life as I nativage in my second half. 32 years of marriage ending sadly, has me resetting back to my days of Rush playing non-stop. When I say Rush has been part of my back bones, I mean it. 😢❤😊
Just ordered Neil Peart's coffee table book on his car collection called Silver Surfers. Looking forward to getting it when it ships out in May. Being a drummer and lover of cars myself, I can't wait to get it.
@@grantmackinnon6449I've read his book Roadshow, but not Ghost Rider yet. I can't imagine what he must have been going through at that time. Very tragic.
Just when I couldn't imagine liking these guys anymore than I do, they do this. Outstanding, guys. Nothing but love for you as a band, as musicians and as humans.
Very well said friend. Started listening to these guys in 1978, as an aspiring musician. They cast a massive shadow over my life, and years later, continue to do so. So happy to share the memories and laughter with others. Cheers
@dkelley9661 Absolutely. I'm a self taught guitarist myself and started listening to RUSH on the 2112 album. It was my neighbors, and he put it on while playing chess. Perfect music for that. They have been my favorite band since then. My best friend is a drummer, and we would sit around listening to RUSH alot. Sure wish Neil was still here. I always called him the "Human Metronome." He was brilliant. Thanks for the appreciation friend.
I turned 60 at the end of last year and Rush have been part of my life since the late 70's. Alex and Geddy are such exemplary musicians and human beings. Incredibly funny and unaffected by their fame and fortune. Geddy Lee's book ( which I'm still listening to on Audible) has in Chapter Three one of the most moving and affecting pieces of writing I have ever heard, read by the man himself too. It concerns his Parents' and family's horrendous experiences during WW2. It really is a miracle that he ever was born and therefore Rush ever existed and I, as I'm sure anyone watching this will agree, we should be so humbled and grateful for this fact ❤.
I was at the Vancouver show, and the question I submitted was the very last part of the show. I was so excited when I heard Geddy 'Effin' Lee call my name. That brief interaction with my musical hero (as are Alex and Neil) was moment in time I'll never forget. Jann Arden was the guest host, and she was fantastic, but to be there and witness Geddy and Alex talk about the past would've been such an incredible evening.
At the Toronto show Geddy said, “Oh wow.” “Hi Sonya, thank you for that” to me in the front row when George Stroumboulopoulos told him that I donated a seat plaque for the Massey Hall revitalization that reads, “Some memories last forever” RUSH, during the audience question portion of the show.😊
Two of my very favorite people!!! Always wanted to see Rush live, but our Band was always playing when Rush came through Oklahoma City. We got lucky to see them on a Sunday night in Tulsa. Was easily the best 100 miles I drove to a Concert EVER!!!!! LOVE YOU GUYS THANKS FOR ALL THOSE AWESOME MEMORIES!!!!!!!!
When Alex is talking about the new drummer audition, specifically about "the next guy", his face, voice and mannerisms are NEIL PEART!!! OMG!!! Neil entered the room!!! Thank you for sharing this video!! Thank you God for RUSH in our lifetime!
I’m a diehard Yes fan but over the years have listened and loved Rush. Hard to imagine a band like Rush were intact for all those years while Yes had consistently changed band members. Much love to Alex & Geddy and a heartfelt prayer to Neil ❤️
This conversation is bringing me to tears. I love these guys so much and to see the love they have for each other is just so beautiful. Rush forever! 😊❤
I struggle with being grateful for Rush and extremely sad for how they ended. Pratts passing still hurts everyday. It's a weird thing. No other band gives me a friendly feeling. I feel as though they're my friends and we just haven't seen each other in a while. I love these guys.
You guys have had me laughing and crying for an hour. Thanks for the 40 years. Fan from Indiana. I'm 60 years old. Not many people can say my 1st album I bought was 2112 some 45 years ago. Thank you for the memories.
I can't put into words how much I love watching these two reminisce and make each other laugh. Every friendship is a gift to the two friends, but this friendship has been an inexpressibly rich gift to the world. Thank you, Geddy and Alex!
This is great! Thanks Alex and Geddy for your cool stories. 63 today.. and loved your music since 15. You played a show called 'Rush's First Rockout' at The newly built Joe Louis Arena at Detroit in the 80's. A show I'll never forget! ✌
Life is way too short, and it goes by way too fast. Everything... every single day and memorable experience, from your first kiss, to your first car, to your first trip to Europe, to the seemingly endless days of youth, to all the precious days spent with family now deceased, to memories of sweet pets, to your first RUSH or LED ZEPPELIN concert, to raising a child... it all becomes an overwhelming blur towards the end, when you realize the years in front of you are short now, and the existential finality of life coming to an end will negate and wipe out all the beauty and goodness that this brief spark of life gave us...
Is he lost? It seems that his 'return' has been mentioned countless times over the centuries, but he never showed! If he's taken the wrong galactic turn somewhere, he should have used Siri! @@christophersorel6056
I’m so grateful for all the 40 years with Rush. I can’t imagine Neil being gone and slowly I disappearing for 3 1/3 years. He was such a strong man and hung on for hi family.
Any wonder folks love Rush music….these two guys wrote such complicated and complex music and yet you would love to hang out with them…as down to earth and uniquely “Canadian” as they come. They were focused, worked hard and deserve every ounce of their fame and fortune. Geddy is such a mature, humorous man and Alex is just a quick witted quipper of quips…more licks in these lads than the best Labrador Retriever you could ever own. So sad their mate Neil has left us…never one for the limelight but also a stand up human being whom was as kind as they come. He also wrote the lyrics which clearly showed his brilliance along with his absolute stunning drumming skills. RIP Neil. Alex and Geddy perhaps one day will carry on and make new music although I for one can understand how they may want to coast a bit and just chill with family, friends and fans. A true example of how one can achieve such great things by focus, hard work, honesty and sticking to beliefs of humanity. God Bless.
This brought me to tears. Thank you so much Alex. Thank you so much Geddy. Thank you Neil. Your music means the world to me, and you're great people as well.
This is so enjoyable, I have muscle pain in my face because I have not stopped smiling since it started. The friendship between these two guys is very strong and inspirational. Watching them discuss is a real treat.
Thank You to Geddy and Alex and the creative team and producer(s) and director(s) for this wonderful videotaping of a very genuine conversation between two men who have been best friends, obviously, since 7th grade and have spent the next 60 years together creating incredible music that has not only given them pleasure and wonderful careers and lots of wealth beyond the monetary part of thirty business, but they gave the world music that changed our lives and the way we see the world and an escape from reality when we needed it, sometimes very badly needing that. To be a proverbial fly on the wall, or maybe a person sitting in the booth next to Alex and Geddy in some pub , is how it felt to listen to them carry-on as if they were the only ones who could hear them talking and laughing was a special way of getting an interview with the two of them that they didn't have to put on a game face to answer questions asked by some Jo urnalist. Thanks for seeing the human beings behind the genius of one of the best bands of the last 40 years. Neil is greatly missed but will never be forgotten and Gsddy and Alex won't ever let that happen.
My God, just riveting as always. Somehow all my memories seem to flood back listening to these gods of rock speak. Whilst I’m in Australia and never had the pleasure of seeing these gods play live, yet somehow I have many memories of listening to Rush on my portable tape player whilst travelling to and from school daily. These guys were a part of my daily life, and the cherished memories of envisioning myself being part of a larger crowd watching them play live will never leave. Thanks for all you have gifted the world. Forever grateful for your music.
I like that very much.that's one thing I miss in my retirement, Rush putting out something new, this helped,so thanks, praise God and Jesus, and God bless everyone that happens to see this.

The music of my life. 3 nice Canadian boys who wrote music for themselves, that we loved as much or more as they did. I hope we can see Alex and Geddy on stage again one day, to honour their friend. Thank you for all of the moments, whether on stage or listening to songs that made me smile and cheer, that occasionally brought tears. I feel like I know you, even though I don't. I was there at Massey Hall that night, hoping it was going to be Alex as the guest host and the cheering was so loud when he came out! A great night, with those 2 friends (& George too, of course!), just hanging out, on the lighted stage (with a few thousand of their closest, distant friends). The smile on my face will never go away. Thanks boys.
We could never thanks these guys and Neil enough for all of the awesome music over the years that has helped many fans get through difficult times and just forget for a while!!!
I loved the stories, the partnership and excellence, but more than anything, the thing that has endeared me to this band for many decades is the genuine, loving friendship between the three of them.
From a Gary to Geddy your one of the most talented musician of all time! No one touches your talent on bass, keyboards, and singing! You are the definition of Unique and RUSH is not RUSH without your playing and vocals! To quote the movie: I LOVE YOU MAN! Alex and Neil as well!!
These guys have brought so much joy into so many people’s lives. Thank you Geddy for sharing your life both on stage and in private. Thank you for the music that will live on forever.
Time stand still...... the music of my youth!!! My first Rush concert was the "Subdivisions Tour" @ (the now gone) Joe Louis Arena Detroit, MI. Every time they came through Detroit went to see them! Making Memories....I love you guy's! Neil your passing deeply hit me RIP.
The Christmas I was about to get my first guitar... Much Music was on the tube and I heard and saw the live performance for "Marathon" from "A Show of Hands". It knocked me out and changed my life forever. That moment was the reason I picked up a bass. Geddy's book is the greatest music biography I have read to date. Heartwarming, funny and powerful. Left me speechless and I am still trying to find the words to give it a proper review that it deserves. Please buy it if you haven't already. Shoutout to Daniel Richler for his contributions to this masterwork of musical literature.
For some of these individuals who attended this event, and are complaining of not seeing the entire segment posted: There was also the Q&A part with George Stroumboulopoulos, which was another hour. I think CBC's goal was to just have the part with Geddy and Alex interacting with one another and sharing stories. The history of those two seeing concerts and performing at the Massey Hall venue is probably another factor as well. Be grateful that this is uploaded to be viewed at all. Thank you.
Thank you, Mr. Lee. And Mr. Lifeson. For sharing your life. Your lives. For being a class act. For your grace and humility. And mostly, thank you for all the great music that was the sound track for the bulk of my life. Peace to you and yours! Cheers!!!
I was fortunate to see Rush during the 'Hold Your Fire' tour. Also, another classic watching my Cleveland Indians at the time playing Toronto Blue Jays in Toronto and seeing Geddy behind home plate during the game. Thank you for sharing this treasure piece of history. May God bless you, gentlemen.
As a drummer, and a total fan of Neil's, I TOTALLY Respect that you respected Neil;s wishes to not tell anyone the truth or mention that he was ill. He totally 1,000,000% deserved what he wanted and you guys did the right thing respecting his wishes. You're both true friends to him. I'm saddened by his loss but I'm happy to hear that you guys remained true to him as good friends would. I'm not mad at you guys for holding that back!!!
For over 40 years the fans who were considered nerdy and out of step with the mainstream and the critics, have turned out to be not only the most loyal, but well read and intelligent fan base ever. This book tour proves that.
Wow! What a treasure to run across this video with my all time favorite band since I first heard them back in the 70s. Perfect in their crafts; lead guitar, bass and drummer...none is better. Great to see this part of their humanity and true neighborly and brotherly love. Who could say anything better than all of you fans out there. I'll give it a try.....Blah blah blah, blah blah, blah blah blah blah! I'm without words my friends.
I literally just finished the book yesterday. I love their chemistry and miss Neil so much! Thank you so much for posting this! What a ride... What a journey!
Working man was my very first RUSH song to ever learn in 1975. I was 15 and had just started playing guitar. The second was Spirit of the Radio which I played with a tapping technique because I still couldn’t pick it quite fast enough. That was the beginning of my becoming a die hard RUSH fan. Tom Sawyer, Red Barchetta, Temple of Syrinx(the whole thing!) which I awash learning during my Third Middle East tour in the Military. What a blast it has been to follow and be able to play your music these many years you guys. Music has carried me through many hard times and you guys have always been right there beside me the whole ride! Thank you🙏🙏🙏
Those two characters have been a huge part of my musical life, and I even got to meet them both briefly on the Power Windows tour when I was working as a stagehand......It's still hard to believe Neil is gone....my first real drum hero and an inspiration to me when I took up the drums.....Thankyou RUSH for all the years of greatness
Thanks for all you have created for us to enjoy over our lives and to share stories like old freinds do.From a born and raised west end Torontonian misfit and shortlived bass player due to being inspired by Geddy. Rest In Peace Mr. Peart
Geddy is spot on regarding Alex's resilience and brighter outlook. Lifeson's humour is scattered all over their 40 years. It's evident in his phrasing and quirky chops. His picking speed and he can easily move away from the rhythm, which being the best, led to opening a lot of creativity. You always want to be with people that challenge you and imo, when i first heard them, they simply challenged each other and channelled it. Their story is mind blowing and as Canadian as it gets.
Damn but this is just amazing to watch. These guys have been such a huge part of my life, unfortunately I never got the chance to see Rush live. Thank you Geddy and Lerx!

Nicely written note. It's true, Rush to me are like really great friends that have your back, and celebrate good times and help you get through the rough times.
Ok! Whose dicing onions? A lifetime of inspiration from these hosers. God bless them.
It’s Effin’ special
Unbelievable. The world was blessed with 3 geniuses. Such a unique band that spoke to so many people outside the mainstream.
Spontaneous Genius 21:55 to 23:20. amazing part of interview
The band that kept me inspired through my whole life. At 52, these guys are still here as part of my life as I nativage in my second half. 32 years of marriage ending sadly, has me resetting back to my days of Rush playing non-stop. When I say Rush has been part of my back bones, I mean it. 😢❤😊
Dude - been there. You'll be fine. Keep the faith.
Chin up, full speed ahead. All the best to you.
@@MotownGuitarJoe Thank you kind soul!
I don’t know you, but keep going! One breath, one hour and one day at a time!

NEW BOOK IDEA: We need ALL of Rush’s lyrics in one comprehensive book…filled with never-before-seen photography.
I'd buy it!
Just ordered Neil Peart's coffee table book on his car collection called Silver Surfers. Looking forward to getting it when it ships out in May. Being a drummer and lover of cars myself, I can't wait to get it.
@@thebob01read his book Ghost Rider" if you haven't. It's about his motorcycle tour after the loss of his wife and daughter
@@grantmackinnon6449I've read his book Roadshow, but not Ghost Rider yet. I can't imagine what he must have been going through at that time. Very tragic.
I am a RUSH fan in Japan.
Thanks for sharing your memories of your one and only tour in Japan.
With love and respect from the Far East.
They need to do a podcast series like this.
Just when I couldn't imagine liking these guys anymore than I do, they do this.
Outstanding, guys.
Nothing but love for you as a band, as musicians and as humans.
Well stated, my friend ….
Very well said friend. Started listening to these guys in 1978, as an aspiring musician. They cast a massive shadow over my life, and years later, continue to do so. So happy to share the memories and laughter with others. Cheers
@dkelley9661
Absolutely.
I always called him the "Human Metronome."
He was brilliant.
P.S. 'Up yours' Aerosmith! 😂😂.
I had the same experience in Cleveland. To be 3rd row and have my music hero acknowledge and interact with me was amazing.
At the Toronto show Geddy said, “Oh wow.” “Hi Sonya, thank you for that” to me in the front row when George Stroumboulopoulos told him that I donated a seat plaque for the Massey Hall revitalization that reads, “Some memories last forever” RUSH, during the audience question portion of the show.😊
@@sonyaskolik877 that's awesome.
@@afterimage289 totally. My wife was so excited for me that she began crying because she knows how much Rush means to me.
I'm shedding a tear now, but that's fine ❤
I struggle with being grateful for Rush and extremely sad for how they ended. Pratts passing still hurts everyday. It's a weird thing. No other band gives me a friendly feeling. I feel as though they're my friends and we just haven't seen each other in a while. I love these guys.
Well put. RIP PROFESSOR!!
Agree, me too.

Many bands don’t make it 15 years let alone 40
@@rockymtn1291 What they had together when Rush was still a going concern was special. And rare in the music business.
To pass an evening with a drink and a friend. Thank you for this. I got to grow older with RUSH...im soo blessed. We all are.
How can you not love them, of course as musicians, but really love them as humans.
10:55 - The friendship that these two have had over the decades really _has been_ amazing.
That was an hour very well-spent - thanks, guys!
OK… THAT was without a doubt the COOLEST non-musical, on stage Rush show I’ve EVER seen!!
🤘🤩🤘
I watched the whole video and time flew. It was so interesting. You can see how much Geddy and Alex love each other.
This is great! Thanks Alex and Geddy for your cool stories. 63 today.. and loved your music since 15. You played a show called 'Rush's First Rockout' at The newly built Joe Louis Arena at Detroit in the 80's. A show I'll never forget! ✌
Amazing ❤
Just two great, humble geniuses. Thanks guys for all the great memories and music!
Thanks for that ray of sunshine
Okay mister happy. Thx. Maybe go stand in the rain now and wake up.
Find Jesus. That’s what he’s all about. It’s not over after this life my friend.

God Bless.
It's like you automatically become part of how close their .friendship is by just watching and listening to them. True Cnadian Icons
This brought me to tears. Thank you so much Alex. Thank you so much Geddy. Thank you Neil.
Your music means the world to me, and you're great people as well.
I will be buying that book!!! Thanks for getting together and telling us fans some stories!!!!
This is so enjoyable, I have muscle pain in my face because I have not stopped smiling since it started. The friendship between these two guys is very strong and inspirational. Watching them discuss is a real treat.
Gave me shivers and tears seeing these two on stage together again. So happy they're both doing well and enjoying themselves.
To be a proverbial fly on the wall, or maybe a person sitting in the booth next to Alex and Geddy in some pub , is how it felt to listen to them carry-on as if they were the only ones who could hear them talking and laughing was a special way of getting an interview with the two of them that they didn't have to put on a game face to answer questions asked by some Jo
urnalist.
Thanks for seeing the human beings behind the genius of one of the best bands of the last 40 years.
Neil is greatly missed but will never be forgotten and Gsddy and Alex won't ever let that happen.
Loved Rush since I was a kid. Started listening in around 6th grade in 1982. They're just a beautiful family.
Geddy and Alex have a friendship that is pretty damn rare. I am fortunate, approaching 50 years old that I have known my best friend since I was 4!. Total brothers to this day.... and We took on 2 more brothers at around 9 years old and the 4 of us still get together all the time.. It's the only true value in life. We all have lives n jobs n kids n Wives etc but nothin stops us from getting together for a hockey game or a bbq.. and Beers.. ya.. beers for sure!..
I could watch these guys yuck it up for hours and hours. So much love, history, and legend between them. 🙌🏼
Saw them in Saskatoon backing Nazareth. My first concert at 17 and first whiff of cannabis. What a blast. Best Canadians, ever!!! Thank you for all the great music. 🙏🙏🙏
Three beautiful people who made beautiful music, leaving beautiful memories. Love them!
What year was this ?

Thank you Geddy and Alex for reaching out to all of us and making us smile while we cry🇨🇦RUSH
Lovely hang by two nice boys from Fisherville Jr. High. Thank you Ged and Alex! Miss you Neil!
The best drummer in the world enjoyed being a librarian at his daughter's school. How good is that.
Moving Pictures was the second concert I ever went to and still the best live show by far, RIP Neal Peart you will never be forgotten
These guys have brought so much joy into so many people’s lives.
Thank you Geddy for sharing your life both on stage and in private.
Thank you for the music that will live on forever.

My first Rush concert was the "Subdivisions Tour" @ (the now gone) Joe Louis Arena Detroit, MI. Every time they came through Detroit went to see them! Making Memories....I love you guy's! Neil your passing deeply hit me RIP.
I think I saw them 3 times in Detroit. The best!
For some of these individuals who attended this event, and are complaining of not seeing the entire segment posted:
There was also the Q&A part with George Stroumboulopoulos, which was another hour. I think CBC's goal was to just have the part with Geddy and Alex interacting with one another and sharing stories. The history of those two seeing concerts and performing at the Massey Hall venue is probably another factor as well.
Be grateful that this is uploaded to be viewed at all. Thank you.

Thank you🙏🙏🙏
Thanks guys for all the great music through the decades... RIP Neil....

What a beautiful, wonderful experience filled with laughs and tears; it warmed my soul !
Damn but this is just amazing to watch. These guys have been such a huge part of my life, unfortunately I never got the chance to see Rush live. Thank you Geddy and Lerx!
I stole your first album from my sister when I was 13 years old and I've been a huge fan of my entire life I went through some terrible times when I was young but your music saved my life and I mean literally saved my life I was able to escape and for that I thank you and I love you and appreciate everything you've done God bless Neil
