    I have my ring doorbell charging on a remote solar panel which is in the sun the majority of the afternoon. Unless the charging cycle is disrupted & the charge has dropped below 90% it will charge up to 100%. It then won’t charge again until the battery drops below 90%. I haven’t touched the battery in 12 months!

      This is why I bought a mesh WiFi system in addition. The WiFi from the bell didn’t connect to my original router because of the distance & obstacles the signal had to travel. I have one of the mesh WiFi points sitting on the window sill just through the window from the bell. The signal strength from the bell is permanently in the green rather than red scale.

    Tank you for video. I have just purchased the doorbell pro video of the new model released, I already had a perfectly working 16V power supply tested with the tester....but when the battery dropped below 90% I still don't see any increase in charging and two days that It's connected and it hasn't recharged anything, in fact it's reached 86%, I don't understand why.....the power supply works, and almost no one ever rings the doorbell....shouldn't it charge at least a little? I'm not saying 100% but at least go back to 90-95.....

    I installed my solar panel kit to my Ring over a month ago and the lowest my battery has ever been is 96% at about 6:00 in the morning. My house faces east and the roof protrudes out over the porch so my panels only get about 2 hours of direct sunlight each day since I live close to the mountains. From what I've experienced so far I don't think I'll ever have to swap out the battery. Your battery leads may not be making proper contact Kip. Either that or they've upgraded the battery in the last couple of months.

    There’s also a proper solar panel for them Kip… I’ve one on my stick up cam, and one on my battery doorbell plus, both actively charge really quickly, and stay at 100% battery most the year, except in the dead of winter it went down to 40% until the weather got better and they went back up to 100%

    10/15/23 I have the Ring Video 2nd generation, the one that has the built-in battery. I bought it in May 2023
    I bought a solar charger and installed it on the 12th of October. Right now, my Ring Video charger is at 83 percent, so when the charger drops at its lost point, Do I need to take the Ring Video down to charger it? Or solar will continue to do it?

    • @kiphakes
      @kiphakes  ปีที่แล้ว

      Unless you live where you have a large amount of sun, directly on the solar panel during the day, it won't permanently maintain the charge... it's more of a 'top up' to keep it ticking over. If there isn't sufficient sun, you will have to charge it indoors.

    What’s the voltage of the panel, I’m wondering if I can get away with a 6”x6” 12volt panel, I’ve noticed this piggyback is only 3.48 volts, not sure if polarity matters though, DC input seems to define source as solar and ac voltage being classic doorbell power, my question is can I take the risk on 12volts

    Do all Ring solar chargers fit all Ring door bell 2s as the one I ordered seems to have no way of being fixed to the wall mount using the screws. My Ring doorbell has a non removable battery which means of course it has to be removed from its wall mount for recharging.

    I bought a solar charger and I can honestly say I dont recommend them. The two little claw things that attach to the actual ring fell off after only 3 recharges and yes, I said I had to take it down and recharge it anyway! If you dont have a bunch of sun, or its winter with hardly any sun, the thing doesnt charge! So you still have to take it down and bring it in the house to charge!

      I have the new 2024 removable battery, the solar charger claims trickle charging with full charge to start with. It will never run at 100% but hold a consistent charge like this persons states. I find removing the battery & putting the other in kind of a hassle if I am away for a week-ish, piece of mind that I will not have to change that battery. It's new, so I hope it does the job down the road without running out inconveniently.

    Interesting to see how its wall mounted in these stands.
    I have two Ring video door bells (V2) one with a Ring Wall mounted Solar cell and 6.1 metre wire and one with this contraption. My thoughts are even the large solar cell is insufficient with the Video 2 doorbell. Ring have supplied me with a second unit to test and this craddle. Neither is really able to top up the battery. I have 6 other ring cameras *the round wall mounted ones) with their 6 corresponding solar cells. All these have no issues keeping the battery between 98 - 100% full.
    The wall mount unit for the Video doorbell (Gen 2) is the same size as the others - it puts out Voltage and Amps to spec - checked with 2 different multi meters. Have called Ring so many times about this; my end thought is the Ring Video doorbell Gen 2 simply needs a much bigger solar cell - and/or the DC power converter is underperforming. Ring did say if the internet single is weak it will add extra load on the battery - issue is a Ring video door bell and Ring cylinder wall mounted camera are two metres from each other and both have wall mounted solar cells specific to the device. Place up high and facing full sunglight about 6 hours a day. The Round ring security camera battery is always 98% - 100% full and teh video doorbell looses 2-3% power per day - every day.
    So I can only conclude either bad power cuitry (unlikely) or an undersized solar cell for what the device needs to draw!
