Nicely presented video. No fluff - straight to the action with precise and quick explanations of features, how-to and comparison between the 1st and 2nd generation panels.
Needed some kind of idea about this product and found this video..this guy is so easy to listen to, easy to understand and very clear with simple instructions to follow..will now feel confident in buying and fitting the solar panel..thank you
Plastic mounts, winter winds, 'snap' -it broke after a month. However, Ring was really understanding about it when I called and they took care of it. However, I really wish they would make more durable mounts. If only there was a way to make the panels not so easily caught by the wind.
When showing this video you said that the new upgraded Ring Solar Panel has no lines, but when I called Ring to order, Ring sales department said they did not know what I was talking about, because all of the Ring Solar Panel's have lines. So my question then is: Where did you get that Ring Solar Panel without any lines on the face of the solar panel.
So i have a new Annke NVR what are the best cameras in your opinion that you would buy that are non subscription. will the Ring work on the Annke NVR PoE? i found your best wired video im watching that what phone app im having issue with the Annke vision phone app most likely my settings.
0:58 but i have a newer spotlight cam and older solar panel v4 (2.4w) that only has a barrel at the end, so does that mean this old solar panel cant work with newer cameras?
Using these on Stick up cam solar (3rd gen) and the extra 0.4A (old barrel style is 0.4A and new USB-C is 0.8A) seems to be helping in the winter days in keeping charge for cams in high traffic areas.
I really appreciate all your reviews. I check with you before I ever purchase anything. Now I can buy the solar panel for Ring. Can you provide a rough estimate on how often the battery will need changing with the solar panel?
Will be moving into a new house in May 2023 and have been reading your reviews. Great job on your reviews and are very helpful in deciding which security cameras to get. Also, saw in your video that you live in Corpus Christi, which also is the place I will be moving into. Are you Pinoy?
Nice review..It's almost always cloudy here in New York. We probably get 2 or 3 nice days of sunshine a month. Do you think that would work for the solar panel from just daylight? I want to plant one of these on a tree to keep an eye on my driveway and house. And I do have the ring doorbell now.
I just received my ring spotlight camera plus and 4w solar. I didn't even know there was a 5 w solar. Do you think I should return it and get the 5 w? Thanks.
I just got the Spotlight Cam Pro and see that it has one battery. Should I buy a second one or will it be fine with the solar panel(which is held up in USPS thanks to the crap storm that hit SE NC)?
@@LifeHackster Cool, you know about how long one battery will last before I need to recharge it? Like I said not sure when USPS will get it to me with the road damage we’ve all suffered here.
@@N4EJM Non genuine battery's are less than half the price of Ring's and work better in my opinion as they have a slightly higher capacity. I'll have to quote in AUD where I live but a Ring battery is $49.95AUD and I can buy a non genuine off Ebay for about $20AUD. At that price, why not buy a second battery ? No one is guaranteed sufficient sunshine in winter to recharge and your use and setup will dictate how much power you use. For something like a Spotlight Cam Pro (I also have one, as well as 3 x Spotlight Cam Plus), I would definitely be getting a second battery. As an example of using the extra power, you can switch Snapshot Capture on to 3 or 5 minutes. It's great to playback on your timeline and see any changes overnight and it's also interesting watching the sun slowly come up :) You can run the lights on full brightness without any stress about extra power. You can turn on HDR (uses more power), you can use Live View more often (uses more power), you can set your video length to a full 120 seconds if you want (more power) and you can set Motion Frequency on to its highest setting (uses more power). Almost every setting on a Ring device uses extra power if you turn it on.
Question: is there a solar panel/camera combo they allows for 24/7 recording? Even if it's not designed as such, for example a solar panel large enough to drive the Nest cam 24/7?
I don't think there will be a camera than can do that. These solar panels and the cameras built in batteries are not enough to continually run the cameras.
Wouldn’t it be more cost effective and efficient to just plug it in? . I know there’s limitations to access of power for outdoor cams but could be worth trying
What's your opinion regarding this setup ( Floodlight 2 battery powered + solar panel to charge them) VS Hardwire Flood light camera . My question is if is worth adding the electrical box , i will have any benefits , like faster notifications ,recording etc. Thank you !
I have a question. I have the ring spotlight cams and stick up cams. All of my cameras are connected to Ring solar panels. I live in Southern California (LA area). We get sunlight non stop. Why do my ring camera sometimes stop charging, even if the solar panels are in direct sunlight?
@acapulco1231 I am thinking along similar lines and given I have a spare 60000MaH power bank, I am going to run a solar panel (a non Ring, a 20w panel off ebay) in to the power bank and run 2 x Spotlight cams in to the Powerbank using USB-C to USB-A adaptors. Both spotlight cams have 2 x batteries in them, so they will draw power from the Powerbank to recharge them. The powerbank charges at 22.5 watt maximum, so the 20w panel is fine. It will be interesting to see if I can get them to run all year without any input from me, I intend to turn up all the settings so they are recording as much as possible. Just a note, Ring's solar panels are horrendously expensive for what they are. You can get the same off ebay for a quarter of the price and many are selling the same usb/barrel adaptors with the panels.
Even on the winter solstice in the most notherly part of the UK, the sun is above the horizon for over 13 hours. Clouds tend to only obscure some visible frequencies of light, solar voltaic panels use different spectrums of light from the human eye.
@@LifeHackster ok thank you for replying because when i plugged in the solar panel the ring asked me if i wanted to change it to wired but then it kills my battery life.
@@LifeHackster does the camera change to solar automatically or i have to change something in the settings? because my cam plus is not recognizing that it's plug in to a solar panel
Probably not. Now, you are definitely giving them access to your cameras. You can always give access to someone in your family if you think you are not able to monitor all the notifications instead of someone you don't know.
Do you have to adjust the angle of the solar panels throughout the year? Also on cloudy days it seems it will run out of battery unless the battery can last several weeks on a single charge. Being that it's a battery powered cam you should do some testing how well it detects motion and the pre-roll, as well as image quality in day and night, frame rate and resolution compared to wired. In addition, the solar panels will need to be cleaned of dirt and debris. Wired cameras are install and it justs works except in a power outage I guess, but even these cameras will need a router and model with backup battery.
You don't have to adjust it. It just needs 2 hours of sun hitting the panels. On cloudy days, it will most likely not charge and will just use the batteries and will charge it again when the sun comes out. Wired is always going to be better as to features and I have mentioned it in my review video which I linked in the description down below.
Just because it might be cloudy or overcast, doesn’t mean solar panels stop functioning. I put both batteries in my Ring Cam Pro and bought the Super panel. Not an issue whatsoever with charging.
Whats good about Ring is they keep updating their Products except for their Cameras.. Im surprised they didnt call this solar panel " Pro" but Nice product with double the power.. I like to see it go thru a winter on east coast.
Maybe I can use this on my Eufy L20 ….since Eufy doesn’t make a solar charger with a USB-C. However, not sure if the L20 software allows solar charging yet…..need to try and see. Also, great video as always.
What cameras do you have? I have 5 ring cameras and am pretty happy with the quality. My doorbell is the only one with not great quality since it’s an older gen one.
Bullshit, it don't work! I have the Super Solar Panel and it does not charge my new Pro camera. I will have to purchase a NEW solar panel just to make it work. Not cool.
I recently purchased two Ring Spotlight Cam plus on Amazon and two Solar panels (non Ring brand) With the USB-C adapter! Ring and I have tried to trouble shoot why. it does not charge or say the correct charge in the App! They sent me two new cameras and had the same result. How can you connect these to ring doorbell 4 cameras? Does ring make a accessory cable to connect to the 2 screws on the back?

Any way to tell voltage of panel to make sure the angle is ideal?
Not that I know of. Just make sure the sun hits the panels at least 2 hours a day.
Do you need to program the solar panel device? How do you know its communicating with ring spot light cam?
No need. Just plug it in to the camera.
