He was exhausted and if he could just keep silent and still- "Timmy?" called a voice that was once a comfort to hear, "Get up my dude, you're going out today. Are you thirsty?" The words, like a stake to the heart, made Timmy groan and writhe in his cold spot on the concrete. He considered pleading with his dad not to go out again, that he was tired, that someone else could have a turn. He knew better. As he opened his eyes and turned his head to see his dad, standing over him, grinning maniacally, holding that damned briefcase. "Dad, do I have to bring that thing? It so big and clunky, it's always just getting in my way... Can't I bring the gun again this time?" He shuddered, remembering narrowly hiding away from a gang of thugs raiding and pillaging everything they had come by. Timmy was agile, but it was only a matter of time before he would get caught in a bad situation with no way to defend himself. "Nonsense. Timmy, you're going out and you're taking the briefcase. Have some water before you go. You're thirsty." Timmy solemnly gulped down what was nearly the last of the water rations their family had left, having had drank a few litres the night before at the behest of his beloved dad. It tasted vile, tainted by the evil that had consumed the word. He stood at the door of the bunker, tears welling in his eyes. His mother and sister were broken and defeated, barely even acknowledging Timmy's departure. And there was dad, smiling like and waving like a lunatic. Didn't he know the fate to which he had condemned his only son? He took a deep breath and opened the door to the bunker. He knew this could be the last time he saw his family again. He could only hope that the fate of his mother and sister were no worse than his own.
@@RandomUserYTisFailing The briefcase is only to allow scavengers to bring more things with them to scavenge. It doesn't allow them to obtain more items while scavenging.
NL still misuses the scavenge section by not looking at the entire house before the timer starts and almost always grabbing stuff that's closest to the hatch first, rather than starting furthest away and not having to walk that far again.
@@KamikazePhil Briefcase lets you bring extra items out scavenging, and I think it has a chance to have an extra item inside when you enter the bunker. It's real value, in my opinion, is for the beginning so you can bring the gas mask and something else (like the flashlight/map/scout manual). Once you don't need the gas mask because the air has cleared up, it isn't really that useful anymore (as far as I can discern, anyway).
@@KamikazePhil Some items can trigger certain events when you give them to someone in the wasteland, the briefcase allows you to take 3 items, those 3 items have a chance to trigger their respective events, giving you tons of supplies for each event.

I'm legitimately curious how one is supposed to learn what actually helps when so much RNG is involved. In a game like Darkest Dungeon you get it laid out for you. I like this game, and I don't think it's meant to be that min-maxable, but it does mean that it's hard to figure these things out.
NL, the gas mask is supposed to be used early in the game to get extra supplies, so you don't need to be too heavily focused on getting water and food in the scavenging phase.
I will ascend the day NL learns suitcase meta. I've commented on every video, posted on the subreddit, and even tweeted at him. Maybe it's the backlog. Nonetheless, he's still getting new endings so he doesn't necessarily need to change
