The only thing that changes with each evolution (other than card art…and number of needles) is the attack and level. The whole point of the card is that when a monster crashes into this monster when in *defense* mode it is destroyed, and they didn’t think that maybe they should have…oh idk, giving it more defense? 😂
Seriously, I feel like the stat line should be reversed. It would make more sense then.

The logic was most likely the destroyed monster was what was left to block, now the higher attack stat gets in for more damage.... I would probably only use the 4 star version... The others may make for a funny meme, maybe to overlay into something useful after the baited attack? The right new cards could make this effect down right oppressive if you can force things to attack.
This is just a weaker version of " man eater bug" with extra steps .

Anyone else notice that it's defense didn't change much and it's effect is based on being attacked in defense position?
One thousand needle was better defense version of des kangaroo it require def increase or atk decrease to counter the attackers but two and three thousand require switch atk to def or use as beatstick

Reminds me Cactuar's in Final Fantasy. They have an attack named similarly to these cards that do the amount of damage as the number. So 1000 needles is 1000 damage.
Cactuars also appear in Monster Hunter World, you take a swing at one, it'll launch it's thousand needles, if you get a monster positioned just right when you do, it will do 1000 damage to it
