- It’s always a big deal in the Yugioh anime when we get to that final boss of an arc. All season, we see them commanding their minions or getting in a duel where they dominate, and when we finally get to them, they have monsters with unstoppable effects. However, when they get put in the real life card game, they either get nerfed where they’re nowhere near their anime dominance level, or you need like a dozen cards to set up their busted effects. Or maybe they’re completely unchanged, but the powercreep of the game is too much for them. Regardless, we want to look at their “final boss’ archetypes that didn’t quite cut the mustard when they made it into the card game. Perhaps they’re pretty good when you get everything set up, but they don’t match the meta enough to be as overwhelming as they were in the anime. Whoops, you're right! Rex was the "Final Boss" of the arc, but Roman was the leader of the Dark Signers. I should've just said Rex was the final battle or the double agent or something like that.
Regardless of anime or manga, Rex felt tailored to be Final Boss whereas poor Roman had to play second fiddle.
@@thatman666 Yeah like you could tell something was up with Rex throughout the entire season, even when he was revealed to be gathering the signers to fight the dark signers, you could still tell that that wasn't the full truth. Plus he's wearing a falcon on his chest the whole time.

I love the Earthbound Immortals for their connection with the Nazca lines. Also, the new Earthbound support is actually pretty good, and makes the Immortals so much easier to summon. Oh, how much fun it is to resolve the effect of Aslla Piscu.
Its funny that Arcana Force is REALLY GOOD in speed duel... due to Destructive Fate skill card :D Its having the same problem as Cloudians that it has skill that fixes the archetype but its unplayable outside of speed duel in any comp setting.

Because Blaze Accelerator is named "Blaze Cannon" in Japanese. They fucked up naming conventions again without an actual excuse.

I don't know if anybody mentioned this, but VERY recently, Konami released a Earl Of Demise retrain and its a pretty good Fusion monster for a Zombie and or Fiend deck, which is appropriate since Bakura played a Zombie Fiend theme deck
It isn't a retrain (or at least not one original to the real-life game). Bakura played Duke of Demise against Kaiba in the anime early into the Dawn of the Duel arc.
Hoping this means we get more Dawn of the Duel inspired cards (even though they weren't REALLY cards) like the evolved states of Diabound and Zorc.

I think it's really funny that Earthbound Immortal Cusillu has an effect that only can be used if it would be destroyed by battle...
...when it can't be attacked...

In the anime the wffect was used when the immortal attacked a monster and luna had a battle trick to destroy it, but he coincidentally had a monster as fodder for its effect. It's the most convolutedly convenient and useless niche anime effect and i love it.
@@valonyaver600 Yeah, I've watched it before. My point by mentioning the attack directly effect is that you would never attack into a monster, so it'll only ever come up if it attacking is redirected.
I'm convinced Arcana Force was only made so they could get Satorius' Japanese Voice Actor, who was the voice of Dio, to say Za Warudo over and over again.
I'm fairly certain the GX anime predates the Za Warudo meme.

Meaning most of their backrow line up is still unsearchable.

I think it's crazy that they just never made toon extra deck monsters. They have all the back row support they need, they just need more consistency and firepower and they could be a rogue deck lol
It'd be cool if there were some Toon Extra Deck monsters that you could bring out based on what your opponent had on the field similar to how in the anime the monsters were literally Toon versions of Yugi/Kaiba monsters like Blue-Eyes or Summoned Skull. I see it working kinda like a cross between Super Poly and Mask Change.
Been saying for a long time that fusions and maybe synchros should be on the table. Fusions are obvious (Toon Dragoon, Toon Cyber Dragon fusions, Toon Blue-Eyes Ultimate, etc) Synchros are both because I ran Stardust Dragon in my toon deck for a long time and also because, well… Tooner.
I'm pretty sure that even in the anime, Judai calls out Saiou on how his Light Barrier is a crutch because he knows he'd never be able to get the good effects on his monsters consistently. Which reminds me that GX also called out Abidos in a previous season for running Spirit of the Pharaoh unironically and his deck being *so bad* that not only did Judai not even feel the need to fusion summon against him, he beat him by using HERO Flash. Damn, son.
I'm pretty sure the moment Saiou tried using one of his monsters without Light Barrier up it went wrong even, if I recall correctly.

the sacred beast cards are actually very good with the new yubel cards,you can easily make a hybrid deck with both of their support cards.

Master Duel's solo mode has a fairly creative Timelord strategy. Using them as support in a Lightsworn deck. Since Lightsworn's gimmick is sending your cards from deck to graveyard, you can definitely pull off Sephylon's summoning gimmick a bit easier. But yeah, doesn't really make sense to have a summoning requirement that kind of contradicts what the archetype does.
Wish more justice is done for Bakura. His "Occult" deck in the anime was easily my favorite. Love to see a proper Zorc archetype that tries to turn the duel into a TTRPG just for how stupid it'd be. I can't see them being comfy giving more support to an instant win mechanic like Destiny Board unless they go the Exodia route and make the instant win part a very happenstance side thing and turn it into just a big fuckoff unit on the board.
edit: favorite boss monster is Zarc. It's just the ultimate, impractical culmination of all of Yu-Gi-Oh's mechanics up to that point.

I was going to do a pause in the video to mention it, but since Duke of Demise is an anime card that was never printed, being a fusion of Earl and Headless Knight, we still technically have a excuse for a direct retrain for Earl, so the dream is alive! Still, I wish they announced it after the video was released so I could have another retrain/followup monster that I accidentally predicted.
Duke of Demise is as much a retrain of Earl of Demise as Great Mammoth of Goldfine is a retrain of Mammoth Graveyard.
Yusei facing Kiryu was a really intense duel. Imagine seeing your friend that died in prison dueling you on a motorcycle 😂
Love all the Dark signer duels, but those ones were cool! A lot of people say Yusei never lost in 5Ds, but I still stand by saying Yusei lost their first duel. Kiryu clearly had the win and duel was postponed at the last second. If they picked it up at that point during the rematch, Yusei was cooked.

Ugh both Gadgets and Geargias come to mind
I disagree with anti archetypes.
It is possible to maske them somewhat decent while also being hyper fixated on killing a certain kind of opponent.
Best example is Buster Blader who can use Buster Dragon to turn every monster into a dragon.
The problem with Meklords or Ally of justice for that matter is that they try to be an "anti" archetype, but are at most a nuisance to those kind of decks.
Like all Absorb effects of Meklords are spell speed 1 and so if its your opponents turn, your so called anti machine monsters can just watch helplessly as clear mind plays in the background.
The Monster that has absorbtion in its name, can't even absorb a monster, has a weaker version of a generic synchro monsters effect and is the only card with a notable negation effect in the entire archetype next to Wisel
Speaking of Wisel, why is he the only special child in the Emperor family who throws a tamper tantrum and doesnt let anyone else attack?
So what is the key difference between Meklord and Buster Blader and how could Meklord be improved?
Buster Blader is a lot faster, its key monsters are easier to bring out AND even if your opponent doesnt fullfill the dragon criteria, Buster Blader has ways to either use other kinds of floodgates or Synchro into Buster Blader to create that Criteria
Meklord not only lacks a way to create their own criteria, but also just have lackluster Anti Effects in general. Even if you got the entire Archetype together on a field against a sychnro deck, A Dragon Deck would have much less chances for a comback against a Single Buster Blader fusion.
If I could do something about Meklords, I would just allow them to use their owners Extra Deck for Synchro Equipments. Maybe let them use the effects of their equipped monsters like how Synchro Absorbtion Wisel is using a worse version of Stardust Dragon for example
I think Dogmatika is an anti Archetype that is what Mecklords are, but better

34:00 Wish granted! Duke of Demise was revealed to be an upcoming card not that long ago! Technically it was a fusion involving Earl of Demise in the anime but, I mean come on, I think it also counts as a retrain more or less.
Since it was technically a new card that was in the anime, I didn't consider it to be a retrain, but it also has an effect the wasn't in the anime, so it could be a retrain depending how you look at it.

I still have no idea why they gave Ra the monster destruction effect (from his phoenix form), and not the absolute basic effect of gaining the attack of the tributed monsters. The god cards were supposed to reflect a specific play style: beatdown (Obelisk), control (Slifer) and OTK (Ra). Ra is only on the field for a turn at a time because he only needed to be on the field for a turn. You'd gain the attack of all the tributed creatures and then put all your life into him to get his attack to skyrocket.
Bring back Judgment Meter. i'm disappointed she wasnt here for this vid.
Actually the first four numbers actually have fake counter parts that are insects except for number 4 stealth Kragen that is an aqua monster type and is super annoying in a shark/Nash deck

Really gotta appreciate how the sacred beast support all a fiends with 0/0 stats. Just like Yubel, who later used the sacred beasts. It’s to the point the sacred beast support is used in yubel decks irl. Which is really cool.
Considering the time gap between the sacred beast and yubel support, it’s hard to think Konami designed these cards with that forward compatibility in mind. But I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt since the sacred beast cards worked with existing yubel cards on release.
I kind of love that I can't tell if it's a bit or not that you didn't bring up the other card Arcana Force got.
If you don't know, it's a searcher that needs a coin flip and if you get tails the opponent can search any card from their deck and add it to hand
thankfully it's just a search for you if you have light barrier out, but it's funny as hell regardless.

I would just like to make one tiny remark, you say the dark signers had "unrelated dark synchro" but um........I'd say Hundred Eyed Dragon fit infernity pretty well
I can still remember back to when Xyz was getting up and running and Synchro was winding down.
I had actually theorized that, in order to defeat Z-One and end the 5D's anime, rather than use a Synchro, Yusei would just literally pull an Xyz out of nowhere to defeat him.

i have a terrible idea for destiny board decks. "ordeal of the traveler" flip a coin, if you lose the flip your monster goes back to the hand. thematically, it works.
Tron/Venjix was the epitome of the trope "Disc One Final Boss." He seems to be the Big Bad of Season 1, with his sons taking Yuma to his limit and then crushing Yuma's friends in the final rounds of the tournament, but the second he's beaten the REAL Big Bad, Dr. Faker, shows up and starts his master plan. And Faker himself was a Disk One Final Boss because Yuma, Kite, and Shark convinced him to surrender mid match to save his son, but his body got possessed by the TRUE Big Bads of the series, the Barians (specifically Vector, the Big Bad of Season 2)
Arcana Force card idea: Special Summon two AF cards from your hand or deck to your opponent’s field, select its effect, and it cannot be used as a material for anything other than a tribute or fusion summon.
Summon two Chariots to the field as free units to go into your bigger summons.
If you head canon that the end of 5ds results in the creation of the XYZ, the mechlords come from a future where fusion and synchro are the only Xtra deck types. Perpetually stuck in Edison
I just realized 5Ds is full of bad bosses which hurt at least time lords are funny and fun to play but earthbound is random and bad while meh lords were obvious fail the new monsters needed to be anti extra deck to give it some hope.
You know for Tron that is funny but his other boss monster "Heraldic beast Genome heriter" has the same effect that Heraldry Crest but better since he Genome heriter also copy the attack and effect and put the other monster at 0 which is the same as Crest but stronger and he is easier to summon

I used to use Sephylon in a Kuriboh deck. I'd ditch him into the GY, usually with Nitwit Outwit which reduced an opponent's monsters ATK by the ATK of the discard card, then use Berserker Crush to raise Kuriboh's ATK by 4000.
The Earth Bound Immortals were definitely my favorite but I'm also biased as that's my favorite yugioh arc of all time

You actually forgot the most important Arcana Force card. Arcana Reading- which was released in 2020. Want to know what it does?

I completely forgot about that one. Adds to the weirdness of how they released a random Arcana Force card with no other support as pack filler years after its initial release (with it still being at the power level of 2008's cards), and then proceeded to do nothing with it.

Alright, hear me out.
I love bakura, I love his deck, and honestly I feel the way to make it less awful is to not think destiny board is a win condition but a draw engine, you start the process if it does not hinder your plays and when it gets destroyed you just use dark spirit mastery to draw from shufflinh them back from anywhere. Also I guess it was recorded before it was shown but we did get an earl ofdemise retrain as fusion and it doesn't really helps this deck out because you don't really normal summon and your field will usually be full of lvl8 fiends none of whcih you want to get rid of for a random low stat fusion monster that gives you a second normal summon
Imagine how awkward it would be if Yusei played Skill Drain on his 2nd turn during his duel with Zone
Yusei even played Effect Veiler in an earlier duel, so he could've stalled with that, too. Only being able to be used during the main phase makes it less sneaky, but it would've revealed the flaw regardless.

I love that in the anime,the boss monster cards were so busted. That it took nothing short of a miracle plus plot armor to defeat them. But in the actual card game,these OP cards can be taken down with a mere handtrap or spell/trap that doesn't target one card specifically. But does a boardwipe instead
Because the anime values the battle phase and targeted destruction effect over all else, you could easily make a boss monster scary in the show by giving it a big attack, battle protection and sometimes immunity to targeted destruction. However, non-targeting and non-destruction removal was super rare in the anime where as in real life it is way more accessible making most of those boss monsters moot.
Unpopular opinion: Arc-V's use of Earthbounds was a complete waste of screentime and story potential. Meklords would have made more sense in every way: Sergey fused with his Duel Runner, Sergey was primarily an anti-Synchro/anti-Jack weapon, the Arc-V Earthbounds have virtually no synergy with or relation to the originals, Roget is closer in form and function to the Three Pure Nobles than Rex, etc. Meklords, on the other hand,
The cards being neat or playable doesn't do a damn thing in their favour. They were no more appropriate for their situation than was Aster in his role, and the execution was only marginally better than with him.
I actually won second place in a tourney with arcana force lmao. The trick was to run Athena so you could swap out the Arcana force monster if you got a bad effect and still burn your opponent for 600 damage

It's like getting a boss character unlocked in a video game.
Absolutely devastating when used against you in the story, a plushie baby toy when you unlock them.
It's mentioned that the Dark Signers have an achetype, an unrelated Synchro and then an Earthbound feeling like boss phases, which is true, but that's also just kinda 5DS in general. The Signers have an archetype, barely in Luna's case, and a dragon that's just kinda there, unless you're trying to tell me the original Junk cards synergise with the unconditional omni-negate that is Stardust other than being able to summon it. Jack is the only one who feels like his deck is built around his dragon. Leo is arguably also the case with Power Tool but Lifestream is the Signer Dragon and it's effect based around equips feels really tacked on. So it's not really a Dark Signer problem as it is a 5DS problem as a whole.
Man I remember a time _(back when GX was still airing)_ when I once thought the Sacred Beasts were cool simply for being the closest thing to playable versions of the Egyptian God Cards. Was even happy that I managed to get all three from Booster Packs.....but then I actually got my hands on playable Egyptian Gods and that was the end of the Sacred Beasts being cool. CONTINUOUS SPELLS/TRAPS TO SUMMON?! REALLY?! Thanks Konami >:/
What a hot take to say the stuff after the dark signer arc is better. Personally, I believe the first 64 episodes of 5D's encapsulates the entirety of the Dark Signer arc, since it introduces signers then. I can understand at least the idea of liking the fortune cup more, but God Damn. The stuff after Dark signers is so bad for so long. It has borderline filler duels with only few duels that are good, like Jack vs. his clone. It doesn't pick up again until the Crash Town Arc and even several of the WRGP duels like team unicorn aren't even that good. I'll admit the Neo Ark Cradle arc has amazing Duels, the Aporia vs Leo, Luna, Jack being a stand out one. However, IMHO the Dark Signer's Arc is one of the best Arc's in all of anime, let it alone the Yu-Gi-Oh animes.
Malefic is a great answer for this "question", in the anime (movie) it took 3 protagonists at the height of their power to beat Paradox, in real life it's basically an archetype of Big Beatsticks that run and hide if there is no fieldspell in play...
The later support the Archetype is nice and I love how they can more or less make 1 Material Final Sigma, but that is like the 2/3 good cards of the Archetype doing anything, the rest is just, why?
Now here is the thing, Konami, more Malefic support means you can give us a 2nd Bonds Beyond Time movie... Think about the movie with Yuma, Yuya and Playmaker vs Bigger Better Paradox.
The movie could be so good.
And for cards we could get Malefic Utopic Dragon, Malefic Starving Venom, Malefic Odd-Eyes, Malefic Firewalldragon (So far Malefics are either Engines or Dragons, so I stuck with Dragons here)(Yes Firewall is not a Dragon, neither is Cyberdragon, but they are spiritually dragons)

Pegasus is probably my favorite antagonist of the first 2 anime’s but god damn do toons suck outside of their main searcher and comic hand or whatever it’s called

As for the gods… obelisk has seen competitive play a few times but I can’t say much more than that. Slifer is my favorite but no baseline protection..
Earthbounds are my favorite archetype here but like toons- they suck.
Arcana force flavor wise are great but they are gamble cards and therefore bad… outside of cheese with the world loops
Something I can never get over when I rewatch this is how at 3:36 it sounds like sam is like, explaining how flying works like how I would to my girlfriend
I kinda liked the idea of the arcana force arc type. I’m kinda excited to see them get more support.
what I’d like are retrains of the original set to improve their abilities. Maybe even a couple link/fusion cards, that boosts the effects of the arcana or even or prevents them or itself from card/monster effects. Maybe even let you test your fate by flipping a coin, either letting you use all your arcana effects multiple (2 times) times. Or giving you the ability to either remove/negate card or monster effects
To help mech lords is give it a field spell or countless spell that says all extra deck monsters summon on your opponents field is treated as synchro summon and if the opponent actually synchro summons destroy a card on their field
Egyptian God Slime is ment to be for Ra, but considering its type, generic materials and effect, it could very much be a generic boss for any Aqua deck able to make lv10s or fuse

I really wish they'd just do a full retrain of Arcana Force as an archetype, like Arcana Force Reversed or something. The concept of Tarot based trading cards who can be either upright or inverted is really fun and thematic, and the cosmic horror inspired designs have always been awesome.
Also please give heraldic beasts (and by extension, chronomaly and whatever the hell V/quinton plays) support. We got Gimmick Puppet support this year so fingers crossed?
I hate raviel requiring monsters and hamon requires spells.. Uria is red and requires traps just switch the other 2 so it matches the color of card type hamon requiring monsters because yellow and raviel requiring spells because it's blue
Honestly, keep them as they are. Just add the effect of handing them over to your opponent if you get the negative effect and prevent them from being tribute or targeted by effects. Thats a quick and easy fix.
I love how one of the more insane aspects of Sacred beasts just gets glossed over, you dont want a slugging match with a sacred beast deck, cause Fallen Paradise lets them Pot of Greed every turn as long as a Sacred beast is on the field, which I used in my own fun deck to basically set up a Hamon Lock, Fallen Paradise and Field Barrier to just draw into exodia and stall out the game
It didnt work as often as i´d have liked but it was still funny as hell whenever it happend
i have a winged dragon of ra deck ( pre rage ) with kuriboh and specialized in defense ;
the kuriboh , plus all the cards that give life points ( trap , magic etc ) are very good , expecially the ones that blocks attacks ..
you need at least more of 8000 lp for a full combo , but with the right card selection in deck is easy
Personally I'd love to see toon monsters of all the ace monsters so like a toon wingman, toon stardust, toon utopia, and toon odd eyes. One other issue is there aren't a lot of lvl 4 or lower toons so they could also do like iconic level 4 or lower monsters like a toon kuriboh, some toon heroes, and so on.
I'd also love to see more arcana force cards. I also feel like Yu-Gi-Oh doesn't do gamble centric archetypes now and I also like that the cards are based off tarot cards and I know that Yu-Gi-Oh already has the prophecy/spell cards that fit that role, but there's nothing that says there should only be one archetype that takes on that idea.

That's not why 4-Kids cut the final season. The real reason is MUCH worse.
See, 4Kids were selling merchandise they didn't actually own the royalties to and Studio Gallop (Who own the Yugioh anime in Japan) immediately moved to have 4Kids license revoked, and have Zexal produced by a different company with Johnny Young Bosch as the voice of the lead character.
Now, at the time, 4Kids were halfway through 5Ds third season.
They immediately cancelled 5Ds, gave a hasty and unsatisfying wrap-up on a random episode and started work on a dub of Zexal, rushing it out the door so that when Bang! Zoom (The new company Studio Gallop hired to dub Zexal with Johnny Young Bosch as their lead) started marketing Zexal, 4kids could go:
"Uh-uh! We're the ones making a Zexal dub! So you're breaking OUR copyright!"
Studio Gallop took them to court over this and the American judge sided with 4Kids due to a technicality, Permanently giving 4Kids sole and irreversible rights over the english dub.
Z-arc must not be terrible let’s go although I would like to see it’s anime eff in a support card seeing as how the meta looking right now especially since you’d probably never get to use the support card seeing as some decks won’t let you have a turn at all other are hellbent on using your monster weather you like it or not or y’know they just ftk I mean it wouldn’t harm the game in any way unlike some cards to give z-arc it’s anime eff but then again konami hates pends the fan base hates pends only few of us like it sad world pendulums never did anything wrong
As a Winged Dragon of Ra player, I know from experience that using only Ra cards is god awful. You need to back it up with some support/hand traps
Just wondering what the deal was with the sacred beasts why exactly are they based on the Egyptian gods the slither looking one was a dead give away that the 3 were based off of em so what gives whouldnt you think that the original god cards whould punish playing such obvious unworthy imitations like it usually does especially to odion that one time

Sacred beasts arent remotely bad, uria and hamon were decent decks in gx and the support makes them at least a good deck, they are far from being bad or at least as bad as stuff like toons, egyptian gods or nordic gods

Earthbound Immortal retrain idea:
Field Spells that turn into big monsters with a sacrifice of some kind. And their field effect remains if the immortal is summoned.
Numeron, for as gimmicky as it is, shouldnt be on this list, it actually has some decent tournament results here and there, and was a menace in the early days of master duel. Its at least a better archetype than any of the others showcased in this video by quite a wide margin
