A past friend of mine was so blinded to how terrible her boyfriend was she let it go so far to her parents disowning her because he was so horrible and she lost all her friends too. She FINALLY snapped out of it and called off the engagement (which he proposed to her 3 days after they had gotten together after a while of taking a break which is like 25 red flags) after he got her pregnant because he told her that if she kept the baby (which she wanted to) then he wouldn't ever help her take care of them. So better late than never I guess? But I don't know how she managed to get that far. I could see myself getting stuck in something not ideal for a variety of reasons but her case was so bad I have no idea how it took her so long to realize it

She stopped being friends with me a while back because he didn't like her being friends with other guys even though I'm gay and honestly never had really gotten that close with her anyway so all that happened after that is what I had been told by people who she stayed friends with. Baby has been born or is due any day now and she's dropped out from school and is back with her family. I'm sure she's got some emotional scars from it all but at least she's out of there seemingly for good

Recently the father decided he did want to be involved with the baby (supposedly after his mom complained to him about not being able to really get to be a grandma) but the mother, who is the only one who has custody right now because of the whole fit he threw before the birth, is fighting to keep him out of getting custody

I lost a friend once because I didn't get along with her new boyfriend, who had the personality of extra rough sandpaper, so she wrote me off as "jealous" and stopped talking to me. 😔 They got married 6 months later.
I was in an abusive relationship when I was younger and he isolated me pretty harshly. I wasn’t really allowed to see or talk to my friends as often. And when my friends would react negatively when I did see them because I hadn’t seen them in a long time, he confirmed that it was just another “sign” for why I shouldn’t be friends with them or how he was the only one who could put up with me. It took me a long time to snap out of it, mostly because I had no one I could speak to about it without judgement. What finally helped me was someone who could talk to me about it and instead of getting mad at me for staying, just helped me observe and come to my own realizations. And when I explained this to my friends, we had a good conversation on healthier ways to deal with this kind of situation if it happens again in the future(for example, talking it out instead of feeling shame around it).
the second point is so true tho, like I do have a friend, who's head over heels with her boyfriend and no matter, how much he fucks her over or how much we talk about him being the worst person ever, everytime he returns in her life, she's saying "yeah, but he's changed now" (or "yeah, but he's been through a lot") girl, where? so yeah, inseftloveitis is truly a deadly disease, that needs to be treated

If I saw a date being racist to someone else that would also be an immediate red flag, but as I myself have not experienced racism I didn't include it. The Red flags were specifically things I have experienced directed at my own person in the past. That being said I have been called every slur in the book, including the N word multiple times, which is confusing because I am white, and at least one of those times was from a poc. My younger brother recently got a girlfriend and, while she's very nice, she might as well have become his wife because now my family is having to take her to every family outing, from eating out as a family to vacation outside the country. All the while, HER family might as well not exist to extend their hand to their "son in law". The kicker is her and my brother being downright siamese siblings, so when he goes back to college for the week, he takes her to stay over at his college apartment. Not only do his 3 male roommates now have to deal with a girl rooming with them, it's literally FORBIDDEN by the landlord to have non-tenants stay over, which might lead to my brother being kicked out of the house if he's found out, because he can't see anything but hearts in front of his eyes.

The "suddenly having your friend's S.O. shoved into your life and they see nothing wrong with it" hits particularly close to home. My younger brother recently got a girlfriend and, while she's very nice, she might as well have become his wife because now my family is having to take her to every family outing, from eating out as a family to vacation outside the country. All the while, HER family might as well not exist to extend their hand to their "son in law".
The kicker is her and my brother being downright siamese siblings, so when he goes back to college for the week, he takes her to stay over at his college apartment. Not only do his 3 male roommates now have to deal with a girl rooming with them, it's literally FORBIDDEN by the landlord to have non-tenants stay over, which might lead to my brother being kicked out of the house if he's found out, because he can't see anything but hearts in front of his eyes.
"I should be over at his apartment sitting on the floor on my phone while he plays call of duty for the next five hours." Brilliant.

the abandoning ur friends is so real..... and often a red flag if its bc ur partner is like, intentionally isolating you, but even if theres no maliciousness its not healthy to be completely dependent on one person for all ur emotional needs or to be so obsessed with them you forget everyone else. Besides the fact that its just plain rude to your friends.

I mean I've been with my so for a while so I made my lovely friends quite a few years after we were boyfriend and girlfriend (I know that sounds lame) but my friends are like...I'm a socially awkward person and I have real trouble connecting with people. These people are my absolute family. I couldn't imagine abandoning them for some D. They are precious gems that need to be protected at all costs. I call them my heterosexual life partners.
