Thanks Mark, I am sat here now at almost midnight sorting my fishing gear for 2 mos. Have to be up at 4.30 for a very long drive. Justin and my self are heading to a very well known lake in North Wales. First time there for me and first time on the boat. I have a few surprises for Justin, which I hope you will see in the video when it comes out. So being in the boat, should have very little chance of hitting the trees. Watch out Justin. Thanks for the comment Mark. Take care mate. Shaun.
The fish get better in the next one mate. What I don't understand is why nobody climbs the trees. I was up that tree for maybe half an hour, but I had a load of flies. Cleaning up took about another twenty mins. Glad you enjoyed the video. Take care Stevie mate. Shaun.
Shaun, I don't think I know anyone who shares as many tips and tricks as you do. It sure has to help a lot of fisherman. Some nice trout in that little pond. You can definitely renew your confidence when you move and still keep catching. Great video
I am old and have a lot to tell. Plus we are still picking things up as we go. They are little ponds really. Little and stuffed with fish. Makes us look good at catching. This is one of the bigger waters around here. We have loads of small waters here in UK, and a good few with twice the amount of fish in them. A lot of these waters are stocked every week and some if popular twice. The stock fish will eat anything. All you have to do is get the preferred depth and speed. But we like to make a meal of it. So we complicate the shit out of the whole thing. Then try and explain it on TH-cam. Thanks for the comment Sean. Will catch up with you soon on your next video. Shaun.
Honestly it was a cold week. But the last day which was a Saturday, I could not fish till midday. My hands just would not work. I did try. Casting was really difficult, as I could not hold the line. I even at one point had a fish on. The fish swam around as it fancied. I could not hold on tight enough to get the fish in. Yes damn cold. A great week mind. Its unreal as we would normally be there in April. The water was fishing its tits off in April. Mind we did manage a lot of fish and a few crackers which is in the next video.
Hope your getting better mate. Will take you to this water one day. I pick up tippet all the time mate. OK this was what came from the tree. But I do see it on the waters edge all the time. These people do my head in. They will kill our sport. Catch up soon. Look after your self mate. Shaun.
Thanks Craig, I did take a bit of time with this one. Mind more down to being busy with work and stuff. Got to start one the next one now. Thanks again mate. Take care. Shaun.
Nice one, bud! Informative as always. Jamie certainly keeps that place stocked with quality specimens. What about a video from Clewedog, mate? Take care and keep them coming. Rhys might as well give up! Cheers, Max
Funny you say that, Clewedog is on the list, and it may not be that long. Yes Jamie is a great bloke, and a lot of work to keep that water as it is. I am a bit behind with Hayscastle at the moment. So much work on the tools has prevented me doing the water. Oh Rhys will be back on it soon. He is bogged down with International duties at mo. Catch up soon mate. Shaun.
That's a good idea, we could meet up. Either of your two days will be fine for me. Busy at mo for another 3 weeks at least. After that I can sort. Take care Mike, catch up soon. Shaun.
As always Shaun, a great video! Fishing etiquette is really important to me, but occasionally there’s always an angler who thinks they own a particular spot and hog it all day, or decide to stand right by you when the entire rest of the bank is free. Drives me mad! So good to see this site has signs up reminding people to move on. You’re spot on about mixing techniques and moving around. I see so many stand in one place, keep changing files but not techniques, and wonder why they’re not catching? There is of course a band of anglers whom basically always use the bung and nothing else. They catch more than others and much quicker at taking their bag limits, but surely they get bored using the same technique over and over again??? I would! Anyway keep your style of videos coming, much more interesting than many others out there! Oh keep hugging them trees! 😂 Cheers! Jonathan
Great comment Jonathan. There is always people who hog, even on this water. On our water this would not happen. As for the signs, yes they are there, but are they reading. In all fairness its not to bad there. As I said in the video moving around is what Justin will do. And I am catching on quick. Yes once you find the fish, spend a bit of time there. I change flies less and spend more time checking out different retrieves and depths. For years I always see the fishery manager before leaving and ask what patterns worked on the day. Often lots. Its more about how there fished and where. As I said in the video, a pattern will work wonders here but not there. The bung does my head in. I have tried it and found that I was so bored. I had to keep my eye on it all the time. I think its a very unsociable method. I like to talk to people and make eye contact, or look across the lake, or even watch the birds for a while. These people must be knackered when they are done. But I am looking forward to a challenge with the bung method. And me straight line. I have done this before, but not on camera. The one thing I love about fishing and I think its the main thing. You have contact with your fly by a very steady slow figure of eight. Feeling the slight weight on the line. Then all of a sudden. The fish hits. Shit that's it. I love it. The bung you miss it all. So whats the point other than numbers. Very sad. Yes I love the trees. Trees love bungs from what I seen. Thanks for the comment Jonathan, You have made my evening. Thanks mate. Shaun.
Hi Shaun Another fantastic video Shaun, absolutely loved this one. Plenty of fish caught, lots of flies used, and your black creation with the blue underneath worked a treat. I had a couple on that fly two weeks ago and lost a few, not striking at the correct time, so missed them. Are you producing trout flies now Shaun? If so, I would like to purchase a dozen of the black and blue flies from you. Please let me know buddy. Keep the videos coming, they are what we look forward to. Cheers Shaun. Bob.👍👍👍🎣🎣🎣
Hi Bob, I have not got anything sorted on the flies yet. Its doing my head in. Did wonder how the pattern was getting on. As you can see from this video it did really well. There was only one person who fail to get fish with it. But he did say he will have to learn to fish it. Which is true. Mind I ain't using it much now. Its more an early spring pattern for me. Oh and stock fish. So your mad for the huge white and blue snake thing. It resembles more of our bass flies. But it goes to show what fish will take on the day.
Simply the best trip in the world. Everyone needs to try a few nights or a week away with nothing but good company beer and some of the best fishing 🎣 iv had. And no phones during the day. Really had a great laugh with lots of fishing and met some new people. Garnffrwd is a top quality fishery a lodge to match . Cant wait to do it again.
Great stuff Shaun, your Yellerdine is quite like a Dawson olive, and I fish a very similar pattern to your black fly. It seems to work best for me on the point of a 15 ft leader on a floating line, and takes typically come just after you stop moving it....
I will have to check the Dawson olive out. But the Ellerdine is something else. Gets me a fish 85% of the time. I don't fish it much, but when things are tricky I will give it a go. The black fly has been set up for the Intermediate. Its the way I have weighted it. Steve has done very well on the floater with it. But we are still learning about the fly. Mind have not fished it for the last three weeks or more, apart from the odd cast. Its more for spring and autumn, oh and the stock fish. Thanks for the comment mate. Take care. Shaun.
On the last Saturday of the trip it was so cold my hands would not work until midday. Age related. Had we have been able to book in April it would have been so different. And the fishing during this period has been amazing, so they say. But at the same time a challenge is more pleasing, and we did manage quite a few fish, plus a few really good ones which will be in next video. Thanks for the comment mate. Take care. Shaun.
Its always a great trip and garn does have a lot to offer. The line was a recommend by Justin. Its the Rio Aqua two. I have several intermediate lines, but this is my go to line every time now. Casting with very little back cast is a treat. But I think I am getting more feel from the line when fishing. And for a Rio its not a bad price. Worth a look. Thanks for the comment. Take care. Shaun.
Excellent video Shaun…excellent.
Great tutorial, and tree climbing skills.
