    Glad I watched this last night, went to local fishery today and nothing on lures so remembered you were using an egg fly in the second part, stuck one on under the bung and had 8 in 90mins. Top bloke👍🏻👍🏻

      Brilliant! I fish a lot of lakes wherelures are the go for most regulars .doing something very different like fishing an egg static can be devastating ,especially in clear water .

I do travel around through the season , I spent a week in Ireland last year with the England youth team on Lough Lene . It can be difficult mixing work and making the vids but I am definitely going to make the time this year to vary the venues as much as I can . Thanks again and happy new year !

    Very encouraging video Tim. I'll definitely be trying BFD/Cormorant combo and the bung/egg method next week. One question Tim .. at the start of your video you said the fish were in the top two feet of water. How did you know this? Because of the recent cold weather, I've assumed the fish were down deep on the lakes I fish. I think I've been making the wrong assumption as my success rate has been low - as usual :)

    • @malcolmism6
      @malcolmism6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I to think the same.cold weather sends them deep. Alo rain running up to when you fish puts them downs. So can you explain Tim why there up in the surface layers please

    • @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
      @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Rob . I think you hit the nail on the head when you said you had assumed the fish were deep . Fish dont read the text books ! When I approach a new water I will start fishing high gradually working my way deeper until I get a response . This is easiest done with a floating line and a weighted point fly . The floating line gives you maximum control and by using counting the flies down each cast you can effectively search the water column . When you find the fish you can then make a decision on what line would be best . Trout are remember cold water fish , they love the chilled water unlike cyprinids . When we fished together at Walthamstow I targeted the trout on the bottom not because the cold had sent them there but because they were feeding hard on blood worm in the silt ! When there is little food in the lake as re Chigboro at the moment the fish will usually cruise about just in the top half of the water and will always move up to hit a fly . I think the best way to approach your fishing is not to have any pre conceived ideas and assess each lake as you arrive on the bank . We should have a day on your lake soon !

    • @totallycrit696
      @totallycrit696 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769 if a floating line has more control, why did you start on an intermediate fly line instead? Would this have made a difference to the angle of the retrieve when you did the slow roly-poly?

    • @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
      @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@totallycrit696 The lakes had been busy that week as you can imagine . Talking to anglers that morning they were all saying that the fish were coming short , just nipping the flies so I assumed they had seen a lot . I made two changes , one was to scale down both flies to 12s as I guessed most locals were using big stuff , the second was to use an intermediate line that wouldn't leave such a conspicuous wake on the surface as I retrieved the flies . So in this case the line choice wasn't about depth it was more about presentation .

    What spacing did you use in the second lake when you adopted the bung? What was the white fly....was it an egg with a bead?

    • @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769
      @timjoyceflyfishing-essex6769  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes a size 12 white egg . I had about 3ft between the indicator and fly , that is the usual taking depth in Winter on that water . It will vary greatly between venues .
