    There is nothing inherently wrong in most of these rules, the wrong ones are pretty obvious for everybody.
    The real problem to me is that, with the things they go through when training, I think they develop a "hate" for music and a "hunger" for money and power and that hurts their career and the products they make (in terms of music).
    If they trained them with love and love for music, Kpop we know today would be so different.

    Kpop industry is difficult. If you are someone who can't persevere training yourself to be flawless, you might think every company rule is too much. But these tough trainings and all, it is also made to make sure that you won't screw up. Knetz are very sensitive, even the slightest mistake, even your body shape, color of your skin, if you are in standards-- Knetz can see it and will make fuzz about it. You can never be a normal person when you debut. SM somehow at some point gives their artists discipline and a bit of free will and if they do mistakes, they must be responsible. SM is not perfect and also screw up many times but SM is very inclusive.

    All of those sound so horrid when you put it that way. But in this day and era where a simple text can be manipulated into something negative, i kinda understand the measures that SM takes to set some boundaries, especially for new groups. For older groups i guess the rules aren't so strict because by then they've already learned from experiences and probably mistakes. As for the harsh training system, i guess it's in the culture itself. Korea is known for their hard working ethics and is what made their kpop artist as successful as today...

    • @keithcraig506
      @keithcraig506 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I think the 'harsh' training goes above and beyond your typical Korean work ethic.
      People don't understand how difficult it is to become an idol. I'm sure thousands of people audition to be idols every year. Of those thousands a very small percentage are accepted. An even smaller percentage are chosen by mid to high tier companies. And a practically minuscule percentage of those chosen by a company get to debut every year. Naturally you would have to work extra, EXTRA hard to make it in that kind of cut throat competition.
      And then you have to perform at the highest level after you debut.
      It's like professional athletes. Only the best of the best succeed and being the best of the best takes a lot of hard work.

    Giselle openly said she uses Twitter.sm doesn't allow them to live but they use social media as they wish. Giselle said she has an account that looks like a fan account and follows her fan pages. aespa is always on social media in general and is aware of what's going on. as long as they're not busy. other than that, SM is actually pretty free compared to other companies. SM doesn't fire their idols when they date or marry someone. Unlike some companies, they allow girl group members to write lyrics and produce. Of course there are rules, but sometimes I think it's seriously exaggerated and people are intimidated.
    There are famous trainees who stayed in SM for 10 years but they never spoke badly of SM. If so, how can these people stay in this company for 10 years? SM follows the rules that every company does, but not like the others. male and female trainees can spend time together comfortably. Their idols are always close to each other. yes it's hard to be in big company but they become super famous and their efforts pay off. sometimes SM idols openly voice their grievances. I don't think SM is as bad as other companies. Hard practice is normal. If you want stable vocals during the dance, you have to.

    4:43 I doubt this one, based on what NCT dream said about their trainee days where they would bend the rules and there weren't consequences I highly doubt the hitting stuff, running laps also sounds impractical for holding a lesson. With posting control I think it is mostly about the official group accounts. I wish SM had hired more people to educate trainees about dieting and mental health, though I heard that diet education in South Korea isn't the best, so idk if it would do more help than harm.

    In my opinion, compared to other companies like JYP, Cube, Pledis, YG ect SM is actually quite lenient. Yes vigorous training and the singing while running bla bla bla but those rules are what made SM group the best in each generation of K-pop. And the singing while running or push ups made sense. Like have you heard these idols? It trains their breath control when dancing and obviously it works. Even their rappers could be main vocalist because their vocals are just so stable. Compared to DBSK/TVXQ, Super Junior, SNSD and SHINee era, the new systems are better and more lenient. I'm a first gen fan aka HOT and BoA era and I've seen how bad the system were back then. And the dating one just make sense and SM is known to be cool with dating. Like so far, SM just confirm or deny. They never ignore it like YG or throw people out like Cube or kick their artist out when dating a non idol person ahem ahem. They let their idols start a family for goodness sake like Chen. The man even had second baby now which good for you baby daddy. Not bad SM. Hell Idm if I had to train 12 hours and sing while running 100miles if that was the case. Plus SM only picked the best.

    If you expect to debut from a group like SM, you have to work hard.
    I've seen SO many girls who simply because they're pretty, think everything will get handed to them once they sign with an agency.
    I remember seeing an interview with Joy from Red Velvet. She related that she got quite a rude shock when she first arrived at SM. She said that she was always "the pretty one" in school and everything was very easy for her. When she arrived at SM, she realized that her looks didn't count for anything at all, simply because *every single person there* already looked like a supermodel.
    She realized that just being pretty wasn't good enough. And if she didn't work harder than everyone else, she wasn't going to debut.

Forcing them would mean that they didn't have the intention to do so but SM coerced them do follow the rules. Also, those rules are pretty standard for K-pop trainees. It doesn't mean that all of them are ok, but it's not just an SM - AESPA thing. Basically, this video exaggerates a bit.

    As if this is the only Korean entertainment group that does this, there are many unwritten rules(example dating) that will get you kicked out immediately. The culture is different at least now as the group gets more established more freedom. They still need more freedom and money, but at least things are being shown more to public in writing to be able to protect the idols. There is still a long way to go, but it's slowly getting better. I like the music and hope the idols can get more in all the company's.

    I understand the business perspective of it. Very expensive to build and maintain. They don’t want anything that could jeopardize the group or agency’s image. With that said, a lot of the people who train understand it takes a lot of hard work and discipline to debut and become popular. A lot of them are willing to go through those challenges because they’ve trained for a long time. I do wish it wasn’t as strict, but they do that to ensure the idols are completely focused and no room for distractions.

    • @jordicarvajal2834
      @jordicarvajal2834 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree because these strict are made in order for groups and companies to maintain a clean public image. Any controversy or scandal that gets in the way can easily ruin an idol's career and put a bad reputation in the company. K-pop is an extremely competitive industry that is worth billions of dollars. Fan service and your availability to fans is extremely important in the entertainment industry in Korea compared to other countries.

    • @클레어-g2o
      @클레어-g2o 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      for evaluations they have set songs and choreos assigned to them which are pretty regular and they practice on their own + in class with vocal/dance trainers. they have dance lessons with instructors so they probably start with hiphop foundations learning basic steps and combos especially when they just started and a lot of female idols seem to know waacking a bit so i assume some female idols learn waacking foundations too. instructors obviously check on progress so they're usually practicing whatever their evaluation piece is or what their instructor told them to practice.

    These rules are not strictly just enforced by SM to aespa, more of Korean entertainment company to their idol. Also, phone usage has been permitted after half year if I am not wrong for them, tattoo was ok (like you mentioned with Ning), the rest are pretty standard. I am quite surprised how much SM changed since SNSD time, it used to be much tougher for them back then. I used to really dislike SM for Jessica case back then, also they screwed up the Holiday promotion (to me, to gain leverage over those members who don’t recontract or to screw them up anyway). I am not sure how much the management has changed, but they seem to do things right since earlier this year. I am really looking forward to what they are having in store for aespa.

    I wish that KPOP helped trainees nourish their love for music more! There are some real artists out there I'm sure but these systems are designed, especially nowadays, to focus less on creativity and more on conformity. That's why idols with a real passion for music like BTS & SKZ are so rare, especially with ggs, because the training is designed to just make idols who /can/ sing, dance, and be public personas, but not actually /make/ those songs or choreographies, or maybe even /love/ doing it, which is the whole point of going into a creativity-based career, is loving what you're doing and not just becoming a machine doing it with no originality whatsoever.
