Not trying to discredit Karina in any way, but her case doesn't scream MissA or 4minutes vibe. Winter is just has popular as her. If anything, Karina is the new Lisa. In terms of recognization. People who first get into Aespa already know Karina name, but after sometime they either start stanning Winter or the other girls. The same way people be stanning Jennie. Karina is the face of the group, but her popularity isn't doesn't overshadow the other members to the point of people not knowing their basic name.
I kinda agree, cause. she is really a centre and face in it’s truest sense. Like I’m not like an aespa Stan, but Karina drew me in but now I’m more drawn to ningning when I check them out. The thing is Karina isn't just the visual like in some kpop groups, she's an all rounder so she stands out even more. But, if you dont know about Aespa, she honestly doesn't overshadow the other members once you get into them. It didn't take long for me to recognize Winter, Ningning, and Giselle when I got into Aespa. I mean Winter (in terms of popularity) is kinda the same with Karina.

Karina wasn't really shoved into our faces, it's just natural to be drawn to her since she has really recognizable features. But in my case, what caught my eye is Ningning during the Next Level era.

I was surprised when I started watching behind-the-scenes and variety clips, she has a cute and soft side that really comes out, and it contrasts so much with her sharp presence on stage. It's really cute. Winter has such a cute face but is way more "fierce" in her off-stage persona than Karina (and even then has an aegyo side that keeps coming out lol).

I dont really listen to Aespa but I really like Karina. I love her dancing style and vocals and she's super pretty. Definitely stood out to me and has this unspoken charisma. I even feel tempted to buy makeup she models for. Alot of eyes were already on her even if aespa's management didn't push her out more
Reminds me of Nct's Taeyong situation people used to call him SM's fav and the most pushed member(they still call him tho) and look at him now being one of the most talented k-pop idol out there who can sing, dance, rap, write, produce, compose, choreograph and direct. He has established himself as an artist now.
And Karina attracts more attention and people to Aespa but that doesn't means she is most pushed and Sm's fav it's not her fault people are paying much attention to her and it's too early to predict that the group will end up like some other disbanded group coz all are 4 members in Aespa are talented and are recognised for their talent and skills. They all are getting equal opportunities so let's be positive about them.

Hyuna WAS the impetus for 4 min. She was the first member and before it had a name it was called the “Hyuna group”. Being a former Wonder Girl, she was the selling point from the start.
at the end of the day it was Cube who f'd up the group. They were doing well as a group but Cube just kept on pushing Hyuna to a point where it created a rift between the other members and the fans.

I find it strange when I hear about the whole Karina thing. Whenever I watch Aespa's MV's, I'm floored by Ningning and Winter. They're the two that just stun me with their vocals. I think the hate against Karina is sad. Poor girl must be going through a lot.

In other hand, when it comes to 2NE1, Park Bom was never underestimated for having the best singing voice there; Dara wasn't the main focus on their songs, but she is an actress, considered the prettiest members and had her own solid fantasy since forever. Minzy, despite being an outstanding dancer was the member that was more left behind, was not even a hidden thing all her members had solo music and activities beside her. But is not like CL stole their spotlight, she was the rapper and for sure the most well known name outside of Korea, but not the center of everything like Hyuna.

She definitely got different oustanding outfits and hairstyles, even in Coachella too. She also has the most media updates in aespa sns. If you are not in my fandom, you won’t realize it because most of non stans keeps seeing Karina at the center, but Winter is indeed the most pushed member currently.

Honestly i don't know where people got this "SM pushes Karina more" when from what i've seen, neither of the members is pushed at all, all of them got their time to shine either through special stages or solo gigs, might be less for NingSelle but overall i haven't seen a big favour to Karina at all....Like that person said, she's the center of the group, so of course we'll see her standing at the front, being on the center or seeing her face everywhere, that's her position, but all the members have got their time to shine too.

I am not really an ÆSPA fan (I don’t really enjoy their songs), but Karina seems so sweet from the videos I saw of her. Even I don’t believe she could ever be so mean! She is so cute and sweet. I just don’t understand how people could hate her. 😕
The difference with 4minute and aespa is the members all shine whereas in 4minute they didn’t get that. Like look at winter she was given a whole performance as a reveal to aespa. Ning Ning’s vocals are just crazy as hell and vocally she’s the most loved. Giselle literally shines when she sings or raps like that girl is gorgeous she even is multi talented and can speak English meaning she’ll represent the group more internationally giving her spotlight. Karina may be the all rounder but all the members shine meaning she won’t overshadow them in worth.
This is going to be really long but I have a lot of thoughts about this so I thought I'd leave a comment. I'm a predebut aespa fan and Karina is my ultimate bias now. She doesn't get treated as good as it may seem from outside the fandom, especially her own subfandom.
- SM stood up for her once they haven't been protecting her (nor any of the members) from the nasty comments since. Even the son of a government official was exposed for saying things about her but nothing was done to ensure her wellbeing.
- They often don't post Karina's pictures on social media, or post them and delete them later without giving a reason while keepnig the other member's posts up.
- Since debut, two of her birthdays passed and while the other members got contents like special birthday videos posted to TH-cam and Twitter, Karina got a short video on an Instagram story last year, and nothing this year. She asked if she could hold a birthday event (like a livestream) but she revealed on Bubble that the company told her no.
- While the other members are allowed to experiment with hairstyles and styling, she's been restricted to the exact same hairstyle for the past 2 years now. Even when she changed her hairstyle during the short break they took this year, SM dyed her hair back to a dark color, straightened it and added extensions to make it look exactly as it was before.
Also, I don't think aespa will be anything like 4minute. Karina cares so much about her members, there's one clip that really stuck with me that proves it. During their appearance on Knowing Bros, they'd give small individual talent showcases as a segment on the show where all 4 of them prepared a little performance. During Ningning's vocal performance, Karina was sitting behind her and she stood up to walk the side. You can hear one of the hosts quietly asking her why, and her replying that people should focus on Ningning only so she didn't want to be in frame.
She's also always affectionate with the other girls, both times they went to an airport she'd be making sure everyone is alright when the crowd got too close to them. Ningning also mentioned on a radio show that since she's a foreigner, she needed a lot of help to adjust to life in Korea and Karina is someone she's thankful for because she helps her a lot. Both Winter and Giselle also often mention Karina's kindness especially whenever they write letters to each other as part of a variety show or special event.
Karina is a wonderful and sweet girl, she doesn't only shower her fans with love and care but her members and everyone around her in her life. Countless stories about her childhood are out there, people always talk about how nice and thoughtful she is, and share small endearing details about how she treats others even if she's not personally close to them. She deserves absolutely none of the hate she's ever gotten.
I really hope as aespa grows our fandom will too, so one day our love astronomically outweighs the hate. At this point they still see it, and we know because they tell MYs. They talked about it as recently as after the Coachella performance. If you're not a fan of aespa, I hope you can find it in you not to be so harsh on them. They debuted during a pandemic, they don't have much experience being an idol yet, but they're working hard and they're all really kind and loving people. Karina being the leader of such a wonderful group makes so much sense because they all take after her in some ways. She's not much older than the other members but it feels like she's really mature for her age, she's self-aware but uses the position she's in to spread kindness and love every single day, she deserves the same treatment.
About the hair thingy… I believe she mentioned that she personally likes having long hair and didn’t like it when she had it short during predebut. All the ironing definitely destroyed her hair so she had to cut it to mid length recently but I don’t think SM’s particularly restricting her about it.
Karina may be The most popular member, but recently I’ve seen a lot of support and love for the other members equally. this situation has gotten better and is a bit different than ive’s, in my opinion

I once had a friend who hated any female idol who was very beautiful because they made her feel ugly. She especially hated beautiful female idols if they were in the same company as her male biases bc she couldn’t handle the fact that they would interact. If her bias ever had a dating rumor, she hated that female to death. She was one of those people. Karina, with her striking good looks, talent, and connections to many popular idols, seems like a target for those type of people, unfortunately.

Aespa is a very highly invested group of sm's and only pushing one member sounds a little icky... I thought Winter has been Sm's secret weapon I was shocked to know it was Karina but anyway I still believed that Winter was the secret weapon of the group based on the news I have read since their debut. And although she's the most popular among them winter as well and now I really think ningning is catching up on them and I also hope more people will love giselle she's been popular even before her debut. I think its natural for SM to promote more on the group's leader like take example Taeyong and Mark who mostly get featured for NCT promotions as well. And it's ironic to see people bashing on Karina so hard from everything she does and when SM tries to protect their artist people would labelled her as the secret weapon/sm favorite? Isnt aespa the start of all the kwangya multiverse and SM's new wave? so its kinda obvious they'd protect this group at all cost.

I think the key to any group's success is how well members bond and interact. Of course, they all contribute things that help the group succeed: Vocal, choreo, visual, etc. I don't see Karina overshadowing aespa members.
