- PECAN SLAB PIE
Crust: 2-1/2 cups All Purpose Flour
1 cup (2 sticks) Cold butter, Chopped or grated
2 teaspoons Sugar
2 teaspoons Salt
1/2 cup Buttermilk
In a large bowl whisk the flour sugar, and salt together. cut in the cold butter with a pastry cutter, 2 knives, food processor or grate in with a cheese grater.
With a fork stir in the buttermilk and then use your hands to bring together into a ball. Pour out onto plastic wrap. Wrap it good and press it into a disk. Place in the refrigerator for 1 hour to rest and then let sit on your counter for 20 minutes to warm a bit. On a floured surface roll out the dough into a rectangle slightly larger than a 9 x 13 sheet pan. Crimp the edges of the dough with your fingers or a fork. Place parchment paper onto the crust and add pie weights or dried beans like i do and blind bake the crust for 20 minutes in a 350-degree F oven. Then remove and turn your oven down to 325-degrees F.

1-1/2 cups corn Syrup
3/4 cup Butter, melted
2 tablespoons All Purpose Flour
2 teaspoons Salt
2 teaspoons Vanilla
1 teaspoon Orange Zest
In a large bowl whisk eggs well. Add the brown sugar, syrup, butter, flour, salt, vanilla and zest. Mix well. Pour the pecans onto the crust and spread evenly. Pour the mixture onto the pecans evenly. Bake for 40 minutes on 325 degrees F or until set. If necessary, cover loosely with foil to keep the crust and pecans from excess browning.

I have watched this video several times. It was the very first video I ever watched from you. I fell in awe of your personality, your wholesome cooking skills and how personable you are. It’s like watching a family member pass down a favorite recipe except it’s put on a video. I love how you and John incorporate your love for each other, your faith, family time and farming in your posts. Your not just showing us how to make tasty recipes, but you’re also showing how to spend time with your husband (investing in your marriage), making beautiful memories with your family (even sometimes a late night snack), your boldly including God (with church as well as you and John praying over a taste test). I made a walnut pie one Thanksgiving because I sent the boys to the store. I told them what size bag I needed and that I wanted halves. No pecans of that description, so they brought me walnuts. I made the pie with my pecan pie recipe. Everyone liked it.

I’m from Iowa and have been making this for about 25years. We call it pecan pie bars and the crust is only on the bottom. I use a Pampered Chef stone bar pan. For people with nut allergies I use oatmeal, dried cranberries and chocolate chips. This recipe is very versatile when it comes to the ‘pie’ ingredients.

Years ago I was visiting a big old farm house ( 1800s) in Illinois. Out back from the kitchen was a summer kitchen. There were lots of windows to open for air to circulate. It had a Big cast iron stove. What a wonderful way not to heat up the living quarters of the main house and yet cook and bake.

Looks totally Delicious!!!!. My. Favorite Pie. You are so sweet and you put love in everything you cook. Thank you for sharing with us. Need to ask for a special prayer for my 80 year old mother. This past Friday she took a bad fall. Busted the back of her head open & broke her right hip and Femur bone. She had to have surgery Saturday morning. The good Lord blessed her and answered prayer. The surgeon said it was a very badly break. It took longer than usual because it was so bad and delicate. The doctor stayed. She came out of surgery well. Thank you Jesus. They told her today inpatient rehab for at least 20 days. To hopefully heal and progress and to get stronger. Please help us pray for God's healing and help so she may become as close to normal again. And can be mobile and not in a wheel chair status. She loved her independence, of course wit assisted help. Thank ya'll so so much. God bless. Love , hugs, & prayers. Keep cooking for us Amy, love it and enjoy ya'll. Such a lovely couple in the mist of the Lord!! Awesome!!

Love your recipe. At 81 I've never heard of buttermilk in crust. Love to cook/bake and pie crust is a hit or miss thing all these years. Not one of the cookbooks I own says to use buttermilk instead of water. Brother John! Where have you been all my life! What a valuable lesson. Big hugs!!!

I also make a pecan pie cobbler. Same principle but in a pretty casserole dish with a crust on top. For Thanksgiving and Christmas, I’ll use leftover crust and small cookie cutters to decorate the top of my slab pie, no top crust. Such a pretty presentation too! OMG this is such a great idea. New Subscriber here, luv watching u Bake. I luv Pecan Pie or we called them in the Country Pecan Bars, but made the same. My Mother made them on Special Occasions and I was very happy. Our front yard was loaded with Pecan Trees, and my Mother would have us children harvest them and she would put them up for her to use when she wanted, but it had to be a Special Occasion. I make pecan pies…….everybody’s favorite! My sister gave me the recipe probably 35 or 40 years ago. It calls for brown sugar instead of syrup. I tweaked it to my satisfaction and still add a bit of syrup but……it’s a great recipe. My extended family members always looked for my pecan pie at our get togethers! I’ve lost two sisters and a niece since 2020. I’m not able to cook as much anymore but…I’ll try this. 😃

Girl when I listen back to myself on these videos I'm think I sound so country to myself😄😄 I make a pecan pie with brown sugar in it too and I really like it that way. Pecan pie has so many variations it ain't even funny is it! Thank you for your sweetness 😘

Pecan pie is my all time favorite dessert.
I grew up with small, sweet pecans, from my Great Aunt Inez's pecan trees, in Southern Alabama. She mailed them already shelled, to us, in Michigan or Ohio... Mmmmm.
