I'm 73yo in Murray, KY. I bake a lot. Going to my younger brother's in Glasgow for Thanksgiving. I asked what to bring and he requested pecan pie. I have pecan trees and it's been a bountiful mast year. So I will be taking "your" pecan pie using pecans I harvested from my trees. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much for letting us be a part of your holiday this year. We hope you enjoy the pie - you sure won't get pecans any fresher than ones you harvested from your own tree! That's wonderful! Happy Thanksgiving!
@JudithBrummett : Story about the trees. My maternal uncle was an agent for Life of Georgia Insurance. He went to Atlanta every year for the Corporate Meeting. He always brought a sack of pecans back. Daddy started seedlings. He had two huge trees. He started more seedlings from his trees. He gifted me 2 of the seedlings ~20yag. They are now producing and the nuts are awesome when the gray squirrels don't get them. Daddy has been gone since 2018 but he is still with us in the trees. Thanks for the comment.
@@gerardjohnson2106 What a lovely story! we stay in AZ every winter in our RV but on the way we stop at Junction TX and pick up pecans (free!) in the city park. It is so fun gathering them! I know there are ppl who will shell them in machines for a small price or percentage of nuts but I enjoy using my nutcracker and shelling them by hand. I have planted a fig tree that should start producing in the next cpl years so I am looking forward to that too. Have a blessed thanks giving.
What memories that pie brings. At Christmas time all of us kids would go to my moms for what we called Christmas Eve. My mom would always make my twin sister (RIP Sis. I miss you) a blueberry cheesecake and she would make me a pecan pie to take home as part of our Christmas presents. She would use chopped pecans because she didn't want the pie messed up just like you said. One of my brothers would always try to steal our pies but my mom would catch him every time and smack his butt with her "Mama knows best" yardstick. To get the best goodies Mama made you had to get in the front of the line or you would miss out on the pigs in a blanket (those were the hot ticket item at Christmas). When my sister got cancer mama made a family decision that Donna got to be at the front of the line. The look on her face and that big smile she had was worth all the gold in the world. She slow walked by everyone going to the front and she would smile this Cheshire Cat smile and her over exaggerated sway. Those were the days. We would tell everyone on their first Christmas at moms that we get a little crazy at Christmas lol... Great memories. Thank you. I don't know what you taught as a teacher but, it should have been home economics. At least thats what we called it in my day (I'm telling my age lol). My grandchildren call it culinary arts.
It's been a year since you left your sweet comment. My only child, my daughter and she is battling terminal cancer. She will definitely get to go to the front of the line. I am so sorry for the loss of your sister and will pray for the good Lord to comfort you and your family during this holiday season.🙏
@@Rudymk-ph2xb Thank you and I am so sorry for what your daughter and you are going through. I will keep you and yours in my prayers. Always remember, the Good Lord deals in miracles and they happen every day so don''t ever give up. Big Hugs to you.
I just put your pecan pie in the oven. Can’t wait. Thanks so much! I had to bake it for 60 minutes, The pie came out of the oven, cooled and my husband, my son and I ate half of it . It was so delicious.we finished it off the next day.
I’ve made pecan pie with the dark corn syrup before and it does taste quite a bit different from the white syrup but I find it very difficult to acquire dark corn syrup here in Texas. You just about have to go and buy your dark corn syrup during the summer months and stash it back in your cabinet until the holidays because by the time October rolls around they don’t have enough of it on the shelf for people to buy. The dark corn syrup does give it a much richer flavor and I like both, the pecan pies made from the white corn syrup and the dark corn syrup, and I have also eaten pecan pie made from just white sugar, no syrup. And that’s good too. But I will tell you if you’re ever stuck with having to use the white corn syrup or just plain sugar, if you will add a fourth of a cup or even a half of a cup of molasses to the pie you will get a very similar flavor that the dark corn syrup gives. It’s very good. And actually when people use the brown sugar rather than all white sugar they are also getting more molasses because that’s what brown sugar is made of and of course the dark brown sugar has more molasses than the light brown sugar. Since it is so extremely difficult to find dark corn syrup in some areas of the United States, I really believe it would be beneficial if you could pass this information on to your audience. Hopefully together we will be able to help people in a predicament. I’m sure many many people would love to make the pecan pie that you’re making because it is much richer and much more flavorful than what they could make or pick up already made at the grocery store. That’s for sure. Thank you for sharing your recipe 😋!
If you warm it just a little in the microwave, it is really good with vanilla ice cream. We stopped by a really nice restaurant in Charleston, SC, after a symphony concert and they served it that way. It was the best!
Also..thank you for demonstrating how to do the pie crusts. I’ve always struggled with that, but now I know how to get it right. You certainly have taught me a lot about cooking.
Thanks Tom and Melissa! 🥧 🍰 Thanks for the tip on that pie shield. Never heard of it. Always fought with aluminum foil around the edges. Blessings from Arizona 🌵
I always use light corn syrup because there's enough molasses flavor in the brown sugar for me. I would never add cinnamon, but a layer of chocolate chips on the bottom is really good! For my 17th birthday, I had pecan pie instead of cake. Remember the white Tupperware pie holders where you could stack 2 pies in a container? Mama used those so the 2 pies looked like a cake!
I just love watching you cook and bake Tom. I am watching you two over and over. I told my son about your dry brine for turkey and I think we're going to do that this year because he has a turkey frier and can't wait to use it.
I enjoy watching u bake!! I thought how wonderful for a husband who likes to bake. Thank you for explaining the difference in flavor with the dark and light corn syrup. Love the recipe, and my son love the way you deliver the recipes... Like a school teacher!!!
We love pecan pie(I think we love most pies) 🤭 Love watching your easy to follow demonstrations and recipes... always ready to learn .. ❣️Thank you both..from Paducah,Kentucky (school cafeteria worker for 19 years) retired ...have a lovely day
You are such a good cook and a really good teacher! 🍎 I always learn something new watching your videos even if you're making something I've made before. Always a pleasure. Hope you will be free of those allergy issues soon 🙏
You two are so cute! This is the first of your videos I’ve seen - you had me at “pecan pie”! I’m a native Californian but my husband is originally from Mississippi - one of 5 boys. They all have such wonderful memories of the big pecan tree in their yard back home, and Daddy shelling the nuts for hours so Mama would bake some pies. Pecan pie is still his absolute favorite, even at 70 years old. I made one for him many years ago, using his mom’s handwritten recipe, but something was “off”. I can’t wait to try your recipe and loved the step by step demonstration. I’ll make a couple of these for our family Christmas gathering here at our home…one for him and one for the four brothers! 😆. Thank you!
My Mother always used both dark and light corn syrup it was like a happy medium in color. Love pecan pie. Thanks for the recipe ❤❤ Oh, very helpful about the pie crust too!
I have never made a homemade pie before but I’m definitely going to give this a try. You make it seem so easy with your instructions on making this. Thank you for sharing your recipe with us. You’re great at explaining everything.😊

This is a really good tutorial on this and also some great hints on that piecrust. I just bought six of them at the store to make pies. Happy Thanksgiving to y’all. I bet this is a great recipe he’s got!!!🦃👨🍳
Looks delicious! Have you ever tried the pecan pie with cook & serve vanilla pudding in it? Not as sweet as the traditional. 1- 3.5 oz vanilla pudding, not instant! 1 cup light corn syrup, 1 egg, 3/4 cup evaporated milk, 1 cup broken pecans or more, mix all together pour into pie crust deep dish 9 inch. Bake 375 - 35 to 40 min.

Good morning Tom & Melissa, Tom, how can you eat that pie in front of us? That happy face, well do enjoy. The pie turned out so delicious looking and the pie crust baked beautifully. This sure is a winner. I agree, the smaller pecans make the cutting of the pie much better. Eat with ice cream, just cream or just enjoy this is always welcome at the table. Thank you for sharing the tips with the flour on the pastry, and the great recipe. We do not celebrate Thanks Giving but there is no reason not to bake this Pecan Pie and be grateful. Thank you for sharing, many blessings. Do have a wonderful Thanks Giving day in any which way you are going to spend it. Kind regards.
Thanks for your many great recipes! I love the Pillsbury pie crusts but have never rolled them out before placing in the plate. What a helpful idea! You guys are a great team!
This is a wonderful recipe. Perfect for Thanksgiving. I just love all of your recipes!😍 Tom you are such a gentlemen. You and Melissa are such a blessed couple. Yes if you publish a cookbook I will definitely purchase one and gifts for friends. I eagerly await for a new recipe. I am in Hawaii so some of the recipes are new to me but still dishes that I would prepare for my family. God Bless you both and Aloha from Hawaii 🌺🥰🌺
Thank you for the great tip on the pie crust! I will add it to my recipe so l don’t forget it. I am creating a favorite recipes cookbook so l have them all in one place and l will donate my cookbooks. It’s part of my downsizing since l am 75 and don’t want to leave a lot of unnecessary things for family to go through and decide what to keep, donate, or toss. One thing l always do when using pecans in a recipe is to toast them. I spread them evenly on a rimmed baking sheet and bake at 350 until they begin to turn darker and become aromatic, making sure to toss halfway through, 7 to 10 minutes, remove from the oven and let cool. You just have to keep an eye on them because you can overcook them!
Great tip! Thanks for sharing it with us. We appreciate that you've reached out to us. We've been so blessed with wonderful connections to people through this channel. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Your pecan pie and pumpkin pie will be on our Thanksgiving table! Thanks for your demonstration of rolling out and flouring the pie crust! Wishing you and Melinda a blessed Thanksgiving!
Really enjoy your videos. i heard you mention living in KY. I live in Tompkinsville, KY. The first video I came across of yours was Taco soup. Delicious! Thank you for sharing these yummy recipes.
I made this yesterday for Thanksgiving. It was delicious!! There were a few more pecans than a traditional recipe, but my family was happy about that! If anyone is wondering about the added cinnamon, the taste was very subtle and reminded me of the cinnamon pecans that are sold around Christmas in the mall. Thank you so much for all of your videos. I’m a teacher and it’s been my morning routine for the last couple of weeks to watch your videos while I get ready for school. 😊
Made a many of pecan pie but never but pecan in first. Always mix in filling. I use Blackburn table syrup instead of Karo works well love the taste. Love your channel.
I love watching your videos, I work evenings and when I get back home, I watch one of your videos. I was wondering if you could make a cut out cookie recipe for the holidays? 🎄
I was always afraid to make a pecan pie. Your tutorial and instructions make me feel a lot more comfortable in trying it now. Thanks for the recipe and wish me luck because I will be making this one. I have to also tell you that I love what you say at the end of your videos and I feel that I would be welcomed to "Come Sit At your Table."
Yabetterbelieveit Tom. Greatest pre made pie crust. My Mamaw would have never imagined such as we have now.❤ Blessings, grace & mercy Happy Thanksgiving
Thank you so very much for being so patient and clear on instructions. I’m going to follow your instructions specifically because I’m going to be making this pie for the very first time. Specially thank you for explaining the why’s for the Karol syrup I will be using the dark syrup ❤…
This looks delicious. Always good to see a different pecan pie recipe. I make a different version and baste the rim of my pie crust with egg white instead of using a pie rim (going on 50 yrs). I also prick the bottom and sides with a fork to keep the crust from bubbling up.
I just wanted to thank you for sharing your delicious recipes. I made the one with the cream cheese and pastry roll however I tweeted it just a bit. I added a can of apple pie mix , spreading the apples evenly over the cream cheese then the rest of the mix . It was simply DELICIOUS !!!

Me, too! I always do half light and half dark corn syrup. I think that makes the perfect pecan pie.
Why not skip the corn syrup all together?
Because it won't have the right texture

Pecan pie is one of my favorites it looks absolutely delicious a beautiful pie
I just love all your little tips.
I love pecan pie!
It looks so good. I am going to try it instead of getting it from Piccadilly Cafeteria. Thanks for sharing.
Love pecan pie ❤
Looks amazing and so much easier than I thought it would be. This will be my first year making a pecan pie, thank you for this post!
Your pecan pie and pumpkin pie will be on our Thanksgiving table! Thanks for your demonstration of rolling out and flouring the pie crust! Wishing you and Melinda a blessed Thanksgiving!

Happy, happy, thanksgiving you, 24:03 Two!!! Your pie looks delish!!! Thank you, from ohio!!!
You are a wonderful teacher Tom.
Just finished watching…absolutely wonderful! Saying “Hey!” from the Back of the Bus crew.
It looks like a go to pecan pie 🥧. 😊
Made a many of pecan pie but never but pecan in first. Always mix in filling. I use Blackburn table syrup instead of Karo works well love the taste.

I don’t care for pecans but this pie seems so easy… thank you
You seem like such a fun couple
Thank you so much. We appreciate your kind words and that you've joined us at the table.
You could substitute walnuts for the pecans
Making this for Thanksgiving and Christmas this year, thank you so much!
I am from Crossville, TN. I live in Kentucky now. Glad you like the rolling pin.
You guys are fantastic. I LOVE your recipes. Joy
I have got to try this Pecan Pie recipe! Thank you 😊
Great tip with the dark corn syrup and halving the pecans ! Love your videos ❤
Thanks so much! 😊 We really do appreciate that you are watching our channel.
Yabetterbelieveit Tom. Greatest pre made pie crust. My Mamaw would have never imagined such as we have now.❤
Blessings, grace & mercy
Happy Thanksgiving
Thank you so very much for being so patient and clear on instructions. I’m going to follow your instructions specifically because I’m going to be making this pie for the very first time. Specially thank you for explaining the why’s for the Karol syrup I will be using the dark syrup ❤…
Thanks for the recipe! Wishing you and Melissa a Happy Thanksgiving from NH!!
We had pecan trees all over the place when I was a child so needless to say I was making pecan pies. We made lemon and chess as well. Tarts mainly.
This looks delicious. Always good to see a different pecan pie recipe. I make a different version and baste the rim of my pie crust with egg white instead of using a pie rim (going on 50 yrs). I also prick the bottom and sides with a fork to keep the crust from bubbling up.
Wow. Molasses would make a huge difference. Good call.
Oh my! This pie looks absolutely delicious! Thank you!
Wow! I live in Crossville TN…a transplant from NW Indiana. Love your videos❤️
Looks scrumptious 😋
