Dude when I first got DCS I didn't understand that a lot of buttons function differently when pressed vs held. I guess i should have read the manuals haha
AIM-7E is a Vietnam era missile AIM-7F is a solid state missile with a bigger rocket engine AIM-7M is an inverse Monopulse missile which makes it very accurate and ECM ressistant but it was introduced in 1982
@@grimreapers the British Skyflash missile is an AIM-7E with the old electronics and seeker ripped out and replaced with British engineering. It was solid state and monopulse in the mid 70s. So the RAF had monopulse missiles ahead of the US.
The post-launch countdown timer uses the prefix "T" indicate time until pitbull. When it has the prefix "M," that is estimated time to impact. This is why the Sparrow always has a "T" number and if you long-bomb the AMRAAM it starts as a "T," drops to zero, the missile goes pitbull, then starts an "M" countdown. Where this gets a bit confusing is that the pre-launch countdown for the AMRAAM always has an "M" designation. The pre-launch countdown on your HUD and radar screen indicates time to pitbull when outside pitbull range (10 nm). But then inside pitbull range, your HUD's pre-launch countdown indicates time to impact, while your radar screen will say "M0," meaning, immediate pitbull. Consider a case where you fire an AMRAAM at about 12 nm. Right before you fire, the lower right of your HUD and the bottom of your radar screen will say "M2." As soon as you fire, the lower left of your HUD will change your Mach number to "T2 M16," meaning, 2 seconds to pitbull, 16 to impact. Theoretically, the missile should hit in 16 seconds, but in reality, it'll probably hit in about 20-24 seconds. Now consider a case where you fire an AMRAAM at 9 nm. Right before you fire, the lower right of your HUD will read "M12" and the bottom of your radar screen will say "M0." As soon as you fire, the lower left of your HUD will change your Mach number to "M12" meaning, 0 seconds to pitbull, 12 to impact.
this confused me as hell after coming to f-15 from f-16 since in the F-16 timer with T means that amraam went pitbull. before that it says A so i thought that I am doing something wrong and not providing guidance to the missile
This tutorial series got me my first splash! Even though it was an AI, it felt awesome and the gratification after learning and getting it to work was awesome.
Honestly this is just so dope to me. MSFS2020 really got me into flight sims but DCS is kicking it up a whole extra notch for me especially in VR! I've never been interested in planes, let alone avionics until now. I've been obsessed lately & the F15 was my first purchase. Thank you for these tutorials! Really helps streamline things as I don't think I'd ever figure it out on my own. Had my first successful startup, takeoff, 10-15 minute flight and landing last night after 2 attempts! Initially wasn't able to make it off the runway without crashing 😂 Subscribed!
A Quick correction at 12:37 : The number flashing at the right of the letter M is in fact the time to intercept/impact and NOT the time to go pitbull (i.e the time for the missile to activate it's own radar) In the video here, the target is already close enough and we do not see the Time to Active (pitbull). If the target were further away, we would see at the left of the letter M the letter T with it's own countdown. This countdown is the Time to Active. Exemple: " T 12 M 21 " When the missile has activated it's own radar, the countdown of the letter T will have reached 0 and thus, The Letter T along it's countdwon will have disapeared, leaving only the letter M with its own countdown, as seen in the cideo at this time stamp. Hope this helps !
Thank you so much for taking the time and making all these videos years ago. I dunno what I would be doing if I didn't have them. (taking a lot longer to learn DCS or probably not playing it at all)
Cap, I have several question, First about Home on Jam on 120C, how to deploy it, can we dead reckoning the bandit position? Second, about Fox 3 'maddogs' boresight mode, can we just spam the 120C to bunch of bandits without locking them and let the missile lock it the first target it see? Third, about J-11, I forgot to ask, where the countdown time until pitbull? You remind me about it in F-15c By the way good video Cap
There's also a "mad dog" mode for the AIM-120, accessed as with FLOOD for the AIM-7. You don't even need your radar on though. The AIM-120 will just chase the brightest return from its own radar.
Great videos thanks for all the hard work you have put into these. I have one question, your cockpit interior looks very clean and crisp. How can I get it to look the same? I have all my settings set to high and enough Horsepower to run it, just curious what I'm missing. Thanks. I have flaming cliffs and standard map.
OK. 1) turn engines off and wait till spooled down. 2) open canopy with LCtrl+C 3) contact ground crew(press escape and go into ADJUST CONTROLS to find out what you key is for Commincation Menu), then through the comms menu select Re-arm/refuel and load whatever u want. 4) you must be at a friendly airfield. then go kill some shit.
