Optical system has a laser range finder. Sensors on A-10C give a warning when the craft is illuminated by laser.
Is it modeled in dcs?

Also I noticed enemy A-10C start taking action even before they can see me.
This helped me so much understanding the weapon systems on the SU-33

The scanzones of the EO do work. Notice how you can only point it down by I think -3 at max because it sits above the nose.
Only in the MiG-29 the EO is fixed and not adjustable (even tough there is still a hud representation for scanzone left/right, but that is a bug).

Yes everything is actually needed but +/- 3 is already quite high angles before you'd need to turn to track your lock so negates any other numbers to 15.
Also the Predicted Target Range is best left around 16 to 20m as that is the most you will get a Maximum Kill fire solution for FOX 3 it works with to go Pitbull within 8m when you can pull away halfway in case you need to dodge but do not notch to lose any locks in this range and you never need to lose lock for FOX 1 either because you can dodge. All you do is corkscrew to lower by 1000km with slightly widened arc to confuse the Missile enough. Drop Chaff (just 1 or 2) prior at original angels. US tactics are NOT needed for Flankers! Then you will get in close and kill anything.

@@macmusica The predicted range is for AWACS support: Inserting the reported distance to the contact and the difference in altitude will point the radar to the right elevation to see the target

How would you go about using the up/down search zone adjustment? On the F15 it's fairly easy to see where it's scanning, whereas on this it seems much more confusing.
The lock on target would reveal our weakness. Use two alternating guide point one from the mother ship and one from air craft then switch pulse every 30 microsecond between two sources

8:49 What? I always thought that little dot there indicates where to point the nose of the aircraft when you are about to launch in order to give your missle an optimal (initial) attitude to intercept the bandit, no?

Sort of, except there's also a fox 2 version of the r27 - the r27t (t for thermal, r for radar). Soviet doctrine was to have fox1 and fox2 versions of missiles, and fire them in pairs to complicate evasive action of the target.
So I've been learning the Flanker lately, and I think I'm getting a hang of the radar, and following along with this tutuoral pressing the exact same commands, but I'm seeing different symbology in the HUD. Instead of ILL at the bottom it looks more like NRN or something... Am I doing something wrong?
Sounds like you have your game settings set differently. Not sure which exact setting it will be though.
@@grimreapers His seeing the Cyrillic Russian version of the terms used. Authentic. Not that I am sure how they correspond to the Radar modes, been going through the tutorials myself but I know the alphabet so that helps.
Just wish it was clearer in VR but that will come when I get my new headset.

@@DarthFolo Hi ya, using a Pimax 8K at the moment but it is a little blurry on details. Some settings can help but I am waiting on a Pimax 8KX to drop my way which will be 4K per eye native res.
Do like the wide FOV of the 8K though.

There isn't an English version for the Flaming Cliff 3 planes. Normally, those settings can be changed under the Special Options tab. I wish there was an English version too!
Not sure if this would be helpful to you or not, but ive gotten so much out of your videos i wanted to try and give back. I am currently using a thrustmaster hotas 4 which is no where near as sophisticated as your saitek, i.e. I only have one Hat switch, but i've fixed that by putting modifiers on my throttle, i.e. LCtrl, LShift, so that i can now turn that 1 Hat switch into 3. Seems like it could be useful for the last few keyboard commands your still using.
Do with this info what you will. Just note that if you do go this route you will need to use a JoyToKey emulator and make sure those buttons u make modifiers have no function in game.

I have a problem in the su 27 s BVR.
I can't detect nor lock anything through bvr mode, though as soon as i am VERY close to an ennemy and switch to, let's say, boresight mode, I can lock the enemy...
I tried in mission editor and my radar refuses to detect a C130 at 10 clicks... What am I getting wrong ? (I am sure that i am in BVR mode and i'm sure i'm pointing the antenna in the right direction ...)

I know this is a late answer, but make sure the radar angle is right. If not you'll never see anything.
I'm trying this in the training: "Flaming Cliffs - MIG29S - BVR & R27ER - Missiles". Only thing different I can see with this video is that I don't get the circle tracking the target, my circle stays in the centre but there's a diamond tracking the plane, maybe HUD functionality has been updated in past 2 years? But I cannot fire the missile even though I get LA.
What did the number "10.0" on the bottom of HUD and near ILL mark?
someone can correct me if I am wrong but I believe that is the expected range of the target. This can be set to reflect the anticipated range of the target and will change the distance that the center of the radar cone points.

How did you manage to install J11A? I can't seem to find it anywhere. I have just purchased FC3 on STEAM, and I want those sweet R-77 rockets :)
It comes with FC3, but it may be the case that it is not included with the Steam version. Steam is no longer supported with DCS

If the mig29 can use fox3 (R77) missiles wouldn't that make it better than the su27 and su33, or am I missing something??
I think flankers are better cuz of the electronics, and the flight performance
@@mrwho9160 true but the lack of a fox-3 missile is a huge disadvantage in BVR combat against any other aircrafts that do posses fox-3 capabilities

SU27 SU33 and J11 have better situational awareness due to the Mig 29 HDD only being a backup for the HUD. Mig is blind apart from its own sensors and awacs calls. The other 3 can see contacts identified by other friendlies and awacs.

For some reason when I try to lock the target nothing happens, target lock works fine for everything else but when I try to target lock on radar nothing happens. Is there a range limit on the lock?
yes lock range will be 5-70km roughly depending on various parameters

You have to move the sqaure on the dots and then target lock
wow you must use a lot of macro buttons. Not sure i would be able to remember all those keybindes
not really, i dont use any macro i only have T16000M so no throttle (there is a slider on stick tho) and pretty fine without macro
I'm currently trying it with just a K&M and it is not that complicated, if you do the tutorial missions and just fly around, in order to familiarize yourself with the controls.
How do you get something like a radar on your HDD? I only have my HUD mirrored on the HDD
You're probably flying the MiG-29. This, in the video, is the J-11.

In practice, it makes cranking much more difficult, since you can't really tell where's the gimball limit of the radar dish. I hope the display will be more useful in the full-fidelity MiG-29A coming this year.

"hot" = flying towards you. "cold"= flying away
I don't think red has any long range missiles in DCS.
how is the J-11A in english? I checked and its doesnt even have special options.
Can someone please help me, I'm just getting into DCS and i bought the MiG-29. I have the radar on and am a few miles from a enemy aircraft and i click space for "target lock" key and it does nothing, i have no idea what I'm doing wrong. Really frustrating

Sometimes when i lock someone i cannot fire at the max range, the LA doesnt appear and then i'm just waiting to LA then i get killed
You can trigger LA early and fire at any range. Look for it in ADJUST CONTROLS.

@@grimreapers From wich plane or the plane I want to lock?. I fly in the su 33 And I try to lock basically anything. From f15 to su 27. And just some AI patrol planes (or something like that)
@@grimreapers With radar it works about 2 out of 10 times and with EO it never works in bvr. It does work with the vertical scan and the other modes.
The default contrast of the HUD is so abysmally bad on these models makes watching this nearly impossible on screens big or small

Russian planes look much simpler than American, probably less advanced but still there are some great things, for example this HUD looks much better organised than how it looks on F16. With a good pilot I believe they all are much more similar than not.

Considering what stuff was normal to play in my school-time, DCS is probably the most inoffensive game I've ever seen.
@@MrARCN7 i mean to say that, it requires lot of knowledge about an aircraft just to switch its power on in DCS unlike old days where 9 and 0 keys were enough to take the aircraft into the air.
Russian fighters are humbled to there knees not being able to take Ukraine airspace and are very chicken to even attempt to go into Ukraine air space because of American and other anti flying weapons.
They thought thier flying circus 🎪 abilities was the same as war. Afraid not Russia, the foul of the skies.
