  • As requested, we did another Korean Girls Try video. They will be trying 2 different types of pasta (carbonara, Paccheri alla Genovese), 2 types of Roman style pizza (Margherita, Prosciutto), Lasagna and 2 types of dessert (cannoli, tiramisu). No spaghetti and meatballs here! (That's Italian-American)

I would not say that, I was born and raised in Italy and I suspect that even italians don't eat real italian food anymore. Let me be clear...most of the best italian dishes are quite elaborate and are based on some local ingredients that can be very hard to find outside their original region. So even if I grew up thinking I knew everything about italian food I come to understand that if you want to taste the "real" pizza you must eat one in Naples, if you want to taste a delicious "pesto" you must eat it in Liguria, "pasta con le sarde" in Palermo, "ragú e tortellini" in Bologna and so on. Nowadays even italians don't have time to cook as required by our tradition...so...yeah... McDonald's for everybody.

No? Esatto...quello che stavo dicendo.

It was all perfect until the lasagna, I don’t know why people keep thinking there’s cheese in it, the real lasagna has what we call BESCIAMELLA which is not properly a cheese, it’s a mixture of flour butter and milk. A side that I’m really impressed on how every dish was pretty much looking like the real Italian dish, GREAT JOB 👍🏻

From my experience in korea (6 months)
Korean eat everything sweet or spicy, so whatever doesn't fit that standard it taste weird for them, and its normal ... but so bad for them because they lose out so much of different food.
I was working ina restaurant (italian) but everything they did was koreanized , so almost no salt because as soon as you put some "its so salty"
Their carbonara was basically tasteless :/ But its nice to know that somewhere they're starting to accept different taste and expand their culinary horizons.
And lol that girl nailed it 100%
The other restaurant should change their sign.. it should be illegal to give so much bad face to italian food with those crappy restaurants that want to sell the name , more than the product. :/

The "pasta Alfredo" is simply a "pasta al burro" (pasta with butter) that the Americans call like that because it had been made famous among the tourists by the Roman restaurant "Alfredo alla Scrofa". Any restaurant does it if you ask it. Simply Italians usually don't go to the restaurant to eat what they do at home if they have no other ingredients left.

Makes me realize how lucky I am to have an uncle who’s a first generation immigrant from Sicily. Came here with no English skills, now 3 years later, he and I are like best friends lol. His family makes lasagnas and homemade noodles, and uncle makes tiramisu and limoncello. And in return, I make them cocktails and teach them English via Scrabble (lmao). I’ve started asking him if he’d make tiramisu for my birthday and he does like every other year. I didn’t even know it could come in cake form. He put it in jars one year, then in a massive baking tin, and now he puts them in tin and plastic hotdog containers. And every year is better than the last. Miss that guy now. Remember also we have more than 500 hundreds types of bread, best wine in the world, over 100 different types of “ salumi “, and I could keep going forever. The fact is simple, there so many dishes and variations even an italian could not know them all. It’s impossible. I think it's important to say that the Koreanized versions of things aren't necessarily "wrong". But the reason that we Italians get so up in arms about our cuisine is exactly because of the reactions in this video. When you have the real, authentic version, it's often better than the adulterated version; there's a reason many of these recipes haven't changed for decades or centuries. But if you like your carbonara with cream, you can make and eat it that way if you like it better. As long as you're at least aware of the original way.

Koreans traditionally have such a limited palette for food. For some reason, they just don't seem to like any food other than Korean food. More than any other nationality, the Chinese and Japanese are so adventurous with food compared to Koreans.
90% of my Korean friends won't stop complaining about how much they miss the food back in Korea event though there's so much Korean food and so much variety here.
