    Good old days of Loco hauled Intercity trains during the 1990s. on VHS videocam footage, before we had digital cameras

    Ideal short 8 coach formation for those railway modellers of the WCML with the 87 at 9.16
    4 x TSO
    1 x buffet
    2 x FO
    1 x BG

    What an interesting start to this video ... 87007 'City of Manchester' dragging an already dead 87029 'Earl Marischal' ... As towed away from here by Parcels Red Class 47/4 no 47575: In the business this at the head was dubbed a 'conundrum' rather than a 'combination!' We then see Class 47/4 no 47467 from Parcels (RES) RXLC duties at Crewe / CD which spent most of 1991 being borrowed by Intercity Cross Country despite the stored IXXS allocation (languishing at Bristol Bath Road at this time) consisting of 47508 / 47509 / 47525 / 47527 and 47555 - all former ICDA Crewe / CD locomotives which were stored in October 1990!
    Also that (unusually short) IWCA formation has a smashed window visible at 9:24 as the final Mk3A FO passes through!!! Finally 11:40 shows a familiar face if one happens to have seen MrDeltic15 in action at Reading (and Oxford) before ... Where 47807 makes another appearance in these excellent videos! Pure nostalgia making me wish I was 27 (at least!) years younger again.

    great shots and sounds - another great collection
    I started videoing in 2004 and was lucky to get some 47 clagtastic action and sounds while applying the muscle when Phil took me to Nuneaton when the drags were operating plus the great sound of a 47 on tick-over

    Very good video Darren. Interesting to see the drags at Nuneaton with 87's and 86's and 47's. Lovely shot of the 47's pulling away and also liked the shot of the 47, DVT and HST in the same shot whilst standing. Enjoyed watching that :)

    During the early 1990s Bank Holiday weekend engineering work led to West Coast Main Line express trains having to terminate at St Pancras with diesel power being provided between Nuneaton and Bedford.

    It was best in the early to mid eighties when it was almost solid 56's with 58's getting involved too from about '84 onwards

    Why do they look like diesels if they are electric ? Or are they both diesel & electric ?

  • @alhumphrey81
    @alhumphrey81 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    anyone know why they were dragged?

    • @MrDeltic15
      @MrDeltic15  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The electrified route between Rugby and Birmingham via Coventry was closed for engineering work, so to keep the service to/from London diesels dragged the electrics between Nuneaton and Birmingham.

    • @angeltransportpjects
      @angeltransportpjects 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The alternative which existed IIRC was to divert services down the Thames Valley Corridor from Coventry and terminate them at London Paddington. Not the preferred option though because of the single track section which lies between Coventry and Leamington Spa as well as Relief Line use for 36 miles between Reading and Paddington. However one working via this alternative route brought a Class 58 into Paddington during 1990 two years before another Class 58 made it into London Euston - both with passenger duties.
