WCML drags at Bedford 1991

  • In October 1991 when the West Coast Main Line into Euston was closed for engineering works, trains were diverted into St Pancras.
    Here we see some diverted trains at Bedford. 1 train was diesel hauled through to St Pancras for some reason?

    Went through there the night before behind 47848/87001. . . Then years later a certain girlfriend told me about a bit of filming by a colleague of her driving the binliners at Bedford in '97 ish, only for me to see it on yt years later. 58005 was the loco. Oooof.

    from an era when we had a joined up railway.
    now in 2024 it would be train canceled get a bus. hardly progress.

    This was obviously done due to lack of overhead wires north of Bedford at the time.

      Correct, and the wires still don't reach Leicester!
