A DREAM LOCATION for Landscape Photography Wales

  • A DREAM LOCATION for Landscape Photography Wales - SPOILT FOR CHOICE! In this video, I head to Ogwen Valley to capture Landscapes whilst trialing my new lightweight tripod. Where do I start?
    Last week I made a 2 and a half hour trip to Gods Country, Wales :)
    My original intention was to photograph an area of the Valley where my pal Jason had recently photographed. I had already scouted the area out with Jason 3 weeks before. This was at the time the beast from the east had attacked the UK. The weather at that time was horrendous. It was too bad for photography so we scouted out a couple of nice areas, this one included. Sadly Jason couldn't make the trip but I was looking forward to it so much I just decided to head there myself. Jason and I have rescheduled and will eventually do a collaboration together in a few weeks.
    Ogwen Valley is a photographers dream. As long as you're prepared for a little bit of a hike, the area is just brilliant. I can safely say it's more difficult to come away with a bad picture than good! WOW!
    I want to return back to the mountain and go further up and look for other compositions. The only negativity with the place is the water cascading down the mountain presents itself as a must-have shot but everyone takes it. Never shy away from the obvious but I always like to put my own stamp on the location too. I suppose this is where the second trip comes into its own. I can't wait.
    I hope you like the video. All comments are welcome

    Gary,
    Always good to see your smiling face and your boundless enthusiasm.
    What a target rich environment you've found, and a pity your mate Jason couldn't make the trip.
    It's good to see your new 'pod is working-out, I recently acquired an RRS TV 34 L and BH 55 head. I have yet to get out as family obligations are currently at the fore, but I'm looking forward to the fall, when I can exercise the new kit in the Great Smokey Mountains Park.
    Keep on keeping on!
    Thank-You,
    Mike

    Hi Gary. Great to see you in my favourite location in Snowdonia ! I defy anyone to go here and not want to return. I visit every couple of months and never tire of the place. Try to visit Cwm Idwal (and Devil's Kitchen above) next time you go. The walk is reward in itself but the landscape is stunning. Re: the fly-by. I was there three weeks ago for sunset shots and as I drove north back to the A55, a C130 did a low pass above me and flew into the sunset over the coast (presumably heading to Valley) - unforgettable !! You've got some fabulous shots there Gary. Can't wait to see the video of your next visit. Many thanks for sharing - great to see a top photographer's take on familiar ground :)

    Beautiful first shot at 2:10 Gary (sublime light) and also the one at 6:29 for me. I'm not overly familiar with the Welsh mountains anymore, but I did climbed a few peaks as a young lad. Is that Tryfan in the background...I did that one! I'm going to stay with family in Snowdonia in the next few weeks over a weekend so this has given me food for thought!

    Thanks Gary, used this as a plan B location today, wanted to be on Snowdon but busy car parks and limited time meant the bus and waiting for it would have taken too much time so, round to the Ogwen Valley and this, very much, tougher than it looks mountain path. What a place though, definitely one to return to and like you, I'd like to go higher than we did but either way, great place, so thanks again for the inspiration.

    • @nicksimpson8114
      @nicksimpson8114 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yes, definitely, I actaully ended up not having the stream in my favourite one, I took it from lower down the path and got a bush / tree on the thirds line, Tryfan and then a sweeping view down Ogwen and up into a nicely lit Idwal bowl. Very pleased with myself, no where near the quality you show but for my novice efforts, it made me very happy with the result :o)

    Brill. I try to do a hill once a week after work in either Shropshire or Derbyshire, then out at weekends. I take my SLR and a 4K 360 VR camera these days.

    Tomasz Janicki took me to that location in May. We were there at the wrong time of day in stunning weather so the images are a bit contrasty but I'll be popping back for one of those Sunsets! Looks like you enjoyed your visit :)

    Great images Gary, had that big canvas oil painting look with all the definition, contrasts and colours. Had you been out with Jason, do you reckon you would have stayed up the top a bit longer?

    • @GaryGough
      @GaryGough  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Scotty, Firstly thank you. Unless I was wild camping I would definitely have returned before it got dark. There were no obvious paths to walk on when you get so far up, that's the issue. 👍 👍

    Nice one Gary - I went there over Christmas when I was back home and thought I'd landed on another planet. Just amazing place and in January it was topped off with the snow on the peaks. I got a few nice images - not as good as yours though! ATB Paul

    Safety is always so relative, I recall waiting half way down a cliff for the moon to come back out from behind a cloud so I could continue to climb down... That's not happening in this century.

    Enjoyed that Gary. I was on the very same ground you've trodden there about a month ago. I hiked up to Ffynnon Llugwy, the little lake behind the summit of Pen Yr Ole Wen. I spent majority of the day walking around there though, had a great time.
    It's not possible to attach images to youtube comments but I have the image on my instagram account @garethkelley.photo if you wanted to check it out. Mine was a big bracketed pano. Made my pc work hard putting it together :)
    Keep up the great work Gary, shame Jason couldn't come with you on this one.
