      Cheers Gary. I'm fairly new to photography and I have watched your videos tirelessly to get advice and ideas. I particularly love long exposure photography where you have lots of content around that which is brilliant. I'm trying to learn my way with landscape and seascape photography where the hardest thing for me is to get my work critiqued so that I can develop. Anyway I'm whittling on. Look forward to seeing your upcoming content. Many thanks. Paul

    Great vlog as always Gary. Six shot panorama - not so easy to say! Love your simple composition explanation - tree, waterfall,... if people cant understand composition from that, then there is no hope. I dont think you need to justify your passion for landscape photography, thats what makes your vlogs so appealing. How boring would it be to be a landscape photographer and not be motivated and inspired by the landscape in front of you.

    Hello Gary, I loved your no-nonsense approach to this vlog. At last, someone has mentioned the obvious which I have been doing for more than 30 years. See what you like, then get a decent foreground for that interest to lead the eye into the scene. It is just that simple. My pal normally laughs at me when he says why do you not photograph that. And I say, it does not speak to me ! He then cannot stop laughing. But I think you know what I mean Gary. As always thanking for sharing your skills and knowledge...

    Err... I have! I've stopped a couple of times on Wrynose Pass and it, like Little Langdale, are great mainly because there are so few people around. Funny when you think the bustling Blea Tarn is only 10 mins away. I like that you feature quieter areas of the Lakes (as long as it does not cause the crowds to flock there - ha ha).

  • @Alan-DPhotos
    @Alan-DPhotos 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice vlog Gary. I have to say though that each waterfall is different and so is the exposure time needed. I'm no pro by any stretch of the imagination but I find that shooting at 1/4 sec for the average waterfall is usually about right but the larger the water mass or flow, the faster shutter speed is needed. It also depends on whether I'm shooting for monochrome or colour. For example a high contrast image on a slow fall may require 1/2 a second or more. Regardless of all that, for me the fun is being out there and experimenting and if it fails then it's a good excuse to go back :-D

    Some big landscapes today. 👍 If your not excited by the landscape you really need to just sit and look at it for awhile if its still the same after 20 minutes go home and do the washing up. .

    Hi Gary. What a cracking location ! I've not spent much time in that part of the lakes so this video has been really helpful and has given me some options for my next trip. Thanks for the tip on shutter speed with running water - I'll try 1/6th next time I shoot a cascade. Many thanks for sharing this really enjoyable video Gary. P.S. Wasn't it good of Pep Guardiola to lend you his scarf !!

      Gary Gough stunning shot! It was me and the wife talking about the image, we both agreed it’s a stunner. Some images resonate and this was one. Photography eh, it’s a wonderful art, how we can all enjoy and have differing opinions, eye of the beholder! Lovely Gary.

    I'm sure it is an unwritten rule that if you are within 5 miles of Blea Tarn you have to visit. If it isn't a rule it should be.
    I'm glad you also mentioned the exposure time for faster moving waters, something I feel many fall foul of when exploring longer exposures where they feel they have to use a 10 stop ND. I'm not saying it does not have a time and place but I am with you about retaining the flow details as it gives so much more energy to the images.

    Hey Gary... Sticking to the basics, confirming what most of us already know, good stuff! It is a constant in most if not all forms of photography. You gave me a laugh earlier on when you thought maybe you tongue tied your words, got it, next! I respect your techniques with your camera setups because it works... I happen to use a leveler attached to the top of my tripod, therefore it does allow for a not perfectly level set of legs. It is made by RRS & I don't particularly care for it. It gets the job done, however, the what looks like a Made in China spirit level is so small, I need my reading glasses on to see it in slightly dim light. It is a well built piece of equip. with a tiny cheapo level, very sad.
    As with most of this companies products, based on my research, this leveler is " under-engineered & over-priced "...
    I pretty much have come to that same conclusion on the Lee Filter Systems as well, that includes their IRND Pro Glass... Times are a changin & either they keep up with those changes, or risk being left behind. That is just my take on it, it is not meant to be gospel.
    Once again Gary, excellent content in this video as I absorbed some nuggets of helpful tips...
    Cheers,
    Bill on the Hill... :~)

    You don't appear to be pivotting the camera around the no-parallax point of the lens. Is there a reason for that? Does it ever give you problems when stitching the shots? I ask because I've just purchased some Sunway gear to resolve the issue of parallax - or have I wasted my money?
