    Nice, thanks for sharing. I only was able to spend one full day in this region in 2021 en route from The Netherlands to Ireland... I'd give the dead tree on the rock at 9:48 a try as foreground when I'm there.

    I went on holiday to Snowdonia and visited most of your locations. My favourites where the Llyn Ogwen Lake area and the Anglesey Barracks and Dolbadarn Castle area.

      Thanks so much Kevin!! It is a place that is well worth a visit, no matter what the weather ... and if the clouds are really down on the mountains, there are also a few locations on Anglesea that are worth a visit.
      Thanks for watching 😁👍

    What a great idea to share 7 epic locations. Without this video i would have never have known about these locations. I recently got back into photography. I watched this video and thought, i have to visit the Roman Bridge at Penmachno. I was not disappointed. After following your footsteps i arrived at the slippery rocks and took what i concider one of the best photographs i have ever taken. I will definitely be going back in the autumn and visiting some of the other locations as well. Thanks you for sharing and taking time to create first class professional content, easy to follow and no waffle vids.

      Is that upright log still there!?

    • @TheStlgg
      @TheStlgg ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mikesphotography Yes, the upright log is still there. To me, it adds to mystery of the photograph. If it gets washed away by the next flood of water i will have a unique photo. I will definitely be going back in the autumn. Anglesea Barracks next...👍

      @mikesphotography  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheStlgg Haha! Good point ... 😁 and like you said, once it is gone, it'll be a unique photo to you!! 👍
      With the Barracks, I think they are filming house of dragons up there at the moment, so make sure to check access before you go ... but if you do get access, it is such a fantastic place to shoot. I was like a kid in a candy store!! 😁👍

    Just to let you know this video was the inspiration for a trip I took last weekend - visited Cwmorthin quarry, the Roman bridge, the teahouse (just a couple of days too late to get the red leaves) Llyn Ogwen / Tryfan, Swallow Falls (looking really dramatic after Storm Babet). Took lots of great pictures with your excellent advice - certainly the best I've taken to date.

      Haha!! I know what you mean... "it's my location and no one else can have it!!" a bit like Smeagol and his ring!! 😆😆
      The other ones that are fun to wind up are the people who get annoyed if anyone else is there... I've had that a few times, and they don't even say hello... so I smother them with kindness, whilst chuckling to myself.

    I just want to take this opportunity to thank you for not only this Video, but all the Videos you made during the last years. As a younger person, the last four years have included quite a few changes in my life, but your videos were always there along the way, and even though i admit i wasn't a subscriber all of the time, i still watched the vast majority of them. And i want to congratulate you on the way your Videos have developed in recent months. You just seem like a genuinely nice and funny guy, your videos more genuine than ever, and while my career has gone in the direction of video work, you somehow managed to get me back into photography in recent time. So just thanks, thanks for the content, and thanks for keeping it going even though you views and sub count might not be what you deserve.
    Ps: This video is perfect for me as me and my A7iii (and the Tamron 28-200, for which you played quite a role in my buying decision) will be going to wales this august, and i've definitely markes all these locations on my travel route ;)

    • @mikesphotography
      @mikesphotography  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for your kind words Felix. I put a lot of effort into my videos on here so it is great to hear you are liking them!
      I've been really focussing on scripting in the last 6 months and it makes the process of filming so much smoother ... I now even have a shot list and work out the locations before even getting there ... although when I do get to a location and the wind is howling or there are a group of tourists there, it does make the whole process a little more challenging... although I much prefer getting out and filming rather than sitting in an office talking to camera. Even though the videos are about photography, I feel like more of a videographer right now!! 😆😆😆
      If you are into hiking and want some amazing views, try hiking up to the top of Y Garn in the Ogwen Valley. It is a bit of a slog but you can see Snowdon, along the Llyn Peninsula, as well as looking over Llyn Idwal and Llyn Ogwen.
      You can see where it is in this video I did about a year ago: th-cam.com/video/Nr03au8HzBY/w-d-xo.html
      And once again, thanks for watching, liking and commenting, much appreciated 😁👍

    Lots of great advice and handy tips but you must bear in mind a number of points. All these locations have been photographed thousands of times over more than a century. Many of the photographers are better than you ever will be. Many images benefitted by better light an weather than you will get. Enjoy exploring and shooting but do not expect a masterpiece. Ansel Adams said that Landscape was the hardest area of photography and frequently the most disappointing.

    Some great locations and really helpful tips as always Mike. Impressed with the pronunciations too. I would have been way off the mark with my attempts! I’ve been to a couple of those locations. Went to Cwmorthin quarry in March on a misty day. Had a fantastic day and there were photo opportunities everywhere. Will definitely look up some of those other locations when I’m next in North Wales

      Cwmorthin in the fog is fantastic isn't it!! I always look to see if I can get up there whenever there is a low cloud day!!

    Another cracking video, have been to Wales numerous times, going back twice later this year, October and November
    Have not visited the first 3 places so will check those out.
    The 4th clip with the lakes is stunning, when you climb the steps and then greeted with the lake at eye level, have been here different times during the year
    Have never been able to get parked at the 5th clip (bridge), will hopefully get the chance next time
    Not heard of the 6th clip or the Roman Bridge
    Next time you go check out Cwmystwyth, another mining area, plenty of ruins and good views and waterfall, have not seen it myself yet but after a good storm there are remains of petrified trees at Borth
    Really looking forward to my next trip now, will try and get to these places
    If I may ask as still finding my feet with this one. If you use a Wide Angle Lens does that not make the scenery look further away than what it is?

    • @mikesphotography
      @mikesphotography  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the tip about Cwmystwyth Robert, I'll be sure to check that one out.
      With a wide angle lens, you are right, it does make the scene look further away, however, with the Ogwen Valley, because the mountains are so big, this negates that factor as they still look fantastic with that wide angle.
      You can still get some great shots with a normal lens and a telephoto at this location, but it is one of the places where you can really get some greqat shots with the wide angle focal lengths.
      I hope that makes sense
      Thanks for watching 😁👍

    Okay, so first of all, with my upcoming trip, this video was PERFECT. I do need a suggestion as to what town to stay in when visiting Snowdonia. There are so many little towns and I am getting overwhelmed. All of these locations seem great. I am really hoping to get the right weather and conditions to bring home some great photos to over-process, lol. I hope all is going great. Have you guys moved yet? Anyway, give my best to your other half and have a great week, brother.

    • @mikesphotography
      @mikesphotography  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much dude!! This was made with you in mind... Now that's what you call tailored content!!
      For North Wales, for a very authentic place, try the Maenen Abbey Hotel for a cheap stay... this is just outside Llanrwst where that red tea house is.
      There is also the Eagles Hotel in Llanrwst and off season this is great value for money. Both of these are really old places and will give you that olde english feel.
      If you want somewhere for yourself for a few days there are a few AirB&Bs in Betws Y Coed. We've rented a couple there and they are great... and just around the corner from the Stables (A fantastic place for a quick bite to eat).
      Then if you want something a little bit more up market, try the Royal Oak Hotel, in Betws Y Coed.
      Hopefully that'll help as a starter!!
      We're all good... moving in about 5 weeks time and then we'll be vagrants until September... which suits me down to the ground as we'll probably end up going for a trip to the Alps.
      I hope you and the family are good dude!! 😁👍

      In Tenby, you have Monkstone around the corner which is a great hidden little bay with a really interesting landscape point into the sea.
      Pembroke has tonnes of locations but I haven't explored that enough yet.
      Then there are the Brecons... try searching for Sgwd Yr Eira after a good bit of rain, that is one of the waterfalls you can walk behind.

      Tryfan is actually one of the peaks I haven't done yet... every time we've planned it, it has been under cloud!! I've done all the others around it but not that one ... maybe this summer...
      The mac loop is not too big a hike so you should be good with that one... and also if you go on the road from dolgellau to Dinas Mawddwy, where there is the pass, they also fly through there and I think there are some gentle hikes up there ... although that carpark at the pass is always busy.

      @@mikesphotography I haven’t done much in Wales but Tryfan was so entertaining that I did it twice, in summer and winter conditions. It reminds me of a stegosaur going down the valley.

Lens choice, safety advice, and parking precautions a plus. Would have been just as useful, but easier to “digest” IMO, if presented in 2 or 3 segments. Haha!! It's my wife's Merc ... If I relied on the youtube money ... I'd be on a 1990's bicycle... with a flat tyre!! 😆
      I'm guessing this will be one that people will bookmark and visit a few times before a trip to NW.
      Good point about rest rooms... Wales in general is pretty good when it comes to those, but I really should have included them.
      Thanks for watching Paul 😁👍

    Hi Mike. Great tips, thank you. However, I am going to have to pull you up on one very, very serious issue. The sausage rolls are not all yours, they are all mine!!

      Haha!! You can get it to yourself... in the weekdays... in the off season... apart from all the Posh Gypsies parked up in their fancy campers, filling all the parking spaces. 😆

    What is your backpack solution in which you can clip the camera on to the strap on your front ?

      I have both the capture clip from Peak Design and the Backpack clip from Ulanzi... I actually prefer the Peak Design one... here's the link: geni.us/PDCameraClip
      I hope that helps.
      Thanks for watching 😁👍
