How to replace the headlight bulb on my Honda GL1500 Goldwing

- 1997 GL1500 ---My headlight seemed to be dim and pointed down really low. I discovered in this video how the adjustment operates for the headlight. I tried adjusting my headlight up and it seemed as though nothing was happening previously but after changing my bulbs, I know the adjustment works just fine now. It's possible the adjuster came off or something. Everything works great now, although the new bulbs don't seem to be much brighter. Sylvia a makes a H4 LED headlight bulb and they are really really bright. I had no real difficulty fitting them. Also the lower power draw is a nice peace of mind benefit as far as putting less stress on the relay and the circuit in general. Great video on how to. You really know your stuff. I saved th video for next time I go in there.

@@herbiesgarage681 I have the same as you, mines color is called Candy Spectra Red, 3957479 R-176C Direct Honda part American Honda Motors. I just scored a 3 pack of the exact factory touch up paint kit! i wish i had a bucket of it so I could match a helmet and re paint the whole bike but i was super lucky to even find this. :0) PLUS i got my 1999 GL1500A with only 75 thousand miles for 1500 bucks!
@@RockAnAhardSpot wow, you got a deal on that. Seems like the bikes I’ve been picking up used are in dire need of maintenance, people just hop on and ride, which is okay I guess that’s why they buy them but I like my bikes in really tip top shape 😁

I put LED's in my 93 aspencade and they are way brighter than any halogen bulb I've used. Nice video, Thank you!
Thank you Mike! I was uncertain on the disassembly and function of the headlight adjustment. I just videotaped it and hoped for the best. I actually am happier with the new bulbs they are brighter but I may go with the LED bulbs like you someday. Thanks for your comment and a big thanks for subscribing 👍🏻

What are the numbers on the LEDs? I'm having trouble finding the conversion. Would LOVE to have more light at night.
@YogiKai Mine are Phillips Beamtech S1-H4 and they are plug and play
I found using a heat lamp pointing at the area where the work will be, makes for a much easier disassembly...makes the parts a little more supple.

Pulled my stock headlight bulbs on my 1999, H4’s will not matchup with alignment tabs. Anyone know what else to try?
Hello Ronald, that’s odd, what does your old bulbs look like that you took out? I wonder if the housing has been modified or something
1998 to 2000 GL1500 need a adaptor plate to fit H4 format bulbs, another way is to cut off the lugs. I believe some Suzuki and Kawasakis also have this problem. Only reason I can think of why they did this is because of heat problems with higher wattage bulbs.
When I did this job I took the mirrors off and refitted them with Allen head screws. Use a extra long ball end Allen key.
i wonder what is wrong, was it like that ever since you got it? I thought mine were weak because I have seen other riders out on the road and there lights are way brighter than mine but also, Mine are way more bright that yours, mine are white and clear. They just are not as bright as some I have seen. i don't have those secondary fog light things but i was thinking of getting them. i wonder if its some kind of power stealing ground wire issue maybe. i mean they are getting power but not enough or something like that. the lights on my yukon are ridiculously dim, it;s a 2001 i was thinking it was the bulbs but when I changed them out the old ones looked fine. the new ones were the same dim as the old ones . it just occurred to me this might be the same problem. I am going to take one of my old ones and hook it up on two wires to the battery and see what happens

What are you screwing onto the windshield by each mirror? A black disk from camera angle…
Hi Habibee, You know I'm not sure what the intended purpose is for those things, other than it kind of keeps the mirror trim from falling loose. My trim has some broken tabs and someone may have put that there so when they hit a bump the trim won't fall down. That's just a guess since they were on it when I bought the bike. Not related to the lighting, any idea how to get into the rear top trunk, it won't unlock stuck closed I guess. Any ideas please 🙏
Hello Terrance, I'll have to investigate that. I know there is alternate holes to access the side bags from the top box but the top box not opening might be a tough one. I'll get back to you

Hello Pastor John, Lol, mine was the opposite, it looked like I was searching for earth worms 😂 If you can’t lower your beam down with the knob on the dash then you may have to remove the headlight and see if the adjust mechanism or cable is bad.

Yeah I knew when I did that I’d get grief over it but it looks fine actually. I should have used cardboard, your absolutely right, no excuse other than I was cold 😁
