There is one thing that helped me out with precise sidestepping, and that is not to hold back before side stepping, just tap or hold back shortly for what is needed to initiate the block animation and then just tap the direction you wanna step, this makes the side step actually come on the first possible frame. I eat a bunch of stuff just because I didn't do that. Best example is nina's d+3,4,3, I know I should SSR but since I was holding back I would always input it a few frames to late and eat it.
I'm not sure if I'd recommend not holding B, afaik some moves can get through neutral guard so be careful. But at the same time, some moves are only punishable if you don't hold B (deathfist at certain distances). I think you can do that as long as you're not getting hit, and if you do resort to holding B. Personally I buffer the sidestep shortly before the block stun ends to get the sidestep asap. Just one tap in any direction around the end of the block stun always does the trick. I'd have to test whether you can get an earlier sidestep if you don't hold B or not. Thanks for the info!
@@anjiruhyure2080 Yeah it is a tricky thing. I don't neutral guard, I always press back, and try not to hold back, (kinda like low parry, you don't hold df you press it, I think :P), since I noticed that for me when I hold back I kinda get stuck there ( panic?) and react much slower. It really helped me out. Second thing also connected to this is that I don't backdash anymore when a opponent starts attacking in a very close range, or when I am back to the wall, since it will be easier for me to eat the low, this way using both of those techniques my reaction times improved online and I am a lot more prepared since I am not focusing or holding back or pressing back rapidly to back dash out of a range where a string just jails :)
I've been playing Tekken 7 for 11 months now. I learned all this and it worked. I made it to Fujin. However, I am stuck in revered-ruler--Fujin. I can't figure out how to beat most Fujin+ players. They also know all this and they seem to be better at it. I think once you make it to Fujin you have to change your playing style. A simple mistake can cost you a round, it's incredibly difficult to win now. What am I missing?
6:39 It's me😅 Even at Eternal Ruler, I fall victim of this...same thing happens with throws and tackles. I know how to break them and I can clearly see them, yet I freeze 🤦🏾
Been stuck in purple ranks, I’m basically stuck because I can’t punish certain flowcharts, and in the back of my mind I know I need to go in the lab. Because kbd into wiff punishment isn’t working anymore.
try working on your side stepping, low parries and duck. most moves are weak to either left or right side step, a duck or have a moment when you can use df to parry lows. for example in law's bread and butter combo, you can duck the first kick and low parry the second. and all mishima characters (heihachi, d.jin and kazaya) are insanely weak to left side step. it neuters half their best moves.
@@jmc2830 umm I know what to duck/low parry and step certain moves, but my reaction time is soo slow that when it happens my mind is like oh should of ducked that or stepped that, hence why I need to lab it soo it’s In muscle memory. I’m old soo I don’t have u young reaction time lol 😂
@@yoshitsune5691 it's not all reactionary, a lot of it is anticipating what's coming next and trying to read what your opponent tends to favor. which just comes with practice. labbing is handy for things that are specifically giving you a hard time, or learning a specific characters weaknesses. but trying to instill beneficial habits in your own mindset and approach can only happen when you actively playing against another person. cpu's don't have habits to take advantage of. i donno, just from what you said i thought it might help. wasn't trying to be a smart ass.

I don't have any clue about frame data and punishing, but still my rank is Tekken God. Because my mindgame is good. Sometimes I do a Hell Sweep 5x in a row against Tekken Gods, I just time it right
Awesome this should help as me and my friend Jacob are getting into Tekken 8 as our first fighting game and since I am using King as my main and he is using Law I think this 8 Tekken Fundamentals guide and how to improve them should really help us out and get a solid foundational knowledge of learning the game
@@Mikokaru thanks. I actually learned it easily on keyboard. If you’re interested: while holding back, alternate quickly between forward and down. Pretty much everything is way easier on keyboard compared to pad.
very helpful video, but question i have, what tekken are you playing on this video? i swear it looks like tekken 7 but what are those stages ive never seen them and i have all the stages unlocked.
Hey. It's only possible on the PC version of the game using mods. This is the mod in question: tekkenmods.com/mod/630/tekken-7-junny-artwork-mod Hope that helps :)
Do you know how helpful you actually are? Great vid dude. Not to sound rude. But everyone has different learning curves. You have done great in speaking for different types. Kick buns dude. I myself can be a fast learner. But can be slow on something's. Or average. I use to be slow at learning stuff. But as I grew older and gained more experience in stuff. I tend to grasp faster than I once did. If this was me back then. Being that I didn't have game knowledge like this or my mind wasn't as sharp as it is now. I would have been extremely slow. Thanks again.
I hate this game i hate the capoera guy i hate the kung fu guy i hate the sweats. I went to practice mode spend hours learning combos for shit. Fuck tekken man. This video is my last effort. If this don't work i'll kms😭
I have been stuck in mentor-brawler for a while now. I watched this and just made it to marauder for the first time! This was so helpful! 😀😀😀😀👍👍👍

As a king, don’t throw us. We have so many more. That is all
But there's no better way to tilt a king player than out grabbing them.
