The most important thing you need to do is put an AI defense block on ALL grids that have weapons, this allows them to detect target out to 2km. Right now, your turrets are targeting and engaging at 800m. If you want Artillery shooting 2km and assault shooting 1.4km, you need the AI defense block. Also, you need a perimeter defense. The first thing they should come across is the weapons. They are easy to replace. Weapons on all sides.
Side note. Your decoy blocks are ineffective by your solar arrays and even on your fighter. Decoys only work when they are detected before other targetable components. (E.g. Weapons, Power, Propulsion. Etc.) That's why the front of your fighter was getting hit and all of the decoys are still intact. A suggestion would be from your base, have weapons built 500m out, with decoys sitting at 1.5km. That would allow the decoys to be targeted while the guns can engage. All before your base is even in danger.
Side note 2: If the weapons are built on separate grids, each grid needs the AI defense block. You could also use the AI block to set off alarms and lights. Having it send a signal to other grids to pass the alarm.
Side note 3: Put an AI defense block on your fighter, your turret on top is rarely ever shooting. Make sure it has target locked grid enabled so when you're locking on or the AI defense block locks on, it will actually shoot.
Side note 4: Using the AI defense block, you could have all over your miners flee to a safe location as soon as they detect a grid with weapons near them. Have it turn off the programable block and run to designated spots. Then, after combat, you can fly over and start their stuff again. It'll give them a chance instead of them flying through combat.

In SE, you can use the long range artillery guns. The next layer consisted of medium range missiles, for this you could use the assault cannons. The last, inner most layer would consist of shoulder launched missiles and/or gatling guns. For complete defenses, you need 360 degree, overlapping coverage. This should be doable, but it WILL be expensive AND time consuming. Some CoFiNi menu items: Lunar Lunch Special - 20 SC. Consist of 1 Sandstorm Sandwich, 1 Reavers Roast and 1 CoFiNi Cake. *Lunch Only* Terran Tacos - 10 SC The Big Dipper - 15 SC (think of this like a 3 scoop ice cream cone.
Shouldn't those layers be the other way around to maximize the utilization of the ranges in all layers? Manpads and such don't do much without additional support, so they should be on the first layer supported by other layers that can still fire way beyond the firs one's range? Please note that I'm not here to argue. I'm here to learn something. (Sad that in today's online culture I have to explicitly state that...)

The long range missiles are the first layer as they have the legs to engage the target far enough out that if they miss there’d be enough time to salvo another round. The mid-range missiles are usually launched around the time that the 3rd salvo is launched to saturate the targets. The short range missiles (MANPADS) are launched last as they have the shortest legs of the entire defense. There are missiles in SE, but iirc, they all have the same range. Don’t worry about it. It takes a lot these days to trigger me and I do understand the desire to gain more knowledge. 😊

An idea for defence could be a heavily armoured brick of a ship that can essentially 'grab' your enemy with a series of magnetic landing gear, and throw it into a large grinding pit. You'd be able to salvage a lot more from your attackers, and use those resources to build heavy armour plating for your base, as the light stuff isn't so viable when put against a massive kamikaze ship. Excellent video as per usual, and thoroughly looking forward to the next one!
You should do a memorial hall for the lost ships. Set up console blocks that dispay the projection of the lost ships and put LCDs with the name. That way, your supporters who lost their ship will be remembered. Then other people have a chance to get one named after them.
Pretty cool vid as always :D When it comes to defences I think it could be pretty awesome if you made like a drone defence, as in when the reapers/enemies come, you could send out a kind of a swarm of smaller attack drones to defend your base. And if possible (I don't know if it can be done) then after the attack, then you could recall the drones to their hangar/storage space.

What space engineer could have, is a silo hatch, like for ICBM A big hatch, that lift a circle up at 90° from its starter position And this game could also, have some others big doors like that, that takes a liittle bit of time to close/open and takes a LOT of ressources, but that are extremely bulletproof

And for how to stop them from destroying everything: the best defense is a great offense, if that doesn't work more guns the American way, lol
There is, with the signal update, using an action relay in conjuction with an AI defense block or control block. Both have actions it can be told to do when targeted and / or when it detects an enemy. This network would tell all grids to take defensive actions (hide or turn on guns or whatever). One thing, though, is that he has ships flying out to the mines, he would have to have an antenna range overlapping the whole area which would in turn attract more reavers, they love antennas. Three options I see, 1. Have large antenna area, 2. Build laser antenna on a satellite so the miners constantly have a signal, or 3. Have a grid constantly resending the hide command on the action relay so miners coming back into range get hit with the signal as soon as they come back towards the bases.
Very good ideas!! I need to implement something like this. I'm sure I can set up something with a continuous "emergency" signal, so maybe next episode I'll give it a go!

This would cover your dead zones instead of bringing the attack to your guns causing even more unnecessary damage. Also add missiles. This time there were only two attacking ships, next time there maybe alot more.
Given the range of weapons, place them slightly less than half range from your protective center, so that you get all turrets capable of enveloping the center. Place weapons in concentric circles, along 8 radial points (NSEW, NENWSESW) on 1 ring then half rotate the next ring. Place decoys in dead space between rings. Not sure you can make mini drones that can engage anything that enters the 500m perimeter. Not sure your max range is, largest I saw 800m. So outer ring at 375m from base. Definitely put more weapons and decoys around the solar array. THANKS for the Croissant!
CoFiNi Menu Item idea... Nuclear Nuggets (extra spicy chicken nuggets). Spicy or salty things typically cause people to buy more beverages to wash them down.. hint, hint. For defense, what you currently have (except for the Main Base) lets the enemy get too close to the structures you're defending before they start firing at them. Setting up a defensive perimeter further out to distract/engage the enemy would help. Turrets and decoys 500M+ out will help reduce damage to the base or outposts if you can take them out sooner. UGH! We got Rick-Rolled in the Karaoke room.
Defense idea: USE DRONES! make a bunch of drones to patrol outwards of 2-5km that will go to murder mode once threat(reaver) is detected. Drones could either be heavy, light, or medium. Light: The mini drones you already have, but a lot more. Medium: Smaller version of the fighter! 2 autocannons and an optional gat.turret. Heavy: Large Smallgrid drone with a bunch of gat.turret and heavy cannon (maybe railguns in the future once the resources are adequate?). (Btw i dont play SE, so all my knowledge is gained by simply watching, so some things may not be as easy as i think they are)

How about a fleet of patrol drones that patrol around your base. You make a mini-base that could make them on demand, maybe even auto-replace them when one is destroyed. And keeping with the coffee them, the base is ‘The Coffee Brewer’!
That's what the little espresso shots were originally intended to do but we never got them fully automated. Maybe next episode I'll take another look at those. Also Coffee Brewer for a printing base is great naming!
Have so many outposts/mini bases seems to be a real downside cause u have to defend so many different and spreaded fronts. One possible solution could be to cetralize your base. so no more valuable mini-bases like PAM and SPAM. Another option woild be of corse more defense systems, like autonomic turrets, heavy weapons like flak or rockets and an alarm system. Especially an alarm button witch tells the important hauler ships to go to their save space could helpt to minimize the damage you recieve by a raid of reavers. (as u mentioned) So like a panic button: setting all lights to red, tell the ships to go to safety, closing all doors, starting defense drone - those are my next idea: this is more an addition to the last idea: you could create a defense drone system: one button to starte some high specialized autnomic drones like longe range (rail gun) drones, kamikaze/torpedo drones, mg drones, drones with disruption fields, drones with only very heavy armor but only decoys and so on. pressing one button and they get ready. because u also would need to implement those triggers who tell the drones where to go and witch base is attacked. this also means u need another atonmatic reproduction of those trones and a ton of work in skripts - but it also means it could end really cool. :D Next option could be to bring the important stuff undererground and only defenses on the surface. i mean it just like in the real world in real wars. but as you could see as SPAM base, this only helps once and after another massive attack suddenly the underground IS the surface. >_> In the end u also could build a much bigger fightig frigatte with heavy armor and tons of auto turrets to bring the turrets to the enemies and not waiting dor the enemies to come to the turrets. :D
The CoFiNi clubhouse needs some localized defense emplacements. It should also be a space station with landing ports for clients to land their ships when they come and stay over.
I would say some AA and Pillbox emplacements (4 to be exact) about 20 - 30 metres away from and each installation.... with a signal system to let you know if it's low on ammo or has enemies spotted to allow you time to react... each with a compliment of gatling and assault cannons as the gatlings will provide a lot of dps, and the cannons will be your heavy hitters... the auto cannons are good but 5 rounds per mag for same cost of 500-1000 round per case of gat ammo... it was tested that the total damage from a gatling turret or fixed works out more efficient and damaging than autocannons.... where as the assault cannons are more for longer range high damage... until you can get hold of rail guns but a missile launch/build system could keep them at bay even if you have some kinetic missiles and some decoy missiles but I think ACS drones don't see decoys, they just target the main ship/structure if i understood what Splitsie said about it before
Idk anything about this game so keep that in mind with what I'm about to say lol. But If possible you should make 2 fast moving ai fighters with 2 of those auto cannons and maybe a faster firing light gun. To drawl attention and to do at least some more damage.
For defense you could do a custom large grid rail gun turret like in your last series just put it on the top of your base and laser them out of the sky
As you were mentioning about supporters getting their names tagged to ships, I think it'd be a neat thing to have a Google Sheet where your supporters could put in their preference to how the ship their name is tagged to is painted. Two colour options, with whatever skin is available. I, unfortunately, due to my bank account standings, cannot be a supporter of anyone for any amount, so I'm out. I had the idea in my head that if I had my name on there, I'd want a totally bright red carbon fibre looking ship. EDIT: Maybe a Google Form to feed into a ship, instead of everyone just being able to edit the ACTUAL sheet
You would also want the majority, of your refining equipment, and storage, to be covered, if not inside. And even make up roof over your pain base docking stations, Just something so they can’t get attacked from above.

You want a central tower for all enemies to attack.
You would ideally, have loads of weapons on this tower.
You would also want the majority, of your refining equipment, and storage, to be covered, if not inside. And even make up roof over your pain base docking stations, Just something so they can’t get attacked from above.
Suggest... AI big guns on all structures. Connect the mini base to your main base.
Less ships mean less moving targets to hit.

Why not give up on the solar panels and just have an engine room, And maybe turn the solar panel location into a turret outpost.
