We live in Iowa, where the number 1 crop is corn! We put several traps in the garage to keep them out of the house. Instead of peanut butter, my husband hot glues a peanut to each trap works REALLY good. Saves on peanut butter!
Hey, that’s quite a good idea. I’ve never heard that one before. Makes good sense- it would be hard for them to come off easily. Definitely will try this. I live way out in the county so field mice are a problem- even w/ my cat. And Orkin can get expensive.
To anybody who's reading this, I pray that whatever is hurting or whatever you are constantly stressing about gets better. May the darks thoughts, the overthinking, the doubt exit your mind right now. May clarity replace confusion. May peace and calmness fill your life
When we moved into our house 40 years ago it was over run with mice..we caught 23 mice in the first couple days.. after dark my husband walked around the perimeter of the outside of the house while I was in the basement with a flashlight..I shined it along the place between the house and the concrete wall of the basement..my husband could see the light where there were openings between the foundation and house and stuffed steel wool in the holes..we've never had another mouse..they won't chew through steel wool..we also sprayed foam sealer along the barrier if the entire basement to keep insects out
Steel wool saved my apartment from a rat that routinely entered in under the small gap under the front door. Then I got a sweeper installed on both sides of the door.
I spray lavender and peppermint oil and that's what got rid of mice and bedbugs! It works but you have to keep it going! For fruit flys apple cider vinegar in a shallow bowl or lid with Dawn original just a couple drops!
@@carolynanderson94 all over on my floor and along the floor boards! Also I seen a idea online for flies mosquitoes and yellow jackets put in a shallow bowl shampoo ( any kind ) with cider vinegar then stir it up then top it off with olive oil. The vinegar and shampoo attracts them and the olive oil collects on their wings so they can't get away. Now I haven't tried it but it makes sense!
I use in a spray bottle: warm water, dish soap and peppermint oil. It works!! Mainly for spiders our yard is surrounded by trees and bushes so they get in somehow.
Lavender works for keeping mosquitoes at bay . My grandbaby girl and I use a lot of lavender baby lotion when we are going outside and we don't get bit by the little buggers anymore. A friend told me about it after she went to purchase some lavender oil and could not find anywhere that was not sold out . Someone at the pharmacy in our county told her to try the lotion and she did. It worked great for her so she told me and I swear by it and so does the baby girl .
I am a mosquito magnet. I will definitely try this. Two years ago I used a lawn service for a couple of years that sprayed for mosquitoes. I sat out one night on the deck and saw there were lighting bugs all around on our neighbors' lawn ... but not ours. So sorry for that ecological mistake. We nixed the lawn service immediately.
It seems that no one had mentioned this and I’m really surprised. Not many of these plants mentioned will do anything as just a plant. The volatile oils and terpenes need to be removed from the plant, often distilled and then put in the areas of possible entry to your home etc.
No... Grow mint outside in your flower beds and hanging baskets. It does work. I don't have mosquito issues. Mint is perinial plant and it will come back every spring.
Bay leaves as well is the cousin Myrtle leaves will do the same. Myrtle leaf is great to keep flees away from pets. Just the dried leaves in their bed will do wonders. But they need replacing often. Do not underestimate the dried plants.
@@funnythat9956 I can verify that peppermint oil does repel mice and rats. However, you have to use pretty high concentrations of it and as such it's not indoor safe. Better to make or buy peppermint oil and use a jar with holes drilled into it and a sponge inside to put the oil on. It lasts a while that way and has a chance to actually work. I tried this with several jars around my front porch and it did work, until it dried out.
The very best mosquito repellent I've found is garlic oil. I've taken two capsules twice a day for years, haven't been bitten once since I started doing so, and have actually watched the little vampire ladies touch down on my legs, then lift off again without attempting to bite. And I live in Texas, where the mosquitoes are big and feisty!
We have horrible wasp problems every summer. I find using dryer sheets in the back of my mailbox and in ornamental garden items really keeps them away. Works here...Worth a try.
@@mariarodrguez4731 Be sure to use ONLY PLAIN SUGAR (no honey, no brown or powdered sugar, etc.) mixed with plain water and no red food coloring in your hummingbird feeders and replace the water every week. This is VERY IMPORTANT according to an extensive research done by a group of experts.
@@mariarodrguez4731 One year I had the same problem. You can get wasp traps that, basically work like hummingbird feeders. They are a golden yellow color (which they are more attracted to and hummingbird are not). You use the same sugar to water ratio as for the hummingbirds. The difference is that the wasps get into the feeders and can’t get out. I have two and hang them in the same areas as my Hummer feeders. You will be amazed at how many wasps will end up in there. Empty it every other day or so. The hummingbirds won’t be affected by the wasps anymore.
I had lits of wasps in my attic every year for twenty years. Since April 2022 I used lavender oil in water and sprayed it near the window in the attic where the wasps normally come in. No wasps in the attic for the last two years! I refresh the lavender scent near the window once per month. I hope it will work for the years to come. Another observation: I burned a bay leaf in a room with a large wasp that was coming in the room during winter. The smoke killed the insect nearly instantly.
Good information, have tried one more, add neem oil to some camphor and pour into earthen small lamp pots and insert a wick light them up. This wards of mosquitoes!
With some experimentation, I have found that you have to use essential oils and not the plants. I use peppermint oil, lemon oil, lavender oil and tea tree oil mixed with water. I spray it around my doors, my patio, my outside storage and myself and it seems quite effective at keeping out spiders, ants, roaches and mosquitoes. Just be really careful about dogs not getting into it or locking it off because it can be toxic….mainly the lemon oil, I think. I don’t have any mice, so I can’t help you there.
You are so right the OIls Organic Essential oils works really well. Used organic Food grade Peppermint essential oil with a little distilled water mixed together in a spray bottle sprayed on roaches works soooo much faster and better than roach spray. I wasn't sure it was going to work but it does.
I'm sure other dried foods would work, but in the Southern US, people put out little dishes of uncooked grits for the ants. The ants eat the dried grits, then when they drink water, the grits expand and the ants explode. Southerners try to assure me that grits are non-toxic if used according to directions. 😏
I am saving this video since I have problems with spiders, ants, and mosquitoes and don't want them on my property and in my home. I also have to tell my family and friends about these products so they can also use them.
I use peppermint oil and eucalyptus oil in a defuser and the ants stay away. It was the only thing that worked where I live. It helps with sinus congestion also. It's a win win!
Lol it's BS anyway I had a mouse problem under the kitchen sink. It took the dryer sheets chewed the dry permit leaves and made a bed. Not even peppermint oil worked. Lol
I have spread regular black pepper around my vegetable and flower garden to keep rabbits, squirrels, and deers from eating the plants and flowers and it really works! The only inconvenience is that you have to repeat the process at least twice weekly or more during rainy days to keep the black pepper strength going.
The mint worked on an ant nest in one of my gardens plots. The nest was evacuated within 24 hours. I also found that the electronic sound boxes only stop the mice/rats from nesting nearby, it doesn't stop them from entering your property looking for food. The best way to rid the property of rodents is to remove all food stuffs such as bird seed, dog food left outside, compost boxes and put garbage in a sealed metal container not plastic. I live near a port city and rats are just part of the deal! Love my neighborhood cats ! 😁
I've used a fresh dryer sheet in my pocket and/or attach one to my shirt when I'm sitting outside or working in the yard late. This absolutely works to keep the mosquitos away when I don't need/use Yard guard. I'm going to try the lavender oil...(I use lavender in a burner with peppermint oil to help me sleep when I have a migraine). Thanks for this video :-)
@Krystal Henry Yes... I met someone that used and told me about the dryer sheets method. It does work. My experiment with the lavender oil was successful but I prefer the dryer sheets for working outdoors .
You forgot diatomaceous earth. I use this and it works! Sprinkle it thickly on mattresses, rugs and any surface that is infested. The only problem is that it must remain 'in situ'. Not a problem on hidden areas but can be unsightly.
Great information! I have found that after trying many different natural options, diatomaceous earth keeps ants away. I put it between the carpet and baseboards. I have not had 1 ant since. 😁
If you have mosquitoes, they most likely grew in your yard, or an adjoining one. Check regularly for anything that holds standing water. If there is none, look around your neighbors' yards, and you can usually find the source. If they grow in water you can't drain, there is a virus that only attacks mosquito larvae. Drop a pill of it in the water every few weeks. If you can encourage bats, or are lucky enough to be near running water -- where dragonflies spend their "nymph" days, then emerge as super mosquito fighter jets -- these are among the safest mosquito controls ever designed.
Gab3 - They may not be the solution to your bug issues, but all three of those can be a solution to a lot of personal ones. All three have therapeutic value, for physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies. If you should ever feel unbalanced, just crushing a leaf of any of these and inhaling the aroma may prove useful. In the aromatherapy classes I took, no matter how many choices of oils you may have to chose from, the standard was: "When in doubt, use Lavender." It is calming and has a range of medicinal benefits. It is one of the many things I like about Seattle: Lavender everywhere!! Rosemary may be calming and uplifting at the same time, and has a range of benefits. Basil is one of the two most uplifting herbs I've ever encountered. I get a similar effect from crushing a basil leaf and inhaling the vapor as some cats get from catnip. All this to say, you have some nice herbs, there, bro. I like diatomaceous earth and ortho boric acid ("Roach-proof") for baseline control of insects in the home and garden. Regular borax and also baking soda can work well in some places. There are non-toxic bug traps and sticky strips. When all else fails, insect baits are my final insult to 6- and -legged creatures.
@@TampaDave we don't have standing water, the neighbors do though. Lots of people around here with water features that they don't maintain. Plus, it's oregon, lol.
I notice that peppermint oil is in alot of dog shampoo and spray for tick & flea repellent is it OK to use those or should I not if it's bad I have small dog.
How do you check for animal tolerance? Is the essential oil labeled, can you find asswer on Google. Ot do you have to try it and just see what happens? I refuse to use my sweet girllike a lab rat!
My house was recently attacked by rats. I am going to try these tips. Hoping that they will help. These are amazing simple tips. I never thought of them and have been using chemical-based repellent. Egg shells keep lizards away that’s what I know that I have tried and it worked. Thank you so much for sharing!
Maybe you have big lizards, we have some geckos, not too large, but also anoles. I welcome those smaller lizards to hang outside my windows & doors for they are natural mosquito, gnat, & fly eaters. If I find any inside I try to get them back out to work or let them hide & hunt inside. These lizards sure don’t want to be near me or my dog-just looking for bugs!
We had that problem in the ceiling. Purchased two ultrasonic devices, put them in the ceiling via an extension cord and two hours later they were gone. I removed the devices to see how long it would be before they returned. Well that was three months ago and still no sign of them.
I've used peppermint oil mixed with dish soap and a little water to dilute it into a sprayer and I haven't had ands for 3 weeks now. I get occasional stray ants and spray them on the spot.
Peppermint oil does work for spiders, also mothballs do wonders for mice and spiders. Just put one in each corner of your house/ rooms, also on the outside of your house, windows or cabin. I live in the mountains in a cabin and yes those remedies work.
I grew up in an old house (> 100 ur old) & mice always seemed to get inm We tried mothballs. The mice ate them but at least that killed some of them...
Peppermint plants outside are great and work to keep mice away yet they attract cats so you need to add a different plant to keep them away as well 💖it works!’ And smells great
SO...THAT'S why every cat in our area comes to my house. 9 yrs ago, a female cat went into our (open door) garage and gave birth to 6 beautiful kitties. I fell in love with her and made her mine. unfortunately, she brought her "hubby" with her. but....We fed them all, I named my babygirl, Cleopatra and the Tom, Smokey. We waited for her to wean the kittens before getting her spayed....too late...2nd litter came fast. We found homes for ALL the kittens. Smokey got sick and died within 1 yr. He was fairly old when he found us. Cleopatra died last summer. Jun 15th, 2018. I miss her so much. anyway, I have catmint, spearmint, peppermint and chocolate mint all growing in a side flower bed. And...the only one I planted was the chocolate mint. On a warm day, the smell drifts over and sooths my soul. I love putting peppermint in my Earl Grey tea.
@@Pridegriffin What a beautiful story for a beautiful soul. Lady Luck smiled upon you on that fateful day 9 yrs ago. Smokey sounds so endearing as well as the rest of the lot. I guess I need to plant some mints around my garden.
@@Pridegriffin Interesting. A stray pregnant cat came to our home so we had to care for her. We have 12 acres so she loved hunting and eventually we ended up with 13 more in all. So we ha her spayed. We also named her Cleopatra. She would come inside and sit next to me for about an hour then leave and stay outside until next morning. At times she sit and watch me from the window sill but won't come in. Funny cat!
@@Pridegriffin we had cats show up around our house but we already have two cats so when a litter of kittens showed up at our doorstep, we gave them to one of our friends who found homes for them.
Peppermint extract or Tea takes the place of the peppermint oil. You just add the extract to water in a spray bottle or brew some peppermint tea let it cool then pour into spray bottle. The only con is if you spray it outside, when it rains you need to reapply it. You could tear open some tea bags and sprinkle the loose tea and wet it & that lasts thru a couple rains.
I can testify for pepper. mice kept eating my AC condenser wires and I had to call the AC repair to retire the damage. Finally I sprinkled hot chili pepper powder around the inside and the outside of=f the compressor outside and no problems that year. So I do it once every winter and haven’t had a problem. Also I use it around planting’s, recycling containers kept outside and that kept mice away too. Cheap and excellent and safe.
Sorry i kept eating your AC condenser wires...i've finally got myself a nice apartment and stopped eating cheese. Sincerely, -The mouse that ate your condenser wires
Thank I will try the garlic and pepper because I don't care for cat and I know they will take care of the rats,my neighbors are not very clean si its a weekly battle with me.
If #6 actually worked the spiders would just move to another location in your house. Best way to get rid of pests is finding the holes they can enter and seal them up.
True, I went crazy with caulking the first year because no one caulked the floor molding... ants were just coming in from everywhere. Once I caulked, no more ants
Some good stuff here, nice to use natural methods where necessary. You got to remember that one application is not enough, you must be vigilant in your quest. I personally like some spiders in my home, when they get too much or are spotted by non arachnid lovers, I pick them up (try to get the male and female) and place them on my patio plants outside. They continue to do their thing with the visiting bugs. As for rodents, prevention is better than cure. Closely examine under eves and around pipes and ensure ALL holes are filled or stuffed with steel wool. Keep food well wrapped and sealed and check pantries regularly for incursions. I cleared all the mice using peanut butter in traps (I didn't like killing them, but it was freaking out everyone else). If they have no food or water source they cannot stay inside. As with spiders, ants do no harm so don't go crazy. If they are in my home, I just vacuum them up, simple.
Yeah i had some body wash a few years back that was given to ME and it had lemon tyme in it and i never got bothered by mosquitos or gnats all day until i ran out of it then they lit ME up with bites but i know lemon tyme works i stumbled on that by accident but i was glad to have done so tho idk about the rest of the tips but I'll look into trying a few anything is better than nothing and sometimes nothing is better than the chemical sprays that irritate the eyes ,nose skin and is unpleasant to the point that it repels you too. .
Anthony Hamilton Do you recall the name of the body wash? Everyone in my home are severely allergic to mosquitoes. Don't like to resort to chemical sprays etc.
Are you close to any health stores? If so, they have a lot of soaps made with lemon or lemon thyme. I have lemon thyme plants, lemon grass and lemon balm around my back patio and I don't have many problems with mosquitoes. And if they are being a pest I just rub my rosemary or lavender plant or both and rub it on my skin. I smell good and the mosquitoes leave me alone. The lemon plants are great for keeping the spiders away too.

Mix Boric acid and brown sugar 1:1, spoon a bit outside or in the house. The brown sugar attracts them. I use small plastic bottle caps inside, and outside usually just dump a small pile in various areas. Repeat weekly for 3-4 weeks to catch the newly hatched ones. Will take out most roaches, perhaps not as effective on the small American roaches, but the bigger waterbug types will be disappear in days. If new construction, prior to drywall or enclosing the studs, buy lots of it and sprinkle generously on the foundation or boards to be enclosed.
Watch the boric acid.. it causes u to lose sight . Wear masks when using n thow the away after each use. Look it up i was shocked what it does to ur vision..
Citronella plant is a good one for keeping mosquitoes away. All you have to do is set the plant on a table or deck outdoors, or plant it in the ground if you like... It's also popular enough right now that the oil is being added to candles and oil for torches (obviously for outside! Lol).
@@danbee6653 Borax does, it freezes their exoskeletons and if they cannot molt they die. They lick it off and spread it into the areas they live. Really works, haven't seen one since I moved in here which turned out to be roach heaven. Shudder. I take the time to sweep it into floor cracks and under wall gaps which takes care of any bug with a hard shell covering. Be sure to put a lot under and on top of your dish washers. All insects need water and if they don't have easy access they do leave.
Thank you for all of this handy natural info! I have used Cinnamon to get rid of ants in my home. At the entry point and along the trail. I also used it in and around my outside trashcans to keep them away.
Try table salts outside the home, in pantry closets or where ever the unwanted go. I use it specifically as a ant deterrent. It has worked. Now for the flies and mosquitos.
@BRIGHT SIDE-I just want to say that, while I appreciated getting more info than I expected about repelling pests naturally, the title of this video is deceptive...making it look like there was a single plant that could do all of this! In fact, a title change (like: "17 Natural Pest Repellents"), could actually create even more interest! Just sayin'...Thx for encouraging non-toxic solutions ☺️🌿
Try laurel (bay) leaves. Fresh, dry or crushed and minced placed in every inaccessible place in your kitchen or else and you won't see a roach or ants anymore.
I use dryer sheets for insect repellant, I also use, used coffee grounds around my house on the outside, I don't have any problems with insects. Use the borax, sugar, and water for my walls and counters where they meet, I apply it with a q tip. Works great. Steel wool in holes going outside no nice. I live in the mountains in NC.
here in SE/gulf of Texas they laugh at you & say "nice try" while they morph into a hybrid species that specifically flies into your hair when you walk out the front door & then they laugh at you some more
Boric acid mixed with powdered milk, spread around the outer perimeter of your house and roaches with eat it and die before they even get in the house.
ultrasonic traps made me ill, (headaches, dizziness, nauseas, brain fog) as soon as I realised what it was I got rid of them and immediately got better.
the most common plant used against mosquitos is the citronella plant. and a great way to rid your home of mice and keep them away is to get a pet hamster, FYI - they are a natural predator of mice - know this works because until I got one as a pet my parents tried everything, without success, to get rid of mice - they just disappeared after I got "Hammy" : )
Citronella plant works great for mosquitoes. The active ingredient is used in many commercial insect repellants. Plant a few of these around the house to keep mosquitoes out.
Boil a handful of cloves in a liter of water. Spray it where the mice enter or stay. It worked for me very well. I spray about every other day. No mice problem anymore
@@coiledsteel8344 my problem is my neighbors throw trash out her back door and people around me only cut their grass when they can nolonger see their house.
The best thing that kept the mice away was our beloved cat, Blizzard. When mice got a whiff of him being in the home, we haven't seen a mouse for 12 years. When he died we still didnt see a mouse for a couple of years after but then they started to return. Peanut butter on a sticky helped us this time.
I have never used poison ☠️ on our property. I do not have a bug problem. By not mass killing all bugs, I have increased my predator bugs. I have loads of birds feeders as well. Birds eat the bugs. In the Spring, the sparrows eat the spiders. Use nature, the best trick of the gardening world.

SuperLisalis Did you watch the video? There are a few that rid them. Also a trick I've learned from living on a farm. Rats and mice LOVE peanut oil. Place enough peanut oil in a large bowl overnight. Not too much as to drown them but enough to entice. They cant resist and jump in the bowl but can't get out. The next day all you need to do is transfer them into another bowl with water and a drop of dishwashing liquid. Then Let them dry and find a new place to "rehome" them away from your home. Good luck!
"You dont want to drive them outside because they have no place else to go do you?" Actually I do want to drive them outside and dont care if they have no place else to go. But the owl that hangs out by my house will give them someplace to go, owl dinner plate
Loved this one! Thank you for not using the annoying computer voice! I would never subscribe to one of those. I have bought the ultrasonic Repellent, when I lived in a fourth wheeler. Never do this. They have chemicals in them that can damage your nervous system. Also, dangerous through inhalation. Affects central nervous system. The chemicals will get absorbed through the dermis and enter your bloodstream. Dangerous. Never use them in the dryer either. They are very toxic. Carcinogenic and contain neurotoxins. My nervous system was damaged from them, still recovering after 3 years. They are unregulated and EPA says they contain hazardous waste materials, which they do. Just trying to warn people...so they don’t get sick like I did.
Thankfully the house I live in now is clean and neat, but one of the old houses I lived in had a mice problem, I ve tried everything at that time, the only thing that worked was a combination of ready oreintal incense , the burned smell of oregano, and Arabian gum together.
Nadia Subri Peppermint oil definitely works too. But you have to wear gloves when handling it. Soak cotton balls with it and toss in area where they live and they will evacuate. Used it in vaults at work to get rid of rats and at home to rid of mice beginning nest. Smell lasts for months.
@@h2oquality2010 Rats keep trying to get inside my home, even in the roof. When I hear them, I turn on my essential oil diffuser with peppermint, eucalyptus, or tea tree oil. At night, I have even used the lavender oil, and it's really strong, so no rats! Use only 100% pure essential oils! Have a wonderful day!
I moved into my townhouse 4 years ago and have been using the same ultrasonic repellent since I moved in. I know it is still working because the light is still on and I have not seen one mouse or mouse droppings. This was the best investment ever. It does not keep bugs out though. I wished it did. COOKING PEPPERMINT FLAVORING IS NOT AS EXPENSIVE, JUST DOES NOT LAST AS LONG. I SLID A DRYER SHEET WITH OIL UNDER THE FRIDGE, THAT CRITTER RAN OUT AND GONE.
Sonic repellers don't work against mice at all. I've had mice that won't take peanut butter or anything else in a trap. I'd hear them right next to where the traps were. Couldn't figure out a way without poison to get rid of them. I searched TH-cam for noisy cat fights, played them at maximum volume in every location I heard them and it was another year before I had any sign of mice. It worked again when they got in a few months ago. Surprised the heck out of me the first time I tried it. Now I just need to find a way to keep mosquitoes away - apparently I turn DEET into a tasty treat, tried the DEET bracelets and the little DEET fans as well, they're a complete waste of money for me, too.
Well, I don't know about mice... But I planted mint in my garden at my last house. When I heard ants didn't like it, I started transplanting it all over my yard. I never actually saw mice but Ants would building their mounds right up against a cluster of mint plants. Spiders were all over the place as per usual. And moles would tunnel right through the roots of the mint plants....
My spiders must be a bit tougher than most,I have mint with a widow spider living with in it... To discourage mice and spiders use peppermint essential oil...👍
the best thing I do that really works is using dehydrated crushed red pepper. I have a separate coffee grinder and grind crushed red pepper and use a hand held electric fertilizer spreader to spread the ground pepper around my house to keep mice out. It also deters squirrels (and rabbits). If you fill the hopper of the spreader with ant repellent granules and mix the ground up red pepper with it before you spread it around your house, you won't end up dumping the red pepper to quickly and it will spread more evenly, also keeping ants out of your house. I use two different types of ant granules mixed to together. But I just buy crushed red pepper in a 5 pound bag and spread that by itself with a smaller opening in the hopper. Cat owners know how great cats are at catching mice.
I don't think it's borax, it's Boric Acid powder that works against bugs. I used it when I first moved into an apartment in Manhattan -- I got one of those plastic squeeze ketchup bottles, and used a knife to cut further down the pointy opening (making it larger). Then I crawled around the perimeter of the apartment, squeezing the bottle and poofing the powder into the space between the floor and the wall. Then I poofed the powder into the spaces between cupboards and the walls, around electric outlets -- and anywhere where pipes come through the walls. At first I thought it was useless, because it seemed to do nothing. Give it a week or so. The next week when I vacuumed, I vacuumed up tons of dead pests. Triumph! I hardly saw another one in the whole 12 years I lived there.
Borax mixed in peanut butter. Works well for rodents. I also mix a spoonful in a spray with bleach and water to keep Pharoah ants away (multi family building)
@@maryfralixlanier13 You see it on the label of the package! If its Food grade or Human grade... Also, if you buy it in the shop for health minded people (there it will be more costly of course). Do not use the cheap sorts used for cleaning of pools. What is it: its essentially shells of silicon-shelled algae whom lived centuries ago, and now are dust. Humans eats it as an excellent source of silicone if they think they need more silicone. But the point is, the sharp endings of the shells, harmless to mammals, cut the intestines of insects and worms... Deadly for them, or at least harmful for them. For humans, its most often sprinkled on youghurt or similiar. But I presume its ok to use in scrambled eggs. The nutrient value will remain of course, but my guess is the deworming value remains too.

When we moved into our house 40 years ago it was over run with mice..we caught 23 mice in the first couple days.. after dark my husband walked around the perimeter of the outside of the house while I was in the basement with a flashlight..I shined it along the place between the house and the concrete wall of the basement..my husband could see the light where there were openings between the foundation and house and stuffed steel wool in the holes..we've never had another mouse..they won't chew through steel wool..we also sprayed foam sealer along the barrier if the entire basement to keep insects out
This also keeps out squirrels
Steel wool saved my apartment from a rat that routinely entered in under the small gap under the front door. Then I got a sweeper installed on both sides of the door.
I spray lavender and peppermint oil and that's what got rid of mice and bedbugs! It works but you have to keep it going! For fruit flys apple cider vinegar in a shallow bowl or lid with Dawn original just a couple drops!
where did you spray it at/on
@@carolynanderson94 all over on my floor and along the floor boards!
We are never more than six feet away from spiders at any given time. Maybe up in outer space...
How did you apply or use the lavender oil? Please I live in a wet area where water runs down through my yard it always stays wet up here
I have some of that..... going to start using it. Thanks!
There are many useful bugs that sadly go the way of the lightning bugs, not to mention hummingbirds, etc that feed on the contaminated ones.
Crushed leaves of the Beautyberry plant also work as an insect repellent.
It seems that no one had mentioned this and I’m really surprised. Not many of these plants mentioned will do anything as just a plant. The volatile oils and terpenes need to be removed from the plant, often distilled and then put in the areas of possible entry to your home etc.
and even as oils they are ineffective
No... Grow mint outside in your flower beds and hanging baskets. It does work. I don't have mosquito issues. Mint is perinial plant and it will come back every spring.
yeah I was looking for that plant and come to find out it is the essence oil deal....grrr
Is it because you smell like garlic? No offense. Just curious.

We have horrible wasp problems every summer. I find using dryer sheets in the back of my mailbox and in ornamental garden items really keeps them away. Works here...Worth a try.
How does it repell them?
I have hummingbird feeders and they can never feed because of wasp taking over the feeders I'll try that.. Thanks

I got plenty of lavender, rosemary, and basil, doesn't do that much honestly
Rosemary needs to be freshly crushed or made into a spray
I agree with you. I have rosemary plants (which I like to add to my dishes) in my greenhouse but still have a lot of mosquitos.

If #6 actually worked the spiders would just move to another location in your house. Best way to get rid of pests is finding the holes they can enter and seal them up.
True, I went crazy with caulking the first year because no one caulked the floor molding... ants were just coming in from everywhere. Once I caulked, no more ants
Are you kidding? My house is so old it probably kookie like swiss cheese under the siding and floors.
Il like your ideas give us more .this is brelent thanks again.

Peppermint OIL seems to work ok, as a wasp repellant, heard it works on mice as well, but not the plant...
I want to keep wasps away as I’m allergic but I keep mice as pets :/
Also I have a spider under my bed 😭
@@luckalucka944 Mothballs repel wasps. I put them in my shed every spring.
Lemon grass (aka fever grass) is also a good repellent
Lol...we Indians using this since so many years ago....well i hope u guys learn more about my country...
A great and big love to everyone from india 🇮🇳...
sowmyukth kumar *yep, we do*
Namaste. how does one humanely rid rat prob please.
supersmart brainy buggers, they r.with awful sense of humour.
I*m at end of my tether.
please..may..you..advize.
💙💜💙💜💙💜
SuperLisalis Did you watch the video? There are a few that rid them.
Also a trick I've learned from living on a farm. Rats and mice LOVE peanut oil. Place enough peanut oil in a large bowl overnight. Not too much as to drown them but enough to entice.
They cant resist and jump in the bowl but can't get out.
The next day all you need to do is transfer them into another bowl with water and a drop of dishwashing liquid. Then Let them dry and find a new place to "rehome" them away from your home.
Good luck!
"You dont want to drive them outside because they have no place else to go do you?"
Actually I do want to drive them outside and dont care if they have no place else to go. But the owl that hangs out by my house will give them someplace to go, owl dinner plate
😂😂😂 you are funny. Who gives a flying if they don't have anywhere to go!! Just get out of MY house. 😂😂😂 I love it!
Amen!
The spiders will be like oh so you dont like me i wont get rid of pests for you then

Love those who-birds!
Now I really wanna get this stuff for my house when I grow up
Very informative. Thank you. Oregano is also a good mosquito repellent.
Loved this one! Thank you for not using the annoying computer voice! I would never subscribe to one of those.
I have bought the ultrasonic Repellent, when I lived in a fourth wheeler. Never ever saw a mice. Yet, there was a kitty in the neighborhood that would catch one once in a while and liked leaving it as a gift for me outside!
That a 5th wheel ma'am I could b wrong mabe u lived in your car? Yep a car has that 4th wheel . My 1st son was born in a 5th wheel .I w never forget jumping in the 4th wheel (car) rushing to hospital! Lol love y'all
*Ultrasonic pest repellents don't work against mice. They get used to the sounds and eventually ignore them.*
I've tried the eucalyptus and peppermint and it's like magic. 😀👍🏾
I used dry sheets rubbed onto my skin at outside events to repel mosquito bites
WORKS WONDERS👊
And it keeps the bees/wasps away too.
Thanks for the warning!
John JohnG Doubt it, but rather safe than sorry. 😐
Thankfully the house I live in now is clean and neat, but one of the old houses I lived in had a mice problem, I ve tried everything at that time, the only thing that worked was a combination of ready oreintal incense , the burned
smell of oregano, and Arabian gum together.

Rats keep trying to get inside my home, even in the roof. When I hear them, I turn on my essential oil diffuser with peppermint, eucalyptus, or tea tree oil. They disappear fast because it affects their noses..
To prevent it, I keep the long running 6-8 hour diffuser on, but that racks up money on essential oils, but whatever it takes. At night, I have even used the lavender oil, and it's really strong, so no rats! Use only 100% pure essential oils!
Have a wonderful day!
cookiemama4 Yes it works! I only use pure oils from health food store as well. You have a great day too!
cookiemama4 Thank you for all your advices. The peppermint seems to work very well against them.
@
Peppermint, orange peals, & vinegar are natural repellents. Bay leaves keeps ants away. Cedar wood oil is great, too.
Loved this video & all these non chemical products. What can we do about SCORPIONS 🦂🦂🦂???
Lavender plants are used in Italy to stop scorpions plant them in boxes on window sills
your video is good sir, your efforts and spending time on making video is appreciable. thanx a lot.
Patchouli! It repells moths and other bugs from eating your clothes in the wardrobe. Also red cedar wood oil for same purpose!👍🏻
Patchouli also repels some people. lol
I've heard that the Yarrow plant is excellent at keeping bugs away, maybe even better than deet!
I moved into my townhouse 4 years ago and have been using the same ultrasonic repellent since I moved in. I know it is still working because the light is still on and I have not seen one mouse or mouse droppings. This was the best investment ever. It does not keep bugs out though. I wished it did. But great for mice.
Could you please share the name of the brand you got?
Interesting video, I can confidently say a black snake took care of all my mice problems in the garage. Just remember to look for him/her as you come and go from the garage.
thank you for these cool ideas. we've had a mouse problem for years. I use peppermint oil but it tends to get very expensive to keep buying. I will put some peppermint plants in my home. thanks again.
Use onions
You can buy cheap peppermint oil that is designed to repel mice, a lower grade. It works really well but you have to keep up with it.
Hahaha.... I tried sperement chewing gum! It caught rats and mice we'd gotten in home during construction! Good luck
Someone said put a piece of bacon sticking up out the peanut butter to get the mice to put the trap snapper.
Got mint in the garden, maybe I will boil some and put it through carpet cleaner. I usually use lemons as the stains come straight out.
My spiders must be a bit tougher than most,I have mint with a widow spider living with in it... To discourage mice and spiders use peppermint essential oil...👍
I already own basil. I love basil, it’s awesome!!!!
the best thing I do that really works is using dehydrated crushed red pepper.
Borax does, indeed, work. I know from personal experience.
Borax mixed in peanut butter. Works well for rodents. I also mix a spoonful in a spray with bleach and water to keep Pharoah ants away (multi family building)
DRYER SHEETS!! YES MICE LOVE TO USE THEM FOR NESTING! GOT TO CALL THAT ONE OUT!!!!
That's probably not too healthy for the mice
Diacetomeus earth, DE, works against many insects and intestinal worms. Make just sure its food grade. Ok for both cats dogs and humans.
How do you know it's food grade? How much, how often & will it work if it is cooked in cookies or scrambled eggs?
Yes, I used neem leaves n it works. Tq!
I have basil and peppermint growing all the way around my house. Also have mice, spiders and ants!
I have rosemary and basil and we have ants spiders and other incects
Thanks for the info I like my new natural anti pest plants 🌱
Hey B.S., thanks for the refresher course. It helps. I'm allergic to many things and have been researching bug control over 40 year. Moth crystal thrown lightly on a roof gets rid of bees, squirrels, what have you. Hope you try it. Your subscriber, DMDoncheski
There great for keeping snakes out of your yard to... Best if you crush and spread it..
How do u know it’s b.s?
