Hi Beamerview very nice. I have X1 two years old but the X3 M40i is what I like, so we’ll see. Taxes are high in Croatia our government are hungry for money hahaha. Best regards Damir.
@@damirmajer5905 hi, the parts there are they expensive or do u order straight from Germany maker of parts - not from the dealer but from the manufacturer.
I had a '92 318is, I bought used with 46,000 miles. Drove it for 24 years and 277,000 miles and loved that little car! BTW, I used regular gas and never had an engine problem. Guess I was lucky.
I had 7 BMW cars. They never failed me. All you have to do is change oil every 3,500-5000 miles, change all the hoses and pulleys every 45K miles, flush coolant and brake fluid every 2 years. My 2013 535i costed me $3,500 in maintenance over 10 years including the breaks.
Every 3500 miles the oil change? That proves we have to be too careful with those cars to avoid having a very expensive failure. Even brands like Peugeot or Renault won't need an oil change so frequently and they would last easily up to 100k miles w/o major expensive repairs
I always tell people don't listen to people who complain about BMW most of them they don't even own one. I own 2019 BMW X6M I haven't had any issues at all; all this years. I service my car on time . As long as you take of your car it will last u for a long time. Plus driving a beast Like BMW is an absolute POWER you stand out from everyone and my friend that is a PLEASURE !!!
Great points Asge, I also agree people think it's worse than it actually is. Yes, routine service and taking care of the vehicle will always keep it well in the long run!
This is just not true. Yes maintenance is important obviously but it’s a myth that the only reason people have so many problems with their BMWs is because they aren’t doing the maintenance.
Purchased a '20 540i, under 23k miles, about a month ago. It did not take me long to fall in love with it. Still learning about how everything works. Absolutely LOVE the ride and the handling.
Hopefully it still has the autolock keyfob function. I have a 535 and set the car to lock automatically once the key fob is certain distance away from the car. You set the car to ventilate at certain times. So the interior will be nice and comfortable to and from work. I'm still amazed at how comfortable the car is. But sports mode just brings the car alive and it turns into a running back in a suit.
I got an X3 M40i in May and it’s a dream. I upgraded from a 2006 Honda Civic that I had for 18 years. Talk about a night and day change! I’m going to treat this car SO well.
All I know is CPO is THE way to go! I purchased a 2021 X3 M40i this weekend. 24,000 miles, fully loaded, $51k. Still has prepaid maintenance, and a warranty until June of 2026 with UNLIMITED miles. If it breaks, I get a loaner. Seems like the best way to go if you want a BMW.
I had a 2004 BMW 325i that I bought as a CPO in 2007. What a joke from the dealer. I thought CPOs had to meet certain strict criteria. Once I got mine home I started finding all kinds of things that I had to make the dealer fix. Ridiculous! Things you wouldn’t necessarily notice until you got it home and really got down and noticed. I think the previous owner had a dog, I found so much dog hair in the back of car, a lot of wear also for a car that new and only 29,000 or 30,000 when I purchased it. Dirty carpet , broken plastic at the foot well of the back door. I can’t even remember everything, but it was really ridiculous what the shoved off on me. Looking back I should have taken more action, at least given them a piece of my mind good and proper, better I should have made a huge scene right in the dealership. They also at first refused to give me a loaner car to fix the broken crap that existed when I bought because I live out of state, but not far out of state. I made sure I would be able to get loaner vehicles if need be before I purchased then be refused. I called them out and needless to say I was given a loaner. What a bunch of jerks and idiots. That’s why I hate to step foot in a dealer because they are all crooks-- bottom line!
I own a 2013 F31. Have owned it for 1 year now. Doing my maintenance on time and it has not given me any trouble whatsoever so far. Runs like a clock. Hope that will continue.
Been looking into some used 2019-2021 X3s and 3 series and have been worrying about the stigma of reliability surrounding BMWs this video was super helpful
Ive had 3 BMWs over my time. The latest is a 2017 X3 35i M-Sport. Ive had it 7yrs and its been rock solid! Love it. Looking to get an X5 now for some extra space.
Own 2023 X5 i40M, 2 months now, love the dynamics drive of the car, so much power and so much safe, feel like sport car. Planning to upgrade to the X5 50e for the mordem look and electrified.
I've owned BMW for 23 years now and just picked up the 2019 X3 with low miles; love the cars. Never any major issues, these cars are built tough. Love them!
I've owned several BMW's and keep them until they reach around 150K miles. It's important to come to grips with the fact that a BMW is a luxury sports car that is an amazing machine but is going to require maintenance and a lot of care. If you're not up for it emotionally or financially just buy a Lexus.
Agreed. A lot more parts are moving around and involved to make it the ultimate driving machine. They overall have become much more reliable over the years but yes, if one is looking for top reliability, Lexus and Toyota are the way to go.
Wifey and I test drove a 2024 X3 XDrive30i this past weekend. We couldn’t believe how strong that 4Litre turbocharged engine is! And, how quiet and well behaved that compact suv is! Wow!
As an owner of a 2020 540i I can say that if you are not the type of owner that can change a cabin air filter and an engine air filter by yourself at home then you will be absolutely ripped off at the dealership with the costs of these simple items.
I would recommend anyone driving a BMW outside of warranty to go to a local shop to get it done. Dealership is the most reliable granted and if money isnt the issue I would go there, but they will charge much more so just a heads up.
Currently driving the 2020 320i Motorsport and after four years of ownership no issues had an E90 and they had problems after 7 years of owning it the gaskets all coolant hoses needed replacing , coils and spark plugs , water pump , thermostat, Fuel Pump , New Brake pads and Rotors all up 3.5k
I own a 2021 530ix , bought cpo, with 28k miles , it was $39k. That is a lot less then new. I got tired of my corvettes spending more time at the dealers getting repairs then I did driving it. I have 2 friends that that have 7 bmw between them , every member of their family has a BMW. They love them
Had a 2016 740i for over 2 years. Great car, 105k miles very reliable... Totaled with hurricane Helene. 😢 Just got a used 2019 X7 40i with 73k miles for $37k. Had to go a 1000 miles away to check it and get it. Looks new from every angles. Went that far because it had over 20k worth of options (i wanted the premium/executive package, the cold weather package, the nicer rims and the Bowers Wilkins sound system at least while having a very reliable 40i). Very hard to find a X5 or X7 40i with Bowers Wilkins, but worth it! I also happen to work at the BMW plant Spartanburg producing the X5, X6, X7 and XM, and get to see first hand how seriously quality is taken care of, which made me want to get one. (Another side of the plant does the X3 and X4, but i don't go there often.)
I have a 2017 X3 35i I've been happy with it, has 58K on it now, I needed brakes and rotors last year, got a really good deal at the dealership. This past Christmas though, my windshield started leaking. Previous owner used an after market windshield that didn't fit right carpets all wet, leaked in the harness in the door $5600 worth of damage, insurance covered most of it. Even with that, I still love my vehicle. Other than maintenence and this unfortunate issue, it's been very reliable.
Glad to here the 17 x3 is treating you well, they should be one of the most reliable BMWs in that era. These vehicles will last forever if you take care of it properly too
I have the 2022 M440i xDrive gran coupe in San Remo. I love this car. The only thing I don’t like is the start/stop. But I shut that off with help from your videos. My grocery getter is the 21 type r civic hatch.
I had a 328i for nine years. I had one issue that would be considered a reliability issue. That issue was weird, even from the mechanic. There was a weird battery shortage that required the replacement of wiring. Other than that, it was accidents. I had no real issues with dependability. But I definitely got rid of the run flats as soon as I could.
I own a 2022 X3 M40I. Before that it was a 2008 MBZ GL550. I currently have just over 65,000 miles on the BMW and have had only one minor issue, and that was resolved with a firmware update. HOWEVER- two sets of 21” run-flat tires = $5,000, one windshield = $3,400, CA registration $1400, and the Dealer, that oddly only charges $130 per oil change X 2, and its close to 5K a year before I put fuel in it. 25,000 miles / 25 mpg = 1,000 gallons of premium fuel at over $5 per gallon here in CA, and it goes to $10,000 + per year to operate if nothing goes wrong. Not even counting the $1000 + per year insurance. Oh, and the dealer, where the shop rate is $295.00 per hour just quoted me $695.00 for spark plugs and $300 for cabin filters, so there’s that. Michelin now has tires (non run flat) that are a little more than half the cost of the OE’s and are rated at twice the wear, so I may buy a spare and try those to save a few bucks, but I hate to compromise the handling and stopping distance. Anyway, it ain’t cheap to own, compared to other small crossovers or SUV’s, that’s for certain. If you compare it to other performance models, Macan, SQ5, Giulia, etc. I would guess that it is in the middle of the pack.
My brother has a 2022 X5 he bought new and his tires needed changing with just 24K miles on it. The front two tires plus and an alignment cost him $1,300, his warranty for tire package covered the rear tires for an extra $1,200 otherwise.
Good call with the wheel and tire package. 24k miles could seem a bit low. Not sure if it's due to the majority of those miles being city miles, or if the rim/tire choice was a more sporty design, which those do tend to wear faster.
I’m not sure he’s right about the time period. Ever CR Brand reliability report I have read states they survey people on reliability going back to cars that are up to 20 years old. I imagine newer vehicles are going to get a greater weighting in the averages, but the point is the age of the vehicles can be much greater than two years
We just ordered a new 2023 X3 M40I. This is our first BMW and are really looking forward to getting it. Your videos have really helped us out on making the decision. Really sick and tired of the big three. Time to move on too hopefully a better SUV.
I just got my new 2023 M40i last week. It was pricey at $71,000 but had everything I needed. I must have adaptive cruise control and this one has been upgraded to Tesla like driving compared to my old 2020 X3 30i. No regrets
Great video and spot on. Owning a BMW is a love-hate type of relationship. You'll love the power and the ride, but you'll hate the repairs especially if you own it past 5 years or 100K. Either get a new BMW after 100K or have a best friend who is a mechanic. I also HIGHLY recommend the wheel and tire protection. I told a friend to get this a few years ago and she has already been through 3 tires because of potholes and curbing. I do agree with you, once you own one and drive it, it can really be hard to switch brands
Thanks for the video. Depreciation is a benefit for me. I like to buy a 1-3 year old BMW (often a lease return) because they are significantly depreciated. If the BMW is still under warranty, I usually buy an extended warranty through BMW, basically turning into a CPO. The price for these extended warranties is negotiable.
I never buy used cars, CPO’s even. I’ve witnessed how hard people drive their cars these days, especially leased cars. They drive off right after starting on cold mornings, as if it’s been running for an hour, brake hard, use cheap gas, use regular gas in premium only cars, etc. I once ran over to warn a driver at the gas station he’s putting regular in a Benz. He said, “I don’t care, it’s a lease.” Those actions will cost you once you buy it. When I buy a BMW, I’m getting it brand new. I’m not fixing someone else’s abuse.
Yeah I could agree that there is less care taken on leased vehicles. I would still be okay buying certified as long as I can look at the vehicle and tell that it was well taken care of. In order for the vehicle to be certified it has to have had oil changes done on time so that is a pretty good strict criteria.
This is exactly why I bought a 2023 540i a few weeks back. End of the G30 cycle, about as rock solid as it can get, fully engineered at the end of the lifecycle, and won't have near the issues the new model will when it drops next year. Plus, i think the 2023 540i looks way better than the 2024 model, not a fan of all the changes BMW made, and they ruined the interior IMO...it looks like a freakin tesla on the inside, not like the luxury car it should be. Also not a fan of the "everything on the touchpad". Being forced to fiddle with the touch display to do even simple things like raise or lower the temperature is going distract people and get them killed, especially older drivers who are technologically challenged. Terrible design decision all around for the 2024 model....
You're 100 percent about the 2023 being the most reliable. It's true buying the vehicle at the end of the life cycle is the best time to buy if you want the best reliability. ID8 takes some time getting use to, but with the use of voice command and the search menu built it, it does make it easy to navigate after a while.
O yeeeee. I got my 530i X almost a year ago, 20K miles was on it. CPO . 3 years bumper to bumper , unlimited miles … and this car is amazing. Even after almost a year of owning, I’m still impress like I bought it yesterday. So, now it’s 37k miles : yes, I put 17k miles on it … and never had any issues with that . NEVER 😊.
I’m also keeping my eyes on that car really good looking car but looks like 21,22 has some defects parts installed and recalled I hope 2023 models the last one they didn’t mess around enjoy your toy and Good luck !!!
I’ve been debating on getting an RS3 or a G80 M3. Seems as if the S58 is not only a powerhouse but also a really reliable motor especially for it to be a performance engine. With forged moving internals and such I really feel like i can’t go wrong with a G80 imo.
@@BeamerView yes indeed. But with the RS3 it does have a much weaker motor and that means more supporting mods. Which I don’t mind doing but if I can save money and just get a G80 and do a good down pipe and a conservative tune and not worry about any issues considering the strength of the motor then it’s for sure what I’d lean towards
Pick what sounds better to you, lighter, and possibly a little cheaper. I’ve owned 4 BMWs and a few Audis th-cam.com/video/YfN9JxbUr8g/w-d-xo.htmlsi=gaXWLbh-ECMRnULI
@@MatthewJay80 just seen this video. Would’ve been a better race if the G80 was on an e30 blend. But I’m able to have the opportunity to choose either or. I’m really leaning towards the M3 honestly.
@@marvo9018 Yes, some ethanol would help wake it up. can’t go wrong with either just be prepared to pay at least $40K more for an AWD M3. An RS3 can be built for half that to run 1100 horsepower reliably.
Speaking about disks and tires - this is so true. I own my BMW for 3 months and already scratched my disk somewhere. I don't even know how and when it happened. The roads in Massachusetts are full of potholes. I guess this is the reality that we live in. With regards to costs - you will get what you paid for. Nice car = solid amount of money. Also, if you want to drive more reliable BMW don't buy M-Sport. Those vehicles are optimized for performance which always means to service more often than usual. Plus their engines are running at higher RPM and hotter which means oil degrades faster. So replace oil as early as possible. Furthermore, a lot depends on your driving style - if you like to be a show-off driver then you will get more wear&tear. My friend who owned a few BMWs told me to replace oil every 5k miles.
Great points, I also live in Mass, so I know exactly what you mean lol. M-Sport packaged vehicles are mainly aesthetic upgrades not on performance, aside from the suspension being 25 percent more stiff. Yes, the real M cars would be considered less reliable. These vehicles are meant to be driven as performance first, reliability 2nd for sure. BMW does have 10k Mile oil changes but I agree it does seem a bit steep, I would do it every 7500.
@@blocksource4192 even if you don’t drive a lot you have to replace oil regularly because it degrades over the time. There’s oil oxidation process that happens over time. It is not that fast for synthetic oils but once a year is a good frequency. When the oil oxidizes or breaks down it clogs the channels inside the engine so other parts are a little bit less lubricated which is often results in additional damage to the parts and worsening the heat. Oil is naturally driving the heat off the frictional parts. You might not be able to notice it visually but the viscosity of the oil becomes higher. The higher viscosity slowing down the flow and increasing the temperature of the engine and parts which makes everything worse.
We have 2 x3s, a 2014 m sport and a 2016 2.8i. The 2014 just had valve cover gasket replaced for 2nd time. Not sure why but there it is. It’s at 100k. Other than general maintenance it’s been a really good car and has served us well. The 2016 has had no major issues however my parking sensor module failed but I’m not going to worry about that right now. It’s an $800 repair and since my drivetrain is unaffected I’ll leave it for now. Other than usual maintenance, tires brakes it’s running fine at 77k. We plan on keeping them awhile longer but will prob not buy more bmws in future because we don’t want to be paying big maintenance costs into retirement age. Thinking about moving over to Lexus when the time comes.
Hello DP Thank you for your awesome, educational and informative videos. I love watching it and you do an awesome job. I am picking up my X3 on Monday, can’t wait to drive. Once again you are awesome
It's my third beamer, I had an E90M3, A 535 OF THE SAME YEAR and now I got a f32 420d bit of a come down in power but still a great car, I think this is the best beamer site ever created, run by guys who love their cars, much better info than motor magazines or car programmes, fantastic.
I got a '14 F10 528i for a low price at 69000 miles and replaced suspension parts up to the average retail value of the car so it drives like brand new. BMW had already replaced the valve cover and oil filter housing, injectors etc under motor plan. I fitted Dunlop tyres and find them super quiet for run-flats. I am now on 106000 miles and experienced no repairs as I replace the oil every 10000km. I find that if these cars are not driven hard and are well looked after, their long term maintenance costs may not be a drop in the bucket in comparison to the cost of new models. I am budgeting to replace the valve gasket cover and filter housing with control arms every 60000 miles. The car still drives like new and find it more spaceous and comfortable than the new 5 G series. My 18" tyres handle potholes extremely well with no tyres repairs. I have a motor warrantee with my insurance company at a very small monthly fee for any repairs up to 350000km.
If you do your own maintenance for a BMW vs a Honda accord it only costs like 20% more. Totally worth the experience and it’s a better value if you live somewhere with regular snowfall in the winter and have to worry about rust, because the bmw will take twice as long to get any real rust.
I am looking a 2018 BMW 530i with 71k miles on it. I don't want to do too much on expensive repair costs and I need this car to last me the next 4-5 years without too much trouble. Should I get it?
Short term great, long term, get ready. Many plastic parts under the hood that get brittle from heat and time. Vanos system issues and plenty of leaks from oil and water. Batteries are expensive as hell. All experiences from my well dealership maintained 2011 535I. However I did get almost 100,000 miles out of my rear brakes and rotors.
Thank you. Obviously the vehicle comes with a four year 50,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. My concern is what about the fifth or sixth year. The extended warranty is not cheap unfortunately I just don’t know if we would incur that much in cost with maintenance issues during those two years. Especially knowing that overall BMWs are reliable.
That is the concern I have with BMW and in general with German brands (Audi, Mercedes): they are great to drive, look very nice most of their models and feel luxurious (no question), but their reliability is not there. Despite saying you will be fine up to 100k miles following a good maintenance plan, that is not totally true, because it would depend on the country you live in (if you don't have many highways, lots of road & city driving doesn't helps these cars), the model (as you mentioned M models are more fragile) and time to cover those 100k miles (if you don't do much driving per year, taking those cars into the 10 year mark is very risky). One of my best friends & neighbor had a Mercedes C180 (I ride in that car many times), followed full maintenance plan and had a gear box failure at 75k miles (which cost him a fortune to repair, plus all the weeks car down waiting for spares); after that he set his car for sell and had to repair during that time other non cheap issues (water leak, oil pump failure, etc). I own a 2013 Audi A4 1.8T very well maintained with under 62k miles and had a misfire some months ago in cylinder 2 - after different visits to the dealership, they've found the timing chain stretched (supposedly, since car was only showing problem only a low revs) and had valve & engine head damage (still at the dealer waiting for spares): total of ~$5k and more than 4M almost stopped. When I bought the car second hand with full maintenance record, it had already a gear box repair at ~25k miles 😮. If we had truthful data, based on many comments, reviews and personal experience, I would say 50-60% of the cars from these German brands are "reliable" up to 100k miles with good maintenance and good driving conditions (and as long they are under 10 years old), and after that >80-90% becomes money drainers. Is not coincidence their resale is so low after 3 years - their reliability past that time has many dependencies and they are risky buys after first ownership. My advice: despite being so nice to drive cars, don't buy them; you are causing a problem in the used car market promoting very faulty cars running around that would become garbage (like EV would be) after 10 years
It’s not the most reliable. That ratings chart is for predicted reliability. That’s totally different than actual reported reliability. CR told me back in 2007 that my 2002 330i was reliable. This turned out to 100% NOT be the case and yes, the car was perfectly maintained by me and previous owner who had all the maintenance records to prove it.
@@Gogoterps The b58 is the most reliable engine on the market. I dont care about what predicted reliability tells you. It’s built with a diesel block… It’s literally made to handle power. Also it’s nobodies fault but yourd for buying a 330i in the 2000sxzz
Can't speak with any confidence either way ... I will just say I owned 2 over the course of 30 years. First one lasted me 16 years (and then some in-attentive woman smashed into the side of it coming of a parking lot). The second one lasted me 14 years. I am now on my 3rd BMW. We will see how it goes.
A little information left out regarding the wheel and tire package. If the rim is damaged but the tire still holds air, too bad so sad, and it's your dime. Make sure you read that itty bitty fine print on the contract. Do your research.
Didn't know about that part, it may vary but last i've heard a couple hrs ago was curbed wheels can be re-finished up to 4 times. Tire's should be replaceable if anything is wrong with them.
I've had my 2015 X5m now for over 3 yrs. Bar the rear air spring bags (that my Mechanic replaced for $495 which the BMW Dealership quoted me $2250!!) it's been just regular maintenance (tires, brakes, rotors etc). I'm thankful I have a great mechanic as the stealership, i mean dealership, are a rip off.
That is an insane price difference! Agreed with what you did, any vehicle that would be outside of the warranty period, I would always go with a 3rd party techniction.
@@BeamerView exactly. I love my BMW's, but anything outside of warranty you need to find a decent mechanic and take the time to source the parts yourself. I know thats not for everyone, but unless you're going up to Porsche, Audi's and Mercedes just don't have the same driving dynamics as a BMW.
I personally would always have warranty with a BMW, as the vehicles get past that 6 year mark its normal for any car to have a small quirk here and there, warranty will give the piece of mind as well. Other than that It is a great vehicle to get.
Great point, and you are right about the fact that it makes sense in these market conditions it makes more sense to buy a new car rather than a pre-owned one. The market won't always stay that way and we'll correct itself eventually. Depreciation for brand new vehicles the first 1-2 years is a lot, especially for BMWs.
Not sure where you came up with those numbers. I just bought a loaded 2021 CPO X3 M40i (Carbon black) for $43k, 30k miles, still has 15 months of factory warranty, and another year of CPO warranty after that. Inside and out basically new, new tires, new brakes, and various minor repairs made (scratches and some computer issues). It has everything I want including a tow package, spare tire package, drivers+, HK, parking+, prem pkg, leather, upgraded wheels, etc. The almost identical car new (differences - well, the facelift, the driver's assistance pro and it was sapphire black which looked pretty much the same) was $74170 without the tow pkg or spare tire pkg, so let's say (optimistically) the price would be $74k with those included. So $31k difference, the CPO seems well worth it to me. Even at the original advertised price of $50k still seems worth it. Plus the CPO price came down from $50k pretty easily while the new didn't seem to be moving much.
What about the 2-series? I have a 2013 128i with about 54,000 miles. I'm tempted by the 2-series but inclined to hold on to my 128i. I drive about 5000 miles a year and car is garaged.
I would say those years BMWs were not as reliable as they are now. I would expect average reliability. I personally would opt in for a newer model about 2021+
They updated the chart since the making up this video. I believe BMW dropped to the 9th position as of late 2023. I can imagine why since they released many new vehicles along with new software, some of which are buggy but should be looking better again the next few years to come. Happy Holidays!
I’m a mail carrier who commutes 1:45 minutes 6 days a week. I currently drive a 2020Cadillac xt6 but will be trading it in soon . I am considering a 2023 bmw540! With 6k miles or a Honda pilot elite ( the elite Honda is the only ride of Honda that I like. But the bmw really love. Considering I’m driving 15k or so a year I don’t know that is the better choice please help me
I would opt in for the 540, the 2023 is probably the most reliable one you can get since it was the last year of its generation. It would also come down to how long you plan on keeping the car. Personally speaking I would only keep the BMW for no more than 6 years but if you want one you'd keep longer then opt in for the pilot.
My new X3 M40i broke just a few miles from the dealers lot. Smoke coming from engine bay …ended up being an oil leak on the valve cover so they said. 😩
Hey your videos is awesome keep up the good work! I have a question I bought my dream car 850i convertible 🎉 has 15k miles on it my question is it reliable and how much the yearly maintenance after the warranty expires? Thank you 😊
I’m from the uk. Your channel is great. I’ve learnt a lot from it especially to set up the shortcuts to activate the features on CarPlay audio and maps. Keep going
Sorry late reply. I would've opt for the 22 X5, that model year was known to be quite reliable so with the high miles it would be the better bet in my opinion.
I have been watching your videos and your are doing an amazing job! I currently own a 118i sport ‘21 and I am currently looking for the new X1. What do you think about that car ?
Thanks Marios, i'll be sure to keep them coming. I personally never driven the 118i since I'm in the US. But, I will say the X1 is probably one of the best BMW driving vehicles i've ever been in. It was the first thing that came to mind since it felt like I was driving a car rather than a small SAV. The tech in it is pretty good as well, everything up to date. If you are looking to basically get more space and newer tech, I would highly recommend the new X1.
I've always been surrounded by japanese motors as daily commuters. I'm interested in the bmw M2 as a weekend vehicle. would you recommend getting a M2?
It can last for a long time, I personally wouldn't own a BMW outside of the warranty period. So if it's new, about 4 years. If you want 6 years you certainly can, but get the extended warranty.
I don't fuck with the extended warranty. The best option is to work on your car yourself. For example, I own a x5 40e, valvetronic sensomotor broke. I would have to pay $1000-3000, instead I paid $70-100 for the part and it runs fine to this day.
Any XM courses? I just picked up my 2023 Bmw XM w/3,800 miles on Saturday. Awesome ride, but I just got a check engine light on😳😤, and it says nothing is wrong on the touch screen system
No Xm Courses yet, not enough demand on them at this time. Best to bring in the vehicle to get it looked at if it comes on with that light. Probably something minor.
Hello. I found a 2022 BMW 530i and I am very interested in purchasing it. May I ask your opinion about the reliability of that model and year. I am willing to switch to BMW from Honda due to the report from Consumer Reports.
2022 5 series would be considered a good choice. 2011 would be one I wouldn't recommend since that was the first year of the new design. So 2022 would be good since they had enough time to fix any minor issues that the 2011 may have had. I would buy.
I would say they are, not as good as they are now though. I personally would stick to 19-20 model years. 200k is quite a bit for a BMW. It definitely is possible but the costs could start to add up after 100k miles, may be a good idea to do your own work to the car or find a local bmw shop to take care of it after the warranty is up.
@@BeamerView your right 200k is a stretch.. But if I bought at about 50-70k I would probably put double on it because I plan to keep it for a few years
Hope you're correct, because I just a 2023 X4 M40i because I generally kept a vehicle 3 t0 4 years. They usually have between 60,000 to 80,000 miles on them. My goal is to trade up to a M550i. From the reviews on the M550i, it's an awesome ride but the one I have now isn't reliable and I don't get a good trade in value on it that most likely won't happen
You’ll get a real good value on the X4. The LCI for that vehicle happened quite recently so it’ll be a design that will be around for the next few years. I’ve heard the older generation m550i have had tons of issues. But I’m very sure the newer ones have those issues fixed. The LCI for the 5 series is also going to be coming up for next year so by the time you trade up it should be very reliable as well.
That one should be a very reliable one since they changed the design in 2022, usually the last year models before a redesign tend to be the most reliable.
I just had the biggest laugh at the mention of Consumer Reports 😂 I’ve always relied on them for guidance on issues I might encounter with cars, so don’t take it the wrong way. It’s just hilarious because back in the day when BMW still deserved their reputation for being problematic, whenever someone mentioned the poor ratings in CR all the BMW guys would pounce because “everyone knows CR is paid to prop up whatever brands pay them the most money” and stuff like that…but now that BMW are actually really great cars and CR is telling us that they are, all of a sudden they are reputable lol. People be funny like that. TheB58 is a gem, I would buy pretty much any BMW with that engine but the 4.4 V8 is one motor I would avoid as a used car. They are known to be problematic with higher miles.
@@BeamerView even the golf R would have a lower maintenance cost? I am asking it because my commute is 200km every day in a highway and I am concerned about the maintenance cost. So if we compare the golf R with the 330i maybe it would be fair now both awd.
2009 bmw 328i with the N52 Engine it's bullet proof and a tank I got 167,000 miles on it never nothing major wrong with it still purrs like a cat when I start it up and drive it you just have to know which model and year to get funny is a lot of people talk about Toyota not realizing the Toyota Supra uses BMW's B58 engine which is known for its reliability and is a tank.

I had a '92 318is, I bought used with 46,000 miles. Drove it for 24 years and 277,000 miles and loved that little car! BTW, I used regular gas and never had an engine problem. Guess I was lucky.
Thats amazing!! Haha, that thing must've been a one of a kind, but im sure aside from the regular gas you took care of it well. =)
you have the heavens protecting your wallet. 😊
Thats amazing! Completely true on the fact that taking care of it will pay back dividends.
Every 3500 miles the oil change? That proves we have to be too careful with those cars to avoid having a very expensive failure. Even brands like Peugeot or Renault won't need an oil change so frequently and they would last easily up to 100k miles w/o major expensive repairs
😮😮😮 that’s great
I was told 7500-10k so idk that’s wasteful
A car shouldn't need any maintenance other than oil changes, tires, brake pads for 1st 100k miles.
Is maintenance very expensive?
I know several people who have owned BMW's and they've all said they are mechanically unreliable
From 2017 models BMW combustion engines are reliable
Purchased a '20 540i, under 23k miles, about a month ago. It did not take me long to fall in love with it. Still learning about how everything works. Absolutely LOVE the ride and the handling.
Right on!
The B58 engine in the M340i is a beast! Best car I’ve own so far.
Best engine of all time!
Toyota borrowing the B58 for their Supra says a lot about its reliability!

Yup, those model years are pretty good, esp the 2021.

Ive had 3 BMWs over my time. The latest is a 2017 X3 35i M-Sport. Ive had it 7yrs and its been rock solid! Love it. Looking to get an X5 now for some extra space.
Glad to hear you've had 3 of them, I can see myself doing the same!!
Own 2023 X5 i40M, 2 months now, love the dynamics drive of the car, so much power and so much safe, feel like sport car. Planning to upgrade to the X5 50e for the mordem look and electrified.
Agreed, it drives like a car. I even drove the X7 last night and was amazed at how well a large SUV SAV could handle! X5e is also great!
I've owned BMW for 23 years now and just picked up the 2019 X3 with low miles; love the cars. Never any major issues, these cars are built tough. Love them!
I’m in a 2019 X3 right now checking one out haha. Great vehicle.
I have z4 . Today 3 years owner ship oil change 3 for $225. Brake fluid change $150 spark plugs 130 from bmw dealership. 4:11

I have a 2012 535 x drive, only had to replace the crappy headlights and water pump. It's been pretty reliable.
That’s great to know I do believe the 5 series from the generation were quite reliable compared to the generation that came after that
I have 176k miles on my 2007 BMW 328i. Runs great.

That 4-cylinder really punches above its weight class!
Looking at getting a 2022 X5 in the next few weeks. This will be my first BMW. Im keeping my Lexus and Toyota though.
I also plan on keeping a Honda as my daily with my BMW, best combos!

They love them
Great pick. Love the 5 series. Yes the 530 is also a very reliable one.
Had a 2016 740i for over 2 years. Great car, 105k miles very reliable... Totaled with hurricane Helene. 😢
Just got a used 2019 X7 40i with 73k miles for $37k.

Thanks for sharing! 3 Series are some of the most reliable BMWs

The run flat tires can be very problematic, one of the least things I like about bmw.
1:30 1-2 years is not long enough to assess reliability. That report is based on a faulty standing already.
I see water pump failure, valve cover gasket leak and just leaks everywhere in his future 😂
@@ThomasWayne4312uh oh
I’m not sure he’s right about the time period. Ever CR Brand reliability report I have read states they survey people on reliability going back to cars that are up to 20 years old. I imagine newer vehicles are going to get a greater weighting in the averages, but the point is the age of the vehicles can be much greater than two years
I test drove the x5 and fell in love. I take very good care if my Nissan Sentra so I'm confident my BMW will last long if I make the purchase

Great video, looking to get a certified BMW this video helps.Love german cars
Best of luck! Certified is the way to go.
Thanks for backing up my points! Glad your friend got that package, I tell many to get it as well.
Can you please make a video about warranties(Ultimate care) and which is the best to choose . Thanks Btw loves your videos keep up!
For sure! Great point on that one, adding to the list
Yup that's a great way to buy them! Good strategy.
How much does it cost to add an extended warranty layer
G80 all the way. I feel it's a league above the RS3, although the RS3 can put up some crazy numbers if you mod it.

I dont even get 5k miles in a year so....
@@k1zmt I do it once a year, I drive 5k miles in about 2 years
We have 2 x3s, a 2014 m sport and a 2016 2.8i.
Great Points Francois! I also agree 18inch rims are the best of both worlds, anything 19inch + I would opt in for the wheel and tire!
Hey Nabeel, responded back to your email. Thanks
This vid helped a lot bro I was gonna buy a used bmw m5 prior to watching this vid now I'm gonna jus lease one instead thanks for vid
Highly recommend leasing M cars if you have the option to! Glad it helped!
Great point, and awesome to see the 535i last that long. They've built the cars much better since then too so I'm sure they will do great.
I recently traded her in with a little over 114000 miles and she still has a lot of life in her. Picked up a sweet 2021 M550.
My advice: despite being so nice to drive cars, don't buy them; you are causing a problem in the used car market promoting very faulty cars running around that would become garbage (like EV would be) after 10 years
Ironic how one of the most reliable brands gets called unreliable... Haters gonna hate.
Consumer Reports also just named it the number 1 car brand this year!!
Hi I’m looking to get into a 2018 BMW X1 with 21,000 miles. Is that worth getting? Should I get warranty?
I personally would always have warranty with a BMW, as the vehicles get past that 6 year mark its normal for any car to have a small quirk here and there, warranty will give the piece of mind as well. Other than that It is a great vehicle to get.
In made always leasing for 3 years with 125000 km and full Service can bei included in the rate
Thats a great way to do it!
2012 528i with 120k…. Dead of Timing Chain. Cost $5,000 to fix.
CPOs aren't much less expensive than new vehicles factory-ordered. How are we really avoiding depreciation if the CPO is only 5k less than new?
I personally would opt in for a newer model about 2021+
Comsumer Reports BMW is 15th on the list for 2022. Where did you find your chart from?
They updated the chart since the making up this video. I believe BMW dropped to the 9th position as of late 2023. I can imagine why since they released many new vehicles along with new software, some of which are buggy but should be looking better again the next few years to come. Happy Holidays!
Having a plastic oil pan and valve cover would bother me.
Same!
Is a 2021 320i m sport with about 20 thousand kilometres reliable enough for about 6+ years? Thanks
But what if you buy used? How many miles do they last before they start costing too much to maintain?
I personally wouldn't own on past 100k miles or until the warranty runs out.
Strange . That's one of the most reliable Bmws. What was the problem?
The high performance M line has high expectations and everything gets nit-picked.
It does, quite the expensive vehicle. But yes it's expensive for the fact that it's a performance vehicle and everything else is secondary to that.
Hey your videos is awesome keep up the good work! I have a question I bought my dream car 850i convertible 🎉 has 15k miles on it my question is it reliable and how much the yearly maintenance after the warranty expires? Thank you 😊
Sure check out this source > caredge.com/bmw/8-series/maintenance
What about the 2021 530e model. Any issues with that model if I wanted to buy a certified pre-owned one? 32,000 miles on it
I would go against it, it was a first year model or newly redesigned/facelifted which those tend to have more of the issues.
Key words most reliable now!
Exactly!
Wife has the 22 m340 once you drive a bmw you really can’t drive anything else also very very reliable and fast lol
M340i's are dangerous since they are probably one of the best BMWs ever made!
I’m from the uk. Your channel is great. I’ve learnt a lot from it especially to set up the shortcuts to activate the features on CarPlay audio and maps. Keep going
Means alot Nadaraj! Will continue to keep it going! Reach out if you ever have any questions!
52k miles on my Supra with zero issues. I just bought a x4 for my wife. The new BMW are very reliable. The early 2000 BMW are trash. 😂
Great point! Love the supras!
Important thing to remember: you’re straight if you have a b58
Facts !
Hey is it worth buying a 2017 bmw x3 w 92k+ miles for 17k or a 22 X5 w 57kmiles for 39k?
As a weekend vehicle most definitely. Amazing vehicle for the weekends and can even get the job done as a daily driver if you wanted.
I was going for a CPO but then ended up buying a new 2023 X3 M40i - what year should
I sell it or should I just trade in for upgrade ?
It can last for a long time, I personally wouldn't own a BMW outside of the warranty period. So if it's new, about 4 years. If you want 6 years you certainly can, but get the extended warranty.
I don't fuck with the extended warranty. The best option is to work on your car yourself. For example, I own a x5 40e, valvetronic sensomotor broke. I would have to pay $1000-3000, instead I paid $70-100 for the part and it runs fine to this day.
Can you tell me if the used x5 35d 2017 reliable? I am interesting in that car. Just dont want to spend much money on bmw warranty.
2020 - 2023 X5s are the most reliable I would say. The 17 35d won't be the best, but will be pretty good since that design has already out since 2014.
Thanks for the great information.
Anytime Jon! Reach out if you ever have any questions!
What about the new M2 with the S58 twin turbo? Reliable?
New M2 engine is fine, I would highly advise waiting for at least the 2nd generation model year so they can work out the kinks.
Are 2016s n up reliable? Because that's when they started the B58. Im looking for a 17-20 440i grand coupe. Also planning to drive up to 200k
But if I bought at about 50-70k I would probably put double on it because I plan to keep it for a few years
Well in 2016 I bought an M 440i and now the car has 40k so we’ll see how much km I can reach with my B58 engine…..🙏
Also the dealer ship is amazing we get free Starbucks and ice cream lol
That's amazing!
I’m looking into buying a 2021 X3 sdrive30i sports activity vehicle. Is it a good bmw? I’m nervous 😅
That one should be a very reliable one since they changed the design in 2022, usually the last year models before a redesign tend to be the most reliable.
@@BeamerView even if it already has 50k miles?
Also thank you for the reply! You’re awesome ❤️🔥👏🏽
So 2020 and up or 2021 and up when it comes to Consumer Report on bmw I really want a bmw but want to know which one was the reliable ones
i would bet on 2021+.
X5 and 3 Series got top picks!
2 series also share the same 3 and 4 series engines
Correct!
Any opinions on a 2022 X6 M50i
Same platform as the x5. Great vehicle and reliable according to the data
Good point, yes also glad to hear BMW had 2 years in a row of good ratings, finally combining amazing drive with overall balance in every segment.
@@BeamerView The 340i/M340i has been pretty solid since the 2016 model year.
My brother I was looking a 2021 740 60,000 miles do you think it’s good to get it one owner but it’s from a high end dealership not bmw
Good choice, If you do I’d recommend getting warranty.
If you compare maintenance cost between a golf gti 2023 and a 330i 2023 would be quite similar?
I would say no, the 330i would be about 10-15k more than the GTI.
What about the 5 series?
Super reliable!
I can't get onboard with the long oil change interval....I change mine halfway between the 15k normal interval.
True, I would do about 7500 Max even though it says every 10k.
Our mechanic tells us 5k. We have older x3s. I’ve never been on board with longer intervals.
@@sunnyta619 of course a Mechanic will tell you that more money in his pocket.
