    Getting back in after a long hiatus.......having to re-learn the technology as i got my start in the mid 80's and ive kept ALL of my cars and tools and gear, but this is a whole new world, and with brushless and lipo battery technology, and seeing how far the range of manufacturers and chassis technology has come, ive dusted off some of the old rides, but i dont take those out in public, ive decided its easier to ''just start over'', biggest thing to get used to is the ''RTR" movement.....i'm used to building my own stuff, and it seems like nobody really stocks kits anymore...that and there arent NEARLY the number of tracks here in the chicago area like there was back in the late 80's and early 90's, this issue is hurting the hobby, most people are just ''bashing'' or going no=prep drag racing, which is fine......i love your content brother, keep it going.

    Another very useful source is a good friend who has been racing for a long time. They can give you advice such as buying "pre-owned" equipment, maintaining your stuff and how to have more fun and less frustration.

    Nice vid! So I am solidly in the middle of the newbie getting a start in racing experience. I agree that the SCT's are probably a bit easier at first to drive over the buggies. However with it not being as competitive it also lost popularity it seems. While a lot of guys show up at our local tracks open run time on the weekends they never show up on race night and the races are only buggies. Our track is trying to bring back SCT and ST. My start... yup... 2 wd buggy. A local racer befriended me and really took me under his wing. He actually GAVE me an older b5m roller and then help me gear it up. Now he's pissed because it handles better than his new buggy! LOL Learning skills on a 2wd buggy I think will be more beneficial to a new drivers development too. As it is harder to drive it forces you to take it easy and learn. Also went with 17.5 turn motor so its not a rocket ship. And EVERY track has stock 2wd buggy classes running on race night. I figure once I've gotten a handle on the 2wd I'll be better able to handle the 4wd buggy which seems to most often run as a mod class with more power.
    Just thought I'd share my experience and just my opinion which is all it is. I really like your video. Keep em coming! and thanks for taking the time to help us newbies out!
    Oh and ps... you mentioned ST info vid from “Chris Harris”. I saw that type of video by a “Ryan Harris”? Ryans channel is great too. But it totally sounds like his video you mentioned.

    Would also say sct isn't to big in lot of places. And buggy is much easier to drive(lcg from no big body, jumps better, lot bigger class so can if not racing sportsmen there a chance be a few mains and be with people more your level, also more run buggy so better chance of being able get some help on a good setup, setup can make a car very fast or slow easy to drive or just a massive struggle)

    • @RoachRC
      @RoachRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I understand what you mean. The reason recommended sct over 2wd buggy mainly was because its a bit less competitive

      @@RoachRC more 4wd buggy or ebuggy. Handle much better lots of grip and the fly nice. The fast sct guys are crazy fast compared to others and it takes a lot of time to get use to how to jump them etc.

    Hi! Do you happen to know what are the approximate dimensions of that track in the video? Width x length.
    In my area there’s only an outdoor off-road track which to be honest, can only be used less than half of the year at best, due to weather conditions. I’ve got a place we’re I keep my cars and I think I could squeeze a track similar to the one in the video so I can race my rc cars all year long. Thanks!

    Tekno is pretty big for 1/10. Serpent isn't to common. Would say agama and pr is more common. Pretty great video for someone who needs some information. I would say tirnity is more common then reedy for motors. Almost everyone says xfactor atm for stock racing.

    One thing I want to note is that, if it's available, go with mod rather than stock. While the vehicles are faster and thus crashes will be more punishing, it's actually a lot easier and more importantly a lot cheaper to set up a car to be reasonably competitive for mod class than it is for stock. Stock class is extremely reliant on weight and rolling resistance reduction, and it's common to see people put hundreds of dollars into specialized bearing kits, top-end motors and all sorts of other upgrades just to squeeze that last bit of power out of a car. Whereas with mod class you can just run a lower turn motor if you want more power. Mod also ends up self-regulating since there is such a thing as too much power in racing.
    Separate note, in regards to running the platform that's most popular, that's decent advice for a beginner but I would like to note that there's a caveat. Don't be afraid to run a less popular model once you get some experience. Buying and running "exotic" race cars helps keep small, innovative brands around to help keep the big guys on their toes. I've seen too many instances where a new brand shows up with an awesome new car only to go bankrupt because they weren't able to build up a market share. Look at what happened to Tenth Tech - they came out with a car in the early 2000s that's STILL relatively competitive today against modern 4WD buggies (at least on dirt, anyway), but no one gave them a chance.
