This is just perfect, exactly what I need right now. I’ve been trying to work out Fly Me by ear for fun, and, by the looks of it, my chord choices have been way off. I should work on basics, and not overstretch and make my life more difficult. Will be watching this whole tutorial for sure. Many thanks.
‘The basics come first for everybody, including me.’ Love that. I need to tattoo that on my forehead! Can’t thank you enough, hope I don’t rattle on too much but I’ve never had so much enjoyment trying to learn jazz and I can’t believe I’m finally applying altered and diminished scales to my improvisation lines.
I like the teaching method of starting with the basic way of playing a tune and gradually watching and hearing how the chord voicings evolve and become more sophisticated. It seems the more advanced players use spread voicings over the tune/melody sections then switch back to rooted/rootless voicings when improvising their solo; at least this is what I believe they are doing. It's difficult to tell because they will quickly hit bass notes hear and there to full out the sound or maybe it's only when they are using rootless voicings. Anyway, I'll gladly wait for the next video so I can better understand what is actually taking place. Thanks You.
Was looking forward to this, but I felt that the idea from the first video was to help someone with accompanying themselves no? We’ve now just jumped to solo piano
Great intro! Will you be covering developing a swing feel? I've got the chords down (mostly) but swing and how to accent properly is still badly lacking.

Really great arrangement and a great tutorial, too! Thanks! Just FYI, the Google docs PDF sheet music not recognized by printer.
Thanks, the pdf works, just checked it.
Thank you! I think I just need to go to the extra step of downloading the PDF then printing it. Works now. Love the tutorials!
