    Thank you!! This is the first time I have tried a Grounding Exercise and it really helped me! I was heading for a panic attack before I started and this nipped it in the bud.
    God Bless you dear Emma and your beautiful family! You are a God Send to all of us who suffer from anxiety, depression and Panic disorder. 🙏🏼❤️🕊

    I want to genuinely thank you for making these videos free and digestible (which is a very helpful, when you're currently in a pinch). I've been suffering sooo much lately, and things have been getting worse by the day, but honestly, knowing that there's resources out here, that as detailed as this course exists, really eases my anxiety... and I thank u for that. Like, it's quite rare for professionals to create a series of videos thats specifically tailored to walk us through the nitty gritty of things as abstract as mental health/ emotional issues, so yeah, thanks again and keep up the awesome work ❤
    (currently binging the course and taking notes📝 let's try our best everyone!!! agh! gosh I hope I'm this optimistic irl😂😅😅)

    I am a nurse and even though I think I handle things pretty well (and hide my anxiety), sometimes I notice myself shaking when having a difficult conversation or when being assertive with a senior member of staff or a doctor. It’s a weird shake almost like rigours or a rattle. I really hope people don’t notice - often we’re walking in corridors when it happens so people aren’t often looking at me directly. I recognise logically I’m not in danger but I can’t help it... really hoping this helps me.

      I listened to something recently that helped me that said instead of thinking about your anxiety look and listen to whom you are speaking with and try to figure out where they are coming from, whether you agree with them, and whether YOU find something in them that is worthwhile whether it be their character or what they are saying. I used it all day yesterday at a gathering and it helped me and I learned more about them in addition.

    Thank you. This felt like a really simple meditation that allowed me to recalibrate my stress response. I think we often forget that what's bad about negative emotions is the feelings in our bodies. When we can ground ourselves in our bodies and remind ourselves that we are safe, we can start to recognize that bad feelings often aren't as bad as they first appear

Legs, buttocks, press down in seat and seat back. Notice breathing. Push hands together, release, pause, repeat x3. Eyes, you are here, safe. Notice whats in the room.

    Thank you for this grounding exercise. I shall use it when I feel anxious next time. :)
    First, scale my anxiety from 0 to 10.
    Then, sit down on a chair and feel how my feet touch the floor. Stamp a few times with them on the floor. Then feel how my legs, thighs, buttocks press on the chair, and how it presses on them. Then, feel how my spine touches the backrest of the chair. Erect my spine and see how it changes my breathing. Then press my hands together - feel my strength and warmth. Release, and repeat. Then look around in the room. Remind myself that I am safe there. Then go back and feel how my body touches the chair, how my feet touch the ground.
    At the end, scale my anxiety from 0 to 10 again to see if any decrease has ocurred. It might not always drop, but it most cases this exercise would be helpful.

  • @vdub8679
    @vdub8679 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The grounding exercises work fine if I'm in a "safe" situation. The situations I purposely put myself into are not "safe". In fact, most people would consider them to be risky situations where I need to respond with definite techniques to reduce the risk. Most of these situations happen suddenly and I absolutely need to respond/react quickly. My current response is freeze and close my eyes. Responding in this manner only increases the risk in these situations. What techniques can I use to stop freezing, keep my eyes open and respond appropriately? Even a millisecond of eye closing, freezing could be bodily injurious or in the extreme, deadly.

    Our thoughts for reason does not control the emotional center of the brain like the amygdala which controls the fight/flight response.
    What can counter your emotions is your body tools like breathing exercises or somatic exercises. These involve the ANS which regulates your sympathetic and parasypathetic nervous system .

    I permanently divorced out of verbal and psychological trauma abuse 8 years ago. I have had groups that use trauma inducing tactics since then. Whether it’s verbal or physical I can assure you that the “blows” are anticipated because they were a repeated surprise. There are times I remind myself to evaluate if the threat is in the moment or not. If this works then it will help. However, if someone is inflicting pain, then I’d say leave for a safer environment.

    This is amazing along with deep breathing I had learned feeling your feet to the floor hands etc but not the whole body if you can do this morning day and night it really helps with stress. FYI promo code didn’t work but I was looking for a hassle free blender but I found a 10% promo plus thanks for half off!

      I have the same issues. Had a panic attack while driving now I’m scared to drive. This is crippling, what can I do to drive again?

    • @mitchellmontgomery4534
      @mitchellmontgomery4534 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Driving is actually one of my more calming activities, because my panic attacks create an irrational fear of death it diverts all my attention to driving safe, even almost t boned someone the other day (signaling from left lane to right near a road so guy thought I was turning onto the road and pulled out in front of me) and even that didnt really set me off, heart dropped for a split second then I was fine. Try thinking of that, that you need your brain power to focus on staying safe on the road which will distract from your anxiety.

    Do you have any tips on how to do this while driving? I've been working on exposures and a huge trigger for me is driving. I try to relax my body and remind myself in safe but the challenge for me is I have to focus on driving. I cant do both at the same time 😔

      As a general calming technique doing intentional breathing for example breath in the nose for 5 seconds hold your breath for 2 seconds exhale through the mouth for 8 seconds. Do this 3x and see how you feel and repeat if necessary. That is something you can do while driving.

  • @jmf0113
    @jmf0113 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Speaking of "grounding". I suggest everyone check out the concept of "earthing." It is basically where your skin (feet, hands) are touching the bare ground (dirt/grass). The earth has a limitless supply of electrons that flow through your body and create an electrical homeostasis when you are grounded. Alot of legit scientific journals are now noticing a correlation between improved mood, sleep and overall lower stress levels when their subjects have been grounding for a certain amount of time.
    I actually bought myself a grounding mat, and I feel like a new person when it comes to my anxiety and stress levels.

      Hi Sheng! This woman has actually stolen, plagiarized, a copyrighted title "Therapy In A Nutshell",
      from a well known psychologist, Dr. Patricia L. Bay, LMFT, that came up with this name and the
      therapy behind it, over 20 years ago with her first book, tv show, live radio show, national tour and
      Spotify podcast! She is misrepresenting it as her own creation when it is not. If you want to follow
      the real psychologist that came up with the name and helpful guidance behind Therapy In A
      Nutshell, go to Dr. Patricia Bay's website. Here is the link for it patriciabay.com/. You can
      also follow the real Therapy In A Nutshell podcast on Spotify.
      open.spotify.com/show/6RlpicHXBXtcXxi0nbYkRK?si=mLAvJCNwRimTkPWmgmeoag.
      All of Dr. Patricia Bay's podcasts are free because she wanted to create a way for people to get
      the therapy that they need, even if they can't pay for it. As it should be. This woman should be ashamed of
      herself!

      @Tara Bedford calm down, you should be the one ashamed of yourself. This channel helps so many people, also for free. She doesn't claim to be someone she is not. If you dont't like the channel, go somewhere else.

    • @tarabedford8329
      @tarabedford8329 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Amber-wy9om I never said she is claiming to be somebody she is not. I stated that she had plagiarized and copyright infringed on another persons lawfully copyrighted work. I have nothing to be ashamed of. I don’t plagiarize people’s work and claim it as my own. But clearly that is something you are ok with. I also never stated that I am here because I like or dislike her channel. I have clearly stated in every one of my comments my intention, and that is to bring to light the fact that she had stolen the name of someone else’s work and she has been paid for using this name that she has stolen.
      If you’re going to comment back on all of my comments, even though they aren’t directed at you, then comment accordingly.
