I do have a GREAT therapist who actually has told me all of the things that are mentioned in these videos, but it's so hard to remember everything that she says. Sometimes we'll talk about what to do in certain scenarios, but those scenarios don't occur until 2 months or 2 years later. By then, I already 100% forgot what she said to do haha. I’ve actually found a method that has helped my anxiety. Of course, no method is perfect. Sometimes, no matter what I do, I can’t shake my anxiety, but this method has helped me more than any other. As much as possible, I try to focus on the present moment. I try to appreciate the simple pleasures in life, such as the gentle breezes of wind on my face, the smell of freshly baked cookies, or the relaxing sound of dripping water. When I fixate on the uncertainty of the future, that’s when my anxiety creeps in, but at the same time, when I reflect on the trauma of the past, my anxiety also starts to flourish. By focusing on the present moment, I alleviate my worries.

This ideal is what transformed my anxiety. I used to have major panic attacks, was caught in a cycle of avoidance and being miserable. When i learned to sit with it, to stop running away, to stop believing that my feelings will overcome me or would hurt me. Once you actually allow yourself to sit with it and let it do whatever it wants knowing it will release itself and that it’s just uncomfortable energy, it’s absolutely transforms it. That’s how i came out of it. I hope this gives hope to some people. It’s possible❤️

      @DemonPikachu 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes!!! Doesn't this world think about us ever, beyond punishing us so unfairly after setting impossible standards that we will never be able to achieve because of our conditions?! Hey corporatism, don't you think I want to be as successful as you, but after your incoherency has already crippled me like this in near all aspects of my life, I can't even easily get up out of bed to do things any bigger than basic life functioning needs? So when every ignorant prick parrots out "stop crying about your life situation, we alllll have it ruff, you just gotta get out there and work your butt off!!" I get feelings as if I'm staring death in the face. And a hollow emptiness of inevitability, knowing I will never be able to do this thing I always dreamed I would be able to, just to support myself. And don't you think that I'm only trying to do the least amount of work but still be paid really well because I know that all I can start doing is the barest minimum just to keep my body and mind health steady while I attempt to navigate a life challenge I've never done proper before? Because maybe the last thing I want to is to end up straining myself in some sort of bad way over time, inevitably causing a cascade effect that would jeapordize my standing or pay amount or actually hospitalize me? Hey boomers, I'm so exhausted I'm nearly dead. Do you know what dead means? I need life support. Shut up and keep me alive, or you just die for me instead. Fuck. Oh no, I wished death on boomers, how r00d!!! I won't be polite about survival, and I won't allow unfoundable excuses for anyone to use against the human mandatory requirement of survival. Make it happen or get out of my way, and I don't wanna hear a peep out of you or I'll give you something to really complain about. Everyone else reading this, be sure to credit and quote me if you want to spread my message. Go right ahead, make sure they see it. I want them all to know.

Your breath is directly related to your mind [brain] causing negative thoughts-anxiety For a relaxed life sit on a chair, back erect, hands on lap with palms upwards, eyes closed, be still and observe your natural incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 10-15 minutes or more. Let thoughts come. Slowly negative thoughts will reduce and relax the mind. Whenever you are free during the day or night before sleep sit or lie down still for a few minutes and observe your breath. Being still reduces negative thoughts. Feel the stillness flow within you. Make it a daily habit. Do the above meditation daily to have a good life. Best wishes and prayers. @Johnathan Taylor I’ve never had an acute panic attack, but GAD for a long time. Here’s a simple way to divert- At the first sign of repetitive negative thoughts, ask yourself If the outcome of whatever is bothering you will be positive if the looping thoughts continue. It won’t. The result will be the same whether you worry or not. The only thing the anxiety will do is make you extremely uncomfortable. Every time.

The pandemic has very much exacerbated this in many many people, myself included. Since I've been in therapy before it did not get as bad as I've once had it before, but it did get worse during this time. Something that helps also is learning about black & white thinking from DBT coping skills.
One major thing I did to stop it, the first time I noticed health anxiety getting really bad, was to tell myself I refuse to focus on the symptom I am worried about. Let's say at on point it was my skin, freckles moles red spots colors etc. I would look at it, examine it, worry about it, think it's not normal. Then when I decided I was going to stop, I told myself I am no longer allowed to inspect my skin. At all. Not even think about it! After that moment, whenever I found myself starting to worry about my skin, or start looking at my skin, I would say to myself NO!! And immediately FORCE myself to change my thoughts, change the topic of thought in my head, to anything else. It was a really big struggle, and at first the thoughts keep coming back because you're trying to push them away, but it doesn't matter. Just distract yourself, keep distracting, DO NOT GIVE IN to thinking about the symptom. Over time, this gets easier to do. Eventually, you forget about that symptom. I would say maybe takes a month to fully forget the symptom. The first few days are hardest, after the first week it's a little better, after second week it gets easier/less often.
If you try this let me know!

I think I got so used to having “good days” in terms of little to no anxiety (like 3/10)
That I forgot to stop struggling. Mr Anxiety is so funny. I was starting to get anxious that I was anxious fixating on perfection rather than progression.
We got this. Just let the anxiety be there. Do not wait for it to leave. Change your reaction to “no reaction” this slowly breaks that fight/flight cycle.
    Good luck guys 🤍

10 years ago, I worked in a school that had a lot of problem kids, and I was stressed out. It was my first job, and I felt I had to prove myself. I was overwhelmed, and I made a lot of mistakes tryiing to figure out what to do. I sometimes had nightmares about going to work. In the end, I lost the job, and felt disappointed in myself. Even though, now I can see better. I realized I didn't know what I didn't know. It was the best I could do at the t time. I forgive myself and the people who made my life miserable at that time. I felt like that police officer that has to see horrible things over and over, year after year. I would love to share my best friend's story with you to help you understand where real peace and comfort can be found. God bless you.
      Precious Memories-By Sonya Lakey
      Family Story
Little did our family of six know that Friday evening, September 24th, 2021, would be the last night our family would be complete. We laughed together, played games, sang, and enjoyed listening as our 16-year-old son, Ethan, played the piano for us. I packed a lunch for Ethan for a church mountain hike he was going on the following day.
My mother (who was visiting from out of state) and I woke early with Ethan on Saturday morning. He hugged me and smiled, never pulling away or rushing me. He got in the car, waved, said he'd see me later and he loved me. It was hard to watch my "new driver" heading out on his own that morning. As Ethan pulled out of the gate, I turned to my mother and said, "It's just so hard letting go." Little did I know how much "letting go" I was really doing. That was the last time I saw Ethan. He did not make it home that evening.
That afternoon, a friend tried to contact my husband, leaving an urgent message to call him back. He tried several times to return the call to no avail. As we were preparing supper, an overwhelming feeling of deep concern for Ethan filled my heart. I quietly blinked back tears. I glanced out the window, half expecting to see a police officer pull up to the house, but no one arrived. However, within a few minutes, a patrol car DID pull into the driveway. In my heart, I feared the worst. My husband and I went out to meet the officer, who confirmed our fears. Hesitantly, he told us our son had fallen off of
a bluff and had succumbed to his injuries. Our hearts were crushed; they still are.
Yet, in all of our brokenness, deep, continual grief and loneliness, our family has such a blessed Hope and assurance that we will see our dear son and brother again. You see, when Ethan was a young boy, he was saved; he put his faith in Jesus alone to forgive his sins and to take him to Heaven when he died. He realized some very important truths from the Bible that he would want to share with you.
      His Story
Everyone is a sinner. Sin is any violation of God’s Law. God is holy, just and righteous, and He cannot allow sin in His presence. Ethan realized that he - like all of us - had sinned; and his sin separated Him from God.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; ” (Romans 3:23)
“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” (Romans 5:12)
He understood that, because of his sin, he deserved to spend eternity in Hell.
“For the wages of sin is death;” (Romans 6:23a) [Wages: price]
“But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8)
Ethan believed that Jesus, God’s Son, paid the price for all sin when He died on the cross - because His sinless sacrifice was the only thing that could satisfy the just demands of a righteous, holy God. Jesus was buried in a borrowed tomb, but He arose the third day, triumphant over sin, death, and Hell. Jesus is alive today!
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)
Ethan was sorry for his sin, repented (turned), and received by faith the free gift that God offered to him.
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13)
“...but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23b)
Because of this great salvation, Ethan lived his life serving Jesus. He worked hard to spread this Good News to the world. He is alive in Heaven with Jesus today; and because of this great HOPE in Christ, we know we will see him again soon - not because he was a great kid, but because of his faith in the great Saviour!
“And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” (John 10:28)
      Your Story
What about you? What if you had fallen to your death that day - What if you were to die today? Where will you spend eternity - Heaven or the Lake of Fire? There will not be any parties in the Lake of Fire. It is a place of eternal torment for those who reject God's Son.
The Word of God is very clear that there is only One Way to Heaven.
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6)
We did not know that Ethan would step into eternity that day; however, because he put his faith in Jesus alone for his salvation, Ethan was ready to go. Some day - perhaps today - you will take your last breath here on earth, and you will step into eternity. Where you spend eternity is determined by what you do with Jesus Christ. Will you accept Him or reject Him? You are not promised another day or another breath. Eternity begins soon - Are you ready?
“...Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved…” (Acts 16:31b)
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13)
“(...behold, now is the day of salvation.)” (2 Corinthians 6:2c)

Yes, ALL of those. And I work hard to educate myself and make it better. It works, I relax, it's going quite well for a while. Then there is hope and I almost allow myself to be excited and joyful. One day, a scent, the wind blows on a beautiful day, a dog barking, an almost forgotten person walks by are all reminders and my throat closes. I brace myself to be flooded with anxiety. Unpredictable, but once I perceive uncertainty about a situation that triggers me off the cliff I go. Isolation brings the most relief, I don't recognize myself. I can't remember the last time I felt true joy, that feeling to breathe openly and no tension in my body

I like this lady and her calm delivery. Very helpful to many I’m sure. But there are lots of therapists out there telling us how best to manage our anxiety disorders when the vast majority have never lived with one. I cringe a bit when therapists tell of how they once got highly anxious in a certain situation. Because unless they’ve been the victim of an anxiety disorder and can somehow explain how they managed to shake it off, they will never truly understand us and we will struggle to take them seriously, or believe in them. To all you sufferers out there, you’re not alone, stay strong!

Although I do not with anxiety attacks on anyone, it is comforting and reassuring to know that you know hat its like. I've asked some therapists in the past "have you ever had a panic attack" or "have you ever been clinically depressed", and when the answer is "No" (or "Not Yet") it kinda has me feeling we cannot totally relate, no matter how good they may be.

This was very helpful advice. I've been struggling with chronic pain all over my body for over a year due to stress, anxiety, and unwanted intrusive thoughts and I haven't figure out a way to truly deal with them but fighting against the pain and trying to plead with God to make the pain go away isn't going to make things much better. As a Christian I've been praying to make this pain go away but it really doesn't help. The thing I should be praying for is to have the courage and strength to process the pain as opposed to getting rid of it completely.

Re: running away from the monster/letting the monster catch you. When I heard you say that, I was reminded of this verse from Elton John's epic 1970 classic song "Indian Sunset" where the protagonist in the story decides to stop running and face his pursuers, even though it was essentially a hopeless situation. This beautiful song has always been extremely powerful and emotional for me - and hearing your advice on "letting the monster catch you" -- and my brain immediately connecting it to Bernie Taupin's lyric -- viscerally resonated within me.
"Now there seems no reason why I should carry on
In this land that once was my land I can't find a home
It's lonely and it's quiet and the horse soldiers are coming
And I think it's time I strung my bow and ceased my senseless running"

I have to admit that for most of my life I have been the ultimate procrastinator. I have made every excuse in the book to wait until the last minute to accomplish tasks. After my daily meditation this morning, I began to realize just how much I have been putting off. I quickly became overwhelmed in my thoughts and began to catastrophize. Sounds funny that one would begin to catastrophize the completion of tasks, but I did. Anyhoo, I immediately thought to create a list of any outstanding tasks that need to be accomplished, and commit myself to accomplishing one small task a day. Thankfully I created a small list this morning and tackled a few of the tasks that I had written down. Then, I found this video on TH-cam. I never really thought of myself as an avoider before, but it all makes perfect sense. I’ve been so comfortable avoiding important things for so long that I have refused to deal with them. In refusing to deal with them, I am only fueling the fires of anxiety. I so look forward to viewing your other videos to gather tools necessary for healing. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and your desire to assist people on their healing journeys.

I've had chronic pain for 9 years. After signing up to Rick Olderman's physio course I learned that the pain in my hips, pelvis, spine and neck were NOT as a result of a prolonged violent sexual assault 9 years ago. The pain was from all the emotions and stress I was holding in my body. I'm still learning how to deal/process emotions as I pushed EVERYTHING down after the assault, including the memory of the event itself. I was shocked and amazed that all my pain was from that. I had literally knocked my spine and pelvis out of place with everything I was holding onto. I just found your channel and I will be making good use of your playlist. I’ve never had problems with anxiety until 2020. Between everyone walking around in fear of each other, forced mask wearing that makes me feel like I’m going to suffocate, all the political unrest, and having disrespectful noisy neighbors, it all got too much for me. I’ve been sick since this pandemic started a year ago, have come down with burning mouth syndrome, clinching teeth, sore neck muscles, migraines, I’ve been miserable.
I want relief so badly and everything to go back to how it was. I don’t even feel life is worth living in this new normal.
I’m going to try relaxation methods and taking this advice.

People ask me how I stay so positive and happy and I reply that I have a shield around me .... and anyhow I have two choices to be miserable or calm and confident, in control of my reactions. Some people get worse with exercise. When you're anxious, body is releasing adrenaline. Exercise adds more adrenaline, which in turn can make some people feel even more anxious and worse. People like that can't reliably use exercise to cope with and come down from anxiety or panic. Mindfulness meditation, gentle stretching, may work better for people like this. Meditation is a practice so do it on days you don't feel anxious and days you do, so that you get used to doing it and it comes naturally to you, that will help you reap the benefits of it better

I've had an anxiety disorder with agoraphobia for over 25 years now and one of the things I struggle with the most is what I call "stage fright anxiety". Just thinking about going to the store before I actually go out will put me into a state of anxiety. I remember about the times I've had anxiety while out and it slowly builds up. But a large portion of the time because I push myself once I get to the store I come to terms that I'm not going to have an anxiety attack and start to calm down. Most of the time I have more anxiety thinking about a situation that could cause me anxiety then when I'm actually in that situation.

Then when my current boyfriend became verbally and emotionally abusive it triggered these trauma responses and coping mechanisms . I was doing avoidance anxiety and I thought that I was “dealing” with my anxiety. It was actually making it worse. Great video. Be careful what you feed your mind. To feel better reduce negative thoughts and overthinking. Avoid comparing with others, reduce negative social media and avoid constipation as it affects the mind instantly. Your breathing is closely related to the brain [mind] and gives relief from stress-anxiety. To relax sit on a chair or lie down, neck straight, eyes closed, avoid moving too much and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for 5-10-15 minutes or more. Never meditate with expectations but with awareness. Don’t fight your thoughts. With daily practice the mind will relax. No deep breathing needed. Observe your breath sensations before sleep, in college, at work, taking a walk, when reading, etc.etc. Like me, make this a lifetime daily habit to have a better life. Best wishes--Counsellor.

I am working to overcome rumination. I started thinking of "the thoughts" as synthetic properties that automatically filter out of my thought processes. I am learning to incorporate organic thoughts, acts of kindness, healthy living, and putting those thoughts into goals and actuating tasks to complete those goals. If I summarize thoughts of myself, should I think of someone else that way? Am I being a good neighbor to other people and would I want it done to me? I would not mistreat myself, so I should not treat others that way and I will make every effort not to. I will make every effort to be kind and decent to myself and to others and to dodge the drama where necessary. Some people get offended by everything thing big or small, but in-reality the offense is in the eye of the beholder leaving the offended at fault by default. Everyone chooses how to think, react, behave, and when or when not to be offended. I have learned to let things go, synthetic process: translate that into organic processes. Re-align positive goals and complete those tasks. I stopped feeling sorry for others because everyone in life makes their own choices. When someone’s life is in turmoil, I lend a helping hand.

I cried. This is not just me with my anxiety, but me with my insomnia, a 3-year old problem now. My life has been about it. All I talk about and think about is how poorly I've slept and how bad my anxiety is. I do everything to cure it. I've tried all the supplements on the shelf, done all sorts of treatment, spent so much money. A friend has often told me this- what you focus on, you get more of, and I didn't want to believe it.

@@TherapyinaNutshell Dear Emma, I don't know if you will see this reply, but I've been battling with this question for nearly two years now, and I've been writing this in my head for days. I am familiar with CBTi. I have very mixed feelings about it. 5 years ago I read Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker. I know this book is demonized among some CBTi therapists, but it's a very scientific book, and at the time, it changed my life. I adopted lots of healthy habits. I gave up caffeine, started turning off my phone and all devices from 8 am-8 pm, and was fascinated to learn about what happens when we sleep and what happens when we don't, a new science. I preached the book to all my family and friends. I felt empowered by this new knowledge, felt like I wanted to be part of the mission to spread the word and to have sleep education be part of the training of teachers, parents, nurses, musicians, athletes, and all doctors. But like many other people who read the book, when I actually developed insomnia (which started after my Covid-19 infection in 2020), all that knowledge turned against me. The anxiety about sleep skyrocketed, and it was only last year that I finally came to acknowledge that this anxiety itself not only exacerbated but maybe even caused chronic insomnia. Being a scientifically-minded person, I dug into sleep medicine textbooks. CBTi is older than most of the new discoveries about sleep. CBTi always says that the most important thing to communicate to patients, and I quote from the Principles and Practice of Sleep Medicine (Kryger, Roth, 6th ed), is to "not give too much importance to sleep. (...) Do not catastrophize after a poor night’s sleep. Insomnia is very unpleasant, but it is not necessarily dangerous to health, at least not in the short term." Other books on CBTi say insomnia is unpleasant because it causes "daytime sleepiness", that this is its major consequence. (Which is actually not true in my experience: people with insomnia are tired and sleep-deprived but hyperalert, and napping is very difficult). CBTi coaches all over the internet say that you must "educate yourself" that "insomnia is not bad for you". I'm sorry, but I don't believe this. The findings about sleep in the last 20 years all contradict this. Some of those therapists say very important things, very useful things, but as soon as I see a video "debunking Matthew Walker", I am turned off and I cannot come back. I read some of those debunking articles, and they are so unscientific and so full of spite that there is no comparison to me. But modern sleep science, and Walker's book, on the other hand, completely ignore the factor of anxiety, how destructive and powerful anxiety about sleep can be and how impossible it can make sleep. It has zero empathy for people with actual insomnia because, in my experience, people with insomnia are precisely those who value sleep, who know its value, who are extremely sensitive to the effects of sleep on their mind, body, mood. All those studies conducted to show how sleep affects every aspect of our health and what actually happens when we sleep less, all of them are things that insomniacs already know- the slower memory and reactions, the deepening lines on the face, the headache, the bad temper, the need to cry, the carb cravings, the suppression of one's prefrontal cortex. As a musician, I immediately notice that my ability to sight-read music (and to enjoy myself while doing it) is drastically affected after just one hour of less sleep. It is not "blaming it all on lack of sleep", it is what lack of sleep actually does. Some people need to be scared enough into sleeping, but some of us cannot handle more anxiety. How does one acknowledge and deal with anxiety about sleep without necessarily disregarding and belittling the science? Can there be a CBTi that acknowledges the science rather than ironically contradict it but still makes it possible to deal with one's fears and expectations and how they get in the way? CBTi still uses the same methods and same lines of communication that were created in the 80s or even earlier, while the science of sleep has seen revolutions in findings in the last 15-20 years alone. Will CBTi catch up, and how? How can I trust SRT after all that I've read about the effects of sleeping less? Are there actual MRI studies that show that it consolidates sleep in the long run? I need to know it does so I can trust it, because two weeks into SRT, I couldn't handle how much worse my headaches became, how much more dysfunctional I became during the day. Is my longer time in bed actually fragmenting my sleep? Are there studies that actually show this? Is this just a theory? Is it really healthy and really right, after all that we've learned about sleep and circadian rhythm, to tell someone whose bedtime is 9:30 to delay it till midnight? I don't remember what it's like to get a good night's sleep. I've had insomnia for 2.5 years, chronic anxiety and nightly anxiety attacks (from other triggers) for a year, and I know that I NEED to think differently. But I also don't want to lie to myself. I don't want to be told to lie to myself. I don't want to be taught not to care, unless not caring actually makes that which you care about get better. If this is really the case, I want someone who will say that, not that sleep is not important. I want a therapist I can scientifically trust, who can find a way to marry the reality of science with the reality of the power of the mind and of our thoughts. I want someone who will acknowledge the science but still convince me that this or that technique are worth it in the long run, because in the long run, my sleep will be better.
But maybe I'm the loser in the end, because I've been struggling for over three years, maybe because of my refusal to bend. I know I need help. I need help. I need help. I need help I can trust.
If you've read all the way, thank you so much. I really appreciate you and felt like I could address this question to you.

Glad she mentions tinnitus, it's probably the most anxiety-inducing chronic ailment.

Ways to tell you're making your emotions (anxiety, depression, etc.) worse:
    1. You judge emotions as good and bad
    2. You're stuffing (your emotions down)
    3. You're negotiating (with the universe, e.g. "why me?")
    4. You're shaming yourself
    5. You're catastrophizing
    6. You're checking (which tells your brain to amp up your emotions)
    7. You're distracting
