    Great to see some wholesome content on TH-cam. An uncle passing on knowledge to his niece that might one day save her life. Great series on the channel

    John has a real talent for being quick yet getting a lot of concepts understood well. Good lessons and well taught.

    So cool how a lot of martial arts principles translate over to operating guns.

    I got my first POM from John Murphy’s class in March. My wife stole it from me the first day so I had to order more. I hand them out to friends and family when they come over. I even keep a couple of trainers around to give them a brief lesson before I give them one.

    I saw John demonstrate several months ago the difference between standing straight vs hunched over with the head forward by having someone push against both postures. I have to say that I was a little skeptical that there would be a such huge difference so I had my wife push against me in both postures and I was totally amazed.

    Great video John. This is one of the secrets to handgun shooting that most instructors fail to show because they were gifted mass and strength. Small frame guys like me have to work extra hard on technique and optimizing structure. Best part of combining this technique means you don't need to use a lot of effort to manage the recoil which lets you move smoother and is naturally faster.

    The “stand up straight and lean back” is appropriate for air pistol target shooters, but not for something with recoil.

Maybe a video regarding the same subject but with a sub compact or compact pistol. Thanks! Again, this was a great video

    What seems to be the most pervasive is leaning forward, combined with shoulders rolled forward, locked out arms, and the head jutted forward and tilted up slightly to see through the sights. Does any vertical movement of the head weaken structure, regardless if up or down?

    • @ASPextra
      @ASPextra  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I tilt my head back, not for balance, but to see my sights through the bottom part of my glasses. Maybe a red dot would help.

    • @davidcumbie1039

      I had same issue; got a red dot. Yep, it definitely helps. I now have red dots on all 4 of my pistols.

    • @ASPextra
      @ASPextra  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah when you're using bifocals that makes it difficult. A pistol mounted optic might be a good solution.

    • @skepticalbadger
      @skepticalbadger 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It doesn't. Elbows to the side is far stronger if you don't have much arm strength; stops your arms from folding up under recoil.

      @@ASPextra i can generate power and see ample with a tucked chin. Examples...Mike Tyson, Canelo Alvarez, i.e. most boxers...i think most people see a high chin as more of a liability than a benefit in vision or power. I can look through my "brow" and still see my opponents face and feet. But to each their own! Glad you train Jitz tho! Lol

    • @ASPextra
      @ASPextra  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're applying stuff that potentially only applies when in close proximity to someone punching you in the face to a totally different problem in a different context, and that is sub-optimal. And Anderson Silva and any current boxing or MMA champ shows that the tucked chin is a thing of the past.
