    McCandless is one of the most lyrical saxophone players ever. Such a unique voice. Huge influence on me. I've never thought he got the respect he deserved.

    It's interesting to play Al Demiolas version of Ralphs song then play Ralph Towner play it.
    and you really see how limitted Al Demiola is with a plectrum compared to Towner who has total freedom and no limitations,what I find most amazing about Ralph Towner is he can play all that with the most incredible feeling and heart he is truely a ledgend

      I'm glad that Di Meola plays with a pick rather than finger pick, because playing with a pick is a part of his unique style. I wonder why Di Meola likes this song so much. I like Di Meola's compositions, and Astor Piazolla's compositions more.

    • @jamestucker457
      @jamestucker457 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both excellent musicians to be sure. Both bring something special with their playing style . Then you get someone like Tommy Emmanuel who can do both, play with finger picks, no picks, or plectrum. All brilliant players though. I'm a huge fan of Ralph and always have been. He brings more of a piano style due to his experiences with that instrument early on. Always a delight to see and hear. Particularly in person.

      @@paxwallacejazz Yes, I’m sure he knows they’re all American … I believe the core of the comment, tho, was that Americans are lazy listeners, and have little appreciation for Oregon’s music … justly, it’s hard to categorize, a trait that they’ve encountered their entire career … that said, Americans are wholly not used to concentrating on music past the three minute mark … a trait that Europeans and Indians don’t suffer from
