When I moved to San Francisco as a teen in 1975 one of the first things I did was see Oregon, a dream come true. Time for me to do a deep retrospective on one of my all time favorite bands.
Ralph Towner is Genius composer. This Composition is like a meeting between Chopin and Paul Mccartney. Beautiful and melodic on another level. Oregon are the greatest, and Ralph one of the greatest composers in modern jazz ever. Hand in Hand is one of Oregons best compositions a touch stone track.
There are many fantastic artist whom I've treasured in my lifetime but Oregon has always been one of those spirits that have always hit me straight in the heart on such a deep level. I truly that my life would not have the same if not having discovered them in the early 70's as a teen. Bless you Oregon for the love you've given
When music goes beyond music is when music is music... Ralph Towner is an example of that... I just have to say thank you with all my heart...! Life bless you all! And let's put our hands in the hands of another! Hand in hand! Long life to Oregon! From Chile, a big thank you! And Paul's bass clarinet is superb...
Roberto Aymes Tengo a un lado mio este fabuloso acetato y también el recuerdo cuando Oregon tocó en el Centro Cultural Universitario con Sacbe hace mas de 20 años, de lo mejor de mi vida.
The final harmony is the home/tonic of the piece, C major. But what makes it special is how Towner, the composer, leads up to it: Ab-Bb-C, with the Ab functioning like a minor iv chord (F minor). It's a familiar progression, but effective. Same as the end of The Beatles song If I Fell.
I absolutely love this song. It's been so long since the last time those beautiful chord progressions had made it into my ears. This music must not die.
The ascending, descending melodic line.A true to form of a Ralph Towner classic motif.. Exquisite hauntingly beautiful.I saw them do this in concert, it was pure heaven. Maestro Ralph Towner is a true American composer.Sadly we might never see this group perform again do to management ,the locality of where the members live and age.But we can only hope.Love this song.
@@frednow i am not an expert, i agree the final chord is C major. But i hear Em in the beginning, though. Many pieces by JSB are in minor modes ending with major chords... Anyway, it's ambiguity which makes this piece so brilliant. Not a defined tonality, IMHO.
@@douzilles the key signature is C major, and the very first chord is also C major, specifically Cadd2/E, a C major chord with the major third (E) in the bass and the 2 (D) added to the triad. In other words, the piece might be in C minor but ends with a C major chord. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Picardy_third

Not sure why, but it moves my soul so deeply. To stumble just by a random search on this kind of song..

This melody could go on ever and ever, it's like a double mirror, the reflection of the notes goes on magically forever!
Yes
I've always enjoyed the music of Oregon. First saw them on PBS, then later on TH-cam.

The guitar solo is just out of this world. And the final harmony, perfect.

@@frednow yeah, familiar progression but unexpected in the context of the piece!
douzilles I hear it as more of an inevitability. Which is what makes it so satisfying.
Yes, absolutely, i agree ❤️❤️🙏🙏👍

Anyone know the tonality of this tune?
begins in E eolian... (NOT RIGHT) but then, lots of sharps and flats!
@@douzilles No, not E aeolian ... that's a minor mode, this piece is in a major key. C major, actually (check the last chord of the piece).
C major
