Crabbing season is right around the corner, but there are a lot of things that I need to get done before the season starts! The roof on the Southern Girl needs to be reinstalled, the problem is that it needs some reinforcement. I also have to get all of my crab line organized and knots tied. There are a bunch of little things that still need to be done and it feels like they are really adding up!

Looks like your pots will be 65’ apart this year 😂😂 love the videos!
I was thinking the same thing, that up north math is completely different then how we do it in the south. 🤣
Looks like AJ got another day of work 😂
@@fvsoutherngirlyou drive square head lag bolts with a hammer, we use them to mount brackets to power poles. I usually use a 12 point socket tho and it works great. You just can’t over tighten them. Keep the videos coming!!!!!!
I was screaming Nooooo!!! 😂😂
Crab math
Find a 12 point socket that will fit the square head screw..
8 point works better.
Ball peen hammer
They also make a universal socket that just has a bunch of pins that push it when you push it up to any bolt. Fits everything out there.
@matthewkendall1861 those universal sockets are awful.
Universal sockets are as good for a socket as they are a hammer
Barehanding fiberglass exhaust wrap and only regretting not having sleeves. 146% boat guy, not like there was any doubt. Madman.
Wrap your exhaust wrap with aluminum hvac tape.
Thank me later.
He's wearing lunchlady gloves😂
I didn't see them on that initial roll, I did notice them on the second. lol
@@fastinradfordable seems like that would make sense. I thought for a second that it would just get hot but with the heat wrap in between it shouldn’t. Or does hvac tape just not conduct the heat? Sorry may sound dumb.
Man I grew up comercial fishing and shrimping. Watching your videos brings back soooooo many memories.
Love watching you work. It makes me feel i am not the only one doing 5 min of work and 2 hours of searching for a tool i just had in my hand.
Half my work day is chasing things I just put down
Can we all just pause to appreciate that beyond the self evident humor and self-deprecation, Luke may be one of the most positive and wise people of his age… give your nuts a tugs while you are down there.
18:26min mark is me every time I work on something in the Engine Room
Ingenuity at its finest.
He belongs with the Gen X crowd for sure.
Figure it out with scrap.. bend it.. grind it.. weld it.. bolt it.. bitch at it on the way...
And it works
75 ÷ 2 = 32.5 ??close enough for crabbing!
When the grease gun gets stuck, unscrew the metal fitting on the end of the grease gun a little bit(the coupler that fits over the zerk) and it will come off. Easier than changing out a zerk which may end up breaking off from rust.
Nothing better than me laying in bed watching you work! Great job luke.
Glad you enjoyed!
I used to resemble a lot of this. "Shade Tree Mechanics". Not meant to be anything other than complimentary. Means you don't let silly little things like lack of the exact tools and hardware, get in the way of accomplishing things. Just "Git 'er done!" Love your videos Luke. Great mix of humor, common sense and good hard work! Something this country is sorely in need of more of. ONWARD AND UPWARD!
Couldn't agree more lol. You said that perfectly
Luke im a 70 year old man i love watching you.thank you
If you weren’t such a standup crabber…you’d be a great sit down comedian 😎
Just found this channel. I have been watching all the old videos. I have a lot of respect for how hard a worker you are!
“Dinosaurs in… and you just get hot noise out.” LOL 😂✌️
The bait shop comment is hilarious. Everyone is an expert
Hey Luke the noise you heard when you started the Tundra that went away was a secondary air injection pump! It's pumps extra air into the exhaust to increase the oxygen across the catalytic converter to reduce emissions on a cold start.
75 ft / 2 = 37.5 ft not 32.5 ft but close enough i guess haha
Crabber math
I thought the same as soon as he said it lol. That's quick somd mafs
If you know how to do correct math , you are not a crabber.
Your ADHD at 12:15 is so freaking relatable 😂
Watching Luke has made me ADHD! 😁
I don’t know about everyone else, but the rooster cockadoodle dooling in the background is great!
Haha! It’s fitting.
As a fellow blue collar worker, I can relate to your many thought processes, and dropping something in a hole, find it, and then drop it again back in the hole
“I just made it all the measurements” my favorite quote of the decade 😎
OBSERVATION wow, never dawned on me that the pots are tethered together on the sea floor. I see them go overboard one by one, but never knew. Thanks luke for teaching something new.
Not all pots are run this way.
Not everyone does it that way but a lot of guys do that fish big rigs
Omg Sir, you have made my day. I too do the same when making things. I have stared at many a projects to get them done. Thank you so much. Good luck this season.
Thanks!
21:41 I like the glove being used as a cushion for the hose
The exhaust wrap works alot better and keeps fiberglass down if you soak it with water first
Also tightens it when it dries.
Wrap it with aluminum hvac tape after.
Thank me later.
@fastinradfordable seems like it would defeat the purpose of the glass wrap.
Glass wrap is mean to take the sizzle away from the burn. Aluminum will definitely add that sizzle back
I admire your work ethic, so many people today have gotten a bit lazy, expecting premium. Remember to take time for the family and self. God bless
When you do a "fish tape line" if you do about twice the length +5, 6 feet you can always leave the line in place and have a semi-permanent fish tape in place for next time, the extraz length lets you go back and forth completely both ways without issue.
that exhaust wrap is pure poison when you first heat it up lmao
The trash cans. Use a trash bag or some painting plastic. Cut a strip. Spray glue on it. And stick it on the inside of the trash cans to cover all the snag points even bottom.
Good idea
Bro!!! A pro tip here put your blade on backwards when cutting aluminum. Works like a charm I used to do this when I built composite decks and the top rails were aluminum
Literally commented this like 5 sec. Before you said it!!
He said that in the vid lol
There are days I miss being a crab fishermen (I work on tugboats now) then I watch one of your videos and I don’t miss it anymore lmao
These videos of watching you doing whatever are so entertaining.
Haha I’m glad you enjoy them!
Crane signals are easy.
Thumbs up/down, move the boom up/down
Hands together with thumbs pointing out, stretch the boom
Finger pointing up/down, cable up/down
Pinch of salt up/down cable up/down slowly 😊
😂 the retired guy stereotype is spot on. Had me dying laughing, just like the guy with the restored 66’ Chevelle that never leaves the garage; matter of fact it may even be the same guy 😂
😂😂 I know a few like that
Holy shit I believe I witnessed a miracle! That bracket you made, short of having some paint on it, was actually incredibly well made and thought out! I don’t believe it! I expected a 12mm ring spanner cut up and epoxied and zip tied onto the old bracket and a bunch of hose clamps but I was genuinely, legitimately surprised!!
I like ur idea better
Need 8 point socket to drive a square head lag bolts. Have a few that I got them cheap at flea markets. Have a 1/2" unusual 4 point socket for a 1/2" drive ratchet wrench which probably only paid $2 for the used thing 35 years ago and have used it to drive square headed bolt on Greenlee hand knock outs.
That Maryland math 😅😅
12 point socket for your square lags
I feel the same way when working on things. Of course I got 50 years on you. That is a beautiful engine.
The square head lags are drove in with a hammer. I’m a lineman and we use them on cross arm braces and are sent home with a hammer! We call them hard heads because of that only use a wrench to remove them.
Your running commentary as you work is too funny, thanks Luke 😂
I cannot get enough of your videos. Not even sure how I found them to be honest. Keep up the good work. Good to see a young person working hard for what they want and not just getting handed what you want.
Use an eight point socket on square headed bolts, you can probably get a set at Harbor freight
you need heat resistant lagging paste to put on the smoke stack it will hold the wrap on and keep the fiberglass contained. 13 yrs repairing ships.
Those are hard head bolts. They are used for building power line brackets on power poles. Just drive them in with a hammer and then you can back them out with a wrench.
Cleanest work truck I’ve ever seen
😂 I love watching your mind work! Hilarious, Cute, Genius MacGyver❣️✌️🙏💞🍀🫂
Work, your socket will fit the square head. The reason being if it does strip, you have more material there to take it out.
you can drive a sqaure lag with a 12 star socket
Had it in my pocket,,, now I need it,,, now it’s gone? LOL 😂 love it
That’s half my work day 😆
I’m sorry but I’m cracking up watching you put that hinge back while identifying with all your challenges. Been there, done that, got hundreds of t-shirts to prove it. God bless you Luke and good luck on the season.
Boy that shiny new engine sho' is purdy!. 😅
Btw if you ever need hinge pins and don't have any or can't find them you can strip the flux off of welding rods or use the correct gauge of non-fluxed rod. You just pick the right diameter welding rod cut to length and either spot weld one end or preferably bend the end 90° to give it an easy to pull on handle. They work great. In your application though I'd recommend stainless rod to prevent corrosion and a frozen pin in the hinge, lol.
Your work ethics have to come from your mother! Having lived in Korea and watched the wonderful people work and build things from nothing was amazing! I left Korea in 1968 and miss the people!
Square drive socket. Wet the fiberglass wrap first. It reduces the glass in your hands. Keeps you from breathing it as well.
Napa has stainless zip ties there perfect for holding that heat wrap.
For the smell in the truck change the cabin air filter ( if it has 1 ) figure a way to but some baking soda in like a plastic sandwich container with holes in the lid and just stick it under the seat. Then put a note on the dash or steering wheel so you remember to take it out in a couple month's. ( you dont need a accidentally situation with a police officer some day )
If you can find an 8 point socket they're specifically made for driving square fasteners, drain plugs, etc.
As a fellow Dirty Dena patron, happy what you are doing for our community!
8 point sockets are made for square heads. Or a 12 point socket will work
You can get square sockets or 8*
Point sockets instead of your typical 6 or 12 point sockets for square head bolts.
75/2 = 37.5 not 32.5, I hope that doesn't matter too much. Also buy an 8 or 12 point socket for the square lag bolts, it makes them way easier to put in.
Spray the wrap with silicone spray and it help keep it in place and less fibers after your done
Watching u inspires me to get my butt in gear. Ive been procrastinating on important things i have to get done before i have my baby and im 6 months now and only getting bigger. Also, watching handle that covering with no gloves had me itching like crazy. U crack me up and i really enjoy ur videos. For the record, i dont know how to do any of this so it all looks professional to me. I hope my son ends up having the ingenuity u have.
Square lag screws are used in wood construction and are often ordered for aesthetic purposes and provide a rustic look.
So definitely not practical or convenient like Luke said lol
Square head has been around forever. Lots of old farm equipment and early cars trucks. That's what 8 point sockets are for.
@@robertfandel9442 usually their square head would fit into a groove, thus eliminating the use of a tool, to hold it in place, as the nut is tightened.
Use a 8 point socket for those lag bolts.
As a fellow Marylander and small business owner I appreciate the doing it right the first way vs. time in the day sentiment. Good stuff.
You can drive square heads with an 8 pt or 12 pt socket
As someone with ADHD who's mind wonders A LOT... I really appreciate your constant jumping around and ability to task the way you do. I do the same. Feels like nothing is happening, but everything is slowly getting done!
Keep up the great work!
Don't forget to test those brakes! Lol,the hood slam at the end was par for the course.
The crowing of the rooster adds such authenticity to the story of garbage can prep!😉
square heads are a safety lag ... you can drive them with a 8 point socket of the right size ..any auto parts or HF should have them
You are seriously something !!!!!! But that’s the reason. I love your videos. Keep up the good work. Keep your head up.Tiny Houston MS
12 point socket bro! Gear Wrench!
For those square headed lags you might be able to find a 12 point socket that will work. If not they make 8 point sockets aka double square sockets and they will work on square headed lags. Another option is one of those universal sockets that has a bunch of spring loaded pins in it and works on just about any nut or bolt regardless of shape or size.
Good morning all!!!!
12 point sockets fit on square heads. Theres also double square sockets if youre feeling fancy.
for square lugs or screws, use a gator drill tool, or you can also buy a hex set for drills too, I use this for cars or home projects all the time since I got tired of keep turning a wrench
Use a high tooth count blade and leave it forward.
If you have problems with the clamps for the wrap on your stack turn them to the back
Better get on it Luke season is here in watching always wish you the absolute best
Look for an 8 point socket and that will work on the square lags
They make 8 point Sockets for square bolts, used on older farm equipment.
Hell yea !!! 😂the ending I can relate to on a daily basis.
Luke McFarland. Carpenter, welder, entertainer, crabber. 😀
Your hilarious! when talking to yourself about what you need to do and what you need to do it!! 😂😂😂😂😂😊
Keep on keeping on! Life is great!
How about making a small dredge system with your table to dunk pots in. Hook to a small cable let a pulley system yank the pot into the paint and pull it up the table. Dripping excess at the same time. Then you might not get covered in as much paint
Getting the exhaust wrap wet first helps it go om tighter and better.
Luke , You need 8 point sockets for square head lags. Great videos. You're a hard worker! Rusty
Thanks for watching Rusty!
12 point socket
Classic move, spit out the screws to pull the cap off your sharpie 😂😂😂
Soak the exhaust wrap in water 1st. It will stretch and stay tighter when dried.
Plus easier on the hands.
That wind is the power steering belt don't worry it just goes away after it starts to warm up a bit
use a 12 point socket for the square head lag screws to drive them.
They actually make sockets for square head bolts
That boom truck is mint
Watching Luke ramble about what he needs to do and in what order to do it is something I can relate to a lot I think we just get that from living on the bay I lose everything after I set it down and spend more time looking for than I do using it
Love the video Luke. Honesty is the best way.
Good installament.....getting geared up for the additional work! Excited to see how the stand turns out as well.....KEEP IT UP!
Turn the "hose clamps" over the elbow, then they won't be sticking out an area you'll be close to, they'll be over the engine
They make 8 point sockets for square headed bolts. I thoroughly enjoy your show.. reminds me of me when I was your age. I’m 73 now.. keep up the good content. Give my best to your bride.
