  • Has the Active or Dynamic Fuel Management system in your V6 or V8-powered GM car been slowing you down? Are you tired of the annoying shuddering of your engine and the drone it produces from constantly activating and deactivating cylinders? Meet Range Technology's answer: the AFM/DFM Disabler. Our module is plug-and-play, and reverts your vehicle back to stock when removed. Because no tuning is involved with your vehicle's computer, this product will not void the factory warranty. Not only does the AFM/DFM Disabler keep your vehicle running smoothly, it will have you running on all cylinders, all the time.

bought this for my 2014 Silverado 5.3 LT. No more hesitation, and its a good piece of mind to know that it will reduce the chance of lifter issues in the future. AFM seems like a good idea but its a flawed system. If you own a vehicle that can accept the module I would recommend anyone to get this. Honestly see no difference in the mpg's without the AFM. KEEP YOUR V-8 A V-8!!! A+

Thank you. I have a 2018. My truck’s engine light started flashing and my traction warning came on. Had towed to dealer two days later. Was checking my vehicle status while at dealer using OnStar diagnostic and it started showing all good. Went to pick up my Suburban because dealer doesn’t answer calls, for two days all day no answer. Left with my Suburban driving fine. Sitting, it may have let the lifters down and tech cleared it. Recommended replace cam shaft. I’m an easy learner. GM should be held accountable for this intentional design flaw. Drove week later over an interstate with a hill and on decline felt the change. Made it maybe 3 miles from the point of declining off the hill (known as spaghetti junction in Atl) and exact same location in the peach pass lane, engine flashing, traction warning on. I was able to get OnStar diagnostic both events. I started thinking heavily how could this happen in the exact same location while driving. The common thing was the hill, the change in the damn AFM and I have learned so much about it. Dealer gave me a quote over $9,500 to replace cam shaft and lifters with a frickin’ 24 month warranty. General Motors should be held accountable because this is designed to fail because it’s just another unscrupulous method of guaranteeing the money and a cycle of the same repair/replacement needed. Got an oil change on October 29, 2022 at same dealer, and on December 8, 2022 I had less than a quart of oil in my Suburban. It had began to knock when I crank it. My husband and I exited Hwy and checked oil on the 2nd system failure while we were on Hwy because of the knock. I was infuriated to see that dipstick nearly dry. Go to dealer and they show me all these passes / failed codes that were NEVER shown to me before but go on to say they’re not shown to me because the codes weren’t “current.” Basically I feel like dealership knew what was happening and waiting it out because it was inevitable and money on the books pending the ole’ AFM designed failure. I’ll be included in any class-action lawsuit on this. If GM wants to offer AFM, it should be designed to turn On and Off at the discretion of the driver. #HorribleGMC

If you own a GM 5.3 or 6.2 Buy this!!!! My 18 5.3l nothing but wired issues with the trans. Dealer trip after dealer trip. Got pissed off figured for 200 bucks maybe? Or trade this in... Momma I could tell in 5 mins. I was waiting for the dreaded odd ball shit to 3rd nope, then I was waiting for the intermittent clunk noise on down shift nope. Or the odd harmonic / shutter crap. Drove 1 hour in utter amazement it fixed the damn problem. Shifting normal all power its a v8 and stays a v8. And it woke up the motor. Unplugged it and put it my 14 with 6.2l to try with over 100k on it. Holy batman! It woke the motor up big time and ironically the transmission shifts better. Back to the 5.3l motor honestly I'm getting better fuel milage with this thing and the stupid miss that chevy dealer said is normal is gone. Thank you for provided a problem to all chevy owners and shame on gm for this disaster of an engine management system aka afm. I really like the fact it a simple as plug it it wait a few second for it to do it magic upon first plug in. then just start the truck and drive. Brilliant! And it won't void my warranty 😁 got to get a second one for the other truck. I'm just amazed and my wife drove it with it Un plugged and then plugged in and she it oblivious to car stuff and she even said the truck runs way soother shifts crisper and is just me or is it faster now when you push the gas pedal? Cause it moves..... I laughed she said I want one too

Just like any product that is plugged into your OBD port, you would need to remove it to plug in a scanner to read codes. When you're done, you can simply re-install the Range. Our products do not cause any check engine lights or errors.

Do you expect the IM readiness monitors to be cleared when using this? It's doing that on a 2015 Corvette, I was puzzled when taking it in for inspection the past few years and the monitor status would be incomplete. I only just confirmed it this year after I drove it without using it and getting all the readiness monitors to complete, and subsequently plugged the Range back in. Next time I checked it, the monitors again showed incomplete status.
Not a big deal but I do have to make sure I unplug it for a while prior to an inspection, or it'll fail due to the incomplete monitors.
I've never seen this mentioned anywhere else, so perhaps it's just the one I have that's got a bug in it or something, if it's not supposed to be doing this.

I've determined that the Range device clears out the IM readiness monitors when I have it plugged in to a 2015 Stingray; is this something anyone else has noticed?
It doesn't cause any failures of the monitors, only causes them to show an incomplete status, as if they were reset.
It's only apparent on a scan tool or when taking it in for an inspection, and it does the job of keeping it out of V4 mode otherwise. I just have to remember to unplug it and run it through enough drive cycles to get the IM readiness back up before taking it in for inspection.
The one I have is from 6 years back, so I don't know if the design has been changed since then.

I've read it will drain the battery if the vehicle sits for a few days. Still the case or has this been corrected? Or...is it just not true? Very interested in purchasing one.

Hey C Maz, that was an issue with an older release. It has been correct in a newer update. With that being said, if the vehicle is going to sit for over a week, it is not a bad idea to unplug it, to keep from any draw on the battery. Hope that helps answer your question!

Please see this excerpt from our Support page regarding emissions testing:
As with any device that plugs into the OBD2 port, you should remove the device and drive several miles before taking it into the center for testing. This will force the vehicle to reset all the "OBD2 READINESS MONITORS" and to be prepared for the emissions testing (whether it be on the rollers or just an OBD2 "sniff" test).
The Range module doesn't affect emissions but because we take control of the AFM/DFM system, the vehicle may have an OBD2 Readiness monitor show "Not Ready" because it wasn't allowed to engage cylinder deactivation.

Okay, this is the key information that is why my monitors were always incomplete when I took it in for inspection. It isn't apparent that this happens as there won't be any indication that the monitors were cleared; it has to be checked with a scan tool to know.
Definitely need to remember to run enough drive cycles without it plugged in to enable the monitors to run and pass before taking it in fire inspection.
Get a scan tool that you can verify they've all run before taking it in, because if two or more monitors are incomplete, they won't allow it to pass inspection. It takes not only miles, but drive cycles with cold starts to full operating temperature and fuel levels for the monitors to run.
