They are of course allowed to read it out first without properly grasping it in their head as a trial, they didn't expect their first tries on some of the lines to ever be used
When it's hundreds or thousands of canned lines across multiple characters, yes, it's absolutely acceptable to read it wrong a few times before getting a good take. A really shitty voice actor would be someone who read it once just decently and then decided they couldn't do it better.

I like the argonian as is. It makes it sound like she didn't realize at first who she was talking to then had trouble coming up with an insult. It makes me think that she doesn't have a lot of enemies in her life and the PC must've been a real jerk
You know, I actually think the argonian is more realistic this way. Most characters are written to speak perfectly as if they are robots, they never mess up or twist their tongue trying to say something and when scripts try to force it, it comes across as a bit superficial. This error from a real human being, left in the game ironically adds a little realism to the script. The elf is just hilarious though, rather than accidentally making a character more immersive, its like a fourth wall break that shatters immersion.
@@Top-Lip Movies do the same thing though. They prefer a professional dramatic-sounding tone as opposed to a totally realistic one; that's why people don't ever talk over each other or say "um" or mess up their words. Once in a blue moon they do inject such things and it seems to add a ton of realism. I wonder if the future trend is to tend more towards realism and they'll look back at today's movies and be like "wow so cheesy and melodramatic".
I like how they didn’t animate for the re-recording. so it looks like the NPCs have their mouths open, confused about what’s going on and when it will end.
IrritationNation That’s because these technically aren’t animated. The game is basically fed the dialogue in text and these lines, and it tries to match them the best it can. The text didn’t have the flubbed line so it probably doesn’t realise it’s still meant to be lip syncing.
There is also one in the german version of Oblivion. When you first visit Jauffre to give him the amulet he asks you "where do you get that?" and then he repeats the same sentence in a more angry voice.
Wolvandhiek Same reason every bethesda game is riddled with horrible bugs. Not. Enough. Gametesting. Like obviously there’s some fault in not double-checking audio before plugging it, but if someone played through trying to test everything they’d have heard this.
If this is a King Crimson reference, his stand is easier than fuck to understand. Either the entire meme behind it is based on false information on purpose or people are actually this retarded.
I like to think that her character really said “wait a minute, let me do that one again...” she’s just a very perfectionistic actor, and takes it WAY too far in real life.
According to another comment she offers speech training so you aren’t wrong. Sadly this mistake is, apparently, direct evidence that the game was made by lazy idiots.
To be fair, it's a pretty easy mistake to make. When the talent goes straight into a retry with no pauses, the editor just sees a continuous lump of audio unless they listen carefully to each recorded line. Considering how huge a game Oblivion is, I'm just surprised this video is only a minute long
Listening carefully to each recorded line is a main part of the job though. Really shouldn’t happen, especially multiple times in a project. And even if it does, QC should find and remove mistakes like this.
@@XanderEwald yup, that’s what should happen, and what does happen when you’re not given an impossible deadline. I’ve heard this game was incredibly rushed, so cutting corners is understandable. Those doing the individual jobs probably don’t have the final say on if the game release is delayed or not. Might’ve had no choice. I don’t know much about this game. But I have experienced a deadline where I worked an entire day, night, and morning without break and I was still late to school, and it wasn’t because I had procrastinated, but rather because of unforeseen circumstances. So in my opinion, the weird thing to me isn’t the cutting of the corners, but rather the need to, meaning someone’s desicion not to delay the game’s release
@@tonsoffun78 I was literally high on sleep deprivation when I got to school lol, it did turn out fine though, my lateness was excused and I got a good grade 😌 the dedication I used to have is scary
This isn't so much voice acting mistakes as it is audio editing mistakes. Voice actors tend to do multiple takes, and that's good. But the editing crew IS supposed to just pick one and cut out the rest.
Just because the editor fucked up doesn't make this less a mistake. if it werent't mistakes they wouldn't need to repeat. It were mistakes which were supposed to get edited out by editors.
chesekake You clearly don't know how acting work. Go search for voice acting on games and even on normal acting on movies, it's pretty common to do test takes before starting the real takes. They only do a "one take" reccording if they are doing a really hard perfomance, like for example during Red dead redemption 1 they had to make the whole performance in one take Because at that time the capture didn't had the "cut", but on almost every game, includding Bethesda games who don't use performance capture, they have the option to cut their takes and that's the job of the edditing crew. Even Roger Clark, probably one of the best Voice actors ever has said that sometimes the Voice actor has to test things first to find the best way to deliver the line.
@@slovnicurling9808 that's not how acting works, especially voice acting. Actors have to do multiple takes using different inflections and emotions, then the editors choose the best one
Lol guys. I know how voice acting works. Just watch the video, most of these are cleary mistakes because they didn't know what is the whole sentence or they just straight fucked up. Can we just appreciate just how over worked these voices actors were to make this game and how, in the end, it makes it such a cosy game (for me at least). Like being among old schizophrenic friends.
I actually thought that was supposed to be part of the line, because she was wandering around at night drunk or something. I would have never known it was a mistake
Honestly I'm impressed that these actors were able to make it through what only could have been marathon recording sessions for each of them and still deliver performances that occasionally created distinct characters. How many NPCs did each of them play? 100? 200? A nightmare for an actor.
When you think about it, you can't really blame the voice-actors sounding so lifeless. They voice HUNDREDS of lines, on what is probably a very low wage, upon a limited time. In fact, I feel kind of sorry for them. Poor fellas have to suffer through all this shit just to get made fun of thanks to the editors, and get a tiny amount of money.
Thorin he was damn near everyone in Skyrim. Random npcs, enthir, Clavicus Vile, Mercer Frey, Arch Curate. Plenty of others that I can’t think of but hearing his voice in nearly every quest, I only hear Nick valentine now
Quill-weave's genuinely doesn't sound like an accident on the VA's takes, but rather like the character herself is at a loss for words thanks to her anger at the player character.
There was also one with this dark elf lady where she also said wait wait lemme do that one again. Also, a lot of the beggars have like 3 different voices depending on which dialogue option you pick. Puny Ancus is one of them.
“I heard that the thieves broke into the Arcane University, the Imperial Legion Compound, and the Temple ALL on the SAME NIGHT!... waitaminuteletmedothatagain”
jeez :c poor voice actors. given awkward dialogue and even then the guys editing it together dont even bother to check and make sure the extra takes got spliced out
i'm gonna say it's pretty impressive for a game with this much recorded dialogue by so few actors to have 4 bloopers total and call it an overall success
GUCCIGANGGUCCIGANGGUCCIGANGGUCCIGANGGUCCIGANG Not to sound like a Bethesda fanboy, but you don't finally realize how much hard effort and work games like this take until you finally work on one yourself. Oblivion was a MASSIVE game with a LOT to do in it. I think we take for granted how much content a $60 game (at least $60 when it first came out) offers... *Looks at Overwatch when it first came out....*
I actually like Quill-Weave's mistake (is it even a mistake? Or was it intentional?), it sounds more immersive, like somebody has just walked up behind her and she calmly askes "What do you want?", then she turns around, recognises you, and then repeats her question in an angry voice whilst adding an insult that she stutters on - like she's so angry she's lost for words whilst also not expecting to meet you at that moment.

Sometimes, as a bit, I’ll back up if I have a speech failure, usually with a “let’s try that again”, to the point where I’ll leave the room and then walk back in to give it another go
I've beaten this game several times and never noticed this. I'm guessing it's because no one ever finishes their lines in my playthroughs. I usually ignore the voice acting and just read the lines in my head, skipping to the next when I'm ready.
Guard: "Body's still warm. There's... Body's still... Gah... Let me try that again. Body's still warm. There's a killer about. Yeah, I like that one." Everyone watching the guard: o_O
I was just thinking about this the other day: human interaction in real life is at least a little bit akward and clumbsy. Actors and characters are way to perfect in thier speech, or talk too rigidly. IMO people are more likely to talk like these "mistakes" IRL
Is he reaching though? People are often to repeat words in sentences they fuck up. Then Again, people don't usually repeat the same sentence twice to make it sound better.
Do you go over what you said all over again when talking to people? Also, watch more movies, many writers and directors incorporate these "mistakes" into their movies dialogues
I mean, I've watched a fair amount movies and (Television) series, and I hardly ever see mistakes in character's dialogue. Besides the odd Mispronunciation. Well, what I view as Mispronunciation anyway.
This is why i love Oblivion, sometimes you have a genuinely epic looking experience and then the NPCs turn the game into a comedic tv show probably from england.
It's really interesting, that guy looks and sounds like he came from like, Fallout: NV almost, but instead he somehow ended up in Oblivion, and he's just trying to pretend to fit in.

@@isaac3o4 THEY COULD'VE BEEN MOUNTAIN LIONS

Why didn't Bethesda notice this?
Wait a minute, let me say that again...
WHY DIDN'T BETHESDA NOTICE THIS?!
Wolvandhiek Same reason every bethesda game is riddled with horrible bugs. Not. Enough. Gametesting. Like obviously there’s some fault in not double-checking audio before plugging it, but if someone played through trying to test everything they’d have heard this.
This was back when Bethesda was much smaller. The simple answer is not enough money.
But who cares? It's hilarious to hear it! And if any game developer has a sense of humour, it's Bethesda!
now they are gigantic and make cash-ins just as buggy...
Matthew Robbins, the developers of Human: Fall Flat have a pretty great sense of humour, too.
When I was a lot younger I thought that “wait a minute let me do that one again” was a feature.

@@BlindGardener I unironically thought this as a kid and thus never realized at the time it was a mistake
Considering how huge a game Oblivion is, I'm just surprised this video is only a minute long
Yeah, even in my high school media classes when doing audio related tasks we were told to always wait a few seconds between lines for that reason

Honestly I'm impressed that these actors were able to make it through what only could have been marathon recording sessions for each of them and still deliver performances that occasionally created distinct characters. How many NPCs did each of them play? 100? 200? A nightmare for an actor.
You've got to hand it to the 1 guy who voiced everyone in Fallout 4 as well. lol
The actors in Morrowind had an easier time since all they did was ambient dialogue.
Silver Soul he was nick valentine , codsworth, every robot in the game, and a few others in pretty sure
