How white toner works

If you ever get the "memory supply error" I fixed it by removing the little chip from the top of the toner and replaced it with the one from an empty black cartridge. This tricked the printer into thinking it was just a regular old black cartridge. Be very careful not to damage the chip while removing and replacing it from the original black cartridge.

You can mix and match by using regular HP toners with a single Ghost White toner cartridge, or to get more vivid fluorescent colors use fluorescent Ghost toner cartridges for all the slots. It depends on what you want to achieve with your image.
Would this work for waterslide decals and if so would a stand alone white decal on clear waterslide come out right without the need of a background color. Also would this work with other laser printer or only this model of printer. Thank you for your time and help.

I recently purchased the HP Color Laser Jet Pro M452nw and the white toner direct from Ghost. Ran couple of test prints today on black 100% cotton using various full color graphic and text designs in .png format. IMO, the full color with white doesn't feel much different than a good quality thinner opaque paper for darks (still has noticeable hand/feel). Definitely no full raster background image, with out rasterization, would provide close to screen print feel. Typography design, vector line art, in color w/wht, or b/w have less of a hand. If I'm looking to do all white/single color in those types of graphics...I can get softer hand upon initial printing if use HTV, Flex Soft No-Cut or Koncert T laser paper.
If unable to find affordable non-convoluted method of rasterizing full background images, I may be looking to sell printer and toner.

Why does nobody make an inexpensive 5 toner printer? I'd spend a couple grand if I could have black and white toners working together seamlessly (preferably in A3). The alternative seems to be to buy two standard laser printers, and have one set up for black and one set up for white - such a waste of space?!
You have identified the most practical solution - have two identical printers, one for black and the other for white. This avoids the need to swap the cartridge. The reason there are no inexpensive 5 toner printers relates to demand. There are millions of people who need a standard printer for regular home and office printing, but only specialized people need a small printer that can handle white. Indeed the fact that you are specialized and can print in white is what makes your offering unique and compelling.
Hi, I've been eyeing up the Ghost White toner cartridge for my HP Laser Jet 200 MFP printer in order to print decals for my Warhammer miniatures. What is the advantage of using the Ghost White toner cartridge method instead of just printing on a white laser decal paper ?
The only issue with that I would have is that is lining up the registration on some of the smaller detailed things. To create CMYK image with Ghost, you have to run the paper through the printer twice. Once with CMYK toner and the other with the White toner cartridge inserted. The registration will never line up perfectly and could make it harder on smaller things.
@@uscuttervideos I see, so maybe instead of doing the two pass with the ghost while toner for smaller decals I would be better off just printing them onto White laser decal paper ? The disadvantage of doing that maybe would be ...? possibly the white outline around the edge? I dunno.

Is there any way to improve the white and colour alignment? The white layer seems to be off a few mm...
The issue you are describing is that when the paper is fed through the printer the second time it might not feed through exactly the same. To help minimize alignment problems you should always make sure that the paper feed path, the guides at the side and the paper itself is as straight as possible. In terms of the artwork, you will want to make the bottom white layer slightly smaller than the top layer so that if the paper feed is off by a few mm, then the white will not peek out on one side. Generally you want to design your artwork assuming that the white and color layers may be off by a few mm. This may mean adjusting how thick borders are and other considerations.
Whats with the alignment?
1st thing - Awesome username 2nd - to print CMYK and WHITE designs you have to run the transfer through the printer twice. First time with CMYK toners in and then the second time with the white toner inserted. when you do this it won't always line up, so you need to compensate for this.

i would print the white background first and then print the artwork over it.
You can print the white toner first (underprint) or last (overprint) depending on what you are trying to achieve. For printing on T-shirts with Forever Laser Dark 2-step transfer paper, you will typically want to print the white background last (overprint) so that the white layer ends up on the bottom, closest to the T-shirt.

Hello, I have a problem when Peeling the sheet FOREVER LASER LIGHT, the design remains on the sheet and does not transfer on the tshirt, the tshirt remains white

for info, I use an HP LASERJETPRO 200 printer, which works with a white cartridge
Are you sure you are printing on the correct sheet? The toner prints onto the A sheet, then the adhesive from the B sheet is added to the A sheet in a heat press (hot peel) and finally the A sheet is transferred to the T-shirt (cold peel).
I can only buy forever laser dark no cut here in germany... can I use this with this method but only buy the a foil without the b foil?
The method shown here requires both A and B foils to be used, since the B foil is what adds the adhesive needed to get the design to stick to the garment. There are certain one step papers that can be used, however your end result might not have the same feel or wash durability. It depends on what your requirements are.

Yes, you can print on white fabrics, but it seems that would defeat the need for the Ghost white underlay.

Can you print real world photos
You can print photos to the same extent that any laser toner printer can. If printing on garments, you will likely want to further "rasterize" the photo so that the small spaces between the dots allow the garment to feel softer.
Can I use this printer with the Magic Touch paper.. i.e. WOW 7.8 Weedless Dark and T.One Weedless Light
We have not tested that particular brand of paper so you would have to experiment on your own to decide.

Where are you seeing it say OKI only? You might be looking at an older document. There should be nothing preventing you from using Forever Laser Light with Ghost White toner.

Can this toner be used like regular laser toner on non-transfer paper for non-transfer purposes? For example, I’d like to print white text on kraft brown colored paper.
Yes! Wedding invitations, restaurant menus etc. can be printed with white toner directly onto dark kraft paper. Just swap out the black toner cartridge and replace it with a Ghost white toner cartridge. The printer thinks it is printing black, but the cartridge is providing white instead.

I don’t really use the color cartridges, so I’d rather swap it with cyan (or whichever color) and then setup my “white” print jobs with pure cyan text, so it would print white. Then I could keep them both loaded all the time.
@@kimnegaard4714 Interesting idea, however the printer reads a chip on each cartridge to make sure the user has not put the wrong color in the wrong slot. Ghost white toner cartridges have a chip that identifies them as black to the printer.

Hello i have a question they make a new version of this printer(m254dw) will the ink cartridge still work for the new version of the printer
These are laser printers that use toner and not ink. All M254 printers use the same type of HP 202A cartridge. If you are asking if these cartridges will work for the next model the 255, they will not because it uses a different type of cartridge.

Can these white toners print onto Tyvek without melting it. I'm wondering is this is a cold fusion or cooler fusion laser process. We currently screen print onto bag tags that are colours, I need to put white writing down onto that.
That would depend on the melting temperature of the Tyvek. We have had no problems printing on bags of various types. In this video the HP printer is using standard HP CMY (Cyan/Magenta/Yellow) toners that came with the printer. Only the black (K) cartridge is being swapped out with the Ghost white toner to give you CMYW.

I was watching thinking I've got to get one of these - then around 6:20 I was like WTF I've got to open the printer and change out the ink cartridge on EVERY print? I don't think so!
I'd much rather do that then spend 3K+ on an OKI printer.
Depending on your artwork you can print in both white and color in a single pass. If you have rasterized your image in Ps or Ai, then second pass with white under base is recommended

I would suggest also taking look at the following vid from David Lewis( th-cam.com/video/SBB1ncj5E4w/w-d-xo.html) he does detailed demos of using the Transfer Rip software offered by Forever as well as UniNet Transfer Rip (company that offers white toner transfer paper and printers similar to Forever). I also watch demos from Conde Sublimation, here's link to Pt. 1 of 2 that I use as reference th-cam.com/video/xyP_38KFF94/w-d-xo.html.
I watch these demos to use as reference points of how the process in those TransferRIPs will help me achieve best results in Ps. I've been quite successful with raster results, but still working out how to "choke" the 2nd image needed for white toner print. I've had no problems being able to print color with white toner in single pass.

I havev a problem. Back in October when I was using my white toner cartridge it was working fine. I may have used it about 5 times.. but here it is January everytime I try to use the white toner..I keep getting a memory supply error code. HP told me to contact you guys because they don't support it.

@@uscuttervideos I keep all toner cartridges in the printer at all times. I only swap out the black for white when I have need for it. I contacted USCutter yesterday the tech had me use a q_tip to swab the cricket plate. No joy on that. Have to call back today to see if they will make a exception to give me another cartridge.

Yes, but there is currently no 3rd party chip manufacturer for these printers so there is no white toner for the M454 at the time of me typing this.
Does white toner have a recharge?
The only way to "recharge" the white toner cartridge would be to purchase a replacement cartridge. This is the same procedure you would use for any laser toner printer, just that the toner in this case is white. www.uscutter.com/Ghost-Toner-Cartridges
Can you use Silhouette Studio software with this?
We have not tried this ourselves, but you should be able to print with Silhouette Studio just like to any other printer. You would have to know enough about Silhouette Studio to create and print a separate white underlay layer which you would resend through the printer after printing your full color layer. Not an ideal solution, but it should in theory be possible.
Is there a particular Photoshop ur using ....i need to get software
You can use most any version of Photoshop or any other program that allows you to invert a black and white image so that the ares you want to print in white are sent to the printer as black. Since you have swapped out the black toner cartridge in the printer with the ghost white cartridge, the printer thinks it is printing black, but the swapped ghost cartridge outputs white.

In this video only the black toner is being replaced with Ghost white toner. The other three toner cartridges (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow) are the HP toners that shipped with the printer.

It comes down to how often you are likely to need white toner. Ghost is a much cheaper solution however it requires more effort on the part of the user. A high volume production house might be willing to pay the higher entry price of an OKI or a UniNet iColor, whereas a smaller operation might want to save the upfront cost and go with the Ghost system.

So you printed this in RGB ? Not CMYK ( you did not set the white area to 100% 0% 0% 0% and it still printed white. Can you go in depth more, thank you. As I do know you can not change to B/W in CMYK mode ;) I am using all the Forever papers laser Dark and Flex soft.
Photoshop RGB File Print Settings for Ghost White Toner - Laser Color Jet Pro MFP M477fnw
After trial and error a couple of times, this is what worked for me.
In Photoshop print setting > Color Management > Color Handling drop down> Change to "Photoshop Manages Color" > Printer Profile drop down > Change to "Black and White" > Under that change next drop down to "Hard Proofing"> Proof Setup drop down > Working CMYK
In Print Setting > Printing Shortcuts select "Transparencies" > Select "Print in Grayscale" > Tray 1 > Color Laser Transparency *** Now to the left under "Print shortcuts" selection > Save As "Ghost White - Forever Dark Transparency (Now you have your print setting ready for next time within your printer options.)
In Color Settings > Change "Automatic" to "Manual" > Print in Grayscale "On" > Select the "Settings" > Change "Text', "Graphics", and "Photographs" to Black Only > Select "Ok"
Now Print!
Hi Nicole, thanks for those tips. During your trial and error, were you attempting to print "b&w" only or full color w/wht... format, png, psd, pdf, or jpeg?
Hey Tina Taylor, I printed full color. The format was my original design as a PSD that I saved as a PNG to print.
here are questions
1)when we take out the toners repeatedly won't they just dry off specially in hot and dry conditions of about 100'f
2)if we pre print the A sheets in some no. say about 100 then we change the toner and apply it to the prints will they still be usable or they dry off and the same question with sheet B
3)is the process applicable with A3 printer of the same specifications
4)do we need white toner for single coloured metallic sheets from Forever

Thank you so much for the video! I have a question: What if I just want to print basic white logos on dark garments? My white graphics never have color in them and I'm looking for the best solution to print these onto black garments without using HTV, Plastisol transfers, etc...

P.S. For printing black graphics onto white garments, I was looking into using inkjet transfer. Then I won't have to cut out the designs because the white will just show up as transparent, right?
If you only want to print one color (white) onto black garments, then Ghost White toner + Forever Laser Dark paper is a great solution for you. Just design your artwork in black and print the Forever Paper on any HP printer where you have swapped out the black toner cartridge with a Ghost White cartridge. The printer thinks it is printing black, but the results come out as white - it is that simple.
You could acquire a separate inkjet printer for black on white, but why not just use the same HP laser printer without swapping out the white cartridge?

This a great video on how to say money but if you running a business and customers coming in the store this wouldn’t be good to do. It requires to much work for one print. I rather get a oki 8432wt with forever rip software just print and press. Cost about $7500. But will make that back in no time
Many smaller customers simply purchase a second HP laser printer so that one printer has white toner (CMYW) and the other has black toner (CMYK). Then for situations where they need a white background they pass the paper first through one HP printer and then the second. This makes the workflow much faster and still provides a much cheaper solution.

If you look on the web for HP452nw printer (which can use the same Ghost white cartridge as HP452dw), you can find them for around $250 each which is 5 times less than your calculation above for two printers. The cost equation with Ghost white toner is indeed BY FAR the cheapest in the market hands down.

Are this prints permanent, do they wash away?
The prints are NOT permanent. Imagine that they get printed on the top side of the garment, just like a highly adhesive sticker would. They usually last up to 40 to 50 washes, depending on the materials you print them on (such as cotton, polyester, or poly-cotton), then they start cracking and peeling off.
Another downside, the prints look a bit cheap in comparison with other printing methods, so expect to have customers complaining. I personally keep my prices low to compensate the quality aspect.
However, IF you can't afford a proper DTG printer yet, the ghost white toner might be the way to go!

Ghost may make it for your machine and offer it on their website. But HP printers are the most commonly sold printers throughout the world, so they are the main focus.
