Every Country's Version of Captain America (and More!)

  • I can’t properly put into words how much I truly love Captain America as a character. He is everything good that America can take pride in - the ability to stand up for what’s right, the determination to look at those who are doing wrong and not back down, when he gets knocked down, he gets back up and says, “I can do this all day.”
He’s not a champion for unbridled jingoism. Far from it. Even when the real-world America isn’t showing itself in the best light, Captain America has always been there in the comics to hold a mirror to say, “This is not who we are.” He’s the embodiment of the American Dream - not just for Americans, but for everyone. And as an American myself, I love that we have such a symbol in not just comic books, but for pop culture as a whole.
Which got me thinking. Who do other countries have for their version of Captain America? Well. This question is a bit more complicated to answer than I originally thought because it all really comes down to where do you draw the line on who would be a country’s, Captain America? Let's get into Marvel's World of Heroes.

      Good call!
I did almost put in Silk but thought against it just to keep Taegukgi's Triumph Division together on the same card. But now I'm thinking about it, yeah. Probably should have put her in to showcase more titles.
Spider-Man 2099, though. Thank you! He slipped my mind!

Great video! Besides being a fan of alot of the characters you mention (specially the X-men), I actually went a step futher and, as someone who likes to develop pitches and ideas, create my own non-american OC (original character) heroes:
I called this character The Spectruman. He's a average brazillian student who one day he's teleport to a spaceship of Percyon, a dying alien warrior who chooses the boy to become his sucessor, given him the Zeoh Power (a cosmic force that gives it's user light powers, including flight, , energy projection and move in the speed of light) so he can cotinue the legacy of his fallen group, the Order of the Spectrum Knights. He's basically a Brazillian Green Lantern (Kyle Rayner) or Nova (Richard Rider), resembling more the latter with when comes to his powers and some of his personality (both are teenagers dealing with people's expectations and have a inferiority complex). The two big differences would be:
    1) Their journey - While Richard Rider grew from a humorous and cocky hero to become a more traumatized and reserve after Annihilation while Spectruman is the opposite, he already starts as reserve, headstrong, responsible but with self doubts and difficult to show vulnerability, not wanting to let people down or look like dependent on them (which often leads to arguments between him and his family and friends) , but slowly he gain more confidence in himself and his abilites while, at same time, empathy and understanding of the people in his life. His growth is about him finding a balance between being independent to do things on his own and also dependent so he doesn't isolate himself from developing bonds with others.
    2) The story's tone - While characters like Nova and Green Lantern are more space heroes, with most their stories taking place outside of Earth and having them exploring other worlds and dealing with alien and cosmic threats, Spectruman would have more variety. Despite the whole cosmic background to his powers, his stories more sci-fy/fantasy drama (kind like Superman or Ben 10), with him having many types of adventures: Some stories would take place on Earth with him dealing with super villains and corrupt CEOs, others would have him dealing with aliens in space and others could have him dealing with mystical creatures.
During his adventures, Spectruman would meet another OC hero, Sir Midnight. he comes from british rich family responsible for carrying the mantle of the Sir Midnight that belonged to arthurian knight that was given by Merlin, the duty to protect the world from supernatural threats. Unlike Spectruman, Sir Midnight doesn't have special powers, but is well trained in hand-to-hand combat, is expert in wearing any kind of weapon (from the past and present) and has access to many mystical artifacts and cadgets, with his main one being the Spiritual Blade, a magic sword that can absorb energy (including ghosts and spirits) and open portals to other dimensions. He's basically a Batman that deals with mystical problems rather than street level ones.
He and Spectruman would have a dynamic very similar to Superman & Batman/ Spider Man and Daredevil. While Spectruman is cautious, has self-doubts but friendly and optimistic, Sir Midnight is stoic and professional, representing what Spectruman could become if wasn't for his friends and loved ones in his life. By getting to know each other, Midnight introduce to the mystic side of his world and inspire to use more his head than his power, meanwhile Spectruman teaches Midnight the same lesson he learned from his family, to not isolated himself from others and focus more on protecting the innocents than just defeating the monsters. Despite their difference they are both young men trying to live up to expectations and in the end inspire each other to reinvent the legacies they are part of.

Wave's definitely one of the best cards in Marvel Snap and nobody seems to be talking about it lol.
I thought you were going to mention Ari Agbayani too for the Philippines, esp since she's a literal Captain America clone, but I guess she doesn't really count since she's 0.1% actually Filipino, and 100% Nobody-Took-A-Minute-To-Google-Anything clickbait hot garbage lmao.

    What about Antarctica?

Antarctica probably wouldn't get much, unless you consider The Savage Lands it's own country. Then their national hero would be Ka-Zar and I guess main villain would be Stegron. lol

Idk man, I fell like your list is heavily American-centric. Like you use Kamala Khan as a representitive of Pakistan despite her being born and raised in New Jersey. Its like saying Steve Rogers is actually "Captain Ireland" because canonicaly his parents were Irish migrants - being part of diaspora doesn’t mean character is suited to be called as national personification of the country of origin

Kind of sad that Ukraine is represented with a girl that appeared for two pages and was never seen again and recolor of russian superhero. Because besides offensive stuff like chornobylylite mutants that say that they are russian for some reason we don't have any good ukrainian superheroes at all.
Great video anyways! Keep it up!

Amazon DOES appear again after that one Sentry issue. It was when she failed to protect the ambassador of Atlantis from the Green Goblin, I can't remember the exact issue off the top of my head but it was during Civil War.
But yeah. I agree. They needed to be used more. The Super Heroes of Europe team has plenty of interesting things going on and it helps fill out the world because it's not just American heroes out there.
Thank you very much. I sincerely appreciate your support!
