When I was a kid diesel trucks were a great value; good power, most were reliable, diesel fuel was really cheap, and the trucks lasted forever. A lot of those factors have changed now, so I'm kind of surprised by this trend. It's getting pretty expensive to buy/maintain a diesel truck.
Yea I agree but still a great value if you get a base model diesel from any brand, they go for a decent price but no bells and whistles. The 6.7 PS, 6.7 Cummins and the 6.6 Durmax have been good and last a while. There also more comfortable and can pull a hell ton more.
I'm not surprised one bit. It's called fuel economy regulation. And don't think we're solving problems with these reuglations. In the real world, the bottom line isn't MPG, but to government regulators around the world, it is. With that, manufacturers must employ all different kinds of tricks to game regulators. The priority isn't always satisfying the market, they sometimes have do things just because government forces them to. Without government interference, the market would determine what engines we'd see under our hoods of our vehicles.
Nissan has a better deal, better price, better warranty but too many sheep will go with the others just because smh. And for all the haters who will comment negatively, it’s made in the USA and no truck is without issues. My 19 ram hasn’t stopped having issues since I bout it. And I’ve owned many Ford F-150 and gmcs and rams. But that’s just my opinion everyone has one.
The mpg is terrible on titan. A major benefit of buying the half ton is getting 30 mpg around town. If I wanted 15 mpg and a stiff ride with better numbers why not buy a heavy duty truck? Ofc that is where Nissan fills that niche. Best and worst of both worlds
I think it should be in the comparison! Along with tfls feal would fuel economy numbers then it's right there in black and white what are you getting and what you have to give up to get it!
It should, it has same type of axles, non-floating, has slightly more payload and towing capacity, but what sets the xd apart is how much better it handles the weight. Nissan really could have marketed this better because it's a great truck for those who tow heavier weight regularly and want better stability and handle the weight better like a 3/4 ton but dont want the harsh ride of a 3/4 ton. It's actually a great compromise. I own one and love it. I've towed with half tons and the xd, and there is a pretty significant difference in how it handles the weight vs a half ton. Feels alot more stable and isnt affected as much as a half ton is towing 8,000+ lbs, and that's what really sets it apart, and for the price it's great.
Southern Nevada offroading and back country word on the street thag the streets in Mexico are pretty bumpy and theres stories of of the emissions stuff falling off in mexico
Mine is stock but apparently deleting turns it into another animal. BUT, you run the risk of screwing with your warranty. If you live in a state like NY, class 2B trucks aren’t emissions tested. Maintenance is more than gas though you’re right. Every 10k miles I change the oil, filter, both diesel filters. Costs about $175 or so if done yourself. Easy to do. But if you don’t need the diesel grunt, the gasser is kickass as well.
Southern Nevada offroading and back country when you say emissions crap are you referring to DEF? I have 2 diesels both rams and I spend less than $20 a year per rig on DEF. Expensive-ass oil changes and fuel filter changes is what sucks.
I'm definitely looking forward to the Ike gauntlet shootout with these trucks. I love how you guys do the empirical breakdowns like this and follow it up with the road testing. Keep it up!
The Titan XD, especially the lower end trim models (S and SV) equipped with the Cummins are actually a great value. I think Nissan got screwed by Renault in reference to the Titan. The Titan was mis-marketed and under refined when it hit the market a few years ago.
Love my Titan XD. Towed 8,000+ lbs travel trailer this weekend with 30+ mph winds and I didn't get thrown around at all. Relaxing trip to the campground. I drove and love the Ram 1500 - it is a beautiful truck but for towing and the warranty (100,000 bumper to bumper!) I'm very happy with my Titan and Cummins engine. Also it's cool to talk to people who are surprised to see Cummins in Nissan.
Just a year ago, everyone was still laughing at the Nissan XD. Now it seems like it just might be the best truck out of the bunch. Not just for value, but for overall towing confidence when you have that heavier trailer on there.
I'm still laughing at it. It'll never pull what my F-550 or Ram 5500 will. Until Nissan does a bigger better truck they can stick every truck they make right back up their slant eyed asses
They seem to be good trucks, however they wont ever get the mileage of a 1500 and that's why ram passed on the 5.0 Cummins. Great engine I'm sure, just can't get the mileage they want or need to stay competitive
@@hemiaddiction yeah, that was the only reason that I didnt buy one a few years ago when they first came out. I wonder next year when the updated version comes out if they will tune it a bit better to get that mileage up. It is actually a perfect truck for me. I need somewhat of a daily driver, and the only thing I tow any more is a larger travel trailer that is pushing the limit (tail waging the dog) of a half ton truck.
Robert Richardson obviously you aren’t the intended audience for the Titan XD. The point was to bridge the gap between a ~450 lb ft gas 1/2 ton and a relatively humongous 3/4 ton. Even today it’s the best option torque wise in the 1/2 ton market since it seems the big 3 are going to limit the output on their diesel 1/2 tons.
My money would be in Nissan or GM if I had to go small diesel, I'd still go Toyota for gas. Ford sharing that motor with land rover questions reliability. Same with ram being it's an Italian diesel. Nissan at least has Cummins name behind it
I had a 2014 Tundra TRD Off-road. It stranded me 4 times and I had 2 transmissions fail. It only had about 51,000 miles when I dumped it for a GMC Canyon Denali Duramax. I loved it but gave it to a family member that needed it more. He just got a job where he has to commute and still needs a truck. I now have an F150 XLT 5.0 FX4 SuperCrew again! My last 2011 F150 was perfect for about 70,000 miles. Yayyyy
I worked in the Cummins plant getting it ready to gear up to build the 5.0 engine. It sat nearly empty for years because Dodge wouldn't commit and they only put it in generators and a few delivery trucks.
I've been thinking about the Titan XD Cummins for a long time. There is a local dealer here in San Antonio that offers lifetime powertrain warranties on all their new cars and trucks. The idea of a cummins/aisin truck that fits the whole family and has a lifetime powertrain warranty is extremely attractive. Is there any way that you guys could explore the idea of companies out there that do tuning for them that doesn't void warranty, and maybe also just for the entertainment value maybe those that go all out on tuning the Titan XD?
GM should've put the 3.0L in the 1500 and the Colorado/ Canyon. Put different tunes on them. But seems like a lot of money to develop two engines that are only 0.2L different in displacement.
@@anthonywebber2211 they are still spending the money to purchase the engine. Just stuffing it in wouldn't have been thought on it. It would have been thought of in the design process.

At Anthony Weber. I checked out Wikipedia it does say 2.8 L diesel is a VM Motori Engine. Then I checked out GM engines on Wikipedia. 2.8 L four-cylinder diesel 2012 to present. After that I checked GM powertrain. Click Products. And then click 2.8 L LWN shows that it is built in Thailand. GM used to own 25% of VM Motori. Maybe they both have the right to build this engine.
If I was buying the diesel for towing, then this is an easy choice; the Titan XD. Then throw in the price and warranty and it’s an even easier choice. It just needs a little better MPG though.
Titan xd's they are pretty sweet. But higher up the trim and cab size that payload number is laughable. 1570 ish, for a platinum reserve xd?!! I almost bought one until i was told through rv dealers id have to sign a waver knowing im illegal. They look great and if they'd ever bump up the axle weight, i bet they'd be a big player in the hd wars!! But as far as 1/2 ton size i think they are far best seats and comfort!!
A friend of mine bought a dave smith Nissan xd, s model, crew cab 4x4 last fall for $34k out the door price. It's a beast too! Ok, their is no soft touch materials, but who gives a rip!
I own a 2016 Nissan Titan XD crew cab 4X4 Platinum Reserve with the Cummins 5.0 Diesel and I am completely satisfied and constantly impressed and surprised by this truck. It has been a wonderful truck and very reliable bar a few problems up front ie. transmission reprogramming (which just made it shift better) and a small air leak in one of the door seals which all was taken care of by my dealer and no problems since. I have towed a 27 foot Jayco camper fully loaded with four people in the truck and it was like there was no trailer behind me. I have even pulled the camper during one of our Texas heavy rain and wind storms which never phased it, The truck just effortlessly pulls and tracks confidently for a half ton or heavy half ton whatever you want to call it; I am impressed with it. I also believe that the XD's combination of the Cummins 5.0 V8, Aisin 6 speed transmission and Nissan heavy duty frame from their NV 3500 in the Titan XD is completely under rated and under tuned from Nissan. It just seems like it moves and pulls effortlessly with no drama or white knuckle experiences. If you test drive a Titan XD you will see what I mean it does not drive like a half ton pickup it drives more like a 3/4 ton pickup truck. In the end, people can laugh all they want at this truck but even after being out two years sooner than any of these other new half ton trucks coming out; the Titan XD is more powerful and more capable with no white knuckle experiences trying to achieve its spec'd limits. That's my experience anyways and I get the last laugh since I spent a lot less money on my Titan XD diesel and got it two years sooner with a much better warranty and powertrain to boot then any of these new diesel half ton trucks coming out.
Exactly!! I love my 16 xd platinum reserve. Towed our food trailer with a half ton and with the xd and there is no comparison when it comes to stability!
You know it. Too bad other people dont gove the XD a chance they might be pleasantly surprised and save quite a bit of money compared to the big three.
Anyone towing 9000 lbs and up shouldn’t be doing it with a 1/2 ton, regardless of what they claim. I went with the Titan XD. Best choice if you don’t want a full 3/4 ton truck.
If i didn't allready have a 2016 ram cummins i would definitely would buy the nissan titan. A Cummins with a Toyota made transmission with that low of a price is pretty legit.
Ray Richmond If you haven’t driven the titan diesel I recommend trying it because you might be disappointed in its performance. I really wanted to like it, but it just feels kinda like a turd unless you tramp it lol
I have heard the same about the Nissan. I wish they would have put a smaller I6 instead of the V8. I also hear that the nissan likes to break a lot. Dont know how true that is.
I'd like to see a real world comparison on how these trucks do everyday . Towing, hauling, acceleration and fuel mileage. Also wondering how long they will hold up.
Maybe you ought to look at the reliability of the Fords before making such bold statements They have been out for a while now while the others are not yet so hold your blanket verdict. In like for like 2018 spec the Ford betters the GM on towing and fuel efficiency. GM has been outsold by Ford in this segment and has more reliability issues so your theory is blown out of the water. Cummins is good but not modern technology they are more suited in Fire engines.. Lol.
I have been waiting for this comparison for the longest time. I want to see two different towing comparison. One with a trailer with all cameras available to that truck. The second is towing up a hill. I’m in the market for a new truck this fall and want to see compatriots.
GM: Probably will fall apart after a few years Ford: Engine will probably blow up since it's a Range Rover product and MPG will probably tank will towing or hauling Ram: You'll probably need a new transmission at 30K...like any Fiat/Chrysler cars Nissan: Probably you're best bet since it has a heavier frame, Cummins engine and AISIN transmission. But being a Nissan it'll probably have electrical issues
I'm a bit concerned with the Dmax having its timing chains, etc on the back of the engine...looks like it will require pulling the motor out to replace them. Also, I trust Ram fixed the slipping timing gear issue(?).
I'm seriously considering the Ram Rebel, however the Eco diesel in the past was NOT one of their best moments to be polite!! This also comes from a friend that is a SERVICE MANAGER for a RAM dealership. So that being said, I really hope this NEW ECO DIESEL PERFORMS OUTSTANDING!!! I JUST MIGHT trade in my beloved JKU RUBICON! The Chevy would probably be a runner up!! Loved your comparison between the half ton gas powered trucks, that dag gone GMC Sierra really caught my eye, and I'm a RAM TRUCK fan!!!! Thank you for your time and dedication to informing us!!! Outstanding Job!
If you do excessive milage the half ton diesel is worth it. If your a low mileage driver it will be hard to offset the cost of maintenance. I just got rid of my ecodiesl and went back to gas due to the cost of oil and fuel filter changes, cost of diesel and def.
Smart not trying to make Fiat angry with you over explaining the Cummins engine debacle. I think the Nissan never got its day because it is Nissan. They are plagued with that cvt problem, but they has a much better transmission in the truck that is not made by their cvt provider. Would like to see you guy but all four of those trucks to a test and see which is best.
Ross Bowman they had a titan long term tester and roman hated it. Gave it a very poor review so its not likely nissan will be back to these guys any time soon.
Nissan is a 2500 with light axles. You should compare gvwr. Like my 16 ram by the vin # says it can tow 10,200 but gvwr is like 14,300. The truck weighs more than 3,900 lbs so it can't really tow 10,200. It's really closer to 9,400 lbs. When you subtract the weight of the truck from actual gvwr. All trucks are like this. I'm just curious. Mine feels great at 14k gross so I'm sure the numbers are on the safe side. 8speed, 3.92 rear, etc. In sure the 1k difference in weight rating on the Ford and dodge aren't noticeable, the gm probably is if your load isn't quite distributed right. One thing you didn't mention, ram will put that motor in any trim level from base tradesman up like the Nissan, but for some reason Ford and gm won't. I think that's nuts but whatever.
Rides a heck of alot better than an f250. Sure it doesnt have as much power but it has enough for what its rated to do, and an ecu tune can easily fix that.
It’s too big because the PW winch doesn’t leave room for the inter cooler. Btw, Pro4X Cummins out tows and out hauls a PW with similar off-road features
Have you driven the titan XD? Do you own the titan XD? I have a fleet of trucks, one XD in the fleet. Nissan makes a great truck. Running empty on the highway, 25 mpg all day long. Towing max capacity basically 12 mpg. My duramax's lb7 and lml don't run any cheaper.
@@jonathantucker6273 I've seen many many many reviews of them. All say the same thing, horrible fuel economy and lousy towing capability. It's not the first time Nissan has failed at making a vehicle and im sure it won't be the last. I'll just stick to my Toyotas, atleast they'll last past 200k miles
@@rockn711 to each his own. Means nothing to me if no one drives them. Just commenting based on experience. I would say the reviews saying lousy fuel economy, comparing them to a half ton... And it ain't that bad compared, but again, I don't care. Poor towing capabilities, yeah, compared to a 2500, it is piss poor. But the truck you get for the money spent. It is worth consideration if it will do the job you need it to. Buy whatever truck you would like. I am only providing the feedback because there are so few Nissan owners that it is tough to find an honest review.
With MPG being such a large buying factor, when you get the trucks, can you tabulate your real-world unloaded MPG with them? Ford is still investigating their MPG rating method, so a real-world example would definitely be good
I have always had a Ford so I’m partial ... but would love to see a rugged comparison. My criteria will durability, driver seat comfort (I drive a ton of miles), payload and last would be trailer hauling. I’m in the market for a new truck this fall!!!!
Sorry but I would get a titan xd over the other 3 brethrens. Much more heavier truck and you feel the stability towing because of it. Isnt that why we all buy 2500 and 3500 trucks?
@@tommytsunami5147 I agree it's like you get a heavy duty half ton for less money. Sure it's probably not as luxurious as the other brands but I'm one of the those guys that actually uses my truck for work and of course I want a comfortable experience but luxury finishes and giant infotainment screens I could care less about. Give me the basic cockpit comforts and good functionality and leave the rest out and save me some money! I really think your point about the Cummins being detuned for reliability is also a good point if it's true, which it seems a reasonable speculation to me . I do wonder how good its mpgs will be with just a six speed trans and it being a V8 diesel.
Rob m I agree, I think Gm always underrates there numbers for longevity! I’m sure it can tow as much as ram and ford but not straining that little engine with all that weight will make it more reliable.
When I was a kid, diesels were super reliable and the fuel was cheap. These days, they're not nearly as reliable due to all of the emissions stuff they stick on them and the price of fuel is higher than gas. 20 years ago, it would have been awesome to have a diesel 1/2 ton, but these days, I'm not so sure from a cost perspective.
Guys...f***ing love your channel and look forward to all upcoming reviews in this segment...exiting times indeed for the 1/2 ton American truck market. Yes, prices are crazy, maintenance cost through the roof, DPF/DEF/EGR/SCR systems suck (but I do like the environmental benefits:). Diesel fuel lacks lubricity, we're pouring all kinds of additives in our tanks, running Amsoil, adding filtration systems to get the soot down to 5 microns, options are Range Rover like (crazy right), but WE LOVE IT. I can't imagine getting into my new Superduty and starting it up with a key😁
GM is the one I wanna see, the other ones are out or in the ram is just an update. Also, I thought the 10 speed was the same in ford and GM, interesting to hear they are saying they are different. I hope you cover it when you test the new GM
How about a video regarding true total cost per mile including scheduled maintenance, diesel fuel costs, etc. compared to gas versions. For example, I noticed at my Ford dealer, the posted price for a diesel F150 oil change was $80 more than a synthetic oil change for a gas engine.
If Nissan/Cummins could just tweak the XD to get ~ 22-23 MPG on the HWY, that would be a slam-dunk! But all of the mftrs should make their ECMs with difft settings (Power, towing, economy, racing) instead of having to go buy aftermarket tuners, delete kits, etc.
The ram vs chevy is what im interested in. Think ram is going to take the cake foe best fuel economy and perfirmance. They have been out the longest and probably have learned a few things on the journey. Of corse thats just what i think, although an in line 6 should be able to hold its own.
You guys talk about how much weight the diesel can pour on the trucks, which one has the best brakes? All that weight that can be towed is great, but you need to be able to stop. I think stopping is sometimes more important, then how much weight you can tow. Please let me know which truck has the best stopping power. Thank you for all your videos.
I don’t know anything about the integrity of the Nissan chassis and suspension, but if I would be towing 10K or taking 7K across the country, I’m much more secure doing that with Cummins/Aisin than less proven names. AND my wife and I are thinking about doing a long-term RV so this makes me think about what I’d be more secure going out with pulling a 6K+ TT!!
Never owned a truck. But my dad and grandfather’s always had fords. Looking forward to the the RAM diesel just for the comfort and the air ride suspension won’t be towing all the time mainly looking for mpg. Hoping to test drive all three by early next year. Before making my decision.
@@maverick5785 Eventually the air ride system is going to start to break down and need replacement parts which is going to be costly. Imagine driving down the road and an air bag pops. You're going to need a tow. Make sure to drive both. If you aren't going to have the truck out of warranty then it's fine, but eventually the air ride is going to go out and cost $2k to fix. I think the diesel can be a really good option but all the emissions crap on them reduces engine life and reliability. The diesel is a lot of money upfront and there have been a lot of quality issues and reliability issues on this engine specifically. Just google the problems people have been having. Getting 30mpg is awesome but a v8 will get you 24 on the highway and be less expensive upfront and in the long run. Just stuff to think about. Get whatever makes you happy
Collin thank you I appreciate the info I will do my homework hopefully by January I will be test driving both of them and consider the costs of those two features. Thanks for taking the time.
@@maverick5785 I just bought a 2019 rebel so I was doing the same research as you. I really wanted the air ride and diesel...but the ride with the steel springs is awesome. The diesel will get much better gas mileage...but it wasn't available yet. I took a gamble on the etorque and I'm crossing my fingers it stays reliable. Good luck on your truck. The new Rams are awesome
Todd Ullmann I agree inline has always been the best diesel config, why do you think every semi in North America, built in the last 35 or so years, is an in-line 6
I thought that GM just recently put out a press release that stated the 3.0L diesel was being delayed until next year. That’s why they were giving everyone their money back who had gone ahead and placed an advanced order with the deposit. I thought it said the new on sale date was June 2020? Anyone else here anything on this?
Glad you produced this video. I’m in the market this fall or early winter (Christmas gift from my wife) for a new truck. Am looking forward to a real world comparison of mileage, pay load and trailer towing ability which must include all of the camera angles. Seat comfort is important due to how much driving I do but that is pretty subjective and hard to evaluate. Here in New Mexico we have some serious hills so I would like to see real world hill climbing and descending. Bring on the ROAD TESTS!!!
The $38k price for the Titan XD is skewed because it is for the 2-door base model, whereas the prices for the Ford F150 and the Chevy/GMC are for 4-door cabs in a higher trim level. I feel certain that the Titan XD's price will increase significantly if it was quoted on the same option/trim level as the others.
I know it's been a year now since this video so incase I'm browsing the used market or the 2021 model whats the one to get? My buddy has a hemi rebel dodge but I'd rather skip his 16 highway 8 when towing and go for the ecodiesel but I like the gmc lifted models as well. Have the family mini van but looking at flipping the Honda commuter for a camping trailer hauler instead.
With experience with the previous ecodiesel from the previous bodystyle the ecodiesel was easily able to exceed what is listed currently for ford, also I know someone that has the 3 litre powerstoke and it easily exceeds, as a 4wd, the 2wd fuel economy numbers. One thing folks have to realize the titan is what used to be classified as a heavy half. The ford, chev/gmc, and dodge are regular half-tons. The Cummins diesel is a working diesel, while the 3-litres would be classed as a heavy commuter (heavier than a Jetta or Land Rover diesel but lighter than a working diesel).
As someone with a 10’year old truck, and still waiting a year or two to buy, i think you can’t beat the Nissan. For me it’s gonna have more technology than I currently have so there will be nothing missing. If I had a 2-3 year old truck it wouldn’t be an option as the other 3 have way better features.
Stevonoles1 it’s most likely safe. Remember that 10 years ago 1/2 ton trucks had 17” wheels. Trucks now have 20-22” rims from the factory, which gives room for bigger brakes. Also if you’re towing that much weight you are probably running trailer brakes which typically do the vast majority of slowing your rig down.
@@jessaphillips2846 yeah but in heavy winds the titan will handle that weight way better than a half ton. Sure a half ton can handle it, but a titan xd will handle like a 3/4 ton minus the rough ride.
I’d like to see all of the MPG numbers compared when released and then have you apply the real world numbers (your testing numbers, mpg loop, mpg towing loop & Ike numbers ) next to them in the same format program.
If it were my money I'd buy one of the GM twins. That Cummins is a hell of an engine but the Titan XD doesn't perform as well as the numbers would lead you to believe.
Most of the trucks sold aren't towing max weight. The max towing numbers are impressive though. If you want to tow that kind of weight on a regular basis you're better off buying a heavy duty. although I think the Cummins the is a great engine in my opinion if you're looking at the Titan XD you'd be better off buying the gasoline engine.
Lots of information but you missed even more important details vehicle weight trim level for pricing and truck bed size. I am sure you thought about more details but left it out but that is why I watch your channel!
You could probably get it for less. I got one for 16k off of sticker when I bought one. It was a King cab Pro-4x model, so it was more money than a stripped down base model though.
Glad to see more manufactures finally doing what I said they should do with the eco diesels in half ton trucks for years. Long as we can keep the EPA from restricting diesels more and more. I always here people say diesels are not worth it cause they cost more to maintain. Yes and no. If a diesel is built right I have noticed the cost is about the same except the diesel will last longer then a gas engine (again if built right along with the transmission) Your biggest cost difference will be fuel. Note on the up keep. If you can do most the work your self and know how to shop around the cost will be pretty cheap as anything else.
Depends where you live as well. I'm in British Columbia Canada. And diesel is cheaper almost everywhere you go per liter. And with the better mileage it's an easy answer for me. But yes it has to be reliable. When diesels fail its pricey. But that's what warranty is for. And once warranty is done just tune and delete the truck and it will get even better mileage and power. And reliability

Emissions BS is keeping me from buying a diesel. And maintenance costs are way to high.
Southern Nevada offroading and back country word on the street thag the streets in Mexico are pretty bumpy and theres stories of of the emissions stuff falling off in mexico
Just delete everything
Yea once warranty is over delete it. And maintenance isnt that much more money
Keep it up!
You need to get your hands on a 28 foot travel trailer and take these trucks on a long haul to see how they really perform.
I’m so glad you added the Titan to this comparison. Excited to see the gauntlet comparison with all 4.
The Nissan should not have even been on the board, comparing 3.0 not 5.0 even if it is in a half ton truck.
They have this truck vs the 3/4 ton trucks, and have it vs 1/2 ton trucks. It’s a true in between truck. Its in its own category.
The Titan XD, especially the lower end trim models (S and SV) equipped with the Cummins are actually a great value. I think Nissan got screwed by Renault in reference to the Titan. The Titan was mis-marketed and under refined when it hit the market a few years ago.
billy mc the Cummins V8 is nowhere near as reliable as the Cummins I6
Love my Titan XD.
I bet the Nissan will handle the heavier loads better than the others. The xd is heavier.
WHATS UP WITH THE AXEL ON THE NISSAN.....HOW IS IT DIFFERENT THAN FORD/GMC ???
@@hemiaddiction I get 17 mpg combined and 23 mpg hwy with my Nissan Titan XD. The hwy number is driving at 65 mph. What's bad about that?
My money would be in Nissan or GM if I had to go small diesel, I'd still go Toyota for gas. Ford sharing that motor with land rover questions reliability. Same with ram being it's an Italian diesel. Nissan at least has Cummins name behind it
I have a 19 Tundra and the fuel mpg is so bad that I don't drive it. Also don't like the frame. The rear of the truck wiggles on rough roads.
@@wesleymarkham3343
Someone told me that was fixed, I guess not lol
Ford built it for Land Rover, and made changes for the F150
I had a 2014 Tundra TRD Off-road. It stranded me 4 times and I had 2 transmissions fail. It only had about 51,000 miles when I dumped it for a GMC Canyon Denali Duramax. I loved it but gave it to a family member that needed it more. He just got a job where he has to commute and still needs a truck. I now have an F150 XLT 5.0 FX4 SuperCrew again! My last 2011 F150 was perfect for about 70,000 miles. Yayyyy
Land rover was apart of Ford
i own the nissan xd,cummins. weight of the towing vehicle makes all the difference. cant go wrong with this truck, very stable to tow with. XD rocks
Yeah but its intended for fan boys only
I worked in the Cummins plant getting it ready to gear up to build the 5.0 engine.
GM dosen't make the Colorado/Canyon 2.8 diesel, VM Motori in Italy does
And a 3.0 Inline 6 is probably too long to fit into the Colorado/Canyon
@@anthonywebber2211 they are still spending the money to purchase the engine. Just stuffing it in wouldn't have been thought on it. It would have been thought of in the design process.
@ Anthony Webber. 2.8 L Duramax in the Colorado/canyon is build by GM in Rayong Thailand.

Italian manufacturer VM Motori S.p.A. has designed and built several different diesel engines for many third-party applications. Fiat is the actual owner, and sells projects to automotive manufacturers like GM, Jeep, and other companies. VM Motori offers different range of engines depending on the applications: automotive, industrial, marine, and power generation.
Applications:
2010-2012 Jeep Cherokee power: 200 PS (147 kW; 197 hp); torque: Manual transmission: 410 N⋅m (302 lb⋅ft) automatic transmission: 460 N⋅m (339 lb⋅ft)

2013-present Chrysler Grand Voyager/Lancia Voyager power: 178 PS (131 kW; 176 hp); torque: 360 N⋅m (266 lb⋅ft)
2013 Isuzu, Isuzu DMax, Holden Colorado, Holden Colorado 7 power 180 PS (132 kW; 178 hp); 470 N⋅m (347 lb⋅ft) (Updated November 2013)
2014-present Isuzu, Isuzu DMax, General Motors, Holden Colorado, Colorado & Holden Colorado & Nova S10(Brazil) power: 200 PS (147 kW; 197 hp) Torque: 500 N⋅m (369 lb⋅ft)
Really important to mention the RPM at which these engines reach their full torque/HP potential.
Really looking forward to real-world MPG, 0-60, and Ike Towing numbers of the GM diesel. I think this has the potential to be the best of the bunch.
The reason I bought my titan xd is that you can have the payload and the towing on the same truck. With the others, you get either/or.
so your the guy that bought one...makes it easy to find in parking lots, being the only one
@@philtripe *you're*
@@philtripe they're actually pretty common around here (central tx).
Excellent review! You guys work hard to get great comparisons and information out to us regularly
GM product peaks my interest! (I currently have a Ram 3500 CC Dually 4x4 6.7 Cummins) Nissan pricing though makes that package very interesting oo...
Keep that Cummins till the new ones are a little older.
The interior it's a joke in the Nissan though
Once or twice should be ok, I'd say anymore then that 3/4 ton should be used
Anthony Webber Agreed
If i didn't allready have a 2016 ram cummins i would definitely would buy the nissan titan. A Cummins with a Toyota made transmission with that low of a price is pretty legit.
Aisin is it own company, Toyota just owns a share
Ray Richmond If you haven’t driven the titan diesel I recommend trying it because you might be disappointed in its performance. I really wanted to like it, but it just feels kinda like a turd unless you tramp it lol
I have heard the same about the Nissan. I wish they would have put a smaller I6 instead of the V8. I also hear that the nissan likes to break a lot. Dont know how true that is.
@@LucasLeCompteMusic not true in my experience. But I am only one man.
Nissan sure make great trucks at very reasonable pricing. Would look more into those if I am to buy a new truck for sure.
John Grytbakk 45k miles on my Titan XD. You certainly will not be disappointed.
I'd like to see a real world comparison on how these trucks do everyday . Towing, hauling, acceleration and fuel mileage. Also wondering how long they will hold up.
100% agree, the diesel discussion must include longevity, otherwise there is no point. Diesel guys need these engines to last at least 400k km.
Lol.
@@saddist1Gtown what blanket verdict and theory are you talking about?
I have been waiting for this comparison for the longest time. I want to see two different towing comparison. One with a trailer with all cameras available to that truck. The second is towing up a hill. I’m in the market for a new truck this fall and want to see compatriots.
juki1x more like 400k miles, minimum.
GM: Probably will fall apart after a few years
Ford: Engine will probably blow up since it's a Range Rover product and MPG will probably tank will towing or hauling
Ram: You'll probably need a new transmission at 30K...like any Fiat/Chrysler cars
Nissan: Probably you're best bet since it has a heavier frame, Cummins engine and AISIN transmission. But being a Nissan it'll probably have electrical issues
You have the Rover / Ford relationship backward. The Rover diesel is a Ford product.
Doesnt RAM use an AISIN transmission...which is Toyota
@@mikefoehr235 only with cummins high output do they use aisin.
nissan 5 years warranty will cover any warranty issues
How come y'all dont compare warranties? Or are they all the same? Is nobody concerned about the Italian diesel in the Ram?
I'm a bit concerned with the Dmax having its timing chains, etc on the back of the engine...looks like it will require pulling the motor out to replace them. Also, I trust Ram fixed the slipping timing gear issue(?).
GM new I6 diesel perks my interest.
Mine too!
I just switched from a 3.0 liter Ram Eco Diesel. I loved it but Nissan's 5.0 liter is GREAT! Cummins and the trans is terrific.
Can't wait to see the Ram Rebel diesel real world specs!
Have to say I'm really leaning towards the Titan xd pro-4x diesel really like and the price vs the F250 diesel
Rides a heck of alot better than an f250. Sure it doesnt have as much power but it has enough for what its rated to do, and an ecu tune can easily fix that.
Do you think the power wagon will ever see a diesel? 6.7 too big to fit, but that 5.0 Cummins Nissan uses looks interesting.
6.7 shouldn't be too big to fit, it fits in the standard 2500.
It’s too big because the PW winch doesn’t leave room for the inter cooler. Btw, Pro4X Cummins out tows and out hauls a PW with similar off-road features
Benoit Serrurier the powerwagon isn’t made for towing or hauling. I with people would get that though their heads.
Yes they already announced this on a different show. Power wagon diesel coming soon
Dirtymax forever!
the Nissan Titan Diesel where you have the fuel economy of a 1 ton and the towing capacity of a half-ton.. what an awesome job by Nissan
At $.50 to $1.00 more a gallon where I live.
Ford is still investigating their MPG rating method, so a real-world example would definitely be good
BenLeBlanc1 but diesel fuel costs 30-50% more than regular fuel. These trucks arnt getting 30-50% better mpg than the v8s
Isn't Nisan canceling the diesel pickup?
Test the GMC. I will be buying a new truck next year and have no brand loyalty. Price, mpg, performance.
GMC is the same as Chevy so its gonna be the same specs
Andy's Shop agreed. Chebby is just another Generic Motor Crap product
Honestly out of the GMC and Chevy, the GMC looks a LOT better.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how the new Silverado 3.0 diesel performs in all the real world testing you guys put the trucks through.
Same. I don't care about towing over 11 and 12 thousand pounds. For me it's more about comfort and reliability.
Sorry but I would get a titan xd over the other 3 brethrens. Much more heavier truck and you feel the stability towing because of it. Isnt that why we all buy 2500 and 3500 trucks?
and its a 5/8 that's cheaper than 1/2
More heavier?
What a lot of people are forgetting is that the ram eco diesel was getting 30 mpg or better since its been out.
And it was cheating emissions while getting 30 mpg.
emdec55 and? Still got it
Hal 1000 And they paid an $800M fine and a no sale for 2 model years for it.
Just from price alone, the Nissan is the winner on paper. Easily. On a side note, I wish these videos had more ads. Almost becoming unwatchable.
Spenser Hawk thumbs up on the commercial thing
You can pay TH-cam Red.
Plus u get bigger brakes frame suspension and Cummins 5.0 is under tune for reliability
and yet the f150 outsells it 100 to 1...id say you get what you pay for. the only good thing is they didnt build the engine and Toyota built the trans
GM HP and TQ on paper may be less like the past but always perform better in real world. Put them on a dyno too.
Rob m I agree, I think Gm always underrates there numbers for longevity! I’m sure it can tow as much as ram and ford but not straining that little engine with all that weight will make it more reliable.
Agreed!
Once Nissan finally ups their numbers to 350hp 600tq and 3000 payload with 15000 towing game over. 5.0 Cummins is definitely being held back.
Really looking forward to real world mpg testing and I’m pretty excited about that 3.0 Chevy inline diesel!
*Can NOT* wait until you drive the *Chevy Duramax Diesel* !!!! *GREAT* episode!!! #Diesel #TFLNow
Nissan is the best bang for the buck, aside from mpg
If Nissan/Cummins could just tweak the XD to get ~ 22-23 MPG on the HWY, that would be a slam-dunk!
But all of the mftrs should make their ECMs with difft settings (Power, towing, economy, racing) instead of having to go buy aftermarket tuners, delete kits, etc.
Not even close
The titan xd is a great truck if only they used an 8 or 10 speed transmission it would way better.
So what trim level is the Silverado in with that low number? I bet it's less than a Ford XLT trim level
I'm excited to see the review of the Chevy. Most HP, good in torque, and the cheapest. Also, didnt the Ford break down the first time they drove it?

Think ram is going to take the cake foe best fuel economy and perfirmance. They have been out the longest and probably have learned a few things on the journey. Of corse thats just what i think, although an in line 6 should be able to hold its own.
You guys talk about how much weight the diesel can pour on the trucks, which one has the best brakes? All that weight that can be towed is great, but you need to be able to stop. I think stopping is sometimes more important, then how much weight you can tow. Please let me know which truck has the best stopping power. Thank you for all your videos.
I'm most excited about the Ram Ecodiesel! And now in the Rebel, I can't wait to see that!
Exactly. Would probably stay under 7500 max on a half ton. 9000 with the titan. This both fully loaded, not the factory dry weight.
I like the idea of the new Duramax straight 6 diesel, I’m just waiting to see what y’all say about It when y’all drive It!
If it pulls like the 2.8 in the Colorado; they'll likely be disappointed.
They actually liked it a lot
Never owned a truck. But my dad and grandfather’s always had fords. Looking forward to the the RAM diesel just for the comfort and the air ride suspension won’t be towing all the time mainly looking for mpg. Hoping to test drive all three by early next year. Before making my decision.
That air ride diesel will cost you near $60k and kill you in maintenance cost
Maintenance on the diesel or on the air ride. Or both. What am I looking at as far as maintenance on the air ride.

The new Rams are awesome
Looking forward to the GM 3.0 six
Todd Ullmann I agree inline has always been the best diesel config, why do you think every semi in North America, built in the last 35 or so years, is an in-line 6
Ram Rebel Diesel - Interesting to see what that level of torque means on Rocky Top, maybe mileage while overlanding, etc.
Bring on the ROAD TESTS!!!
like they said nissan xd more stable and very affordable. i think all of them has 360 camera but nissan has the zero gravity seats.
I have heard nothing but good about the eco diesel, I know it's not a high rpm brawler but a very superb truck with high mpg too !
Have you guys tested the diesel Ford on the Ike?
Should have put the last gen Eco diesel as a starter comparison since it was the first.
Ram and GM, I think that their MPGs will determine the winner.
The thing that ram has not mentioned but I would not be suprised on is if they use an etorque system to help the mpg
20 years ago these light duty trucks were 2500's and some 3500's HD trucks. Insane.
Looking forward to seeing a ram 2500 crew cab 4x4 gas
You guys keep talking about the Nissan 1/2 ton diesel and I don’t think the XD qualifies. Some clarification please?
it's a heavy duty, thus more capable, and also more affordable than the other 1/2 tons.
Time for a drag race of all these when they are officially out
Looking forward for you guys to test the Ram Diesel!!! In the market for a truck
Why on earth would you tow 12,000 lbs with a half ton truck? At what point is it too much/unsafe for a regular driver?
Does the 2.7 EcoBoost get better mileage than the diesel in f150?
No
Titan XD is what most people can buy not just in terms of a Japanese manufacturer, but it can be a long term reliability
I hope the ecodiesel gets an exhaust break. Any news on that?
If it were my money I'd buy one of the GM twins. That Cummins is a hell of an engine but the Titan XD doesn't perform as well as the numbers would lead you to believe.
Not sure which numbers you think are wrong but the Titan XD easily tows that rating, many out there are going over that number.
Do a diesel off-road test, and diesel overlanding. I’m guessing having that extra range helps
So its sounding like the gas 3.5l Ecoboost F150 still is the best value when it comes to towing. lol
What is the fuel tank size of each one?
Towing is fine. But can I install a 7.5 foot snowplow onto the truck without any issues. That is what is important to me.
I would like to see a new updated version of this with all the info
Can you get the Cummins Titan in a manual transmission?
No, probably can be converted into a manual with the right transmission and funds/elbow grease
Reminds me of the "Heavy Half's" from years ago.
That's exactly what it is and why I love mine. Doesnt have the punishing ride of a 3/4 ton but will handle 10,000lbs way better than a half ton.
Lots of information but you missed even more important details vehicle weight trim level for pricing and truck bed size. I am sure you thought about more details but left it out but that is why I watch your channel!
Yeah it is 2019 Ford F150 3.0L Po Diesel 250 Hp 244 Torque 20-25-22 10 Speed Automatic Transmission 2,020Lbs $46,255 Vs 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 3.0L Straight 6 277 Hp 460 Torque 10 Speed Automatic Transmission $42,385 Vs 2019 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel 260 Hp 480 Torque 8 Speed Automatic Transmission 12,550lbs Vs 2019 Nissan Titan XD 5.0L V8 Cummins 310 Hp 555 Torque 6 Speed 12,830Lbs 2,490Lbs Regular Cab $38,620 Vs 2019 Gmc Sierra 1500 3.0L Diesel $43K Ulimate Compact Halfton Trucks!!!!!!!!!
Nissan! If u can get it for $35k w tax, tag, title!
